• Visual Studio Express 2012 debug mode doesn't work

- by user2350086
I have a project in Visual Studio that I have been working on for a while, and I have used the debugger extensively. Recently I changed some settings and I have lost the ability to stop the program and step through code. I can't figure out what I had changed that might have affected this. If I put a breakpoint in my code and try to have the program stop there, it doesn't. The break point shows up white with a red outline. If I hover the mouse over it, it says "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No executable code of the debugger's target code type is associated with this line. Possible causes include: conditional compilation, compiler optimizations, or the target architecture of this line is not supported by the current debugger code type." I know for a fact that the program executes the code where the breakpoint is because I put the breakpoint in the beginning of the InitializeComponent method. The program displays the window fine, but does not stop at the breakpoint. Yes, I am running in debug mode. It seems as though there is a disconnect between the compiled code and the source code displayed. Does anyone know what that would be, or know which compiler settings I should check to re-enable debugging? Here are the compiler options: /GS /analyze- /W3 /Zc:wchar_t /I"D:\dev\libcurl-7.19.3-win32-ssl-msvc\include" /Zi /Od /sdl /Fd"Debug\vc110.pdb" /fp:precise /D "WIN32" /D "_DEBUG" /D "_UNICODE" /D "UNICODE" /errorReport:prompt /WX- /Zc:forScope /Oy- /clr /FU"C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.5\mscorlib.dll" /FU"C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.5\System.Data.dll" /FU"C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.5\System.dll" /FU"C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.5\System.Drawing.dll" /FU"C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.5\System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization.dll" /FU"C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.5\System.Windows.Forms.dll" /FU"C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.5\System.Xml.dll" /MDd /Fa"Debug\" /EHa /nologo /Fo"Debug\" /Fp"Debug\Prog.pch" The linker options are: /OUT:"D:\dev\Prog\Debug\Prog.exe" /MANIFEST /NXCOMPAT /PDB:"D:\dev\Prog\Debug\Prog.pdb" /DYNAMICBASE "curllib.lib" "winmm.lib" "kernel32.lib" "user32.lib" "gdi32.lib" "winspool.lib" "comdlg32.lib" "advapi32.lib" "shell32.lib" "ole32.lib" "oleaut32.lib" "uuid.lib" "odbc32.lib" "odbccp32.lib" /FIXED:NO /DEBUG /MACHINE:X86 /ENTRY:"Main" /INCREMENTAL /PGD:"D:\dev\Prog\Debug\Prog.pgd" /SUBSYSTEM:WINDOWS /MANIFESTUAC:"level='asInvoker' uiAccess='false'" /ManifestFile:"Debug\Prog.exe.intermediate.manifest" /ERRORREPORT:PROMPT /NOLOGO /LIBPATH:"D:\dev\libcurl-7.19.3-win32-ssl-msvc\lib\Debug" /ASSEMBLYDEBUG /TLBID:1

• Can't override a global WPF style that is set by TargetType on a single specific control

- by Matt H.
I have a style applied to all my textboxes, defined in a resource dictionary.. \ The fontsize and fontstyle properties are bound to a special user settings class that implements iNotifyPropertyChanged, which allows changes to font size and fontfamily to immediately propogate throughout my application. However, in a UserControl I've created (Ironically, the screen that allows the user to customize their font settings), I want the font size and fontfamily to remain static. No matter what I try, my global font settings override what I set in my user control: <UserControl x:Class="ctlUserSettings" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:R2D2" Height="400" Width="600"> <Grid> <Grid.Resources> ... etc... <StackPanel Margin="139,122.943,41,0" Orientation="Horizontal" Height="33" VerticalAlignment="Top"> <TextBox Style="{x:Null}" FontSize="13" FontFamily="Tahoma" HorizontalAlignment="Left" MaxWidth="500" MinWidth="350" Name="txtReaderPath" Height="Auto" VerticalAlignment="Top" /> <TextBox Style="{x:tbxStyle}" Margin="15,0,0,0" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Name="txtPath" Width="43" Height="23" VerticalAlignment="Top">(some text) </StackPanel> I've tried setting Style to {x:Null}, setting custom font sizes inline, and setting a style in the resources of this control. None take precedence over the styles in my resource dictionary. As you can see, I show a sprinkling of all the things I've tried in the XAML sample above... What am I missing?

• Adding ComboBoxItem to a combobox inside a user control (XAML/WPF)

- by byte
I am currently learning to create custom controls in WPF. I successfully created a simple custom control using a Label and a Text Box. I was able to allow setting the Label text by DependencyProperty. Now I am creating a user control that has a ComboBox. I need to allow adding items to this ComboBox from outside the control. To achieve this, I tried exposing a DependencyProperty of type ItemsCollection and it will allows access to the ComboBox's Items property (the DP in my control sample is named 'CbItems'). But I get errors because Items property of Combobox is ReadOnly. Control XAML <UserControl x:Class="MyWpfApp.Controls.MyControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Height="Auto" Width="Auto"> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition /> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ComboBox Name="cmb" Grid.Column="1" Width="150"></ComboBox> </Grid> </UserControl> MainWindow XAML <Window x:Class="MyWpfApp.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:ctl="clr-namespace:MyWpfApp.Controls" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <ctl:MyControl> <ctl:MyControl.CbItems> <ComboBoxItem>Hello</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem>World</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem>Hi</ComboBoxItem> </ctl:LobCombox.CbItems> </ctl:LobCombox> </Grid> </Window> I would like to know what the correct way is to achieve this functionality. I believe the answer to this might also help with other controls like GridView etc Many Thanks

• How to bind DataTable to Chart series?

- by user175908
Hello, How to do bind data from DataTable to Chart series? I get null reference exception. I tried binding with square brackets and it did not worked either. So, how to do the binding? Thanks. P.S: I included DataGrid XAML and CS which works just fine. Converting data to List<KeyValuePair<string,int>> works good but it is kinda slow and is unnessesary trash in code. I use WPFToolkit (the latest version). XAML: <Window x:Class="BindingzTest.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="606" Width="988" xmlns:charting="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls.DataVisualization.Charting;assembly=System.Windows.Controls.DataVisualization.Toolkit"> <Grid Name="LayoutRoot"> <charting:Chart Title="Letters and Numbers" VerticalAlignment="Top" Height="400"> <charting:Chart.Series> <charting:ColumnSeries Name="myChartSeries" IndependentValueBinding="{Binding Letter}" DependentValueBinding="{Binding Number}" ItemsSource="{Binding}" /> </charting:Chart.Series> </charting:Chart> <DataGrid Name="myDataGrid" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="0,400,0,50" ItemsSource="{Binding}" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Letter" Binding="{Binding Letter}"/> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Number" Binding="{Binding Number}"/> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid> </Grid> CS: public partial class MainWindow : Window { public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); } DataTable GenerateMyTable() { var myTable = new DataTable("MyTable"); myTable.Columns.Add("Letter"); myTable.Columns.Add("Number"); myTable.Rows.Add("A", 500); myTable.Rows.Add("B", 400); myTable.Rows.Add("C", 500); myTable.Rows.Add("D", 600); myTable.Rows.Add("E", 300); myTable.Rows.Add("F", 200); return myTable; } private void GenerateButtonClicked(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { var myGeneratedTable = GenerateMyTable(); myDataGrid.DataContext = myGeneratedTable; myChartSeries.DataContext = myGeneratedTable; // Calling this throws "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception } }

• How to access a named element in a control that inherits from a templated control

- by Mrt
Hello this is similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2620165/how-to-access-a-named-element-of-a-derived-user-control-in-silverlight with the difference is inheriting from a templated control, not a user control. I have a templated control called MyBaseControl public class MyBaseControl : Control { public UIElement Header { get; set; } public MyBaseControl() { DefaultStyleKey = typeof(MyBaseControl); } public override void OnApplyTemplate() { base.OnApplyTemplate(); var headerControl = GetTemplateChild("HeaderControl") as ContentPresenter; if (headerControl != null) headerControl.Content = Header; } } I have another control called myControl which inherits from MyBaseControl Control <me:MyBaseControl x:Class="Problemo.MyControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" xmlns:me="clr-namespace:Problemo" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400"> <me:MyBaseControl.Header> <TextBlock Name="xxx" /> </me:MyBaseControl.Header> </me:MyBaseControl> public partial class MyControl : MyBaseControl { public string Text { get; set; } public MyControl(string text) { InitializeComponent(); Text = text; Loaded += MyControl_Loaded; } void MyControl_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { base.ApplyTemplate(); xxx.Text = Text; } } The issue is xxx is null. How do I access the xxx control in the code behind ?

• M-V-VM, isn't the Model leaking into the View?

- by BFree
The point of M-V-VM as we all know is about speraration of concerns. In patterns like MVVM, MVC or MVP, the main purpose is to decouple the View from the Data thereby building more flexible components. I'll demonstrate first a very common scenario found in many WPF apps, and then I'll make my point: Say we have some StockQuote application that streams a bunch of quotes and displays them on screen. Typically, you'd have this: StockQuote.cs : (Model) public class StockQuote { public string Symbol { get; set; } public double Price { get; set; } } StockQuoteViewModel.cs : (ViewModel) public class StockQuoteViewModel { private ObservableCollection<StockQuote> _quotes = new ObservableCollection<StockQuote>(); public ObservableCollection<StockQuote> Quotes { get { return _quotes; } } } StockQuoteView.xaml (View) <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Window.DataContext> <local:StockQuoteViewModel/> </Window.DataContext> <Window.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="listBoxDateTemplate"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Symbol}"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Price}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <ListBox ItemTemplate="{StaticResource listBoxDateTemplate}" ItemsSource="{Binding Quotes}"/> </Grid> </Window> And then you'd have some kind of service that would feed the ObservableCollection with new StockQuotes. My question is this: In this type of scenario, the StockQuote is considered the Model, and we're exposing that to the View through the ViewModel's ObservableCollection. Which basically means, our View has knowledge of the Model. Doesn't that violate the whole paradigm of M-V-VM? Or am I missing something here....?

• Webserver parsing chrome input from post request

- by ravenspoint
I am developing a small embedded web server. I want to add parsing of post requests, but I am having a problem with input password fields from Chrome. Firefox and IE work perfectly. The HTML:
Password:
From Firefox I get POST /stop.webem HTTP/1.1 Host: 127.0.0.1:8080 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100315 Firefox/3.5.9 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive Referer: http://127.0.0.1:8080/ Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded Content-Length: 13 yourname=test However from Chrome, about 90% of the time, the yourname=test is missing POST /start.webem HTTP/1.1 Host: 127.0.0.1:8080 Connection: keep-alive User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.1.249.1045 Safari/532.5 Referer: http://127.0.0.1:8080/ Content-Length: 13 Cache-Control: max-age=0 Origin: http://127.0.0.1:8080 Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded Accept: application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.8 Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3 Though, occasionally it does work!!! • .NET: Avoidance of custom exceptions by utilising existing types, but which?

- by Mr. Disappointment
Consider the following code (ASP.NET/C#): private void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!SetupHelper.SetUp()) { throw new ShitHitFanException(); } } I've never been too hesitant to simply roll my own exception type, basically because I have found (bad practice, or not) that mostly a reasonable descriptive type name gives us enough as developers to go by in order to know what happened and why something might have happened. Sometimes the existing .NET exception types even accommodate these needs - regardless of the message. In this particular scenario, for demonstration purposes only, the application should die a horrible, disgraceful death should SetUp not complete properly (as dictated by its return value), but I can't find an already existing exception type in .NET which would seem to suffice; though, I'm sure one will be there and I simply don't know about it. Brad Abrams posted this article that lists some of the available exception types. I say some because the article is from 2005, and, although I try to keep up to date, it's a more than plausible assumption that more have been added to future framework versions that I am still unaware of. Of course, Visual Studio gives you a nicely formatted, scrollable list of exceptions via Intellisense - but even on analysing those, I find none which would seem to suffice for this situation... ApplicationException: ...when a non-fatal application error occurs The name seems reasonable, but the error is very definitely fatal - the app is dead. ExecutionEngineException: ...when there is an internal error in the execution engine of the CLR Again, sounds reasonable, superficially; but this has a very definite purpose and to help me out here certainly isn't it. HttpApplicationException: ...when there is an error processing an HTTP request Well, we're running an ASP.NET application! But we're also just pulling at straws here. InvalidOperationException: ...when a call is invalid for the current state of an instance This isn't right but I'm adding it to the list of 'possible should you put a gun to my head, yes'. OperationCanceledException: ...upon cancellation of an operation the thread was executing Maybe I wouldn't feel so bad using this one, but I'd still be hijacking the damn thing with little right. You might even ask why on earth I would want to raise an exception here but the idea is to find out that if I were to do so then do you know of an appropriate exception for such a scenario? And basically, to what extent can we piggy-back on .NET while keeping in line with rationality?

• Where can I find information on the Get, Set and Address methods for multidimensional System.Array i

- by Rob Smallshire
System.Array serves as the base class for all arrays in the Common Language Runtime (CLR). According to this article, For each concrete array type, [the] runtime adds three special methods: Get/Set/Address. and indeed if I disassemble this C# code, int[,] x = new int[1024,1024]; x[0,0] = 1; x[1,1] = 2; x[2,2] = 3; Console.WriteLine(x[0,0]); Console.WriteLine(x[1,1]); Console.WriteLine(x[2,2]); into CIL I get, IL_0000: ldc.i4 0x400 IL_0005: ldc.i4 0x400 IL_000a: newobj instance void int32[0...,0...]::.ctor(int32, int32) IL_000f: stloc.0 IL_0010: ldloc.0 IL_0011: ldc.i4.0 IL_0012: ldc.i4.0 IL_0013: ldc.i4.1 IL_0014: call instance void int32[0...,0...]::Set(int32, int32, int32) IL_0019: ldloc.0 IL_001a: ldc.i4.1 IL_001b: ldc.i4.1 IL_001c: ldc.i4.2 IL_001d: call instance void int32[0...,0...]::Set(int32, int32, int32) IL_0022: ldloc.0 IL_0023: ldc.i4.2 IL_0024: ldc.i4.2 IL_0025: ldc.i4.3 IL_0026: call instance void int32[0...,0...]::Set(int32, int32, int32) IL_002b: ldloc.0 IL_002c: ldc.i4.0 IL_002d: ldc.i4.0 IL_002e: call instance int32 int32[0...,0...]::Get(int32, int32) IL_0033: call void [mscorlib]System.Console::WriteLine(int32) IL_0038: ldloc.0 IL_0039: ldc.i4.1 IL_003a: ldc.i4.1 IL_003b: call instance int32 int32[0...,0...]::Get(int32, int32) IL_0040: call void [mscorlib]System.Console::WriteLine(int32) IL_0045: ldloc.0 IL_0046: ldc.i4.2 IL_0047: ldc.i4.2 IL_0048: call instance int32 int32[0...,0...]::Get(int32, int32) IL_004d: call void [mscorlib]System.Console::WriteLine(int32) where the calls to the aforementioned Get and Set methods can be clearly seen. It seems the arity of these methods is related to the dimensionality of the array, which is presumably why they are created by the runtime and are not pre-declared. I couldn't locate any information about these methods on MSDN and their simple names makes them resistant to Googling. I'm writing a compiler for a language which supports multidimensional arrays, so I'd like to find some official documentation about these methods, under what conditions I can expect them to exist and what I can expect their signatures to be. In particular, I'd like to know whether its possible to get a MethodInfo object for Get or Set for use with Reflection.Emit without having to create an instance of the array with correct type and dimensionality on which to reflect, as is done in the linked example.

• A continued saga of C# interoprability with unmanaged C++

- by Gilad
After a day of banging my head against the wall both literally and metaphorically, I plead for help: I have an unmanaged C++ project, which is compiled as a DLL. Let's call it CPP Project. It currently works in an unmanaged environment. In addition, I have created a WPF project, that shall be called WPF Project. This project is a simple and currently almost empty project. It contains a single window and I want it to use code from Project 1. For that, I have created a CLR C++ project, which shall be called Interop Project and is also compiled as a DLL. For simplicity I will attach some basic testing code I have boiled down to the basics. CPP Project has the following two testing files: tester.h #pragma once extern "C" class __declspec(dllexport) NativeTester { public: void NativeTest(); }; tester.cpp #include "tester.h" void NativeTester::NativeTest() { int i = 0; } Interop Project has the following file: InteropLib.h #pragma once #include <tester.h> using namespace System; namespace InteropLib { public ref class InteropProject { public: static void Test() { NativeTester nativeTester; nativeTester.NativeTest(); } }; } Lastly, WPF Project has a single window refrencing Interop Project: MainWindow.xaml.cs using System; using System.Windows; using InteropLib; namespace AppGUI { public partial class MainWindow : Window { public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); InteropProject.Test(); } } } And the XAML itself has an empty window (default created). Once I am trying to run the WPF project, I get the following error: System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException: 'The invocation of the constructor on type 'AppGUI.MainWindow' that matches the specified binding constraints threw an exception.' Line number '3' and line position '9'. --- System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'InteropLib.dll' or one of its dependencies. The specified module could not be found. at AppGUI.MainWindow..ctor() Interestingly enough, if I do not export the class from CPP Project, I do not get this error. Say, if i change tester.h to: #pragma once class NativeTester { public: void NativeTest() { int i = 0; } }; However, in this case I cannot use my more complex classes. If I move my implementation to a cpp file like before, I get unresolved linkage errors due to my not exporting my code. The C++ code I want to actually use is large and has many classes and is object oriented, so I can't just move all my implementation to the h files. Please help me understand this horrific error I've been trying resolve without success. Thanks.

• ASP.Net 4.0 - Response required in SiteMap building?

- by Nick Craver
I'm running into an issue upgrading a project to .Net 4.0...and having trouble finding any reason for the issue (or at least, the change causing it). Given the freshness of 4.0, not a lot of blogs out there for issues yet, so I'm hoping someone here has an idea. Preface: this is a Web Forms application, coming from 3.5 SP1 to 4.0. In the Application_Start event we're iterating through the SiteMap and constructing routes based off data there (prettifying URLs mostly with some utility added), that part isn't failing though...or at least isn't not getting that far. It seems that calling the SiteMap.RootNode (inside application_start) causes 4.0 to eat it, since the XmlSiteMapProvider.GetNodeFromXmlNode method has been changed, looking in reflector you can see it's hitting HttpResponse.ApplyAppPathModifier here: str2 = HttpContext.Current.Response.ApplyAppPathModifier(str2); HttpResponse wasn't used at all in this method in the 2.0 CLR, so what we had worked fine, in 4.0 though, that method is called as a result of this stack: [HttpException (0x80004005): Response is not available in this context.] System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.GetNodeFromXmlNode(XmlNode xmlNode, Queue queue) System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.ConvertFromXmlNode(Queue queue) System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.BuildSiteMap() System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.get_RootNode() System.Web.SiteMap.get_RootNode() Since Response isn't available here in 4.0, we get an error. To reproduce this, you can narrow the test case down to this in global: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { var s = SiteMap.RootNode; //Kaboom! //or just var r = Context.Response; //or var r = HttpContext.Current.Response; //all result in the same "not available" error } Question: Am I missing something obvious here? Or, is there another event added in 4.0 that's recommended for anything related to SiteMap on startup? For anyone curious/willing to help, I've created a very minimal project (a default VS 2010 ASP.Net 4.0 site, all the bells & whistles removed and only a blank sitemap and the Application_Start code added). It's a small 10kb zip available here: http://www.ncraver.com/Test/SiteMapTest.zip Update: Not a great solution, but the current work-around is to do the work in Application_BeginRequest, like this: private static bool routesRegistered = false; protected void Application_BeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!routesRegistered) { Application.Lock(); if (!routesRegistered) RouteManager.RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); routesRegistered = true; Application.UnLock(); } } I don't like this particularly, feels like an abuse of the event to bypass the issue. Does anyone have at least a better work-around, since the .Net 4 behavior with SiteMap is not likely to change?

• Bogus WPF / XAML errors in Visual Studio 2010

There are bogus errors hanging around, but at runtime everything works. Right now, I'm getting Cannot locate resource 'img/icons/silk/arrow_refresh.png'. I've got a simple UserControl called ImageButton (doesn't everyone?): <UserControl x:Class="WinDispatchClientWpf.src.controls.ImageButton" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" mc:Ignorable="d"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
<TextBlock Name="btnText" /> </StackPanel> </UserControl> Which does what you'd expect: [ContentProperty("Text")] public partial class ImageButton : UserControl { public String Image { set { btnImage.Source = GuiUtil.CreateBitmapImage(value); } } public String Text { set { btnText.Text = value; } } public double Gap { set { btnImage.Margin = new Thickness(0, 0, value, 0); } } public bool ToolBarStyle { set { if (value) { btnButton.Style = (Style)FindResource(ToolBar.ButtonStyleKey); } } } public bool IsCancel { set { btnButton.IsCancel = value; } } public bool IsDefault { set { btnButton.IsDefault = value; } } public event RoutedEventHandler Click; public ImageButton() { InitializeComponent(); } private void btnButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { if (Click != null) { Click(sender, e); } } } Where CreateBitmapImage is the following: public static BitmapImage CreateBitmapImage(string imagePath) { BitmapImage icon = new BitmapImage(); icon.BeginInit(); icon.UriSource = new Uri(String.Format("pack://application:,,,/{0}", imagePath)); icon.EndInit(); return icon; } I can't see the design view of any xaml file that uses an ImageButton like such: <Window foo="bar" xmlns:wpfControl="clr-namespace:MyProj.src.controls"> <Grid> <wpfControl:ImageButton ToolBarStyle="True" Gap="3" Click="btnRefresh_Click" Text="Refresh" Image="img/icons/silk/arrow_refresh.png" /> </Grid> </Window> Why is VS complaining?

• how to pass data when using MenuItem.ItemContainerStyle

- by black sensei
Hello Experts! i've been trying to have a dynamic ContextMenu to show the name property of each of the object in its collection of objects. here is concrete example ,i'm connecting to a webservice to pull contacts and groups of a particular account.so i have those as global variables.i display the contacts in a listbox and i want to show on right click of a contact in the listbox the list of groups that it can be added to. to be able to add a contact to a group i need the id of the contact(which i have) and the id of the group which i'm looking for here is my code. xmlns:serviceAdmin="clr-namespace:MyWpfApp.serviceAdmin" ...... <ListBox.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Header="Refresh" Click="RefreshContact_Click"></MenuItem> <MenuItem Header="Add New Contact" Click="ContactNew_Click"></MenuItem> <MenuItem Header="Add to Group" Name="groupMenus"> // <MenuItem.ItemContainerStyle> </MenuItem.ItemContainerStyle> </MenuItem> <MenuItem Header="Delete Selected" Click="ContactDelete_Click"></MenuItem> </ContextMenu> </ListBox.ContextMenu> ...... and on xaml.cs //this code is in the method that loads the groups loadedgroup = service.getGroups(session.key, null); groupListBox.ItemsSource = loadedgroup; groupMenus.ItemsSource = loadedgroup.ToList(); this code is showing the name of the groups alright but i need the id of the group clicked on. If you've noticed i commented a portion of the xaml code. with that i could bind(with ease) the id to the tag.But it won't work and the MenuItem.ItemContainerStyle is the one working but then i'm lost: Question 1 : how do i create a handler method for a click event of a submenu that has the names of the groups? Question 2 : how do i get the clicked group id to work with? thanks for reading and kindly help me in this

• Constructor or Explicit cast

- by Felan
In working with Linq to Sql I create a seperate class to ferry data to a web page. To simplify creating these ferry objects I either use a specialized constructor or an explicit conversion operator. I have two questions. First which approach is better from a readibility perspective? Second while the clr code that is generated appeared to be the same to me, are there situations where one would be treated different than the other by the compiler (in lambda's or such). Example code (DatabaseFoo uses specialized constructor and BusinessFoo uses explicit operator): public class DatabaseFoo { private static int idCounter; // just to help with generating data public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public DatabaseFoo() { Id = idCounter++; Name = string.Format("Test{0}", Id); } public DatabaseFoo(BusinessFoo foo) { this.Id = foo.Id; this.Name = foo.Name; } } public class BusinessFoo { public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public static explicit operator BusinessFoo(DatabaseFoo foo) { return FromDatabaseFoo(foo); } public static BusinessFoo FromDatabaseFoo(DatabaseFoo foo) { return new BusinessFoo {Id = foo.Id, Name = foo.Name}; } } public class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine("Creating the initial list of DatabaseFoo"); IEnumerable<DatabaseFoo> dafoos = new List<DatabaseFoo>() { new DatabaseFoo(), new DatabaseFoo(), new DatabaseFoo(), new DatabaseFoo(), new DatabaseFoo(), new DatabaseFoo()}; foreach(DatabaseFoo dafoo in dafoos) Console.WriteLine(string.Format("{0}\t{1}", dafoo.Id, dafoo.Name)); Console.WriteLine("Casting the list of DatabaseFoo to a list of BusinessFoo"); IEnumerable<BusinessFoo> bufoos = from x in dafoos select (BusinessFoo) x; foreach (BusinessFoo bufoo in bufoos) Console.WriteLine(string.Format("{0}\t{1}", bufoo.Id, bufoo.Name)); Console.WriteLine("Creating a new list of DatabaseFoo by calling the constructor taking BusinessFoo"); IEnumerable<DatabaseFoo> fufoos = from x in bufoos select new DatabaseFoo(x); foreach(DatabaseFoo fufoo in fufoos) Console.WriteLine(string.Format("{0}\t{1}", fufoo.Id, fufoo.Name)); } }

• How to access a named element of a derived user control in silverlight ?

- by Mrt
Hello, I have a custom base user control in silverlight. <UserControl x:Class="Problemo.MyBaseControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <Border Name="HeaderControl" Background="Red" /> </Grid> </UserControl> With the following code behind public partial class MyBaseControl : UserControl { public UIElement Header { get; set; } public MyBaseControl() { InitializeComponent(); Loaded += MyBaseControl_Loaded; } void MyBaseControl_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { HeaderControl.Child = Header; } } I have a derived control. <me:MyBaseControl x:Class="Problemo.MyControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" xmlns:me="clr-namespace:Problemo" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400"> <me:MyBaseControl.Header> <TextBlock Name="header" Text="{Binding Text}" /> </me:MyBaseControl.Header> </me:MyBaseControl> With the following code behind. public partial class MyControl : MyBaseControl { public string Text { get; set; } public MyControl(string text) { InitializeComponent(); Text = text; } } I'm trying to set the text value of the header textblock in the derived control. It would be nice to be able to set both ways, i.e. with databinding or in the derived control code behind, but neither work. With the data binding, it doesn't work. If I try in the code behind I get a null reference to 'header'. This is silverlight 4 (not sure if that makes a difference) Any suggestions on how to do with with both databinding and in code ? Cheers

• Multi-Threading Question Concerning WPF

- by Andrew
Hello, I'm a newbie to threading, and I don't really know how to code a particular task. I would like to handle a mouse click event on a window that will kick off a while loop in a seperate thread. This thread, which is distinct from the UI thread, should call a function in the while loop which updates a label on the window being serviced by the UI thread. The while loop should stop running when the left mouse button is no longer being pressed. All the loop does is increment a counter, and then repeatedly call the function which displays the updated value in the window. The code for the window and all of the threading is given below (I keep getting some error about STA threading, but don't know where to put the attribute). Also, I'm hoping to use this solution, if it ever works, in another project that makes asynchronous calls elsewhere to a service via wcf, so I was hoping not to make any application-wide special configurations, since I'm really new to multi-threading and am quite worried about breaking other code in a larger program... Here's what I have: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication2.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication2" Name="MyMainWindow" Title="MainWindow" Width="200" Height="150" PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown="MyMainWindow_PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown"> </Window> And here's the code-behind: using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Input; using System.Threading; namespace WpfApplication2 { ///
/// Interaction logic for MainWindow.xaml ///
public partial class MainWindow : Window { private int counter = 0; public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); } private delegate void EmptyDelegate(); private void MyMainWindow_PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { Thread counterThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(MyThread)); counterThread.Start(); } private void MyThread() { while (Mouse.LeftButton == MouseButtonState.Pressed) { counter++; Dispatcher.Invoke(new EmptyDelegate(UpdateLabelContents), null); } } private void UpdateLabelContents() { CounterLbl.Content = counter.ToString(); } } } Anyways, multi-threading is really new to me, and I don't have any experience implementing it, so any thoughts or suggestions are welcome! Thanks, Andrew

• Exception showing a erroneous web page in a WPF frame

- by H4mm3rHead
I have a small application where i need to navigate to an url, I use this method to get the Frame: public override System.Windows.UIElement GetPage(System.Windows.UIElement container) { XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument(); doc.Load(Location); string webSiteUrl = doc.SelectSingleNode("website").InnerText; Frame newFrame = new Frame(); if (!webSiteUrl.StartsWith("http://")) { webSiteUrl = "http://" + webSiteUrl; } newFrame.Source = new Uri(webSiteUrl); return newFrame; } My problem is now that the page im trying to show generates a error (or so i think), when i load the page in a browser it never fully loads, keeps saying "loading1 element" in the load bar and the green progress line (IE 8) keeps showing. • How can i bind parent's property to its child's property?

- by walkor
I have a GroupBox, which is defined like this <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:Groupbox" > </ResourceDictionary> And i'm using this control like this <Controls:GroupBox x:Name="GroupBox"> <Controls:GroupBox.HeaderTemplate> <DataTemplate> <CheckBox "Header" x:Name="cbHeader"/> </DataTemplate> </Controls:GroupBox.HeaderTemplate> <Controls:GroupBox> So, well, my questions - how can i bind property IsEnabled of GroupBox to the Checkbox property IsChecked? • WPF - Two way binding use a user control...binding to object, not an element!

- by Scott
I created an object with a simple property with a default value. I then created a user control that has a text box in it. I set the datacontext of the user control to the object. The text box correctly shows the properties default value but I can't seem to update the property value when the user changes the text box value. I created a simple project to illustrate my code. Thanks for the help!! public partial class UserControl1 : UserControl { public UserControl1() { InitializeComponent(); } private string _titleValue; public string TitleValue { get { return _titleValue; } set { _titleValue = value; textBox1.Text = _titleValue; } } public static readonly DependencyProperty TitleValueProperty = DependencyProperty.Register( "TitleValue", typeof(string), typeof(UserControl1), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(new PropertyChangedCallback(titleUpdated)) ); //Don't think I should need to do this!!! private static void titleUpdated(DependencyObject d, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e) { ((UserControl1)d).TitleValue = (string)e.NewValue; } } <UserControl x:Class="WpfApplication1.UserControl1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="300"> <Grid> <TextBox Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="94,97,0,0" Name="textBox1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="120" Text="{Binding Path=TitleValue, Mode=TwoWay}"/> </Grid> </UserControl> public partial class MainWindow : Window { public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); var dummy = new DummyObject("This is my title."); userControl11.DataContext = dummy; } private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("The value is: " + ((DummyObject)userControl11.DataContext).Title); } } <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525" xmlns:my="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1"> <Grid> <my:UserControl1 HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="95,44,0,0" x:Name="userControl11" VerticalAlignment="Top" Height="191" Width="293" TitleValue="{Binding Path=Title, Mode=TwoWay}"/> </Grid> </Window>

• WPF data templates

- by imekon
I'm getting started with WPF and trying to get my head around connecting data to the UI. I've managed to connect to a class without any issues, but what I really want to do is connect to a property of the main window. Here's the XAML: <Window x:Class="test3.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:custom="clr-namespace:test3" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Window.Resources> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Source={x:Static Application.Current}, Path=Platforms}" x:Key="platforms"/> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type custom:Platform}"> <StackPanel> <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Path=Selected}"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=Name}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource platforms}}"/> </Grid> Here's the code for the main window: public partial class MainWindow : Window { ObservableCollection<Platform> m_platforms; public MainWindow() { m_platforms = new ObservableCollection<Platform>(); m_platforms.Add(new Platform("PC")); InitializeComponent(); } public ObservableCollection<Platform> Platforms { get { return m_platforms; } set { m_platforms = value; } } } Here's the Platform class: public class Platform { private string m_name; private bool m_selected; public Platform(string name) { m_name = name; m_selected = false; } public string Name { get { return m_name; } set { m_name = value; } } public bool Selected { get { return m_selected; } set { m_selected = value; } } } This all compiles and runs fine but the list box displays with nothing in it. If I put a breakpoint on the get method of Platforms, it doesn't get called. I don't understand as Platforms is what the XAML should be connecting to!

• How to define 'Attached property' as 'SelectedValuePath' in ComboBox?

- by SpudCZ
Hi, I have a problem with binding in ComboBox. I'd like to bind ComboBox items to ListView columns and as a selected value return value of attached property defined on the selected column. In example bellow you can see working sample that displays width of selected column. If you try to change SelectedValuePath in ComboBox into (loc:SampleBehavior.SampleValue) you get binding error: BindingExpression path error: '(u:SearchableListView.SearchMemberPath)' property not found on 'object' ''GridViewColumn' <Window x:Class="Problem_Sample1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:loc="clr-namespace:Problem_Sample1" WindowStartupLocation="CenterScreen" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <DockPanel> <ComboBox DockPanel.Dock="Top" x:Name="combobox" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=View.Columns, ElementName=listview}" DisplayMemberPath="Header" SelectedValuePath="Width"> </ComboBox> <StatusBar DockPanel.Dock="Bottom"> <TextBlock> <TextBlock Text="Selected column (value): " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=SelectedValue, ElementName=combobox}" /> </TextBlock> </StatusBar> <ListView x:Name="listview"> <ListView.View> <GridView> <GridViewColumn Header="Name" Width="101" loc:SampleBehavior.SampleValue="201" /> <GridViewColumn Header="Surname" Width="102" loc:SampleBehavior.SampleValue="202" /> </GridView> </ListView.View> </ListView> </DockPanel> </Window> SampleBehavior.cs using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; namespace Problem_Sample1 { public static class SampleBehavior { public static readonly DependencyProperty SampleValueProperty = DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached( "SampleValue", typeof (int), typeof (SampleBehavior)); [AttachedPropertyBrowsableForType(typeof(GridViewColumn))] public static int GetSampleValue(GridViewColumn column) { return (int)column.GetValue(SampleValueProperty); } [AttachedPropertyBrowsableForType(typeof(GridViewColumn))] public static void SetSampleValue(GridViewColumn column, int value) { column.SetValue(SampleValueProperty, value); } } } Thanks for any help or suggestion.

• TimeOuts with HttpWebRequest when running Selenium concurrently in .NET

- by domsom
I have a download worker that uses ThreadPool-threads to download files. After enhancing these to apply some Selenium tests to the downloaded files, I am constantly experiencing TimeOut-exceptions with the file downloaders and delays running the Selenium tests. More precisely: When the program starts, the download threads start downloading and a couple of pages are seamlessly processed via Selenium Shortly after, the first download threads start throwing TimeOut exceptions from HttpWebRequest. At the same time, commands stop flowing to Selenium (as observed in the SeleniumRC log), but the thread running Selenium is not getting any exception This situation holds as long as there are entries in the download list: new download threads are being started and terminate after receiving TimeOuts (without trying to lock Selenium) As soon as no more download threads are being started, Selenium starts receiving commands again and the threads waiting for the lock are processed sequentially as designed Now here's the download code: HttpWebRequest request = null; WebResponse response = null; Stream stream = null; StreamReader sr = null; try { request = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create(uri); request.ServicePoint.ConnectionLimit = MAX_CONNECTIONS_PER_HOST; response = request.GetResponse(); stream = response.GetResponseStream(); // Read the stream... } finally { if (request != null) request.Abort(); if (response != null) response.Close(); if (stream != null) { stream.Close(); stream.Dispose(); } if (sr != null) { sr.Close(); sr.Dispose(); } } And this is how Selenium is used afterwards in the same thread: lock(SeleniumLock) { selenium.Open(url); // Run some Selenium commands, but no selenium.stop() } Where selenium is a static variable that is initialized in the static constructor of the class (via selenium.start()). I assume I am running into the CLR connection limit, so I added these lines during initalization: ThreadPool.GetMaxThreads (out maxWorkerThreads, out maxCompletionPortThreads); HttpUtility.MAX_CONNECTIONS_PER_HOST = maxWorkerThreads; System.Net.ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = maxWorkerThreads + 1; The + 1 is for the connection to the SeleniumRC, due to my guess that the Selenium client code also uses HttpWebRequest. It seems like I'm still running into some kind of deadlock - although the threads waiting for the Selenium lock do not hold any resources. Any ideas on how to get this working?

• C++ snippet support in visual studio?

- by Jeremy Bell
I'm writing code in native C++ (not C++/CLR). I know that there is no built-in support for C++ with regards to the snippet manager and snipper picker interfaces, however I found a utility called "snippy" which supposedly can generate C++ snippets. Here is a c++ snippet that the program generated: <CodeSnippets xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/2005/CodeSnippet"> <CodeSnippet Format="1.0.0">

MySnippet
<Shortcut>MySnippet</Shortcut>
Just a test snippet

<SnippetTypes> <SnippetType>Expansion</SnippetType> </SnippetTypes>
<Snippet> <Declarations> <Literal Editable="true">
<ToolTip>just a placeholder</ToolTip> <Default> </Default> <Function> </Function> </Literal> </Declarations>
cout << "$literal1$" << std::endl;
</Snippet> </CodeSnippet> </CodeSnippets> If there is support in visual C++, even in a limited capacity, for C++ snippets, how do I add them to my environment, and what are the limitations? All I need is support for basic expansion snippets that I can invoke by typing a shortcut and hitting tab, and which supports basic literals that I can tab through (basically, if it supports the above snippet, I'm good). If this can't be done, are there any free add-ons or extensions to visual studio that support snippets for C++? I'm using both visual studio 2010 and 2008, but I mostly write code in 2010 right now.

• .NET Extension Objects with XSLT -- how to iterate over a collection?

- by Pandincus
Help me, Stackoverflow! I have a simple .NET 3.5 console app that reads some data and sends emails. I'm representing the email format in an XSLT stylesheet so that we can easily change the wording of the email without needing to recompile the app. We're using Extension Objects to pass data to the XSLT when we apply the transformation: <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:msxsl="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xslt" exclude-result-prefixes="msxsl" xmlns:EmailNotification="ext:EmailNotification"> -- this way, we can have statements like:
Dear <xsl:value-of select="EmailNotification:get_FullName()" />:
The above works fine. I pass the object via code like this (some irrelevant code omitted for brevity): // purely an example structure public struct EmailNotification { public string FullName { get; set; } } // Somewhere in some method ... var notification = new Notification("John Smith"); // ... XsltArgumentList xslArgs = new XsltArgumentList(); xslArgs.AddExtensionObject("ext:EmailNotification", notification); // ... // The part where it breaks! (This is where we do the transformation) xslt.Transform(fakeXMLDocument.CreateNavigator(), xslArgs, XmlWriter.Create(transformedXMLString)); So, all of the above code works. However, I wanted to get a little fancy (always my downfall) and pass a collection, so that I could do something like this:
The following accounts need to be verified:
<xsl:for-each select="EmailNotification:get_SomeCollection()">

<xsl:value-of select="@SomeAttribute" />

<xsl:for-each> When I pass the collection in the extension object and attempt to transform, I get the following error: "Extension function parameters or return values which have Clr type 'String[]' are not supported." or List, or IEnumerable, or whatever I try to pass in. So, my questions are: How can I pass in a collection to my XSLT? What do I put for the xsl:value-of select="" inside the xsl:for-each ? Is what I am trying to do impossible?

• How to created filtered reports in WPF?

- by Michael Goyote
Creating reports in WPF. I have two related tables. Table A-Customer: CustomerID(PK) Names Phone Number Customer Num Table B-Items: Products Price CustomerID I want to be able to generate a report like this: CustomerA Items Price Item A 10 Item B 10 Item C 10 --------------- Total 30 So this is what I have done: <Window x:Class="ReportViewerWPF.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:rv="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms; assembly=Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms" Title="Customer Report" Height="300" Width="400"> <Grid> <WindowsFormsHost Name="windowsFormsHost1"> <rv:ReportViewer x:Name="reportViewer1"/> </WindowsFormsHost> </Grid> Then I created a dataset and loaded the two tables, followed by a report wizard (dragged all the available fields and dropped them to the Values pane). The code behind the WPF window is this: public partial class CustomerReport : Window { public CustomerReport() { InitializeComponent(); _reportViewer.Load += ReportViewer_Load; } private bool _isReportViewerLoaded; private void ReportViewer_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!_isReportViewerLoaded) { Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportDataSource reportDataSource1 = new Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportDataSource(); HM2DataSet dataset = new HM2DataSet(); dataset.BeginInit(); reportDataSource1.Name = "DataSet";//This is the dataset name reportDataSource1.Value = dataset.CustomerTable; this.reportViewer1.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(reportDataSource1); this.reportViewer1.LocalReport.ReportPath = "../../Report3.rdlc"; dataset.EndInit(); HM2DataSetTableAdapters.CustomerTableAdapter funcTableAdapter = new HM2DataSetTableAdapters.CustomerTableAdapter(); funcTableAdapter.ClearBeforeFill = true; funcTableAdapter.Fill(dataset.CustomerTable); _reportViewer.RefreshReport(); _isReportViewerLoaded = true; } } As you might have guessed this loaded this list of customer with items and price: Customer Items Price Customer A Items A 10 Customer A Items B 10 Customer B Items D 10 Customer B Items C 10 How can I fine-tune this report to look like the one above, where the user can filter the customer he wants displayed on the report? Thanks in advance for the help. I would have preferred to use LINQ whenever filtering data
