• Linux virtual disk stripping or multi-path samba share?

  I am trying to build a file storage box for media. It needs to span two or more directories or partitions as one share. There are a few solutions but reasons why I want to avoid them, among these are: Using LVM2 for stripping. I don't really have the resources to back up everything on the volumes incase one HDD goes south. I would end up loosing everything. Maybe there is a better option for this to prevent data loss with hot swappable drives or some kind of raid. Using symbolic links in the share. This will get tedious every time a new sub-directory is added. Is there some kind of software raid I can use to merge two directories virtually? I am aware of the issue where /dev/hda1/media/file.1 and /dev/hdb1/media/file.1 both exist. But I'm sure there are some creative solutions for this.

• Continue process after closing terminal?

  Recently, I tried to unzip a 30 gig zip file on a remote system using Putty. As the long unzipping process continued, I closed Putty, assuming that the process would just continue to run on the remote machine. When I came back later and logged back into the machine again, I realized that the process must have stopped only part way through when I closed Putty. I wasn't expecting that to happen. My question is, how do I prevent this problem? Can I somehow fire off a process in the background? Or should just setup a one time cronjob that will run the process for me?

• Creating 1 page PDF of iPad Screen view - How?

  Hi All, I've asked this question on a couple other forums and have had zero response, so I'm hoping someone here can help point me in the right direction. I have a pretty simple one screen application for my work. It's basically just a recreation of a 1 page paper report that has a company logo, some labels, a few text boxes and a scroll text box for the report. I need to be able to fill out the report then click a button to save it in a graphical form so I can fax, print or email it later. Currently, I'm just programmatically taking a screen capture and saving it to the photo's library (default for screen capture). Then I can just email it from photo's. This works ok, but is kind of hacky, at best. I've read through the new iPad 3.2 guide for creating PDF's (apparently it's supposed to be much easier than before) but I can not get it to work and I've spent countless hours on it now. I'm hoping someone has the answer for me. Alternatively, if anyone knows how I can redirect where the screen capture is stored (default is in the photo album) then maybe I can make that function work. If I could redirect the screen capture to store in my applications document folder, then I can use MFMailCompose to attach it to an email. Lastly, on a side note, does anyone know of a good way to capture a digital signature via touch. For instance, I'd love to have my users be able to just sign their name via touch at the bottom of the document before I convert to PDF or take a screen capture.   I'm using MooTools 1.4.5 and I want to change cursor before calling function that takes some time and after finished same function set cursor to default. I was not successful. After that I made simple example to change background color via plain JavaScript (no jQuery or MooTools plugin) and again I was not successful. If I insert alert function in a middle of lines where sets background color everything works fine (background color is red, click to message box, background color is yellow). Why it works so? Only last changing style is affected. I need something like that to change pointer before calling function that takes 10 seconds and setting cursor to default value after function is done.

• Win 2003 Junction Point to Remote Unix Share

  Env : Windows Server 2003 with already established shared folders over the local Domain via Windows DC and AD. - Linux box being used as a fileserver with the folder /files/share being R+W by all domain users, this is not a problem. I have already transfered the files from the Windows Box to the /files/share on the Linux Box however i now want to create a junction point in order to prevent users saving to the Windows box. I have tried the FileServer Administration on windows server 2003 however it will not allow me to junction remote servers. I have tried mounting the remote filesystem as a drive and proceeding that way however no joy. Anyone have any suggestions ?

• Behavior of Struts2 and convention-plugin when there is Index(extends ActionSupport)

  We have an Action class named 'Index' immediately under com.example.common.action and is annotated @ParentPackage('default') which is declared in package directive in struts.xml and has "/" for its namespace and extends "struts-default". It also declares @Result so that it responses with jsp files corresponding the string values returned by its execute() method. In our struts.xml, the following struts setting is configured along with other necessary configurations that are needed for convention-plugin. <constant name="struts.action.extension" value=","/> When accessing /my_context/none_existing_path, the request apparently hits this Index class and the contents of the jsp declared in the Index's @Result section gets returned. However, if we provide /my_context/, we receive the following error: HTTP Status 404-There is no Action mapped for namespace[/] and action name [] associated with context path [/my_context]. We want to know the reason why accessing /my_context/none_existing_path, where none_existing_path has no matching action, can fallback to Index class, but error is returned when when the URL requested is just /my_context/. Currently, our convention-plugin settings are declared as follows: <constant name="struts.convention.package.locators.basePackage" value="com.example"/> <constant name="struts.convention.package.locators" value="action"/> Strangely, if we changed the value of the struts.convention.package.locators.basePackage to om.example.common, in which the aforementioned Index file can be immediately found by narrowing the search scope, requesting /my_context/ displays the content of the jsps declared in @Result section of the Index class. However, as our action classes are distributed throughout the com.example.[a-z].action packages, where [a-z] represents the large volume of directories we have in our package structure, we cannot use this trick as a workaround. We have also tried placing index.jsp at the top level of the class path, and have the index.jsp redirect to /my_context/index, which worked but not what we want. Could this be a bug?   I cannot believe I am having trouble with this following string String filter = "name=Default;pattern=%%;start=Last;end=Now"; This is a short and possibly duplicate question, but how would I split this string to get: string Name = "Default"; string Pattern = "%%" ; string start = "Last" ; string end = "Now" ; Reason why I ask is my deadline is very soon, and this is literally the last thing I must do. I'm Panicking, and I'm stuck on this basic command. • sql queries slower than expected

  Before I show the query here are the relevant table definitions: CREATE TABLE phpbb_posts ( topic_id mediumint(8) UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL, poster_id mediumint(8) UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL, KEY topic_id (topic_id), KEY poster_id (poster_id), ); CREATE TABLE phpbb_topics ( topic_id mediumint(8) UNSIGNED NOT NULL auto_increment ); Here's the query I'm trying to do: SELECT p.topic_id, p.poster_id FROM phpbb_topics AS t LEFT JOIN phpbb_posts AS p ON p.topic_id = t.topic_id AND p.poster_id <> ... WHERE p.poster_id IS NULL; Basically, the query is an attempt to find all topics where the number of times someone other than the target user has posted in is zero. In other words, the topics where the only person who has posted is the target user. Problem is that query is taking a super long time. My general assumption when it comes to SQL is that JOINs of any are super fast and can be done in no time at all assuming all relevant columns are primary or foreign keys (which in this case they are). I tried out a few other queries: SELECT COUNT(1) FROM phpbb_topics AS t JOIN phpbb_posts AS p ON p.topic_id = t.topic_id; That returns 353340 pretty quickly. I then do these: SELECT COUNT(1) FROM phpbb_topics AS t JOIN phpbb_posts AS p ON p.topic_id = t.topic_id AND p.poster_id <> 77198; SELECT COUNT(1) FROM phpbb_topics AS t JOIN phpbb_posts AS p ON p.topic_id = t.topic_id WHERE p.poster_id <> 77198; And both of those take quite a while (between 15-30 seconds). If I change the < to a = it takes no time at all. Am I making some incorrect assumptions? Maybe my DB is just foobar'd?

• Win 7: How can I resize a window to make it much bigger than my screen?

  I have a window that I'd like to make much bigger than my physical screen (explanation of why below). I hit Alt+Space, M, and then press the Up arrow to move the title bar above the physical top of my screen. However, when I press Enter to set it, the title bar snaps back to the top of my screen. How can I prevent this from happening? Background: I want to get a hi-res image of a neighborhood map so that it can be printed to a poster. Google Earth has a "Save as JPG" feature, which will save the map in the window to a file. The bigger the window, the bigger the JPG; so, I'm trying to make the window as big as I can. Alternate suggestions welcome.

• Disable writing RAID degraded mode

  I have a RAID5 with 5 disks on my machine and suspect the motherboard chipset to fail at some points and make my raid going in degraded mode. Last time it happened I noticed it on the failure of the 2nd drive connected to the same chipset and lost a lot of data. So I would like to prevent this, and especially I would like to have mdadm disable writes on the raid if one of the disk fails. So that in between I get notified, I recover and can use my system again. Sadly I could not find it in man mdadm so I was wondering if this is possible via a tool or hidden option since for me it looks like a standard feature of a RAID system. If this is not possible I would also be happy with a solution to stop the raid if degraded.

  I am having some issues with code that is returning a pointer to a struct declared inside a class. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio and the compiler tells me that "Listnode" is unidentified. But if i do, instead: $element = $collection-get_element("test1"); $element = null; //or $element = new GenericObject(); $element-another_var = "bla"; echo $collection-get_element("test1")-another_var; the output is default like if it lost the reference. So, what's wrong? I have got the references to the variables of the element and not to the element itself? Any ideas?

• C# specifying generic delegate type param at runtime

The number of types is pretty much fixed, but the number of functions like foo or bar will increase by high numbers, so i dont want nested switchs. So how can i make this working without using nested switchs ?

• How to automatically copy a file uploaded by a user by FTP in Linux (CentOS)?

  Outside contractor says they need read/write/execute permissions on part of the filesystem so they can run a script. I'm ok with that, but I want to know what they're running, in case it turns out there is some nefarious code. I assume they are going to upload the file, run it, and then delete it to prevent me from finding out what they've done. How can I find out exactly what they've done? My question specifically asks for a way of automatically copying the file, which would be one way. But if you have another solution, that's fine. For example, if the file could be automatically copied to /home/root/uploaded_files/ that would be awesome.

• Local Profile Map to New Active Directory Login

  Preface: I am sure this has been asked some where on the site before but I couldn't find any questions about it, or maybe I am not using the correct verbiage... Our admins are giving us a new active directory account on different domain. As I am a progammer (a member of IT) we are the group gets assigned new accounts first to test the migration. When I log in to my local machine using the new account I get a new local profile. Not the biggest deal, but on the new profile I am missing mappings, desktop items, wallpaper, etc. Our users I going to throw a fit if there is no way around this. Two Questions: I've seen references to NTUSER.DAT and suggestions to Copy all user files from "Documents and Settings", but is there a good way or is it even possible to associate my local profile with the new AD account? Is there any thing that our admins can do to prevent this from happening?

  On my PC with Windows 7 Professional x64, I have a folder of images that I use for my theme. Under Personalization (right click on desktop - Personalize) it is the only theme under 'My Themes'. Repeatedly, I have noticed the background has stopped rotating and is stuck on one image. When I go to Personalization, I notice a new theme has been created called 'Unsaved Theme' with one image from my folder and is the current theme. To fix this, I set the theme back to my folder and delete the single image theme. How can I prevent this from reoccurring as it has happened multiple times?

• How do I cast from int to generic type Integer?

  I'm relatively new to Java and am used to generics in C# so have struggled a bit with this code. Basically I want a generic method for getting a stored Android preference by key and this code, albeit ugly, works for a Boolean but not an Integer, when it blows up with a ClassCastException. • Iptables to lock down compromised server to a single ip

  I have a Linux server which is compromised, I can see nasty looking perl scripts executing with root privileges. I want to get some data off it before I wipe it. How can I block all inbound and outbound traffic except for my ip? It's a Centos server I assume i can do this with iptables? I'm aware a the server is rooted there is a possibility that attackers could have made changes on the server that would prevent this from working. Ill be testing to make sure and only have the server online for a couple of hours before it is nuked.

  Is there a way to change the default format of a date in Postgres? Normally when I query a Postgres database, dates come out as yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss+tz, like 2011-02-21 11:30:00-05. But one particular program the dates come out yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.s, that is, there is no time zone and it shows tenths of a second. Apparently something is changing the default date format, but I don't know what or where. I don't think it's a server-side configuration parameter, because I can access the same database with a different program and I get the format with the timezone. I care because it appears to be ignoring my "set timezone" calls in addition to changing the format. All times come out EST. Additional info: If I write "select somedate from sometable" I get the "no timezone" format. But if I write "select to_char(somedate::timestamptz, 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss-tz')" then timezones work as I would expect. This really sounds to me like something is setting all timestamps to implicitly be "to_char(date::timestamp, 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss.m')". But I can't find anything in the documentation about how I would do this if I wanted to, nor can I find anything in the code that appears to do this. Though as I don't know what to look for, that doesn't prove much.

• Save a tab in a jQuery Modal Window for future Display

  Hello, long time reader, first time poster. I’m coming with an issue that many of you will find trivial but I’m bashing my head against it for too long time and I can’t seems to find any clue on the internet. As a total scrubs with JavaScript, I’m trying to use JQuery.ui smartmodal windows (v 1.8.rc1) for displaying two football teams in two separate tabs. Like France in Tab(0) and England in Tab(1). When I open this modal window, the first tab (France) is always opened by default. Everything’s fine until here : I’m trying to improve this modal window by remembering what was the last Tab the user was looking when he closed the modal, for reopening it (in spite of the first tab, by default) when the user will reopen this modal latter on. I’ve already tried to use the “selecting & loading a jquery tab programatically » method but without any kind of success, and I’m slowly running out of options (and time). Thanks for reading me, if you have any idea on how can I use a parameter in the smartmodal call, that would greatly help me.

The problem is, I see existing apps with widely varying conventions for field label styling. Some do not do the negative margin adjustment, like I have above. Some don't. Some appear to override the label TextBlock Margin so that it is indented an additional 12 pixels on the left (i.e. "24,0,12,0" instead of the default "12,0,12,0"). Some apps put the labels to the left of the fields themselves (I hate that). Is there some standard design guidance on field labels in Windows Phone 7? I read through the design template PDF and could only determine that the field labels should be upper case on the first word (preferably only one word labels), and should NOT have a colon at the end. I didn't see anything with regards to margins or alignment between the label and the field.
