  • Saving file to phone in stead of SD-card

    - by Galip
    Hi guys, In my app I save an XML file to the users SD-card by doing File newxmlfile = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/Message.xml"); But not all users have SD-cards in their phone and therefore my app is likely to crash. How must I change my File creating method in order to save the file to the phone's memory instead of the SD-card? Also, how must I change the loading of the file? (currently: new InputSource(new FileInputStream(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/Message.xml")))

  • JAVA-how to manually compose a MIME multipart message

    - by Augusto Picciani
    I need to compose manually a MIME multipart message. I don't need to use any library to doing it. I'm trying this without success: out.println("From:myemail@mydomain"); out.flush(); out.println("To:myemail@mydomain"); out.flush(); out.println("Date:Thu, 25 Nov 2011 01:00:50 +0100"); out.flush(); out.println("Subject:manual test 269"); out.flush(); out.println("MIME-version:1.0"); out.flush(); out.print("Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary=\"1234567\"\n\n"); out.println("--1234567"); out.flush(); out.println("Content-Type: text/plain; charset:utf-8"); out.flush(); out.print("Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit\n\n"); out.flush(); out.print("test message\n\n"); out.flush(); out.println("--1234567"); out.flush(); out.println("Content-Type: text/html; charset:utf-8"); out.flush(); out.print("Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit\n\n"); out.flush(); out.print("<p><strong>test message in html</strong></p>\n\n"); out.flush(); out.println("--1234567--"); out.flush(); out.print("\r\n.\r\n"); out.flush(); Problem is that my mail client see the headers (from,subject,date,ecc.) but it doesn't see the message body. If i try without multipart it works fine. Maybe problem is in whitespaces character.

  • Determine if a specific activity in an application can be launched...

    - by Justin
    Applications can have any number of launchable activities. I know how to get the list of these activities via PackageManager. Is there a way to determine which activities can be launched via startActivity? For example, the Documents To Go app has different activities that will start Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, etc... I am able to launch all o these just fine. However, it also contains some activities that I am not able to launch with startActivity... If I attempt to do this I get a SecurityException. I want to be able to determine which activities I can safely launch and which I cannot so I only present the user with a list of activities that I can safely launch from within my application... Is this possible?

  • Reading Images only from Camera

    - by Ankit
    I wanted to read images only from the Camera folder of the device. Since the folder might be different for different devices, how can I write a simple application for it). So far I have written the following code, which does read from Camera folder, but it also reads from other places on sdcard as well. Cursor childCursor = managedQuery(MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns._ID, null); do { ImageView image = new ImageView(); image.setImageURI(Uri.withAppendedPath(MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, ""+ childCursor.getString( childCursor.getColumnIndex( MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns._ID ))); <some other code> } while (childCursor.moveToNext()); How can I create a generic app and filter on Camera Images before displaying. Any help is appreciated.

  • How can a link within a WebView load another layout using javascript?

    - by huffmaster
    So I have 2 layout files (main.xml, featured.xml) and both each have a single WebView. When the application starts "main.xml" loads a html file into it's WebView. In this html file I have a link that calls javascript that runs code in the Activity that loaded the html. Once back in this Activity code though I try running setContentView(R.layout.featured) but it just bombs out on me. If I debug it just dies without any real error and if I run it the application just Force closes. Am I going about this correctly or should I be doing something differently? final private int MAIN = 1; final private int FEATURED = 2; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); webview = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.wvMain); webview.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true); webview.getSettings().setSupportZoom(false); webview.addJavascriptInterface(new EHJavaScriptInterface(), "eh"); webview.loadUrl("file:///android_asset/default.html"); } final class EHJavaScriptInterface { EHJavaScriptInterface() { } public void loadLayout(final String lo) { int i = Integer.parseInt(lo.trim()); switch (i) { /****** THIS IS WHERE I'M BOMBING OUT *********/ case FEATURED: setContentView(R.layout.featured);break; case MAIN: setContentView(R.layout.main);break; } } }

  • Alarm not working if application gets killed

    - by Tobia Loschiavo
    Hi, I am trying to use an alarm to set my widget layout after some minutes. Everything works correctly in normal situation but, if I try to delete the process of my application, simulating a system kill, after the alarm is set, then no alarm is executed. Why? From documentation it seems that alarms are executed by AlarmManager service...so it should work. Thanks Tobia Loschiavo

  • TimePickerDialog and AM or PM

    - by martinjd
    I have a TimePickerDialog with is24Hour set to false since I want to present the end-user with the more familiar 12 hour format. When the hour, minute and AM PM indicator are set and the time is returned how can I identify whether the end-user has selected AM or PM? This is what I have for the listener: private TimePickerDialog.OnTimeSetListener mTimeSetListener = new TimePickerDialog.OnTimeSetListener() { @Override public void onTimeSet(TimePicker view, int hourOfDay, int minute) { mHour = hourOfDay; mMinute = minute; // mIsAM = WHERE CAN I GET THIS VALUE } };

  • Return back to the parent activity from subactivity

    - by ZelluX
    My application supports twitter and needs to open browser for OAuth. When the user clicks the Share on Twitter button, the main activity will create another subactivity (TwitterActivity) to handle twitter authentication issues. Here is a flow graph showing how activities are invoked currently. Main is short for MainActivity and Twit for TwitterActivity. startActivity() OAuth intent OAuth callback finish() Main ---------------> Twit ------------> Browser --------------> Twit --------> Browser As you may notice, after the TwitterActivity calls finish() to stop, it will now return back to MainActivity, but Browser instead. How can I make it return back to MainActivity? Many thanks

  • Error implementing Dynamic Tab with ListView within each Tab - Tabs don't show up

    - by Jon
    I am trying to create a dyanmic tab application that has tabs on the left for each type of Food (e.g. Pasta, Dairy, etc. including those dynamically defined by user) and for each tab, have a listview connected to a SQLite database that updates. This is in the onCreate method: setContentView(R.layout.foodCabinet_layout); dbHelper = new FoodStorageDBHelper(this); dbHelper.open(); Cursor foodTypes = dbHelper.getAllFoodTypes(); ArrayList<String> typeOfFood = new ArrayList<String>(); typeOfFoods.add(foodTypes.getString(1)); while(foodTypes.moveToNext()){ typeOfFoods.add(foodTypes.getString(1)); } final TabHost tbh = (TabHost)findViewById(R.id.food_tabhost_cabinet); tbh.setup(); for(final String s : typeOfFood){ TabSpec nts = tbh.newTabSpec(s); nts.setIndicator(s.replace('_', ' ')); nts.setContent(new TabHost.TabContentFactory(){ public View createTabContent(String tag) { ListView foodCabinetLV = new ListView(FoodCabinet.this); Cursor mCursor = dbHelper.getAllFoodsWithType(s); // Create an array to specify the fields we want to display in the list (only TITLE) String[] from = new String[]{FoodStorageDBHelper.KEY_NAME, FoodStorageDBHelper.KEY_YEAR,FoodStorageDBHelper.KEY_RANK}; // and an array of the fields we want to bind those fields to (in this case just text1) int[] to = new int[]{R.id.childname,R.id.childyear,R.id.childrank}; // Now create a simple cursor adapter and set it to display SimpleCursorAdapter notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(FoodCabinet.this, R.layout.food_row, mCursor, from, to); foodCabinetLV.setAdapter(notes); startManagingCursor(mCursor); foodCabinetLV.setOnItemClickListener( new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3) { Intent i = new Intent(); i.setClass(arg0.getContext(), EditFoodDialog.class); i.putExtra(FoodStorageDBHelper.KEY_ROWID, Long.toString(arg3)); startActivityForResult(i, LoadFoodOrganizer.ACTIVITY_EDIT); } }); return foodCabinetLV; } }); } For some reason, it doesn't show anything... it's a blank screen. Any help would be very much appreciated. Let me know! Thanks! Jon

  • how to know application is going to destroy/remove?

    - by Bhavesh Jethani
    My requirement is, i want to cancel my alarm manager or services when application going to destroy/closed. if i am in activity A by clicking on button started activity B suddenly user is going to press home button. ---- if application is running in background then don't cancel service. but when he going to remove from recent list of application at that time cancel service. Service/Alarm manager will work even when user has sent application in background by pressing home screen. No of way application can destroy or removed. 1) by clicking back button multiple times if stack have multiple activities. 2) by pressing home button and then remove from recent list. i am facing issue with (2)second option. in that when user press home button at that time service or alarm manager should be work. But when user will be going to remove application from recent list at that time i want to cancel service/alarm manager. Second issue. my service is called at fix interval of time. if i will write code on onCreate(), onDestroy() in each activity. then timer will start from beginning. Is there any listners who talk me application is going to closed?

  • diffuculty in appending images dynamically in an Custom List View

    - by ganesh
    Hi I have written an custom List view which binds images according to the result from a feed @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { ViewHolder holder; if (convertView == null) { convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.row_for_stopnames, null); holder = new ViewHolder(); holder.name = (TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.stop_name); holder.dis = (TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.distance); holder.route_one=(ImageView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.one); holder.route_two=(ImageView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.two); holder.route_three=(ImageView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.three); convertView.setTag(holder); } else { holder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag(); } holder.name.setText(elements.get(position).get("stop_name")); holder.dis.setText(elements.get(position).get("distance")); String[] route_txt=elements.get(position).get("route_name").split(","); for(int i=0;i<route_txt.length;i++) { if(i==0) { holder.route_one.setBackgroundResource(Utils.getRouteImage().get(stop_txt[0])); } else if(i==1) { holder.route_two.setBackgroundResource(Utils.getRouteImage().get(stop_txt[1])); } else if(i==2) { holder.route_three.setBackgroundResource(Utils.getRouteImage().get(stop_txt[2])); } } convertView.setOnClickListener(new OnItemClickListener(position,elements)); return convertView; } class ViewHolder { TextView name; TextView dis; ImageView route_one; ImageView route_two; ImageView route_three; } for every stop name there may be route_names, maximum of three routes.I have to bind images according to the number of route names.This is what I tried to do by the above code .This works fine until I start scrolling up and down .When I do so the route images gets displayed where it does not want to be,this behaviour is unpredictable.I will be glad if someone explain me why this happens,and the best way to do this.The getRouteImage method of Utils class returns HashMap with key String and value a drawable

  • Java: constructing a file from a URI?

    - by AP257
    I need to obtain a File object from a URI, working in Java, but keep getting a length of zero - though I know the file size is not zero. I need the File object to pass to another constructor. I'm not sure if it's because I'm constructing it in the wrong way? Here's my code: File videoFile = new File(videoURI.getPath()); if (videoFile == null) { Log.d(LOG_TAG, "File not found!"); return false; } Log.d(LOG_TAG, "about to upload, filepath: " + videoFile.getPath()); Log.d(LOG_TAG, "File length: " + String.valueOf(videoFile.length())); The log output doesn't spit out 'File not found!', and prints a non-null path, but shows a length of 0.

  • How to update widgets from a service?

    - by Franklin
    I have a background service that can be configured to perform some action every x minutes. I want to implement a widget that gets updated every time my service performs that action. However, I can't get the onUpdate method of my AppWidgetProvider called in any way, except when adding a widget to the homescreen. I tried sending APPWIDGET_UPDATE intents but onUpdate did not get called although the AppWidgetProvider did receive the intent since the onReceive method was called. Is there any way I can trigger widget updates from a service?

  • GoogleAuthUtil: Daily Limit for Unauthenticated Use Exceeded

    - by Copa
    I am using the Google Client API and the GoogleAuthUtil.class to get access to the user's Google Drive Account. String scope = "oauth2:" + DriveScopes.DRIVE; String token = GoogleAuthUtil.getToken(getContext(), account.name, scope); This is the whole magic. It worked the whole day but since a couple of hours I receive the following message when sending API calls: com.google.api.client.googleapis.json.GoogleJsonResponseException: 403 Forbidden { "code": 403, "errors": [ { "domain": "usageLimits", "message": "Daily Limit for Unauthenticated Use Exceeded. Continued use requires signup.", "reason": "dailyLimitExceededUnreg", "extendedHelp": "https://code.google.com/apis/console" } ], "message": "Daily Limit for Unauthenticated Use Exceeded. Continued use requires signup." } I dont know how to use a API Key from the console instead of an oauth2 authentication. There are two different "getToken()" messages. One has four parameters and the description for the last one says: extras: Bundle containing additional information that may be relevant to the authentication scope. But what do these information should look like? What informations do I have to put in the Bundle?

I use that along with small program on windows to lock/unlock the computer if the phone is close by. Recently i try to port this app to my nexus one but it seems like i have to pop up the message every 300s to enable device to go to discoverable mode. does anyone know how i can suppress that? I'm ok with saying ok for the first time but not every 300s :)
