• Is there a Java equivalent to libevent?

  I've written a high-throughput server that handles each request in its own thread. For requests coming in it is occasionally necessary to do RPCs to one or more back-ends. These back-end RPCs are handled by a separate queue and thread-pool, which provides some bounding on the number of threads created and the maximum number of connections to the back-end (it does some caching to reuse clients and save the overhead of constantly creating connections). Having done all this, though, I'm beginning to think an event-based architecture would be more efficient. In searching around I haven't found any equivalents to libevent for Java, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place? Mina-statemachine from Apache was the closest thing I found, but it looks more verbose than I need and there's no real release available. Any suggestions?

• Setting Curl's Timeout in PHP

  I'm running a curl request on an eXist database through php. The dataset is very large, and as a result, the database consistently takes a long amount of time to return an XML response. To fix that, we set up a curl request, with what is supposed to be a long timeout. $ch = curl_init(); $headers["Content-Length"] = strlen($postString); $headers["User-Agent"] = "Curl/1.0"; curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $requestUrl); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, false); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, $headers); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERPWD, 'admin:'); curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_TIMEOUT,1000); $response = curl_exec($ch); curl_close($ch); However, the curl request consistently ends before the request is completed (<1000 when requested via a browser). Does anyone know if this is the proper way to set timeouts in curl?

• PHP Redirect problem with subdomain

  I'm using PHP to redirect a page back to the previous page with the following: header("Location: {$_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']}"); This set of pages will only be used by internal users, so I'm not terribly concerned about the fact that the referer will not always be available. The problem I'm running in to is that if the referer looks like http://subdomain.domain.com/test.php?id=13, the redirect ends up going to http://subdomain.domain.com/.domain.com/test.php?id=13. Notice the additional .domain.com/ in the url. I've tested by hardcoding the value, and it causes the problem as well. phpMyAdmin seems to suffer the same issue, but only on this particular server. If this is not an SO question, please move accordingly.

• Should entry level programmers be able to answer FizzBuzz?

  When interviewing entry level developers, I have used the FizzBuzz question as a type of acid test. Generally, I ask for a solution in pseudo-code or any language of their choice. If someone can't answer this question -- or get reasonably close, the interview generally ends shortly thereafter and we don't progress to more interesting code questions. In your opinion, is it fair/appropriate/accurate to filter entry-level staff in this manner? Should the average four year college graduate have a reasonable enough foundation to be able to throw up a pseudo-code solution of FizzBuzz?

My question is how to use timer? I know how to use timer but How can I use it on every lessons start time?I have table that includes start time of lessons. Also am I have to stop timer after search ends?And If I stop timer could I re-run timer againg? And one additional question that how can I track that new students come or some body left class room?

  I would like to show "Suggestions" in my product listing in Magento. I made an attribute "Suggestion" which is Yes/No and global active. Now in the listing I would like to show the suggestions first, then some text and stuff, and then the rest of products.   I'm using Structure and have a "Supernav" page with multiple children that will make up the supernav for the site. I thought this would be a nice way to have all pages on the site accessible to the client via one location: the Structure UI. If you visit any of the child pages in the "supernav" group the URL comes out like this: http://website.com/supernav/prospective-students I'd love to be able to remove the supernav segment of those URLs so that it ends up being: http://website.com/prospective-students I don't even want the supernav segment to appear in the status bar when you hover over these links on the page. Is this possible? With CodeIgniter this comes down to a simple routing rule, but I don't know if that's an option with EE. Appreciate any help I can get!

  for my application I have to build a little customized time ticker which ticks over after whatever delay I tell it to and writes the new value in my textArea. The problem is that the ticker is running fully until the termination time and then printing all the values.   Hello. I have a CFC as singletone object in Application scope. One of the methods is used for massive data processing and periodically causes the "Java heap space" errors. EDIT All variables inside the method are VAR-scoped, so they should not be kept in the object scope when invokation ended. It can be a bit dumb question for Java people, but I'd like to know how Java garbage collector cleans up the CFC methods memory: only when whole request ends, or maybe right after each method/function invokation? Second option is interesting because it can allow me to split my large method into the few, as one of the possible optimizations.

• Mixed alignment with Java Swing's GroupLayout

  I'm trying to build a GUI window in my application. What I'm trying to do is have a window, with a few buttons at the top, and a large text area. Something like this: +--------------------------------------------------+ | [button1] [button2] [button3] | | +----------------------------------------------+ | | | text area | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +----------------------------------------------+ | +--------------------------------------------------+ I'm almost there, using GroupLayout: layout.setHorizontalGroup( layout.createParallelGroup() .addGroup(layout.createSequentialGroup() .addComponent(button1) .addComponent(button2)) .addComponent(closeWindow)) .addComponent(textarea1) ); layout.setVerticalGroup( layout.createSequentialGroup() .addGroup(layout.createParallelGroup() .addComponent(button1) .addComponent(button2) .addComponent(button3)) .addComponent(textarea) ); The problem is that this ends up with button3 aligned to the left, with the other two. I can't seem to figure out how I can specify the alignment on just that one button. I can do GroupLayout.Alignment.TRAILING on the entire button bar, but that hits all 3 buttons, which is also not quite right. So what's the correct approach? Since the alignment only applies for Parallel Groups, I don't think having a HorizontalGroup with two Sequential Groups in it will help? What am I missing?

There is also an image(CCSprite) adjacent to text. The text should be scrolled and the image have a touchesEnded: property. I used CCLabel for text and CCParallaxNode to add the text. But the text appears like a continues paragraph. But, my text should have different lines. My text is like this. //text starts Hey Player. Do you want to play the game right now then play.
