  I need all possible permutations of a given string such that no character should remain at the same place as in the input string. Eg. : for input "ask" Output: all possible permutaions like "ksa", "kas"... such that 'a' is not in the 1st position , 's' is not in the 2nd positions and so on... in any permutation. I only need the count of such possible permutations I can do this by generating all permutations and filtering them but I need a very efficient way of doing this. All characters in the string are "UNIQUE" Preferred language C++.

  Okay the previous question was answered clearly, but i found out another problem. What if i do: char *test(int ran){ char *ret = new char[ran]; // process... return ret; } And then run it: for(int i = 0; i < 100000000; i++){ string str = test(rand()%10000000+10000000); // process... // no need to delete str anymore? string destructor does it for me here? } So after converting the char* to string, i dont have to worry about the deleting anymore?

Example : string text = "75000+ Sept.-Oct. 2004"; MatchCollection dates = Regex.Matches(text, @"[0-9]{5,}[+][\s](jan|feb|fev|mar|apr|avr|may|mai|jun|jui|jul|jui|aug|aoû|sept|oct|nov|dec)[\.][\-](jan|feb|fev|mar|apr|avr|may|mai|jun|jui|jul|jui|aug|aoû|sept|oct|nov|dec)[\.]\s[0-9]{4}", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase); This code is matching with my current string but i would like to get in my matchcollection, "Sept 2004" and "Oct 2004" in order to parse it in 2 datetime. If anyone have any idea, thanks a lot.

  So a Regex pro I am not, and I'm looking for a good way to do this. I have a large string which contains a variable number <img> tags. I need to change the path on all of these images to images/. The large string also contains other stuff not just these img's. <img src='http://server.com/stuff1/img1.jpg' /> <img src='http://server.com/stuff2/img2.png' /> Replacing the server name with a ReplaceAll() I could do, it's the variable path in the middle I'm clueless on how to include. It doesn't necessarily need to be a regex, but looping through the entire string just seems wasteful.

  Hello, I need to split long string into a array with following constrains: Each part will have a limited number of character (e.g. not more than 8000 character) Each part can contain multiple sentences (delimited by . [full stop]) but never a partial sentences. Except if the last part of the string (as last part may not have any full stop. The string may contain HTML tags. But the tag can not be divided as ( to ). That means HTML tag should be intact. But starting tag and ending tag can be stay on different segment/chunk. I think regular expression with preg_split can do it.   I have a localized string which needs to take a few variables. However, in localization it is important that the order of the variables can change from language to language. So this is not a good idea: NSString *text = NSLocalizedString(@"My birthday is at %@ %@ in %@", nil); In some languages some words come before others, while in others it's reverse. I lack of an good example at the moment. How would I provide NAMED variables in a formatted string? Is there any way to do it without some heavy self-made string replacements? Even some numbered variables like {%@1}, {%@2}, and so on would be sufficient... is there a solution?

  My application is multithreaded with intensive String processing. We are experiencing excessive memory consumption and profiling has demonstrated that this is due to String data. I think that memory consumption would benefit greatly from using some kind of flyweight pattern implementation or even cache (I know for sure that Strings are often duplicated, although I don't have any hard data in that regard). I have looked at Java Constant Pool and String.intern, but it seems that it can provoke some PermGen problems. What would be the best alternative for implementing application-wide, multithreaded pool of Strings in java?

  I disassembled the .NET 'System' DLL and looked at the source code for the variable classes (string, int, byte, etc.) to see if I could figure out how to make a class that could take on a value. I noticed that the "Int32" class inherits the following: IComparable, IFormattable, IConvertible, IComparable, IEquatable. The String and Int32 classes are not inheritable, and I can't figure out what in these inherited interfaces allows the classes to hold a value. Also, note that due to my environment, I can't use boost. I think if I had boost, I could do this.

  I have a large text file I am reading from and I need to find out how many times some words come up. For example, the word "the". I'm doing this line by line each line is a string. I need to make sure that I only count legit "the"'s the the in other would not count. This means I know I need to use regular expressions in some way. What I was trying so far is this: numSpace += line.split("[^a-z]the[^a-z]").length; I realize the regular expression may not be correct at the moment but I tried without that and just tried to find occurrences of the word the and I get wrong numbers to. I was under the impression this would split the string up into an array and how many times that array was split up was how many times the word is in the string. Any ideas I would be grateful.

  I have a string of class string string str; how can I check if it is a number or not, str can only have 3 possible types described below like abcd or a number like 123.4 or a number with a parenthesis attach to the end it for example 456) note the parenthesis at the end of "str" is the only possible combination of number and none number where the bottom two are considered valid numbers, I know I could use lexical_cast if only the first 2 cases occur, but how about considering all 3 possible cases to occur?   It is supposed to be generally preferable to use a StringBuilder for String concatenation in Java. Is it always the case? What i mean is : Is the overhead of creating a StringBuilder object, calling the append() method and finally toString() smaller then concatenating existing Strings with + for 2 Strings already or is it only advisable for more Strings? If there is such a threshold, what does it depend on (the String length i suppose, but in which way)? And finally - would you trade the readability and conciseness of the + concatenation for the performance of the StringBuilder in smaller cases like 2, 3, 4 Strings?

  I have two strings: $first = '/this/is/a/string'; $second = '/this/:param1/a/:param2'; And I'm trying to get this: $params = array('param1' => 'is', 'param2' => 'string'); But getting from point a to b is proving more than my tired brain can handle at the moment. Anything starting with a ':' in the second string defines a variable name/position. There can be any number of variables in $second which need to be extracted from $first.   I realize that this question may have been asked several times in the past, but I am going to continue regardless. I have a program that is going to get a string of numbers from keyboard input. The numbers will always be in the form "66 33 9" Essentially, every number is separated with a space, and the user input will always contain a different amount of numbers. I'm aware that using 'sscanf' would work if the amount of numbers in every user-entered string was constant, but this is not the case for me. Also, because I'm new to C++, I'd prefer dealing with 'string' variables rather than arrays of chars.
