  • How to display only one letter in Flex Text Layout Framework ContainerController?

    I'm trying to implement dropped initials feature into my Flex application. Since Text Layout Framework does not support floating, the only known solution is to create additional containers that will be linked together, displaying the same textflow. Width and positioning of these containers has to be set in such a way that it will pretend that it's float. I'm using the same solution for dropped initials. Basically, I'm creating three containers, one for the initial letter (first letter in text flow), the other for text floating around, and the 3rd one to display text below these two. All these containers share one textflow. I have big issues with forcing controller to display only one letter from the text flow, and size it accordingly, so that it wont take any unnecessary aditional space and won't get any more text into it. Using ContainerController.getContentBounds() returns me size of whole sprite of the letter (with ascent/descent empty parts), not the height/width of the actual rendered letter. I'm using textFlow.flowComposer.getLineAt(0).getTextLine().getAtomBounds(0), but i think it's still not right. Also, even if I set container for this dimensions, it sometimes display additional text in it, especially for bigger fonts. See screen : Also, if I set width to just 1px less that contentBounds, things are going crazy, containers are moved around, positioned with big margins, etc. How should I solve this? Is it a bug in TLF / Player? Can I fix it somehow? Can I detect the size of the letter, or make containercontroller autosize to fit just one letter only?

  • flex builder 3 compiler won't show errors or compile specific pages

    In flexbuilder 3 for some mxml files I can purposely put in syntax errors and the compiler will seem to compile the specific page(but actually not compile it) or report any errors for that page. Is there any way that you know of to get the compiler to report the errors to me so I can get it to compile the page. I've tried rebuilding all and cleaning the project already.

  • Styling buttons of Flex TabNavigator

    I created a TabNavigator with a bunch of NavigatorContent inside it, and want to skin just the buttons of the tabs themselves. So I added a skinClass, but looks like in the documentation, there's no skin part to target the button specifically. Do I have to style the mx:TabNavigator itself to accomplish this? I was hoping not since I don't know how to style mx components and am more comfortable with styling spark. Any other alternatives that I didn't think about?

    I'm trying to get the sibling of an mxml tag similar to the way siblings are selected in javascript. Is this possible in Actionscript?   • How do I sync Dreamweaver site definitions across 2 computers?

    I use Dreamweaver on my laptop and Desktop PC and frequently change between them. I keep all my sites synced using Syncplicity (similar to Dropbox, which indecently I also use) I want my site definitions to be synced across the two computers. If I add a new site on one computer I want it to appear on the other one. I know I can export all sites on one computer and then get Syncplicity to sync the files to the other computer at which point I can import them. However this relies on me remembering to do this each time I add a new site, and it's also quite time consuming. As far as I can tell, Dreamweaver (at least upto CS4- not sure about CS5) stupidly stores the site definitions in the registry. I really don't know why they do this- if they stored it in xml files then I could easily sync the information. Does anyone know if what I am asking is possible?

    Hi All, I was just going through one code used to draw one chart. This code is written in the updateDisplayList of the itemrenderer of column chart. I am not good at the graphics part of flex. Can anybody please explain me what this code is doing.     Hey Guys, i have a Problem to send a value from the DataGrid to a function- this is my function: private function browseLoc( location:String ):void { Alert.show(location,'Information'); } Now i have my DataGrid which receives Information from an XML File. Everything works fine. All Information is shown correctly with that Tags: <mx:Image x="10" y="346" width="157" height="107" scaleContent="true" source="{codeworxx.pages.page[selectedPageIndex].preview}"/> <mx:Label x="10" y="492" width="157" fontWeight="bold" text="{codeworxx.pages.page[selectedPageIndex].visible}"/> <mx:Text x="10" y="513" width="157" text="{codeworxx.pages.page[selectedPageIndex].description}"/> <mx:Button x="10" y="461" label="Visit Website" width="159" click="browseLoc('{codeworxx.pages.page[selectedPageIndex].url}')"/> except the Button.     I am using an component, and currently have a dataProvider working that is an ArrayCollection (have a separate question about how to make this an XML file... but I digress). Variable declaration looks like this: [Bindable] private var _dpImageList : ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection([ {"location" : "path/to/image1.jpg"}, {"location" : "path/to/image2.jpg"}, {"location" : "path/to/image3.jpg"} ]); I then refer to like this: <s:List id="lstImages" width="100%" dataProvider="{_dpImageList}" itemRenderer="path.to.render.ImageRenderer" skinClass="path.to.skins.ListSkin" > <s:layout> <s:HorizontalLayout gap="2" /> </s:layout> </s:List> Currently, it would appear that each item is processed asynchronously. However, I want them to be processed synchronously. Reason: I am displaying a list of images, and I want the leftmost one rendered first, followed by the one to its right, and so on. Edit: I just found this answer. Do you think that could be the same issue?

  • How do I animate a single ChartSeriesItem in a Flex 3 Chart?

    Here's my setup... I have a ColumnChart above a DataGrid. When the user clicks on an individual column in the chart, I programmatically select the corresponding cell in the DataGrid. Conversely, if a user clicks a cell on the DataGrid, I select the corresponding column in the Chart and change it's color to haloBlue. This work well, however if possible I’d like to make the column stand out more. Is there a way to animate an individual column and not the entire series? For example, I might like to make the column zoom or expand out and back to it’s original size once selected. Or, if this is not possible, can a stroke be added to only the selected column and not the entire series? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I know I can easily use flex to browse to or launch a Java app, but there are things I can only do if I can run the Java from WITHIN an MXML Component. I the strictest sense, I know it's not impossible (ie: if you had all the source code for flex and for the jvm), but what's the least impractical means to this end? Showcase your creativity.

  • Generating Source Info For Flex BitmapData.

    Instead of populating the BitmapData class from an IMAGE. I would like to (within Actionscript) GENERATE some new BitmapData by capturing the Bitmap representing say, a TextArea component on the stage. In other words, sort of take a "screen capture" or "screenshot" of one of the components, and convert that into an image. Am I silly to even wonder if such a thing is feasible? Can an Air/Flex app "look at itself" in this way? Can it turn a datagrid or a canvas or a textinput into the corresponding image AS IF via screen capture? Even a hint in the right direction would be appreciated, Thanks In Advance.

    I'm currently building a HTML/JS AIR application. The application needs to display to the user a different 'window' - dependant on whether this is the first time they've launched the application or not. There seems to be plenty of tutorials online of how to move, resize, etc. the NativeWindow, but I simply want access to the NativeWindow's HTML content. For example, how would I add a new paragraph to that page? I've tried the following: newHtmlLoader.window.opener = window; var doc = newHtmlLoader.window.opener.document.documentElement; Using AIR's Introspector console, ....log(doc) returns [object HTMLHtmlElement]. Hmm, seems promising right? I then go on to try: var p = document.createElement('p'); var t = document.createTextNode('Insert Me'); p.appendChild(t); doc.appendChild(p); ...but nothing gets inserted. I've also tried the following replacements for doc: var doc = newHtmlLoader.window.opener.document.body; // .log(doc) -> [object HTMLBodyElement] var doc = newHtmlLoader.window.opener.document; // .log(doc) -> Error: HIERARCHY_REQUEST_ERR: DOM Exception 3 ...as well as the following with jQuery: $(doc).append('<p>Insert Me</p>'); // again, nothing So, anyone had any experience in accessing a NativeWindow's inner content programmatically?     I'm not sure if this is possible, is there a way to get the <mx:Form> to set its own height based on the position of an element within it? For example something like this: <mx:Form height="{submitBtn.y + submitBtn.height}"> <mx:FormItem>... </mx:FormItem> <mx:FormItem>... </mx:FormItem> <mx:FormItem>... </mx:FormItem> <mx:FormItem> <s:Button id="submitBtn" label="Submit" /> </mx:FormItem> </mx:Form> where the form height is dynamically set based on submitBtn's y position and its height. I tried using Alert.show to show these values and turned out submitBtn.y = 0 and submitBtn.height = 21. height sounds reasonable, but I know the submitBtn.y can't be 0 since it's below several other Is it possible to set the form height dynamically?

    If I want to know if an object has a particular property I can code this: if (SomeObject.hasOwnProperty('xyz')) { // some code } But some styles masquerade as properties at design time such as Button.color... How can I know what style properties are valid at runtime? ie: What is the equivalent of hasOwnProperty for getStyle/setStyle? In other words how can I know if an object HAS A particular style variable... When I write: MyButton.setStyle('qsfgaeWT','-33'); It won't accomplish anything, but it also doesn't error. How can I know programmatically that 'qsfgaeWT' is NOT a valid style of 'Button'??

I have this simple block of mxml that I'm trying to convert to actionscript, but I'm stuck half way though <s:Rect id="theRect" x="0" y="50" width="15%" height="15%"> <s:fill> <s:SolidColor color="black" alpha="0.9" /> </s:fill> </s:Rect> I can convert the Rect no problem to private var theRect:Rect = new Rect(); theRect.x = 0; theRect.y = 50; theRect.width = "15%"; theRect.height = "15%"; then I'm stuck on the fill. What's the most efficient way to add the SolidColor in as few lines of code as possible.

    I have 4 buttons, all of them have the same width. <s:Button id="btn1" width="{btnWidth}" /> <s:Button id="btn2" width="{btnWidth}" /> <s:Button id="btn3" width="{btnWidth}" /> <s:Button id="btn4" width="{btnWidth}" /> Is it possible to set their width with Style, something like this: s|Button{ width: btnWidth; } I tried it, but auto-complete isn't working, which leads me to think that there's something wrong with the syntax. Basically my goal is to not have the width property set specifically for all 4.
