• Web-based SVG or JavaScript Org Chart or Tree Graph Plotting Visualization API

  Hi, I'm looking to build an interactive web-based org chart for a large organization. I somewhat like the interface at ancestry.com where you can hover over people and pan/zoom around and click on different nodes to make them the root. Ideally, I'd like it if people could belong to multiple organizational entities like committees, working groups, etc. In other words the API should support graphs in general, not just trees. I'd like to be able to visually explode each organizational substructure into substituents by clicking on it, with a nice animation of the employees ballooning or spilling out so you can really interactively drill down through the organization. I found http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/documentation/gallery/orgchart.html but it looks a bit rudimentary. I know there are desktop tools like OrgPlus and Visio that can build static charts but I'm really looking for a free, web-based API with open standards-based output like SVG or HTML5 Canvas elements rather than Flash or some proprietary output. Something I can embed into a custom web application and style myself. Something interactive.

• Authorship-verified website not included in "Author Stats" of Google Webmaster Tools?

  In Google Webmaster Tools, is it normal for a website for which the Structured Data Testing Tool shows that "Authorship is working for this webpage" -- to not be listed in the "Author Stats" section (under "Labs")? I already understand that successful verification using the Structured Data Testing Tool does not guarantee that Google will actually display authorship in the SERPs, and that Google decides this at its own discretion. However, shouldn't such successful verification at least guarantee that the website is included in the "Author Stats" section (which purportedly covers "pages for which you are the verified author")? I would have assumed that, if Google is not yet displaying authorship for that site, it would show both its Impressions and Clicks as being "<10". Are my assumptions incorrect?

  I'm trying to deploy a Java Application to AWS free tier. I need the following: RDS provider. Using MySQL client S3 service. This is required for the Lucene Index and image uploading SES service. I need to be able to send emails to new registered users. Namecheap is my domain provider. EC2 instance Elastic Beanstalk instance. I managed to create an EC2 instance, upload the WAR file and link it to the Namecheap domain. However I find it difficult to link the other instances to the current application. I find the documentation a little messy and I can't find the right way to do this. Can you provide a simple walk through to deployment for this use case? Thanks!

  I have read questions about URL parameters in Google Webmaster Tools in this site and the Google Webmaster Help Center but I have a problem. My site searches in the database and show some information. These two URL display some data: http://mydomain.com/index.aspx?category=business http://mydomain.com/index.aspx?category=graphic&City=Paris In URL parameter section, I can only define parameter category, how Google can detect proper values (business, graphics, real estate...)? Every word is not valid for search. If My page name is default.aspx or anything else, where I should define it? If I use URL rewriting like http://mydomain.com/search/category/business, my settings must change?

  Hey all, I know there's been questions about this before, but mine is a little more specific. I work for a high traffic website and we want to start tracking our visitors better. Unfortunately, Google Analytics is not an option at the moment, so what I'm looking for is some alternatives, preferrably server-side (but not necessarily). We're currently running Urchin, but what I'm missing most there is the way you can set conversions in Analytics and then track (for example) which keywords convert better or which landing pages convert better. Also, A/B testing is something I really miss. Which analytics tools can be compared to analytics in terms of advanced segmentation, navigation summaries, A/B testing, etc?

• Adding users to multiple/all sites in Google Webmaster Tools?

  I didn't find an answer to this, but maybe I didn't use the right terms for my search. So I'm sorry if this is a duplicate. Anyway, my situation is this: the company I work at manages a lot of sites (100+), and we've recently put them all into Google Webmaster Tools under my Google account, which was tedious enough. Now two coworkers are supposed to be added as users for each site, so they can see the data and manage stuff there as well. But I can only find an option to add users for a single site, not for all sites that are currently associated with my account. Do I really have to go through more than a hundred sites one by one and add the two users to each of them, or is there some way to add both users to all/multiple sites at once?

  On mac I would use Elastics (http://tundrabot.com/elastics) To kind of, monitor my EC2 instances. Most important to me was that it worked across several accounts and that it allowed me to connect to a running instance via ssh or RDP. This was the only real feature I care about. I can not always keep the IP address of the server that is running because ec2 is elastic, and it changes frequently. Is there any tool, like Elastics for linux/unity? Again it should support several accounts and be able to give me the IP addresses of the instance I select.

  Hi, I have setup a Hadoop cluster containing 5 nodes on Amazon EC2. Now, when i login into the Master node and submit the following command bin/hadoop jar <program>.jar <arg1> <arg2> <path/to/input/file/on/S3> It throws the following errors (not at the same time.) The first error is thrown when i don't replace the slashes with '%2F' and the second is thrown when i replace them with '%2F': 1) Java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid hostname in URI S3://<ID>:<SECRETKEY>@<BUCKET>/<path-to-inputfile> 2) org.apache.hadoop.fs.S3.S3Exception: org.jets3t.service.S3ServiceException: S3 PUT failed for '/' XML Error Message: The request signature we calculated does not match the signature you provided. check your key and signing method. Note: 1)when i submitted jps to see what tasks were running on the Master, it just showed 1116 NameNode 1699 Jps 1180 JobTracker leaving DataNode and TaskTracker. 2)My Secret key contains two '/' (forward slashes). And i replace them with '%2F' in the S3 URI. PS: The program runs fine on EC2 when run on a single node. Its only when i launch a cluster, i run into issues related to copying data to/from S3 from/to HDFS. And, what does distcp do? Do i need to distribute the data even after i copy the data from S3 to HDFS?(I thought, HDFS took care of that internally) IF you could direct me to a link that explains running Map/reduce programs on a hadoop cluster using Amazon EC2/S3. RAM: 3.99 Gb Ram Processer : 1.86 GHZ New Servers in EC2 systemtype: 64 bit operating system. RAM: 3.99 Gb Ram Processer : 2.73 GHZ - 2.31 GHZ Everthing is working fine in our production server. But as we migrated our web application from old servers to new servers and transferred the entire network traffice to new servers.Site suddenly stopped behaving abnormally. Sometimes it's super fast Some times slow. sometimes normal some times super slow and sometimes no response This all above happens with a time interval or around 2 - 3 minutes. This went on happening 8 - 10 hours. Few differences in old and new servers are Old servers are using II6 and New servers are using IIS 7.5. We are using exactly the same code in the old and new servers. Even the ec2 servers are having higher CPU then older servers but still having lower. But not sure how this is happned. Please suggets your views...

• JQuery Tools Overlay for modal dialog broken under IE8

  I've been developing a website that has several modal dialog boxes. I've been using jQuery Tools Overlay for the dialog boxes. However, I've just discovered that it doesn't seem to work properly on IE8. In Chrome (and I presume other browsers), the dialog is highlighted by darkening the rest of the page "below" it, but on IE8 the page "below" is obliterated - all you get is the dialog on a black background. This appears to be nothing to do with the way I've configured it - the same problem is evident on the jQuery Tools website itself. If you click the link above and then click one of the two buttons headed "For User Interactions", then you'll see what I mean. What's the deal? Does it simply not support IE8? If so, (a) grrrr... and (b) what else should I use?

  I'm using a basic integration of jQuery Tools "tabs" function and it's working perfectly for me, but the one thing it seems to lack over jQueryUI is that there's no way I can find to make the tabs collapsible. By that I mean all you need to add is collapsible:true to the jQueryUI tabs function.   I have some data in Excel and need to import into database. Is there any tool that can validate and maybe clean the data? Does Red Gate have such tool? The input will be Excel. Given table constraints, eg. CHECK, UNIQUE KEY, datetime format, NOT NULL. Desire output should be as least shows which lines are having problems, and then fix some trivial error automatically, like fill in default value for NULL columns, automatically correct datetime format. I know using Python can build such a script. But just wonder what's the popular way to do this. Thanks.

  In oVirt (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization) you can create a Virtual Machines Pool to allow your users to retrieve virtual machines from this pool. • jQuery Tools - Range Input with Mousewheel support

  I've got a nice looking horizontal scroller that uses the Range Input feature of jQ Tools. Mouse wheel scrolling support would be awesome, and I'm sure it can work, just not sure how to get it set up. I've got the generic setup: var scroll = jQuery('#scroll'); jQuery(':range').rangeinput({ speed: 0, progress: true, onSlide: function(ev, step) { scroll.css({left: -step}); }, change: function(e, i) { scroll.animate({left: -i}, "fast"); } }); The doc page ( http://jquerytools.org/documentation/toolbox/mousewheel.html ) for mousewheel gives an example: $("#myelement").mousewheel(function(event, delta) { }); But I'm not sure how this hooks in. • Need help in determing what, if any, tools can be used to create a free Flash game

  Yes I proudly -and sadly- declare that I am a complete nincompoop when it comes to Flash, and I have been fishing around the big wide web for information. The reason for this is that I have been contracted to create a game(s) for a website -the usual flash-based games caveat. Please I do not mean things like by those gaming generator websites, I mean small yet professional games- but the caveat, as always, is that impossible dream: it needs to be done all for free. The budget...well imagine it as not there. Annoyingly is that I am a game designer yes, but with a ridiculously tight deadline I haven't got much time to re-learn (ah the heady days of programming at uni) everything by the end of March, so I'd like to ask some people who know their stuff rather than keep looking at a gazillion different things. This is my understanding: with the flash sdk you can create a game, albeit you need to be pretty programming savvy. FlashDevelop helps there -yet I am not entirely sure how. Yet even FD says to use Flash for the animation/graphics. Yes its undeniably powerful but as I said there is the unattainable demand of no money. The million dollar question: what, if any, tools can I use to create a free flash game?

• How Many Google +1's Does a Website need in order for Google WebMaster's Tools to Show Characteristics

  I have added the Google +1 Button to my website and discovered the new Social Activity section in Google WebMaster's Tools. Apparently, one of the interesting things you can learn about your audience is demographic data. But in GWT, the Social Activity Audience section for my site (currently 82 +1's), says the following: Your site doesn’t have enough +1's yet to show characteristics But I'm not sure how many +1's is enough. Google's official help page for the Audience section offers little insight: The Audience page displays information about people who have +1'd your pages, including the total number of unique users, their location, and their age and gender. All information is anonymized; Google doesn't share personal information about people who have +1’d your pages. To protect privacy, Google won't display age, gender, or location data unless a certain minimum number of people have +1'd your content. But what is that "certain minimum number"? I've tried Googling this but all I could find to date was this page which doesn't answer the question. So how many +1's does a site need before GWT will show me audience demographic characteristics?
