  • ASP.NET area in IIS 7 on windows 2008

    - by Rodnower
Hello, I don't see ASP.NET "area". In Add Remove programs I see .net framework 3.5 and WSE installed. May be I need particulary install the ASP.NET, but I don't know where I do this. In Windows 7 I have this area (abowe IIS and Management areas). Thank you for ahead.

  • Best practices: Ajax and server side scripting with stored procedures

    - by Luka Milani
I need to rebuild an old huge website and probably to port everyting to ASP.NET and jQuery and I would like to ask for some suggestion and tips. Actually the website uses: Ajax (client site with prototype.js) ASP (vb script server side) SQL Server 2005 IIS 7 as web server This website uses hundred of stored procedures and the requests are made by an ajax call and only 1 ASP page that contain an huge select case Shortly an example: JAVASCRIPT + PROTOTYPE: var data = { action: 'NEWS', callback: 'doNews', param1: $('text_example').value, ......: ..........}; AjaxGet(data); // perform a call using another function + prototype SERVER SIDE ASP: <% ...... select case request("Action") case "NEWS" With cmmDB .ActiveConnection = Conn .CommandText = "sp_NEWS_TO_CALL_for_example" .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc Set par0DB = .CreateParameter("Param1", adVarchar, adParamInput,6) Set par1DB = .CreateParameter(".....", adInteger, adParamInput) ' ........ ' can be more parameters .Parameters.Append par0DB .Parameters.Append par1DB par0DB.Value = request("Param1") par1DB.Value = request(".....") set rs=cmmDB.execute RecodsetToJSON rs, jsa ' create JSON response using a sub End With .... %> So as you can see I have an ASP page that has a lot of CASE and this page answers to all the ajax request in the site. My question are: Instead of having many CASES is it possible to create dynamic vb code that parses the ajax request and creates dynamically the call to the desired SP (also implementing the parameters passed by JS)? What is the best approach to handle situations like this, by using the advantages of .Net + protoype or jQuery? How the big sites handle situation like this? Do they do it by creating 1 page for request? Thanks in advance for suggestion, direction and tips.

  • IIS 7.5 truncating POST body containing JSON data with ASP.NET MVC 3

    - by Guneet Sahai
I'm facing a problem which I hope is a configuration thing with IIS but is right now giving a lot of trouble. Basically I have a controller that accepts a JSON and does some processing. While it generally works fine, but every now and then when the system has some load I get an error. After some painful debugging, we figured the incoming JSON gets truncated which causes the deserialzer to fail. To narrow down the problem - we wrote a simple controller that accepts a JSON and tries to deserialize it. In case it fails it just logs it. This works fine but when I hit it using a load testing tool (JMeter) it throws the same error (truncation) for a few requests. The # of failures increased when I increase parallel connections. It starts showing with 150 concurrent requests. We are running IIS 7 on windows 2008 server with ASP.Net MVC 3 with more or less default configuration of IIS. More information available in my question below http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12662282/content-length-of-http-request-body-size

  • .NET: Interface Problem VB.net Getter Only Interface

    - by snmcdonald
Why does an interface override a class definition and violate class encapsulation? I have included two samples below, one in C# and one in VB.net? VB.net Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim testInterface As ITest = New TestMe Console.WriteLine(testInterface.Testable) ''// Prints False testInterface.Testable = True ''// Access to Private!!! Console.WriteLine(testInterface.Testable) ''// Prints True Dim testClass As TestMe = New TestMe Console.WriteLine(testClass.Testable) ''// Prints False ''//testClass.Testable = True ''// Compile Error Console.WriteLine(testClass.Testable) ''// Prints False End Sub End Module Public Class TestMe : Implements ITest Private m_testable As Boolean = False Public Property Testable As Boolean Implements ITest.Testable Get Return m_testable End Get Private Set(ByVal value As Boolean) m_testable = value End Set End Property End Class Interface ITest Property Testable As Boolean End Interface C# using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace InterfaceCSTest { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { ITest testInterface = new TestMe(); Console.WriteLine(testInterface.Testable); testInterface.Testable = true; Console.WriteLine(testInterface.Testable); TestMe testClass = new TestMe(); Console.WriteLine(testClass.Testable); //testClass.Testable = true; Console.WriteLine(testClass.Testable); } } class TestMe : ITest { private bool m_testable = false; public bool Testable { get { return m_testable; } private set { m_testable = value; } } } interface ITest { bool Testable { get; set; } } } More Specifically How do I implement a interface in VB.net that will allow for a private setter. For example in C# I can declare: class TestMe : ITest { private bool m_testable = false; public bool Testable { get { return m_testable; } private set //No Compile Error here! { m_testable = value; } } } interface ITest { bool Testable { get; } } However, if I declare an interface property as readonly in VB.net I cannot create a setter. If I create a VB.net interface as just a plain old property then interface declarations will violate my encapsulation. Public Class TestMe : Implements ITest Private m_testable As Boolean = False Public ReadOnly Property Testable As Boolean Implements ITest.Testable Get Return m_testable End Get Private Set(ByVal value As Boolean) ''//Compile Error m_testable = value End Set End Property End Class Interface ITest ReadOnly Property Testable As Boolean End Interface So my question is, how do I define a getter only Interface in VB.net with proper encapsulation? I figured the first example would have been the best method. However, it appears as if interface definitions overrule class definitions. So I tried to create a getter only (Readonly) property like in C# but it does not work for VB.net. Maybe this is just a limitation of the language?

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 - user defined database connection.

    - by J Harley
Hello, I am looking to port my very basic DBMS software from classic ASP to ASP.net - however the user would need to input the connection details in order to connect to their specific DBMS server. Is this at all possible with ASP.NET MVC (very similar to DSN-less connections in ASP). Cheers, Joel

  • Asp: Building a master page?

    - by Poku
Hey, Is it possible to build some kind of Master page with classic asp WITHOUT frames or iframes? Im thinking if there is a way to include content pages to the main page like in ASP.NET master pages. From what i have researched ASP classic does support include of ohter asp/html pages on a page, but the value put in to this include function can not be dynamic.

  • Parallelism in .NET – Part 15, Making Tasks Run: The TaskScheduler

    - by Reed
In my introduction to the Task class, I specifically made mention that the Task class does not directly provide it’s own execution.  In addition, I made a strong point that the Task class itself is not directly related to threads or multithreading.  Rather, the Task class is used to implement our decomposition of tasks.  Once we’ve implemented our tasks, we need to execute them.  In the Task Parallel Library, the execution of Tasks is handled via an instance of the TaskScheduler class. The TaskScheduler class is an abstract class which provides a single function: it schedules the tasks and executes them within an appropriate context.  This class is the class which actually runs individual Task instances.  The .NET Framework provides two (internal) implementations of the TaskScheduler class. Since a Task, based on our decomposition, should be a self-contained piece of code, parallel execution makes sense when executing tasks.  The default implementation of the TaskScheduler class, and the one most often used, is based on the ThreadPool.  This can be retrieved via the TaskScheduler.Default property, and is, by default, what is used when we just start a Task instance with Task.Start(). Normally, when a Task is started by the default TaskScheduler, the task will be treated as a single work item, and run on a ThreadPool thread.  This pools tasks, and provides Task instances all of the advantages of the ThreadPool, including thread pooling for reduced resource usage, and an upper cap on the number of work items.  In addition, .NET 4 brings us a much improved thread pool, providing work stealing and reduced locking within the thread pool queues.  By using the default TaskScheduler, our Tasks are run asynchronously on the ThreadPool. There is one notable exception to my above statements when using the default TaskScheduler.  If a Task is created with the TaskCreationOptions set to TaskCreationOptions.LongRunning, the default TaskScheduler will generate a new thread for that Task, at least in the current implementation.  This is useful for Tasks which will persist for most of the lifetime of your application, since it prevents your Task from starving the ThreadPool of one of it’s work threads. The Task Parallel Library provides one other implementation of the TaskScheduler class.  In addition to providing a way to schedule tasks on the ThreadPool, the framework allows you to create a TaskScheduler which works within a specified SynchronizationContext.  This scheduler can be retrieved within a thread that provides a valid SynchronizationContext by calling the TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext() method. This implementation of TaskScheduler is intended for use with user interface development.  Windows Forms and Windows Presentation Foundation both require any access to user interface controls to occur on the same thread that created the control.  For example, if you want to set the text within a Windows Forms TextBox, and you’re working on a background thread, that UI call must be marshaled back onto the UI thread.  The most common way this is handled depends on the framework being used.  In Windows Forms, Control.Invoke or Control.BeginInvoke is most often used.  In WPF, the equivelent calls are Dispatcher.Invoke or Dispatcher.BeginInvoke. As an example, say we’re working on a background thread, and we want to update a TextBlock in our user interface with a status label.  The code would typically look something like: // Within background thread work... string status = GetUpdatedStatus(); Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(DispatcherPriority.Normal, new Action( () => { statusLabel.Text = status; })); // Continue on in background method .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } This works fine, but forces your method to take a dependency on WPF or Windows Forms.  There is an alternative option, however.  Both Windows Forms and WPF, when initialized, setup a SynchronizationContext in their thread, which is available on the UI thread via the SynchronizationContext.Current property.  This context is used by classes such as BackgroundWorker to marshal calls back onto the UI thread in a framework-agnostic manner. The Task Parallel Library provides the same functionality via the TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext() method.  When setting up our Tasks, as long as we’re working on the UI thread, we can construct a TaskScheduler via: TaskScheduler uiScheduler = TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext(); We then can use this scheduler on any thread to marshal data back onto the UI thread.  For example, our code above can then be rewritten as: string status = GetUpdatedStatus(); (new Task(() => { statusLabel.Text = status; })) .Start(uiScheduler); // Continue on in background method This is nice since it allows us to write code that isn’t tied to Windows Forms or WPF, but is still fully functional with those technologies.  I’ll discuss even more uses for the SynchronizationContext based TaskScheduler when I demonstrate task continuations, but even without continuations, this is a very useful construct. In addition to the two implementations provided by the Task Parallel Library, it is possible to implement your own TaskScheduler.  The ParallelExtensionsExtras project within the Samples for Parallel Programming provides nine sample TaskScheduler implementations.  These include schedulers which restrict the maximum number of concurrent tasks, run tasks on a single threaded apartment thread, use a new thread per task, and more.

  • Visual Studio 2010 RC with .net 4 beta 2

    - by aip.cd.aish
Does anyone know if it is possible to use Visual Studio 2010 RC with the beta 2 version of the .NET 4 framework? The reason I need to use the beta 2 version and not the RC is that there isn't an Expression Blend that can support the .NET 4 RC. I uninstalled the .NET 4 framework that installed with Visual Studio 2010, then I reinstalled the .NET 4 version Beta 2. But now when I launch Visual Studio, I get an error message saying "The operation could not be completed" and it shuts down. How can I make this work? Thanks!

  • asp.net detailsview update method not getting new values

    - by Ali
    Hi all, I am binding a detailsview with objectdatasource which gets the select parameter from the querystring. The detailsview shows the desired record, but when I try to update it, my update method gets the old values for the record (and hence no update). here is my detailsview code: <asp:DetailsView ID="dvUsers" runat="server" Height="50px" Width="125px" AutoGenerateRows="False" DataSourceID="odsUserDetails" onitemupdating="dvUsers_ItemUpdating"> <Fields> <asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Username" HeaderText="Username" SortExpression="Username" ReadOnly="true" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="FirstName" HeaderText="First Name" SortExpression="FirstName" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="LastName" HeaderText="Last Name" SortExpression="LastName" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Email" runat="server" HeaderText="Email" SortExpression="Email" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="IsActive" HeaderText="Is Active" SortExpression="IsActive" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="IsOnline" HeaderText="Is Online" SortExpression="IsOnline" ReadOnly="true" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="LastLoginDate" HeaderText="Last Login" SortExpression="LastLoginDate" ReadOnly="true" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="CreateDate" HeaderText="Member Since" SortExpression="CreateDate" ReadOnly="true" /> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Membership Ends" SortExpression="ExpiryDate"> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("ExpiryDate") %>'></asp:TextBox> <cc1:CalendarExtender ID="TextBox1_CalendarExtender" runat="server" Enabled="True" TargetControlID="TextBox1"> </cc1:CalendarExtender> </EditItemTemplate> <InsertItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("ExpiryDate") %>'></asp:TextBox> </InsertItemTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("ExpiryDate") %>'></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Fields> and here is the objectdatasource code: <asp:ObjectDataSource ID="odsUserDetails" runat="server" SelectMethod="GetAllUserDetailsByUserId" TypeName="QMS_BLL.Membership" UpdateMethod="UpdateUserForClient"> <UpdateParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="User_ID" Type="Int32" /> <asp:Parameter Name="firstName" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="lastName" Type="String" /> <asp:SessionParameter Name="updatedByUser" SessionField="userId" DefaultValue="1" /> <asp:Parameter Name="expiryDate" Type="DateTime" /> <asp:Parameter Name="Email" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="isActive" Type="String" /> </UpdateParameters> <SelectParameters> <asp:QueryStringParameter DefaultValue="1" Name="User_ID" QueryStringField="User_ID" Type="Int32" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:ObjectDataSource> Is the OnItemUpdating method still required when you have your custom BLL method called on insertevent? (which is being executed fine in my case but updating with the old values) or am I missing something else? Also I tried to provide an OnItemUpdating method and in there I tried to capture the contents of the textboxes (the new values). I got an exception: "Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: index" when I tried to do: TextBox txtFirstName = (TextBox)dvUsers.Rows[1].Cells[1].Controls[0]; Any help will be most appreciated.

  • Control JSON Serialization format of a custom type in .NET

    - by mrjoltcola
I have a PhoneNumber class that stores a normalized string, and I've defined implicit operators for string <- Phone to simplify treatment of the PhoneNumber as a string. I've also overridden the ToString() method to always return the cleaned version of the number (no hyphens or parentheses or spaces). In any MVC.NET code where I explicitly display the number, I can explicitly call phone.Format(). The problem here is serializing an entity that has a PhoneNumber to JSON; JavaScriptSerializer serializes it as [object Object]. I want to serialize it as a string in (555)555-5555 format. I've looked at writing a custom JavaScriptConverter, but JavaScriptConverter.Serialize() method returns a dictionary of name-value pairs. I don't want PhoneNumber to be treated as an object with fields, I want to simply serialize it as a string.

  • Looking for a workaround for IE 6/7 "Unspecified Error" bug when accessing offsetParent; using ASP.N

    - by CodeChef
I'm using jQuery UI's draggable and droppable libraries in a simple ASP.NET proof of concept application. This page uses the ASP.NET AJAX UpdatePanel to do partial page updates. The page allows a user to drop an item into a trashcan div, which will invoke a postback that deletes a record from the database, then rebinds the list (and other controls) that the item was drug from. All of these elements (the draggable items and the trashcan div) are inside an ASP.NET UpdatePanel. Here is the dragging and dropping initialization script: function initDragging() { $(".person").draggable({helper:'clone'}); $("#trashcan").droppable({ accept: '.person', tolerance: 'pointer', hoverClass: 'trashcan-hover', activeClass: 'trashcan-active', drop: onTrashCanned }); } $(document).ready(function(){ initDragging(); var prm = Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance(); prm.add_endRequest(function() { initDragging(); }); }); function onTrashCanned(e,ui) { var id = $('input[id$=hidID]', ui.draggable).val(); if (id != undefined) { $('#hidTrashcanID').val(id); __doPostBack('btnTrashcan',''); } } When the page posts back, partially updating the UpdatePanel's content, I rebind the draggables and droppables. When I then grab a draggable with my cursor, I get an "htmlfile: Unspecified error." exception. I can resolve this problem in the jQuery library by replacing elem.offsetParent with calls to this function that I wrote: function IESafeOffsetParent(elem) { try { return elem.offsetParent; } catch(e) { return document.body; } } I also have to avoid calls to elem.getBoundingClientRect() as it throws the same error. For those interested, I only had to make these changes in the jQuery.fn.offset function in the Dimensions Plugin. My questions are: Although this works, are there better ways (cleaner; better performance; without having to modify the jQuery library) to solve this problem? If not, what's the best way to manage keeping my changes in sync when I update the jQuery libraries in the future? For, example can I extend the library somewhere other than just inline in the files that I download from the jQuery website. Update: @some It's not publicly accessible, but I will see if SO will let me post the relevant code into this answer. Just create an ASP.NET Web Application (name it DragAndDrop) and create these files. Don't forget to set Complex.aspx as your start page. You'll also need to download the jQuery UI drag and drop plug in as well as jQuery core Complex.aspx <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Complex.aspx.cs" Inherits="DragAndDrop.Complex" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head runat="server"> <title>Untitled Page</title> <script src="jquery-1.2.6.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="jquery-ui-personalized-1.5.3.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function initDragging() { $(".person").draggable({helper:'clone'}); After i click any button twice or after first page load the page gives error. Either I have to use each panel without any post back [no page refresh] how can i solve this? the html code is below. wordOrgButton enables word panel and after any operation fills that word panel. same for userOrgButton <asp:UpdatePanel ID="mainPanel" runat="server" Height="220px"> <ContentTemplate> <fieldset> <asp:Panel ID="buttonsPanel" runat="server"> <asp:Button ID="wordOrgButton" runat="server" Text="Words" onclick="wordOrgButton_Click" /> <asp:Button ID="userOrgButton" runat="server" Text="User" onclick="userOrgButton_Click" /> <asp:Button ID="exitButton" runat="server" Text="Exit" onclick="exitButton_Click" /> </asp:Panel> <asp:Panel ID="usersPanel" runat="server"> <asp:TextBox ID="whoisUserTextBox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <asp:Button ID="catchUserButton" runat="server" Text="Bring" onclick="catchUserButton_Click" /> <asp:Panel ID="userOrgPanel" runat="server" ></asp:Panel> </asp:Panel> <asp:Panel ID="wordsPanel" runat="server"></asp:Panel> <asp:Panel ID="informationPanel" runat="server"> <asp:Label ID="operationinfoLabel" runat="server"></asp:Label> </asp:Panel> </fieldset> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel>

  • .NET remoting manual configuration

    - by Quandary
Question: In .NET remoting, I configure the client like this from a config file RemotingConfiguration.Configure("AsyncRemoteAPIclient.exe.config", False) Dim obj As New RemoteAPI.ServiceClass() (with this AsyncRemoteAPIclient.exe.config) <system.runtime.remoting> <application> <client> <wellknown type="RemoteAPI.ServiceClass, ServiceClass" url="http://localhost:8080/ServiceClass.rem" /> </client> <channels> <channel ref="http" port="0" /> </channels> </application> But when I replace the config file with manual configuration with the below code, it stops working, and starts complaining "ServiceClass or dependency not found". Dim chan As New System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Http.HttpChannel(0) System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.ChannelServices.RegisterChannel(chan, False) ' Create an instance of the remote object Dim obj As RemoteAPI.ServiceClass obj = CType(Activator.GetObject(GetType(RemoteAPI.ServiceClass), "http://localhost:8080/ServiceClass.rem"), RemoteAPI.ServiceClass) What's wrong ?

  • .NET framework: new features

    - by Budda
Few weaks ago I've changed target .NET framework for my application to the 4th version. Recently my resharper told me that my variable "MetaDescription" hides property 'string System.Web.UI.Page.MetaDescription' After small investigation the peace of code that worked earlier: HtmlMeta MetaDescription = new HtmlMeta(); MetaDescription.Attributes.Add("name", "description"); MetaDescription.Attributes.Add("content", ((IFriendlySEO)Page).DescriptionString); Header.Controls.Add(MetaDescription); was replaced with much more readable: MetaDescription = ((IFriendlySEO)Page).DescriptionString; (same for MetaKeywords). Question: is there any useful source that can give a list of such new features? Thanks.

  • Click edit button twice in gridview asp.net c# issue

    - by Supriyo Banerjee
    I have a gridview created on a page where I want to provide an edit button for the user to click in. However the issue is the grid view row becomes editable only while clicking the edit button second time. Not sure what is going wrong here, any help would be appreciated. One additional point is my grid view is displayed on the page only on a click of a button and is not there on page_load event hence. Posting the code snippets: //MY Aspx code <Columns> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Slice" SortExpression="name"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblslice" Text='<%# Eval("slice") %>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblslice" Text='<%# Eval("slice") %>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Metric" SortExpression="Description"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblmetric" Text='<%# Eval("metric")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblmetric" Text='<%# Eval("metric")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Original" SortExpression="Type"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lbloriginal" Text='<%# Eval("Original")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lbloriginal" Text='<%# Eval("Original")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="WOW" SortExpression="Market"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblwow" Text='<%# Eval("WOW")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblwow" Text='<%# Eval("WOW")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Change" SortExpression="Market" > <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblChange" Text='<%# Eval("Change")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TxtCustomerID" Text='<%# Eval("Change") %> ' runat="server"></asp:TextBox> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:CommandField HeaderText="Edit" ShowEditButton="True" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> //My code behind: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { } public void populagridview1(string slice,string fromdate,string todate,string year) { SqlCommand cmd; SqlDataAdapter da; DataSet ds; cmd = new SqlCommand(); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.CommandText = "usp_geteventchanges"; cmd.Connection = conn; conn.Open(); SqlParameter param1 = new SqlParameter("@slice", slice); cmd.Parameters.Add(param1); SqlParameter param2 = new SqlParameter("@fromdate", fromdate); cmd.Parameters.Add(param2); SqlParameter param3 = new SqlParameter("@todate", todate); cmd.Parameters.Add(param3); SqlParameter param4 = new SqlParameter("@year", year); cmd.Parameters.Add(param4); da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); ds = new DataSet(); da.Fill(ds, "Table"); GridView1.DataSource = ds; GridView1.DataBind(); conn.Close(); } protected void ImpactCalc(object sender, EventArgs e) { populagridview1(ddl_slice.SelectedValue, dt_to_integer(Picker1.Text), dt_to_integer(Picker2.Text), Txt_Year.Text); } protected void GridView1_RowEditing(object sender, GridViewEditEventArgs e) { gvEditIndex = e.NewEditIndex; Gridview1.DataBind(); } My page layout This edit screen appears after clicking edit twice.. the grid view gets displayed on hitting the Calculate impact button.   • How can I format the text in a databound TextBox?

    - by Abe Miessler
    I have ListView that has the following EditItemTemplate: <EditItemTemplate> <tr style=""> <td> <asp:LinkButton ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" CommandName="Update" Text="Update" /> <asp:LinkButton ID="CancelButton" runat="server" CommandName="Cancel" Text="Cancel" /> </td> <td> <asp:TextBox ID="FundingSource1TextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("FundingSource1") %>' /> </td> <td> <asp:TextBox ID="CashTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Cash") %>' /> </td> <td> <asp:TextBox ID="InKindTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("InKind") %>' /> </td> <td> <asp:TextBox ID="StatusTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Status") %>' /> </td> <td> <asp:TextBox ID="ExpectedAwardDateTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("ExpectedAwardDate","{0:MM/dd/yyyy}) %>' onclientclick="datepicker()" /> </td> </tr> </EditItemTemplate> I would like to format the "ExpectedAwardDateTextBox" so it shows a short date time but haven't found a way to do this without going into the code behind. In the Item template I have the following line to format the date that appears in the lable: <asp:Label ID="ExpectedAwardDateLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# String.Format("{0:M/d/yyyy}",Eval("ExpectedAwardDate")) %>' /> And I would like to find a similar method to do with the insertItemTemplate.

  • Various asp controls in a ASP.NET page

    - by Filipe Costa
Hello. I am creating a products page, where the user selects an option in a radiobuttonlist for example, and then a control with the various options of that product appears in a placeholder or in a div when on of the radiobuttons is selected. At the moment this is the code: aspx: <form runat="server"> <asp:CheckBoxList ID="Lentes" runat="server" OnClick="EscolheLentes"> <asp:ListItem Value="LU"> Lentes Unifocais </asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem Value="LP"> Lentes Progressivas </asp:ListItem> </asp:CheckBoxList> <asp:PlaceHolder runat="server" ID="PHLentes"></asp:PlaceHolder> </form> aspx.vb: Protected Sub EscolheLentes() Dim ControlLente As Control If (Me.Lentes.Items.FindByValue("LU").Selected) Then ControlLente = LoadControl("LentesUnifocais.ascx") ElseIf (Me.Lentes.Items.FindByValue("LP").Selected) Then ControlLente = LoadControl("LentesProgressivas.ascx") End If Me.PHLentes.Controls.Add(ControlLente) End Sub Need to use some ajax to load the control right? Am i going in the right direction? Thanks.

  • Are there any web application frameworks usable with .NET 2.0?

    - by adhocgeek
Apologies if this has been asked many, many times before - I'm afraid I couldn't find any satisfactory answers. I'm stuck in an environment (a bank) where, although we have VS 2008 on the development machines, production machines are locked down to the .Net framework 2.0 and SQL Server 2005. Are there any modern application frameworks that I could employ? I've looked at things like Spring.NET, PureMVC and ASP.NET MVC (S#arp Arch?), but I don't really have the luxury of time to investigate in depth. I don't want to initiate a war over which framework might be best, I just want to know if there are any I can actually use.

  • Browser Specific Extensions of HttpClient

    - by imran_ku07
Introduction:                     REpresentational State Transfer (REST) causing/leaving a great impact on service/API development because it offers a way to access a service without requiring any specific library by embracing HTTP and its features. ASP.NET Web API makes it very easy to quickly build RESTful HTTP services. These HTTP services can be consumed by a variety of clients including browsers, devices, machines, etc. With .NET Framework 4.5, we can use HttpClient class to consume/send/receive RESTful HTTP services(for .NET Framework 4.0, HttpClient class is shipped as part of ASP.NET Web API). The HttpClient class provides a bunch of helper methods(for example, DeleteAsync, PostAsync, GetStringAsync, etc.) to consume a HTTP service very easily. ASP.NET Web API added some more extension methods(for example, PutAsJsonAsync, PutAsXmlAsync, etc) into HttpClient class to further simplify the usage. In addition, HttpClient is also an ideal choice for writing integration test for a RESTful HTTP service. Since a browser is a main client of any RESTful API, it is also important to test the HTTP service on a variety of browsers. RESTful service embraces HTTP headers and different browsers send different HTTP headers. So, I have created a package that will add overloads(with an additional Browser parameter) for almost all the helper methods of HttpClient class. In this article, I will show you how to use this package.           Description:                     Create/open your test project and install ImranB.SystemNetHttp.HttpClientExtensions NuGet package. Then, add this using statement on your class, using ImranB.SystemNetHttp;                     Then, you can start using any HttpClient helper method which include the additional Browser parameter. For example,  var client = new HttpClient(myserver); var task = client.GetAsync("http://domain/myapi", Browser.Chrome); task.Wait(); var response = task.Result; .                     Here is the definition  of Browser, public enum Browser { Firefox = 0, Chrome = 1, IE10 = 2, IE9 = 3, IE8 = 4, IE7 = 5, IE6 = 6, Safari = 7, Opera = 8, Maxthon = 9, }                     These extension methods will make it very easy to write browser specific integration test. It will also help HTTP service consumer to mimic the request sending behavior of a browser. This package source is available on github. So, you can grab the source and add some additional behavior on the top of these extensions.         Summary:                     Testing a REST API is an important aspect of service development and today, testing with a browser is crucial. In this article, I showed how to write integration test that will mimic the browser request sending behavior. I also showed an example. Hopefully you will enjoy this article too.

  • ${extension} empty after catch-all alias in Postfix

    - by Paul Wagener
I want a setup where an e-mailaddress like [email protected] redirects mail to the folder foo. I've already got dovecot configured and tested. It is called by postfix with this line in master.cf: dovecot unix - n n - - pipe flags=DRhu user=vmail:vmail argv=/usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -f ${sender} -d ${user}@${nexthop} -n -m ${extension} I expect ${extension} to expand to 'foo' but it is always empty. I've added recipient_delimiter = + to my main.cf. How can I get it to work? Update: I've got a catch-all alias that redirects @domain.com to [email protected]. It seems that the extension is empty because of this. So the question becomes: Can I have a catch-all so that [email protected] redirects to [email protected] without explicitly defining either the random or the ext part?

  • ASP.NET AJAX and my axe!

    - by Marlon
So, I'm seriously considering axing ASP.NET AJAX from my future projects as I honestly feel it's too bloated, and at times convoluted. I'm also starting to feel it is a dying library in the .NET framework as I hardly see any quality components from the open-source community. All the kick-ass components are usually equally bloated commercial components... It was cool at first, but now I tend to get annoyed with it more than anything else. I'm planning on switching over to the jQuery library as just about everything in ASP.NET AJAX is often easily achievable with jQuery, and, more often than not, more graceful of a solution that ASP.NET AJAX and it has a much stronger open-source community. Perhaps, it's just me, but do you feel the same way about ASP.NET AJAX? How was/is your experience working with ASP.NET AJAX?
