• NetBeans remote synchronization : failed to save file

  Hi, I'm using NetBeans in a project, making use of remote sync to save both locally and to a FTP server. This feature works in other projects, but this time is failing when trying to save the file to the remote server. The IDE log tells me that had occurred a unknown error, as well as this : Upload failed: org.netbeans.modules.php.project.connections.TransferInfo [transfered: [], failed: {index.php=Cannot upload file index.php (unknown reason).}, partially failed: {}, ignored: {}, runtime: 61136 ms] Cannot logout from server The version of the IDE is 6.8. • Installing Ubuntu: root failed on restart

  I just installed Ubuntu. At the end, it tells me to keep away the CD and to restart. After I restart it tells me: searching for boot record form ide-0..not found searching for boot record form cdrom..not found root failure press any key to continue reboot or select proper boot device. I have just one CD-ROM and one IDE hard drive.

• VS2010 on multiple monitors

  I'm using VS2010, which has the cool feature of allowing you to drag panels out of the main IDE window. I like to drag some of the panels off to one of my other monitors. Unfortunately, after each run/debug session, VS2010 seems to forget where I had the panels, and dumps them right in the middle of the IDE window, and I have to move it again. Does anyone know what to do about this?

  Somehow, using linq I can't test it with this CUF field in the beginning: <NFe> <infNFe versao="1.0" Id="NFe0000000000"> <ide> <cUF>35</cUF> <!--...--> </ide> </NFe> With the following code: XDocument document = XDocument.Load(@"c:\nota.xml"); var query = from NFe in document.Descendants("NFe") select new { cuf = NFe.Element("infNFe").Element("ide").Element("cUF").Value }; The whole XML loads into document (checked) but NFe.cuf gives me nothing. I guess the parameters inside the nodes are messing it up.. How do I get this "cuf" with linq? What if I wanted the Id parameter in infNFe ?

• Css editor with certain features

  I need a light css editor with certain functions. Already downloaded and tried a few apps but still no luck, none of them fit my requirements. Actually, there is one, CssEdit (or TextMate), but unfortunately i'm a windows user... Already tried: built-in NetBeans IDE css editor (btw nice editor, the one i'm using now for css) IntelJ IDE (very good html and css editor, but using the entire ide just for this - that's crazy) ArduoCss (very buggy in win7 environment) Notepad Notepad++ (it rules, but as i said, i need something more functional for css editing) Style Master ( if i don't find anything else, probably i'll choose this one) Stylizer ( also might be my choice, but it's black interface kills me, also extremy noob-oriented, i even couldn't find a way to see the source code) Some of the features i am looking for: grouping by comments like here snippets autocomplete, if i type for instance f-s, it should recognize and expand it to "font-size" property color picker The editor must have at least the first feature that i listed above. • Using Subversion in Xcode

  It seems that all of the initial Google results for "using subversion with xcode" are actually just tutorials for installing and configuring svn and Xcode, as opposed to actually using the two (i.e. interacting with svn via Xcode's GUI). Is anyone aware of a good guide that teaches the tricks and pitfalls of working with svn via Xcode's GUI? Something that bridges the gap between the most excellent Version Control with Subversion book and the Xcode IDE (as in pure Xcode GUI without any terminal command use)? Edit: We all love our terminal commands, and we all love Eclipse but (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) neither is really the point of the question. I’d prefer to use svn via Xcode’s IDE instead of via terminal just as I prefer (well, for this case) to code in Xcode’s IDE instead of using vim and gcc. Apple engineers spent a good bit of time implementing that SCM menu in Xcode; someone has to have seen a usage guide somewhere.

• Help! Sikuli unit test can not run

  Hello, I couldn't run any unit tests either in the window xp? The IDE is functional. I write the simple example unit test script in the editor, as follow: def testHelloWorld(self): print("Hello World!") but no test shows up in the unit test window. When clicking the Run button of the Unit test pane, nothing happens, and the IDE window dissappears, there is no way to get back to it other than restarting the IDE. It had stucked me for several days, that would be preciate if anyone can help me solve this problem! Thank you very much. Janet

EDIT: What interests me the most is a way to get the compiler or IDE to tell me I have an unchecked exception somewhere in my code. I always loved how in Java, a method could handle an Exception and/or throw it. The method signature allows to put "throws MyException", so a good IDE/compiler would know that if you use said method somewhere in your code, you'd have to check for the Exception or declare your function to "throws" the Exception further. I'm unable to find something alike in Perl. A collegue of mine wrote a method which "dies" on incorrect input, but I forget to eval-if($@) it... offcourse the error was only discovered while a user was running the application. (offcourse I doubt if there is any existing IDE that could find these kind of things for Perl, but atleast perl -cw should be able to, no?)

• Macros no longer working in VS2005

  I'm using VS2005 on Vista. I'm using some macros, but now they have suddenly stopped working. No error messages of any kind. I am not aware of having done anything that could trigger this. I have made sure that "Allow macros to run" is checked in Tools-Options-Addin/Macro Security. I have tried running the macros from a keyboard shortcut, from the Macro Explorer, and from the Macros IDE, all in vain: The little spinning icon displays shortly (<1 sec) and then disappears without the macro being executed. I have tried putting a breakpoint on the first line of the macro and then executing it from the main IDE, with no effect (the breakpoint isn't hit). I have tried the same from the Macro IDE: The state changes to "running", but the breakpoint isn't hit. I have to break the execution manually. Any ideas?

• Better to develop Ruby project on server or buy a faster desktop computer? B/c laptop too slow.

  I have a Linux laptop (Vostro V13) running a Celeron M chip. This is a fine laptop, but running unit tests especially for Rails applications is slow. I want a faster development environment but I don't want to spend too much money. So the choice I have is between $390 for a Linux desktop machine with a Pentium Dual Core Processor E5400 and just paying between $30 and $40 a month to Linode and trying to do development remotely on that server. Can anyone with experience developing server applications using both methods offer any advice?

• For what to use VI?

  I recently started picking up VI, going through some tutorials and trying to get used to it. But I still have some questions about it. It seems to be nice for small one file changes, but as soon as I start to try doing bigger things it seems to be lacking. For example I'm used to have code formatting, import organizing, simple overview over all packages and other things that an IDE gives me. I saw some tutorials on how to use VI as an IDE, but it felt awkward at best. Now I'm just wondering, what are the typical use cases for VI? Is it typically used to edit small files, or can it be used for larger projects? And if you use it in larger projects, how do you make it work? Or would it be a lot easier to use an IDE with VI keybindings?

• Vim lint check - only show message if there's an error

  I have this line in my .vimrc, which means "when I save a .rb file, run it through ruby -c" (the ruby interpreter's error checking). autocmd BufWritePost *.rb !ruby -c <afile> When I save that file, I always see output at the bottom of the screen, so I get used to it and start ignoring it. What I want is to only see output if there are errors. I can see that when there are errors, after it says what they are, at the bottom, it says "shell returned 1." How can I modify this line so that it only shows a message if the shell returns 1? Is there a way to conditionally surpress output from a shell command run in vim?

• How can I use the same buildscript for Flash Builder 4 and Ant/Mvn?

  I'm setting up a build system for a Flash Builder 4 (Flex 4) based project; and I'm struggling to get a setup that compiles in the IDE the same as it does from the command line on the build server. I come from a C# background; and my expectation is that I'll be able to create a "solution" with a collection of "projects" that I can compile from the IDE, or from the command line on the build server. The best I've managed sofar is 2 separate build "scripts", a custom ant script for the build server, and the default Flash Builder IDE config based on a workspace; but this is making my DRY daemons jump around in fury. Please can someone point me in the right direction :)

  I have a Ruby script that connects to a remote machine via ssh and executes a command. The script runs fine when I just run it in my terminal. In my crontab, I have 1 * * * * /bin/bash -l -c 'ruby myfile.rb' and if I go ahead and run /bin/bash -l -c 'ruby myfile.rb', everything executes fine. But when cron itself executes the job, I get a ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host error. What's the cause of this? How do I fix it?

• C# testing framework that works like JUnit in Eclipse?

  Hello all, I come from a Java/Eclipse background and I fear that I am spoiled by how easy it is to get JUnit and JMock running in Eclipse, and have that GUI with the bar and pass/fail information pop up. It just works with no hassle. I see a lot of great options for testing in C# with Visual Studio. NUnit looks really nice because it contains unit and mock testing all in one. The trouble is, I can't figure out how to get the IDE display my results. The NUnit documentation seems to show that it doesn't automatically show results through the VS IDE. I found http://testdriven.net/, which seems to trumpet that is makes VS display these stats and work with multiple frameworks, but it isn't open source. Is there anyway to get unit and mock testing working with the VS IDE like it does in Java with Eclipse?

In Java IDE such as Eclipse, if I do not know the classname in a package, I can just type a dot (.) after a package name, then I will get a list of all the classes in that package in the IDE. How I can configure visual studio to do the similar thing, say, if I click a namespace name in a file (for example, using System), or add a dot after the namespace, all the classes in that namespace will be displayed somewhere in the IDE?

• Assigning large UInt32 constants in VB.Net

  I inquired on VB's erratic behavior of treating all numerics as signed types back in this question, and from the accepted answer there, was able to get by. Per that answer: Visual Basic Literals Also keep in mind you can add literals to your code in VB.net and explicitly state constants as unsigned. So I tried this: Friend Const POW_1_32 As UInt32 = 4294967296UI And VB.NET throws an Overflow error in the IDE. Pulling out the integer overflow checks doesn't seem to help -- this appears to be a flaw in the IDE itself. This, however, doesn't generate an error: Friend Const POW_1_32 As UInt64 = 4294967296UL So this suggests to me that the IDE isn't properly parsing the code and understanding the difference between Int32 and UInt32. Any suggested workarounds and/or possible clues on when MS will make unsigned data types intrinsic to the framework instead of the hacks they currently are?
