  • The network printer will only print blank pages and will not stop. What should I do?

    I work in a library, so we have a Ricoh printer that is networked between all of us. I just recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 64bit on my desktop and have been trying to set up the printer without success. Ubuntu found the printer immediately and allowed me to set it up. When I hit test print, I get one sheet with writing on it and then it prints blank pages and will not stop until I turn off the printer. I tried printing from a document and I get the same one page with writing and then all the blank pages again. Below is what the page says with writing on it.   • Can't boot into ubuntu 12.04, grub menu wont show

    Today i downloaded the ubunto 12.04 64bit and installed it on a 115gb partition next to a 15 gb swap alongside windows 7. (I have 2 drives. One with only windows (500gb) and another with a partition for (250gb) windows and (115gb) the ubunto and (15gb) swap partitions.) But after the installation i can't find out how to run ubuntu. It just run windows. I read that it should show a grub menu. i tried: Holding both shift keys at boot up. Running the cd-ubundu and edit the grub file. Also pressing the esc and some funtion button during boot. Nothing seems to work.

  • Popper Email Notifier not working

    Using Maverick 64bit I downloaded Popper Email Notifier today. Installed it from the v023 deb. https://launchpad.net/popper I configured it, and the TEST tab shows I configured everything properly. I can't get Popper to appear in the notification menu. I have restarted gnome-pannel, restarted my computer, reinstalled the app. No luck. I checked the /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/ folder, and there's only the defaults there. Anyone know how to fix this? Even if someone knows what file I can drop into that folder to make it work that'd be great. Edit: I wonder if it's because I removed the evolution-indicator package? Thanks!

  • Why does Ubuntu Freezes on ASUS K42DY laptop with RADEON HD6470M Graphics Card?

    Hi,I have an ASUS K42DY laptop with AMD Phenom II x2, 8 GB Ram , 500 GB Hard Drive and has a didicated ATI RADEON HD 6470M Graphics Card and I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit on it. I have installed GNOME 3 and also followed this Make Ubuntu look like Mac OS X. I have also installed apps from the software center, getdeb & playdeb all of which worked fine. However, I noticed that Ubuntu freezes after inactivity let's say 1-3hrs. I have already set power setting to never standby or hibernate. This is completely annoying because all I can do is log-out via ctrl+alt+del or manually shut down and reboot my laptop. What should I do? By the way, this happens on all shells Unity, Gnome (even with the basic) and Cairo Dock.I set Swap Space at 8GB during installation. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

    I use my Thinkpad laptop with a docking station. The docking station is connected to my router via LAN. When I walk around the house I use my laptop with WLAN. Is it possible (and how) to manage these devices with a script or something to work like this: If a LAN-Connection is up, the OS should turn off Wifi and if LAN-Connection gets lost (undocking) Wifi should turn on automatically. I use Ubuntu 11.04 64bit with Gnome 2. The system works on an Lenovo ThinkPad R500 with.     I have been trying to install ubuntu along windows but failed. the issue is that I get a graphical glitch with the colours of the ubuntu loading screen while installing from usb and no progress is made, the pc freezes. I've tryied the nomodeset solution, but when I have to reboot I get the same problem. I've tried ubuntu 13.10, 13.04, 12.04 etc...both generic and for amd: nothing worked... any idea how this could be resolved or which distribution/iso I should try for my system? thank you.   • Ubuntu does not recognize install files (easytether)

    I am running Ubuntu 12.4 64amd. I cant get easy tether to install regardless of which version I use (32 or 64bit.) I keep getting an error when I try to run it in the command line. It tells me it not a valid deb file. If I click it on the desktop the instal manager comes up but the install button is not highlighted for me to click to install it that way. Please help. I'll be using my phone as internet modem

  • Spurious resets on Ubuntu

    I have a PC running Ubuntu 13.04 64bit, and I do weekly updates, so everything should be up-to-date. Everything is running fine, but sometimes, once-twice a week a complete reset happens. I think it must be software or hardware (perhaps Videocard) related, but I can't figure out what could be wrong. Can anybody suggest some ways, log files, where I could continue to search? By looking just at dmesg/dmesg.0 and Xorg.0.log I got nowhere. I cant find even a user application segfault. Any help is really appreciated.

    So i have a native executable (both for OS X and Windows) tucked inside a .jar, which is then programatically extracted to a temp location and executed from there. Unfortunately this executable will not run properly on my Windows machine (Win 7 64bit), when i manually set the compatibility mode to a Windows XP preset however, it will work. Is there a way i can do this programatically from Java?

    Hello, I'm using pthreads-win32 for portable threading support for windows. At least, according to the documentation pthreads-win32 should work with MSVC and even MSVC builds provided. But I don't know if the library is tested with latest MSVC compilers like MSVC-2008 and if it is supported under 64bit windows. Does anybody aware of any issues with this library? Note: Do not even try to recommend using Boost.Thread, I'm not interested in. And I'm familiar with Boost.Thread library

With R 2.10.1 the following code spawned 6 R processes for parallel processing: require(foreach) require(doSNOW) cl = makeCluster(6, type='SOCK') registerDoSNOW(cl) bl2 = foreach(i=icount(length(unqmrno))) %dopar% { (Some code here) } stopCluster(cl) When I run the same code in R 2.11 Win64, the 6 R processes are not spawning, and the code hangs. I'm wondering if this is a problem with the port of SNOW to 2.11-64bit, or if any additional code is required on my part. Thanks

Actually, the dotTrace button in VisualStudio is also greyed out. the VisualStudio AddIns menu list dotTrace as started. VS2008 sp1 Windows 7 64bit R# 4.5 dotTrace 3.1 I tried Restarts, Reinstall, Re-whatever. Has anyone experienced that also? Does anyone has a solution for that?

    On a Ubuntu 9 64bit Linux machine, sudo takes longer time to start. "sudo echo hi" takes 2-3 minutes. strace on sudo tells poll("/etc/pam.d/system-auth", POLLIN) timesout after 5 seconds and there are multiple calls(may be a loop) to same system call (which causes 2-3min delay). Any idea why sudo has to wait for /etc/pam.d/system-auth? Any tunable to make sudo to timeout faster? Thanks Samuel

That file is located in C:\Program Files\ under 32-bit systems or C:\Program FIles (x86)\ under x64 systems. I can write: "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\file.exe" under 64bit systems or "%ProgramFiles%\file.exe" under 32bit systems but I want to make the script universal. Is there any way of determining that path universally?

Some initial testing is showing Direct Connect in 64bit dotConnect running 30% slower at times than our original ODP.net/OCI 32 bit solution.
