• starting .net application from command prompt is having issue when path is in SHORTNAME

  when we start our .net application using a double click on the explorer or from command prompt where your folder path is proper full name then there is no issue at all. But when you start it from command prompt with the path being a Shortname involving a ~ the application behaves weird. IF is entering condition though the condition evaluates to FALSE in quick watch. Accessing a value of a variable in quick watch and immediate window shows value. but when you use it to assign to another variable in code, it returns NULL / no value. another observation: when you attach Visual studio to debug the app, and when you go about "Set as next statement" visual studio is giving options to select which dll to work up on. i have never seen this prompt before!

Currently I am using some trial version of Visual Studio which is going to end and I wondered how can I obtain a valid license to work on the project without spending a lot of money. Please pay attention that the Express edition does not help me since my application is running on Windows Mobile 6.5 which is not supported on the Express edition (and the 2010 Express edition supports only Windows Mobile Phone 7 series development). In the general sense, are there some organizations that donate software licenses for open source projects?

• How do I run an XSLT file?

  Alright this seems like a stupid question but I can't figure it out. I'm writing an XSLT file to translate an XML document into an XHTML document. I've used both Visual Studio and XML Notepad 2007 to preview the results of my XSLT file, but now I want to actually write out a real XHTML file so I can see how it looks in other browsers. Neither Visual Studio or XML NotePad have an obvious way to save the preview. Am I missing something. Obviously the file is getting created because something is being previewed, but I need to know where that file is being created or better yet choose its location.

• fstream stopping math.h from working

  I am creating a program in C++ in which I need to read a text file in. I have included the fstream header file, which allows me to open the file, but having added the include, I now receive countless errors relating to math.h functions. Examples: 1>c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\cmath(19): error C2061: syntax error : identifier 'acosf' 1>c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\cmath(19): error C2059: syntax error : ';' Is there any way I can include the text file reading functions of fstream without compromising the math.h functions? And why does this conflict occur anyway? /Edit/ It seems the errors are in the cmath standard header file. It is nothing I have access to, but for the sake of completion, here is the code that is causing the errors: using _CSTD acosf; using _CSTD asinf; using _CSTD atanf; using _CSTD atan2f; using _CSTD ceilf; (etcetera)

  Hi, Im trying to create my own class which contains a DrawingVisual, something like this public class MyObject { public DrawingVisual visual; public bool faceup; public bool flipped; } I have a drag and drop from a listview to a canvas, but when I try to get the object which back from the Canvas i only get the visual, not any of the other stuff in the class.   Hello, a few weeks ago a co-worker of mine spent about two hours finding out why this piece of C++/CLI code won't compile with Visual Studio 2008 (I just tested it with Visual Studio 2010... same story). public ref class Test { generic<class T> where T : value class void MyMethod(Nullable<T> nullable) { } }; The compiler says: Error 1 error C3214: 'T' : invalid type argument for generic parameter 'T' of generic 'System::Nullable', does not meet constraint 'System::ValueType ^' C:\Users\Simon\Desktop\Projektdokumentation\GridLayoutPanel\Generics\Generics.cpp 11 1 Generics Adding ValueType will make the code compile. public ref class Test { generic<class T> where T : value class, ValueType void MyMethod(Nullable<T> nullable) { } }; My question is now. • Using WPFPerf to profile a WPF 4.0 application doesn't show me any information

  I am trying to use WPFPerf to profile a WPF 4.0 application (I have the latest WPFPerf that should work on WPF 4.0 aps). I start the tool Visual Profiler from WPFPerf, I start my aplication, but after that nothing happens and the element tree from the Visual Profiler is empty. No other error message is shown. Can anyone tell me what am I not doint right? As an additional information, when I try to analize my .exe assembly or any other assembly from my application, I get a BadFormatException saying that the assembly was build with a newer version of .NET. From the download page http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=191420 I see that this version of WPFPerf should be ok for my app

  Hey Now, Is there a SQL Server Management studio add-on/plug-in that will enhance the tab switching dialog box when Ctrl+Tab is used to switch tabs to provide a thumbnail image of the tab? When we use Ctrl+Tab to switch tabs we see the list of tabs open. When we switch tabs in Visual Studio we get a small thumb nail preview screen of the tab along with the tab names. It would be great if there was an add-on that we could install to provide an image in addition to the file names. Thx, Catto

  Hello, I have a python project that calls a c++ dll that calls a c# dll. I wanted all to run without installing visual studio 2008. I allready made the c++ part by installing Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) and I also installed .net framework 3.5. I started coding and I got this message. I did a little google-ing and I cant figure it out. This is a WPF application created with Visual Studio 2010.

• sql server 2005 replication article conflict

  Hi all, I have a sql server 2005 database that I want to setup replication for. The problem is that the database has two schemas both of which have a table with the same name in it. For some reason even though the tables are in different schemas the replication creation fails when done through management studio due to conflicting article names (i assume its trying to create the same name for both tables in the different schemas). Is there any workaround for doing this in the studio, I can probably write a script or program to do this but just for this one thign is a bit annoying and it probably wont be allowed to run in production. Perhaps there is a hot fix or something I'm not aware about? Cheers,

  I am currently playing with some open source home automation software www.domotiga.nl The software is built in Gambas2 (a graphical programming language similar to visual basic). I am considering building something similar or porting domotiga to a server based application/service. The application would need a web front end and i will likely be developing in debian (arm). But i'm not sure if php or python are suitable for server based applications which need to be always running (collecting data etc) rather than just running when accessed. Which technology(s) / language(s) would you suggest i look into? I used to do a lot of Visual Basic, then VB.NET, now C# and have played with php a few years back- but don't really want this to sway the decision too much as i should be able to pickup whatever language if i decide to proceed.

  I am attempting to design and build a website for my friends band. There is minimal content to be included such as bio,news,enbemdded Audio/Visual material. My web dev expertise is average. I'm basicaly looking for inspiration, I was edging towards embedding a silverlight deepzoom xap object to add some visual stimulation, perhaps by featuring a high res photo of the bandshardware/equipment which zooms when mouseover occurs. Does anyone have any cool ideas for a central feature for this site, and which way to approact it in terms of technique (js,css,silverlight etc) If anyone has any immediate ideas which they think would be cool then I am eager to hear them! Also if anyone can link me to any cool band sites they have come across recently I would be greatful,nothing too complicated though please I will be doing all the work myself.   I've just upgraded an existing SQL Server 2005 to 2008 by running the installer (not the platform installer). It all seems to have worked - there were no errors reported and my code that connects to these databases still works fine. The problem is, when I try installing SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008 I am shown then following error message when I select to add new features to an existing instance of SQL Server 2008: The SQL Server instance 'SQL1MINUS102' already has an Instance ID '2' that is different than the specified Instance ID 'SQL1MINUS102'. Specifying more than one instance ID for the same SQL Server instance is not supported. Here is a screenshot of the installation dialog and the setup discovery report: Screenshot Notice that there are two instances with the same name. So any ideas how I should recifiy this so that I can install Management studio? Thanks in advance

• How to Embed/Link binary data into a C++ DLL

  So I have a Visual Studio 2008 project which has a large amount of binary data that it is currently referencing. I would like to package the binary data much like you can do with C# by adding it as a "resource" and compiling it as a DLL. Lets say all my data has an extension of ".data" and is currently being read from the visual studio project. Is there a way that you can compile or link the data into the .dll which it is calling? I've looked at some of the google link for this and so far I haven't come up with anything - the only possible solution I've come up with is to use something like ResGen to create a .resources file and then link it using AssemblyLinker with /Embed or /Link flags. I dont think it'd work properly though because I dont have text files to create the .resources files, but rather binary files themselves. Any advice?

  I am getting an error in visual studio that appears to be flat out wrong. Here it is: The tag contains duplicate 'ID' attributes. on the following line: Rica.Yoodul.MiniSites.BaseMiniSiteUserControl ucMaster = (Rica.Yoodul.MiniSites.BaseMiniSiteUserControl)Page.LoadControl("~/MiniSites/" + templateName + "/Master.ascx"); I have checked though both the master and child pages for repeats of the id I last added (the only one added since last successful test) and the ID is used once across both files. Other than controls (e.g ), is there anything this error refers to? Or is there a workaround? I have checked I am editing the right files. On the face of it this appears to be a visual studio bug, but I want to be sure.

  I'm looking into Mono and .NET C#, we'll be needing to run the code on Linux Servers in the future when the project is developed. At this point I've been looking at ASP.NET MVC and Mono I run an ubuntu distro and want to do development for a web application, some of the other developers use windows and run other .NET items with Visual Studio. What does Mono not provide that Visual Studio does? If running this on Linux later shouldn't we use Mono Develop ? Is there some third party tools or addin's that might be an issue with Mono later?

• Using Linux C code and header files to compile a Windows DLL

  I would like to know if in general it is possible to create a C++ DLL with Visual C++ 2010 starting from C code and the header files I find in a Linux distribution. Theoretically, if I take a piece of C code (that includes different header files) from Linux and I find in the Linux file system all the header files needed for the linkage of the project, will I be able to successfully compile the project in Windows with Visual C++ 2010? Are there some examples or a tutorial for doing this? After compiling a DLL, I would like to use it in a C# application, which I will run under Linux with Mono.
