  • retain drop down value page posting back to itself asp.net

    I have an aspx page that has... if (!IsPostBack) { PopulateBrand(); in the Page_Load. This PopulateBrand() simply populates my drop down. That works great and on post back it retains the value. The problem I'm having is that there is also a link on the page that is posting back some parameters to this page. What is happening is that when this is clicked it's falling through this !IsPostBack section and wiping out my drop down values that I had selected and repopulating it. How can I prevent this and just retain what I selected when this page is posting back to itself when the link is clicked? Thanks.

Basically this client application already has their soap messages all set up from its past integrations with other companies. So we've opted to just build a web service using an ASMX file that matches the WSDL that they're already setup to consume. Is it possible to get WS-Security working on an ASMX file or is ASMX too simplistic and I have to upgrade to WFC (which I really don't want to do)?

  • How can i Execute a Controller's ActionMethod programatically?

    Hi folks, I'm trying to execute a controller's Action Method programatically and I'm not sure how. Scenario: When my ControllerFactory fails to find the controller, I wish it to manually execute a single action method which i have on a simple, custom controller. I don't want to rely on using any route data to determine the controller/method .. because that route might not have been wired up. Eg. // NOTE: Error handling removed from this example. public class MyControllerFactory : DefaultControllerFactory { protected override IController GetControllerInstance(Type controllerType) { IController result = null; // Try and load the controller, based on the controllerType argument. // ... snip // Did we retrieve a controller? if (controller == null) { result = new MyCustomController(); ((MyCustomController)result).Execute404NotFound(); // <-- HERE! } return result; } } .. and that method is .. public static void Execute404NotFound(this Controller controller) { result = new 404NotFound(); // Setup any ViewData.Model stuff. result.ExecuteResult(controller.ControllerContext); // <-- RUNTIME // ERROR's HERE } Now, when I run the controller factory fails to find a controller, i then manually create my own basic controller. I then call the extension method 'Execute404NotFound' on this controller instance. That's fine .. until it runs the ExecuteResult(..) method. Why? the controller has no ControllerContext data. As such, the ExecuteResult crashes because it requires some ControllerContext. So - can someone out there help me? see what I'm doing wrong. Remember - i'm trying to get my controller factory to manually / programmatically call a method on a controller which of course would return an ActionResult. Please help!

  • ASP.net Error in Design Mode

    I just switched to VS 2010, and upgraded a previous project. I'm getting the following error on a page in design mode for 2 controls: Error Creating Control - ObjectName Object reference not set to an instance of an object. One of them is a simple label, and the other is a ajax update panel. Other pages look fine. When I build and test the app, the page renders fine in the browser and functions fine - the label functions as expected and the content in the update panel works as expected. Any ideas why I'm getting this error? I tried some of the google results to no avail. It'd be great to get this out of the way. Thanks!

    I have a Visual Studio solution containing two web applications. I would like the first to depend on the second (pages in the first may contain links to, or possibly post to pages in the second). Furthermore, I would like to be able to launch the first project on a development server (standard debugging procedure for web apps in VS) and have the references to the second project be fully functional. Should validation (including service layer calls to the DB) occur on the page level or inside each state class? In other words, should the concrete implementation of IState be concerned with the validation or should it be given a fully populated and valid object?     For a project I'm working on, we're looking for a way to dynamically add filters to a page which then control the dataoutput in, for instance, a grid. We want to add the filters dynamically because we want the customer to be able to change which properties can be filtered and what filtertype (textbox, dropdown, colourpicker, etc.) should be used. The filter should work as follows: - The customer links a filter to a certain property and specifies the filtertype (for this example: dropdown). - A user control which contains all the filter loads all filters specified - The filters load all values of the specified property as options. The first time the page loads; this would be the values of all items. - Now the user selects a value from one of the filters; the page reloads - Only items which have the specified filter value are retrieved, the user may specify one or more filters at the same time. - Once a user drills down by filtering, only filtervalues of the retrieved items should be used in the other filters. I have the following problems: - When I create the filters runtime, events are lost because the controls get recreated each postback. - I could place the filters in PreInit which should solve this, but then determining which controls should be loaded becomes a problem since loading all environment vars isn't finished yet - I don't know a good way of returning all the filter values to a central point from which I can make a good query. - The query has to be dynamic. I'm using linq which I want to make dynamic so I don't have to select everything everytime. How to make a dynamic select query based on a string stored in the database? - I have to select items based on the filtervalues and then adjust the rest of the filters to the already made selection. That kind of messes up the whole regular databinding sequence. Any help in one of the above would be great! PS: One thing I thought about was passing along filter values in the postback which would have to be recognizable. That way the server could use them for selection and then create the filters and autoselect the previously selected filtervalues. I'm not quite sure how to acheive this though...

  • ASP.NET - Overriding Gridview OnRowCreated to add sort images -- columns are null

    I'm overriding the onrowcreated to add sort images to the header row of a gridview. This works, but actually adding a sortexpression doesn't. What I want to do is set the images as imagebuttons and set their commandarguments to the sort expression of the column they are sorting for. I would assume I could get the cell and from it's index get the gridviewcolumn. Then, I could just get the sortexpression of the gridview column, but this does not work. The columns are null.     Hi all. I am looking for the VB.NET code of a very handy little *.bas file I used to use in Visual Basic 6. The file was called timeout.bas and it was the greatest module ever to me. I want to switch to start using VB.NET finally but this single file is holding me back. Trying to use .NET without it is like crippling me. Can someone, anyone please make this code work in .NET for me? It's only a couple lines: Attribute VB_Name = "Module1" Sub timeout(duration) starttime = Timer Do While Timer - starttime < duration DoEvents Loop End Sub Basically you add that timeout.bas file which contains that code and you can just do: Text1.text = "hello" timeout .5 Text1.text "World!"     I have a list of Accommodation objects bound to a Repeater, and then a nested Repeater which has the various attendee groups listed [e.g. Default, Seniors, Juniors]. This is all output fine, with the values displayed as LinkButtons, which when clicked gets sent to a code-behind event handler. Here is an example of the output to give you a picture [with some er... interesting attendee group names]: In the event handler, I test the object parameter to see which Repeater has been sent, as the outer repeater's links can also be clicked [so the Accommodation would be set, but no Attendee Group]. Is there a way to get a HiddenField from the outer RepeaterItem that contains the currently clicked inner repeater's LinkButton? E.g. From the image, I click the Attending link in the Women section. So the EventArgs via FindControl can get me the hidden field which contains the Attendee Group's ID, which is good, but I also need the Accommodation ID [to know whether it was either Wimbledon Hotel Inn or New Acc]

  • remove enctype=multipart from the asp.net form(Sharepoint)

    I have a form that I want to postback to some other server on button click . I am using onpostbackurl ...Its posting the form to other server but text field input is not getting into other server. If I remove enctype="multipart.. it seems to be working fine...but the thing is I am doing all this in sharepoint and <formid="aspnetform" enctype="multipart/datapart"...is getting added on its own..... in my control I am giving text field and button only .....Any idea how to achieve this...?
