  • Can't access a partion that has a virus on it

    My wife's computer had a virus alarm go off, so I am looking into it. The virus is supposed to be on the D: drive. I wanted to talk a quick look at the file, but I cannot not. It has one file that I can get to. It is D:\Recovery. That shows a "Protected by PC Angel" graphic. How can I get past this? Should I do it? Is the virus scanner wrong? (I am using Avast).

  • Teaching OO to VBA developers [closed]

    I work with several developers that come from less object oriented background like (VB6, VBA) and are mostly self-taught. As part of moving away from those technologies we recently we started having weekly workshops to go over the features of C#.NET and OO practices and design principles. After a couple of weeks of basic introduction I noticed that they had a lot of problems implementing even basic code. For instance it took probably 15 minutes to implement a Stack.push() and a full hour to implement a simple Stack fully. These developers were trying to do things like passing top index as a parameter to the method, not creating an private array, using variables out of scope. But most of all not going through the "design (dia/mono)log" (I need something to do X, so maybe I'll make an array, or put it here). I am a little confused because they are smart people and are able to produce functional code in their traditional environments. I'm curious if anybody else has encountered a similar thing and if there are any particular resources, exercises, books, ideas that would be helpful in this circumstance.

However not for firefox. I'm running Haproxy locally on my mac for dev, not sure if it has anything to do with it. I'm using haproxy 1.4.8 and Firefox 3.6.15. I've tried clearing cache on firefox and it didn't help, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the way HAProxy parses through the Firefox request headers.

    I am facing a company that have a fairly recent Microsoft Dynamics NAV (C/Side) setup that comes with a non-SQL storage system called the native database server. I would need to be remotely connect to this database, and perform what would equate to SQL queries with very modest needs (no join, no complex filtering). I am rather ignorant of this technology, does someone knows to how make remote queries to this ERP?

    Hi I have a problem where the user has a form in MSAccess. The form contains information about the client. The client fields are – client’s first name, client’s last name, their street address, suburb and city, their landline number and their cell phone number and their email address. However the user does not always want to see the email address and would like to have a button that will show or hide the email address. I have to write a set of instructions that will solve this problem. Can anyone help??

  • Games consoles won't connect through the TP-Link TL-WA500G Access Point

    I hope that someone can help me. I have several Laptops and other devices, all using my Wireless Router (Sky Digital Netgear) To extend the range to the back of the house, I purchased a TP-Link TL-WA500G Range extender. configured just as a pure repeater, it picks up the signal from the Netgear Router. The Netgear Router does the DHCP, handing out the IP addresses. This all works a treat with several different laptops and my iPone4S, but when my son tries to use his XBox360, Sony Playstation3 or the Nintendo Wii those devices fail to acquire an IP address. They just sit their waiting for the IP config. This also happens with my wife's HTC desire ONE Android phone. My son says that, when his HTC Desire C won't get an IP address, he just unplugs the AP briefly - the phone will connect and he puts the AP back on. Once he is connected to the Router, the AP won't disturb function. The Games Consoles don't seem to work like that. They stop working, when the AP is reconnected. I had my son try to configure permanent IP addresses, and he said that did not work either, though I have to confirm that, as I did not see that for myself. Has anybody seen this before? I have searched the Net and have not found any similar problems anywhere. I wonder if there is setting somewhere that would fix this. Many thanks for anyone reading this and trying to help. M

  • No remote access to PostgreSQL db

    i'm stuck in connecting to a PostresSQL database from remote host. The server is accepting incoming connections on port 5432 and i've configured pg_hba.conf like this: local all all md5 host all all 0.0.0.0/0 md5 and the postgresql.conf like this: listen_addresses = '*' port = 5432 max_connections = 100 I don't have any problem accessing from local but when i try to connect via psql with something like this: psql -U myuser -h hostname db_name I get this error: psql: FATAL: no pg_hba.conf entry for host "87.zz.yy.xxx", user "myuser", database "db_name", SSL off I also tried to put the host 87.zz.yy.xxx in the pg_hba.conf file without success.

  • "Error 5: Access denied" when installing programs with UAC turned off

    I'm having some trouble installing msysgit 1.7.3.1preview on Windows 7 Home Premium. I downloaded the setup file from the Google Code and then ran it. Upon running, I got the following error: I have tried downloading and running different older versions of msysgit with no luck. For the record, I have administrative privileges and there are no other user accounts on this Windows machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. UPDATE: I have managed to semi-fix this problem. I turned on User Account Control back to the default setting and and then ran the setup file as an administrator. I successfully managed to install Git. However, this means I have to keep UAC turned on whenever I want to install a new program (I realised that it persists over all programs; not just Git). So it's quite a nuisance. If anybody knows how I could keep UAC disabled whilst still being able to install programs without running their setup files as an administrator, I would be eternally grateful. UPDATE: I have changed the question title to better suit the new situation.

The following seems logical to me: location /oauth { allow 87.240.156.0/24; deny all; rewrite ^(.*)$ /index.php last; } But this way rewrite happens all the time, allow and deny directives are ignored. I don't understand why...

  • Windows 7 - saved wifi access points disappear from list

    I'm having a weird issue with Windows 7 x64: I'm moving my notebook between two locations weekly, at each I have a wifi router. They both have hidden SSID-s, which are different. If I save one, the other one gets deleted from the list, as if overwritten, so I always have to retype the SSID and password, if I want to connect after moving my computer. At first I tought the problem was caused by both routers having the same password, but after I changed one (suffixed it with "_2") it persisted. What can I do about this? Thanks.

    I have my work system on the ip range 172.16.xx.yy, and I have my personal system on the ip range 10.0.xx.yy. Both of them, however, are on the same network of my University, but on different LANs/VLANs (i hope i used the right word here). How can I remotely connect to my work system from my PC, given that both use private IP addresses? If such a thing is not possible with current set up, what minimal changes are required for it?

  • Can I turn off inline syntax checking in the Office 2003 VBA editor?

    As anybody who uses VBA in Office 2003 will know, it has the extremely frustrating tendency to do a syntax check every time you click off a line. For example, if I start writing a line of code, I might go > For Each application In And then think "crap, what's the application collection called?" So I'll hit "page up" to find it, and get (in this case) a "Compile Error". Can I turn this off?

  • Can I password protect a Publisher file?

    I was asked ealier this week if it was possible to password protect a Microsoft Office 2007 Publisher document. I was under the impression that it would be like protecting a Word document, by going to Office Save As Word Document Tools General Options and creating a password to modify, like shown below. This also works for Excel documents. However, in Publisher 2007 the option is not there. The only option under "Tools" is "Map network drive". We overcame the issue as saving as a PDF and distributing that, but is there a way to do what we want?

  • Setup Remote Access in Windows Home Server

    One of the many awesome features of Windows Home Server, is the ability to access your server and other computers on your network remotely. Today we show you the steps to enable Remote Access to your home server from anywhere you have an Internet connection. Remote Access in Windows Home Server has a lot of great features like uploading and downloading files from shared folders, accessing files from machines on your network, and controling machines remotely (on supported OS versions). Here we take a look at the basics of setting it up, choosing a domain name, and verifying you can connect remotely. Setup Remote Access in Windows Home Server Open the Windows Home Server Console and click on Settings. Next select Remote Access, it is off by default, just click the button to turn it on. Wait while your router is configured for remote access, when it’s complete click Next. Notice that it will enable UPnP, if you don’t wish to have that enabled, you can manually forward the correct ports. If you have any problems with the router being automatically configured, we’ll be taking a look at a more detailed troubleshooting guide in the future. The router is successfully configured, and we can continue to the next process of configuring our domain name. The Domain Name Setup Wizard will start. Notice you will need a Windows Live ID to set it up –which is typically your hotmail address. If you don’t already have one, you can get one here. Type in your Live ID email address and password and click Next… Agree to the Home Server Privacy Statement and the Live Custom Domains Addendum. If you’re concerned about privacy and want to learn more about the domain addendum, make sure to read about it before agreeing. There is nothing abnormal to point out about either statement, but if this is your first time setting it up, it’s good to review the information.   Now choose a name for the domain. You should select something that is easy to remember and identifies your home server. The name can contain up to 63 characters, numbers, letters, and hyphens…and must begin and end with a letter or number. When you have the name figured out click the Confirm button. Note: You can only register one domain name per Live ID. If the name isn’t already taken, you’ll get a confirmation message indicating it’s god to go. The wizard is complete and you can now access the home server from the URL provided. A few other things to point out after you’ve set it up…under Domain Name click on the Details button… Which pulls up the domain detail information and you can refresh the data to verify everything is working correctly. Or you can click the Configure button and then change or release your current domain name. Under Web site settings, you can change you site page headline to whatever you want it to be. Accessing Home Server Remotely After you’ve gotten everything setup for your home server domain, you can begin to access it when you’re away from home. Simply type in the domain address you created in the previous steps. The start page is rather boring…and to start accessing your data, click the Log On button in the upper right hand corner. Then enter in your home server credentials to gain access to your files, folders, and network computers. You won’t be able to log in with your administrator user account however, to protect security of your network. Once you’re logged in, you’ll be able to access different parts of your home server shares and network computers. Conclusion Now that you have Remote Access setup, you should be able to access and manage your files easily. Being able to access data from your home server remotely is great when you need to get certain files while on the road. The web UI is pretty self explanatory, works best in IE as ActiveX is required, and is smooth and easy to work with. The description does not need to be detailed however; I am trying to find empirical evidence and professional opinion/fact to determine which of the three databases are best suited for the required size of company (stated or unstated).   • WPF application with MS Access database as a data source

    I have a Microsoft Access 2010 database. Now, using Visual Studio 2010, I want to create a WPF application and add the database as a data source. The app will have a window with a frame that provides navigation through pages. No problem so far. But: -What is the right way to set up the database in this scenario? Tables only? Or must everything go via queries? (VS2010 talks about views which I assume (?) are queries) -Database data must be updatable and records can be added. Some relationships go through link tables (many-to-many) and there are nullable foreign key relationships. Must I take manual steps to make it work? -While adding the data source VS2010 created an xsd from my Access database. I think the xsd might need further tweaking for the application to work the right way. What if I change my Access database design, I'd have to regenerate the xsd again as well. Is this right, and is it the way it is usually done? OR, should I let the original Access database go and give the application the capability to create new empty databases? -How do you provide controls in a page to step through the records in a table? Is there a special database control? -What is the way (WPF class?) to load records into the data context that displays in a page? (At this level it probably does not matter what type of data source it is.)

  • Access violations in strange places when using Windows file dialogs

    A long time ago I found out that I was getting access violations in my code due to the use of the Delphi Open File and/or Save File dialogs, which encapsulate the Windows dialogs. I asked some questions on a few forums and I was told that it may have been due to the way some programs add hooks to the shell system that result in DLLs getting injected in every process, some of which can cause havoc with a program. For the record, the programming environment I use is Delphi 6 Professional running on Windows XP 32-bit. At the time I got around it by not using Delphi's Dialog components and instead calling straight into comdlg32.dll. This solved the problem wonderfully. Today I was working with memory mapped files for the first time and sure enough, access violations started cropping up in weird parts of the code. I tried my comdlg32.dll direct calls and this time it didn't help. To isolate the problem as a test I created a list box with the exact same files I was using during testing. These are the exact same test files I was selecting from an Open File dialog and then launching my memory mapped file with. I set things up so that by clicking on a file in the list box, I would use that file in my memory mapped file test instead of calling into a comdlg32.dll dialog function to select a test file. Again, the access violatons vanished. To show you how dramatic a fix it was I went from experiencing an access violation within 1 to 3 trials to none at all. Unfortunately, it's going to bite me later on of course when I do need to use file dialogs. Has anyone else dealt with this issue too and found the real culprit? Did any of you find a solution I could use to fix this problem instead of dancing around it like I am now? Thanks in advance.

  • Changes in Access DB are not saved since updating to Windows 7

    Hi I'm working with a program that accesses an MS-Access DB. The problem is that if I open the db file with Access, the values I see aren't the values I see when I'm using the program. For example, There is a table PARAMS with various program variables, one of them is the date I last loaded a certain file. In access it reads April 12th 2010, while in the program it reads May 7th 2010 (this is correct). April 12th is about the time I upgraded the computer to Windows 7. Also, the mdb file sits next to the program executable in C:\Program Files (x86); and I know that Win7 doesn't allow programs to write to the program files dir. So where are the changes saved? What I've tried: I've tried opening the mdb file on another computer - still reads the wrong (old) values I've tried copying the entire program dir to a different folder - now both the program and ms-access read the wrong values. Can someone tell me how to get a version of the DB with all the values up to date with the program? Thanks.
