  • Combining IN and NOT IN in SQL as single result

    - by UltraVi01
    I apologize for the vague title. I am attempting to write a query that returns an alias column with matching values (resulting from an IN) as well as an alias column with values that do not match (using NOT IN). I want the result set to have: userId | matches | nonmatches. I currently have the following query which returns the matches as expected. I am having trouble getting the nonmatches in the result set -- that is, from a NOT IN statement SET @userId = 9; SELECT ug.user_id, COUNT(DISTINCT goal_id) as matches FROM user_goal ug WHERE ug.user_id!=@userId AND goal_id IN (SELECT iug.goal_id FROM user_goal iug WHERE user_id=@userId) GROUP BY user_id ORDER BY matches DESC LIMIT 4 So, the NOT IN would look something like this: goal_id NOT IN(SELECT uggg.goal_id FROM user_goal uggg WHERE user_id=@userId) AS nonmatches I am just not sure how to incorporate the NOT IN statement in my query so I get all the results

  • how to change a while sql query loop into an array loop

    - by Mac Taylor
    hey guys i record number of queries of my website and in page the below script runs , 40 extra queries added to page . how can I change this sql connection into a propper and light one function tree_set($index) { //global $menu; Remove this. $q=mysql_query("select id,name,parent from cats where parent='$index'"); if(mysql_num_rows($q) === 0) { return; } // User $tree instead of the $menu global as this way there shouldn't be any data duplication $tree = $index > 0 ? '<ul>' : ''; // If we are on index 0 then we don't need the enclosing ul while($arr=mysql_fetch_assoc($q)) { $subFileCount=mysql_query("select id,name,parent from cats where parent='{$arr['id']}'"); if(mysql_num_rows($subFileCount) > 0) { $class = 'folder'; } else { $class = 'file'; } $tree .= '<li>'; $tree .= '<span class="'.$class.'">'.$arr['name'].'</span>'; $tree .=tree_set("".$arr['id'].""); $tree .= '</li>'."\n"; } $tree .= $index > 0 ? '</ul>' : ''; // If we are on index 0 then we don't need the enclosing ul return $tree; } i heard , this can be done by changing it into an array , but i don't know how to do so thanks in advance

  • Array values changing unexpectedly

    - by Lizard
    I am using cakephp 1.2 and I have an array that appears to have a value change even though that variable is not being manipulated. Below is the code to that is causing me trouble. PLEASE NOTE - UPDATE Changing the variable name makes no difference to the outcome, The values get changed somewhere between the two print_r calls, and I can't see why the $this-find would do this . echo "Start of findCountByString()"; print_r($myArr); $test = $this->find('count', array( 'conditions' => $conditions, 'joins' => array('LEFT JOIN `articles_entities` AS ArticleEntity ON `ArticleEntity`.`article_id` = `Article`.`id`'), 'group' => 'Article.id' )); echo "End of findCountByString()"; print_r($myArr); I am getting the following output: Start of findCountByString() Array ( [0] => 4bdb1d96-c680-4c2c-aae7-104c39d70629 [1] => 4bdb1d6a-9e38-479d-9ad4-105c39d70629 [2] => 4bdb1b55-35f0-4d22-ab38-104e39d70629 [3] => 4bdb25f4-34d4-46ea-bcb6-104f39d70629 ) End of findCountByString() Array ( [0] => 4bdb1d96-c680-4c2c-aae7-104c39d70629 [1] => 4bdb1d6a-9e38-479d-9ad4-105c39d70629 [2] => 4bdb1b55-35f0-4d22-ab38-104e39d70629 [3] => '4bdb25f4-34d4-46ea-bcb6-104f39d70629' # This is now in inverted commas ) The the value in my array have changed, and I don't know why? Any suggestions?

  • 2 table SQL Query weird results

    - by javArc
    Ok this is driving me nuts, I need to write an SQL query that will grab product information from 2 tables. The first table 'products' contains the productId, productname, quantityperunit and unitprice. Now I can search by productname and categoryname individually, but when I try to combine the 2 I get crazy results, Here's the query: "SELECT DISTINCT productId, productname, quantityperunit, unitprice FROM products pr, categories ca WHERE pr.categoryID = ca.categoryID AND ProductName LIKE '%" + searchTerm + "%' OR CategoryName LIKE '%" + searchTerm + "%' excuse the java style in there, here it is formatted better: SELECT DISTINCT productId, productname, quantityperunit, unitprice FROM products pr, categories ca WHERE pr.categoryID = ca.categoryID AND ProductName LIKE 'Tofu' OR CategoryName LIKE 'Tofu' any help would be appreciated.

  • Need help with a sub query/group/order (get latest comment for each ordered topic)

    - by Scarface
    Hey guys I have a query that currently finds the latest comment for each of a user's topics and then orders topics by that comment's timestamp. What I want to do is expand on this query's use and print the latest comment for each topic. The problem with this query is that while it orders the topics correctly, it prints seemingly random comments for each topic. I am trying to implement a sub query but I am not quite sure how to approach it. I was thinking that I just had to somehow use this query to get the comments. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it. Here is what I think I need to add SELECT * FROM comments where topic_id='$topic_id' ORDER BY timestamp DESC LIMIT 1 Here is the query I need to modify SELECT topic.topic_title, topic.content_type, topic.subject_id, topic.creator, topic.description, topic.topic_id,comments.message,comments.user FROM comments JOIN topic ON topic.topic_id = comments.topic_id WHERE topic.creator = '$user' AND comments.timestamp > $week GROUP BY topic_id ORDER BY MAX(comments.timestamp) DESC

  • Yii 'limit' on related model's scope

    - by pethee
    I have a model called Guesses that has_many Comments. I'm making eager queries to this to then pass on as JSON as response to an API call. The relations are obviously set between the two models and they are correct(one2many <= belongs2) I added a scope to Comments called 'api' like this: public function scopes() { return array( 'api' => array( 'select' => 'id, comment, date', 'limit'=>3, 'order'=>'date DESC', 'together'=>true, ), ); } And I'm running the following one-liner query: $data = Guesses::model()->with('comments:api')->findAll(); The issue here is that when calling the 'api' scope using a with('relation'), the limit property simply doesn't apply. I added the 'together'=true there for another type of scope, plus I hear it might help. It doesn't make a difference. I don't need all the comments of all Guesses. I want the top 3 (or 5). I am also trying to keep the one-liner call intact and simple, manage everything through scopes, relations and parameterized functions so that the API call itself is clean and simple. Any advice?

  • which sql query is more efficient: select count(*) or select ... where key>value?

    - by davka
    I need to periodically update a local cache with new additions to some DB table. The table rows contain an auto-increment sequential number (SN) field. The cache keeps this number too, so basically I just need to fetch all rows with SN larger than the highest I already have. SELECT * FROM table where SN > <max_cached_SN> However, the majority of the attempts will bring no data (I just need to make sure that I have an absolutely up-to-date local copy). So I wander if this will be more efficient: count = SELECT count(*) from table; if (count > <cache_size>) // fetch new rows as above I suppose that selecting by an indexed numeric field is quite efficient, so I wander whether using count has benefit. On the other hand, this test/update will be done quite frequently and by many clients, so there is a motivation to optimize it.

  • Very weird jquery/json problem...

    - by Scarface
    Hey guys I have finally located the cause of this problem...I just have no idea how to fix it and why it is happening. I have a jquery getjson function and it returns 0 results every 2-5 clicks on new topics or refreshes. For some reason if I change my query to sort results by ASC it always returns results and much quicker, but this poses a problem since I need results by DESC. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it because I am dumbfounded at this point. Here is my query but I need it by DESC SELECT time, user, message FROM comments WHERE topic_id='$topic_id' ORDER BY time ASC LIMIT 10 $.getJSON(files+"comments.php?action=view&load=initial&topic_id="+topic_id+"&t=" + (new Date()), function(json) { if(json.length) { for(i=0; i < json.length; i++) { $('#comment-list').prepend(prepare(json[i])); $('#list-' + count).fadeIn(1500); } } }); I return results like so while($row = mysql_fetch_array($res)){ $data[] = $row; } $out = json_encode($data); print $out;

  • How do I simplify this php script

    - by user225269
    Any suggestions on how I can simplify the php script below?This was my previous question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2712237/how-to-check-if-a-checkbox-radio-button-is-checked-in-php that is linked to this one, What I'm trying to do here is to output the data depending on the checkbox that is checked. But my code isn't really good, it shows 2 tables if the condition is met by the 2 results. As you can see in the code below, any suggestions on how I can simplify this? <?php $con = mysql_connect("localhost","root","nitoryolai123$%^"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("school", $con); $id = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['idnum']); if ( $_POST['yr'] == 'year' and $_POST['sec'] == 'section' ){ $result2 = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM student WHERE IDNO='$id'"); echo "<table border='1'> <tr> <th>IDNO</th> <th>YEAR</th> <th>SECTION</th> </tr>"; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result2)) { echo "<tr>"; echo "<td>" . $row['IDNO'] . • wordpress query custom fields and category

    - by InnateDev
    I have a query that creates a table view and then another that queries the view. The results are extremely slow. Here is the code: create or replace view $view_table_name as select * from wp_2_postmeta where post_id IN ( select ID FROM wp_2_posts wposts LEFT JOIN wp_2_term_relationships ON (wposts.ID = wp_2_term_relationships.object_id) LEFT JOIN wp_2_term_taxonomy ON (wp_2_term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id = wp_2_term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id) WHERE wp_2_term_taxonomy.taxonomy = 'category' AND wp_2_term_taxonomy.parent = $cat || wp_2_term_taxonomy.term_id = $cat AND wposts.post_status = 'publish' AND wposts.post_type = 'post') The $values have been put it in for this example that queries the view table for the results. select distinct(ID) from $view_table_name wposts LEFT JOIN wp_2_postmeta wpostmeta ON wposts.ID = wpostmeta.post_id WHERE post_status = 'publish' AND ID NOT IN (SELECT post_id FROM wp_2_postmeta WHERE meta_key = '$var' && meta_value = '$value1') AND ID NOT IN (SELECT post_id FROM wp_2_postmeta WHERE meta_key = '$var' && meta_value = '$value2') AND ID NOT IN (SELECT post_id FROM wp_2_postmeta WHERE meta_key = '$var' && meta_value = '$value3') AND postmeta.meta_key = 'pd_form' ORDER BY CASE wpostmeta.meta_value WHEN '$value5' THEN 1 WHEN '$value6' THEN 2 WHEN '$value7' THEN 3 WHEN '$value8' THEN 4 WHEN '$value9' THEN 5 THEN '$value10' THEN 6 WHEN '$value11' THEN 7 WHEN '$value11' THEN 8 END

  • I'm making a resume...what would you consider as intermediate python programming skills?

    - by user285884
    I've made a couple of scripts. One is a stock screener that can search through every stock. Another creates a heatmap that tells you what's performed well and badly over the past day. They aren't really that useful, just did them to work on my programming skills. I was able to throw some SQL in my scripts too. Would you call that intermediate? Thanks? How do you guys list your programming skills on your resume? Maybe there's a better way of putting it on my resume than "intermediate" or "beginner."

  • Working with sets of rows in (My)SQL and comparing values

    - by Pep.
    Hello, I am trying to figure out the SQL for doing some relatively simple operations on sets of records in a table but I am stuck. Consider a table with multiple rows per item, all identified by a common key. For example: serial model color XX1 A blue XX2 A blue XX3 A green XX5 B red XX6 B blue XX1 B blue What I would for example want to do is: Assuming that all model A rows must have the same color, find the rows which dont. (for example, XX3 is green). Assuming that a given serial number can only point to a single type of model, find out the rows which that does not occur (for example XX1 points both to A and B) These are all simple logically things to do. To abstract it, I want to know how to group things by using a single key (or combination of keys) and then compare the values of those records. Should I use a join on the same table? should i use some sort of array or similar? thanks for your help
