• Why should I use MVVM when it breaks built in riaservices functionality

  I'm struggling to grasp why MVVM is really a good pattern to implement in riaserivces, To me there's nothing but trouble to it, it just add's another tier that I have to code. I Get that I could change the UI, but really I don't need to. Instead i won't be able to user out of the box functionality with riaservices, datagrid, dataform all controls require some implementation. Why can't it just be simple? Is there really no way to get MVVM to automatically set "IsBusy" and all the dataform edit functionality. It's like reinventing the wheel to me, and it seems that I'd be able to write code much faster just using riaservices

  I have a datagridview on the Windows Form in c#. I am updating and filling the table adapter on the cell event. The problem is that When I go to lower half of the datagrid which is not visible until I scroll down, as I click any cell, the table adapter is filled and updated and the pointerpoints to the very first row. Any suggestion on how to fix it. I have a ideas to record the top row of the datagridview that is visible and set the pointer to that row. But how to do it?

• Bind selected value on combobox to view model

  Hi, I have my silverlight app which pulls data into a datagrid from a view model. The vm is exposed via Mef. I also have a details grid which has comboboxes. The vm also contains the data to populate the combobox values. Upon first load, everything works fine and the selected items on te comboboxes are correct and I can select alternative values. However, if I sort my main data grid (allow sort=true) then I find the binding for selected value on the comboboxes dissapear. The combobox is still populated with data but nothing is selected. Has anyone come across this issue before? I am unsure how to solve this one. Thanks

Anyway my idea below (in the nested if clause I want to check if the newly clicked item's processing data is already in the added Array Collection) is not working, but I assume there must be a better way to differiante if an click was made on a already selected row.   I would like to get to DataGridRow Cells property. It's a table of cells in a current DataGrid. But I cannot get access direct from code nor by Reflection: var x = dataGridRow.GetType().GetProperty("Cells") //returns null Is there any way to get this table? And related question - in Watch window (VS2008) regular properties have an icon of a hand pointing on a sheet of paper. But DataGridRow.Cells has an icon of a hand pointing on a sheet of paper with a little yellow envelope in a left bottom corner - what does it mean? Thanks for replies.

  Hi; sorry if I'm not clear, it's not really clear in my head too (especially after trying to find my way in other posts :p) What I'm willing to do is creating DataGrids in code, with zero to numerous columns containing a button, which will call one same function but with a "parameter" (different for each column). Here is what I got so far : DataGrid created in code DataTemplate defined in the xaml resources (with a button) DataGridTemplateColumn which uses the above DataTemplate Is it possible to bind the button's properties (in the DataTemplate), to the DataGridTemplateColumn properties (in my case, the column header would be ok), and how? Is there a way to get an access to the DataTemplate components (the button for example) in code, and modify their properties? Is it possible (and not hazardous) to create a DataTemplate in code? I declared mine in xaml because I found a post advising to do so instead of code. Thanks for your help.

  Hi, I'm using Sketchflow in Expression Blend 4 RC (although this is relevant to Blend 3 too). I have a screen with a datagrid on it (MainScreen) and there's a "New" button. I have a component screen that has a generic form (GenericForm) and a "Save and close" button. I have two states on MainScreen: State1 (and default): GenericForm visibility set to Hidden State2: GenericForm visibility set to Visible The "New" button on MainScreen has: Active State = State2, meaning when the "New" button is pressed, it changes the state of MainScreen to State2 (where the GenericForm component is visible). My problem is that I cannot link the "Save and close" button on GenericForm to State1 on MainScreen. In effect I would like to be able to press "Save and close" and for the MainScreen to set its state to State1. Any ideas?

• Flex - Tab View Multiple DataGrids and same dataProvider

  I have a flex application in which I have a TabNavigator with multiple tabs and a datagrid in each of those tabs. I have bound s single array of data to each grid. What I want to do is to bind each grid with a particular set of data in that array i.e. to distribute array contents among grids based on data type. For example items starting with letter A could be displayed in first grid, B in second, starting with C in third and so on. Hence you can say alphabetically distribute the data on different grids. The problem is that the data will be added randomly by the user. To make one data array for each grid is not an option (due to design restrictions). Any suggestions please? Thanks in advance

  Hello everyone, i am designing a local database in .net with wpf as gui. I have added a new database, and added a new table. Through the TableAdapter i generated 2 statements ( 1 statement is a select stmt and 1 is a insert) , i insert name and firstname (id is auto generated).   So how do you display complex aggregated ViewModels whose Models have relations to each other? NO wpf disciple ever spoke about that, guess why its not possible... Do you think thats true? Don`t understand me? Look: A CustomerViewModel has many OrderViewModel and those many ProductViewModel. You have 3 Workspaces to enter the new data for all 3 ViewModels AND you have 3 listboxes/combobo/datagrid to multiselect Collections of type = customerVMs, orderVMs and productVM`s. That the UI makes sense to the user he should not need to turn off/on the workspace every new customer/order/product is added what is a bad user experience, how do you do this typical LOB application requirement?

  Hello, I'm just getting started with silverlight. Basically I have a silverlight user control that has various dataGrids and a combobox, their item sources set to the properties of a custom plain c# object. My problem is that I have a dropdown list that when a user selects an item from the list a new row should appear in one of the grids. All I'm doing is handling the SelectionChanged event and adding a new item to to a list in my custom object and setting the itemsource for the grid again. This doesnt seem to work; no row is added to the dataGrid I have no idea how to force my grid to "rebind" to this property. I've been reading about dependency properties, are these what I need? Any pointers would be really appreciated.

• Refreshing an XML file through HTTPService in Flex

  I'm having a problem refreshing an xml file. I am bringing it in through an HTTP service component and putting it into a bindable array _cattArr, that I am using as the dataprovider for a grid. When someone adds an item to the datagrid, it saves to the same xml file. Then I close the window, reopen it and don't see the item that has been added. It is writing to the xml file, because when I restart the flex app, the item has been added, it's just not refreshing it. I have tried to resend the httpservice, but still no luck. What is the correct process for doing this?

  I'm starting out with MVC but not sure it's the best option. I need to create a form that is based upon a collection. Eg it might look like this: product Price Item 1 [textbox] Item 2 [textbox] [submit button] where "item" is pulled from the database and textbox allows users to update the price. essentially this is a type of datagrid but i don't want webforms style update each row one at a time i need to update the entire set of text boxes in one post. Ideally I don't want a javascript based solution as it has to work without javascript. Is this possible in MVC or should I stick to webforms (where I could do this in a repeater by iterating through he repeater items on postback)

And when I try adding a Car instance in tempList, I get an error saying that 'no row can be added to a datagridview control that does not have columns' .
