• Disabling repeating keyboard down event in as3

  now I'm trying to make the keyboard events to stop repeating. • Php JSON Response Array

  I have this php code. As you can see i query a mysql database through a function showallevents. I return a the $result to the $event variable. I try to return all rows of the data that i take with the msql_fetch_assoc. I don't get response even when i encode the $response variable. It returns null to all fields. Can anyone help me on what i am doing wrong. • Setting up Android application for Analytics and tracking

  Tracking events and setting up Analytics for Websites seems easy. You create an account with one of the Analytics service providers like Google. They give you javascript code that you embed in your pages (whichever event you wish to track) and voila..you're done. I have written a native application for Android phones, which is actually an adaptation of the actual web site. Now, I am required to setup Analytics and tracking for this native application. Question: How to do setup a native application for Analytics? We have Java Script code(not Google Analytics but for some other engine) that works for the original web site. Is there a way to incorporate that in the native application? I know Android supports Java Script via WebViews(Webkit);my application does not have webviews, it is native! I have not worked on JavaScript since school so excuse me if I sound naive. Thanks.

• Event consumption in WPF

  I have a very simple app written in Silverlight for Windows Phone, where I try to use events. In my App.xaml.cs code behind I have implemented a GeoCoordinateWatcher which registers a gCWatche_PositionChanged method. This works ok, method is called after the position has been changed. What I want to do is fire an other event lets say DBUpdatedEvent after DB has been updated in the gCWatche_PositionChanged method. For this i delclared in the App.xaml.cs public delegate void DBUpdateEventHandler(object sender, EventArgs e); and I have in my App class: public event DBUpdateEventHandler DBUpdated; the event is fired like this in the end of gCWatche_PositionChanged method like this: OnDBUpdateEvent(new EventArgs()); and also I have declared : protected virtual void OnDBUpdateEvent(EventArgs e) { if (DBUpdated != null) { DBUpdated(this, e); } } Now I need to consume this event in my other Windows Phone app page which is a separate class PhoneApplicationPage. So I declared this method in this other Phone Page: public void DBHasBeenUpdated(object sender, EventArgs e) { Debug.WriteLine("DB UPDATE EVENT CATCHED"); } And in the constructor of this page I declared: DBUpdateEventHandler dbEH = new DBUpdateEventHandler(DBHasBeenUpdated); But when I test the application event is fired (OnDBUpdateEvent is called, but DBUpdated is null, therefore DBUpdated is not called - strange) and I have a problem that the other Phone Page is not catching the event at all... Any suggestions? How to catch that event. Thanks.

• efficient video format/codec for sparse & binary blob tracking

  I am working on a blob tracking project and have many high-definition videos that I would like to reduce in size for storage and downstream tracking/shape-analysis. I want to use a lossless method that takes advantage of the black and white nature of the video as well as the fact that not much is moving between individual frames. The videos are quite sparse, with 5 to 10 b&w blobs per frame occupying <30% of the space in total, with each blob moving <5-10% of the field of view between frames and not changing shape too much between 2-3 frames. I will work in Python, Matlab, or LabView for this project, and could use a batch utility if available. It may be worthwhile to export the files as compressed image stacks if a proper video format can't be found. What are the pros and cons of this? A video codec uses correlations between neighboring frames, so it should be more efficient, but not if the wrong one is chosen or if it is improperly configured.

• Which other event handler than click could i use?

  I have a jQuery question, and I really think it is a silly one : i'm a beginner in JS and jQuery... I'm using $("#myLink").click(function(){ $(".myClassToShow").show(); $(".myClassToHide").hide(); }); to hide elements with class myClassToHide as a class attribute and show elements with class myClassToShow as a class attribute. I think this is really easy to understand :) I didn't think it would hide every elements with the good class, but, well, it works. My worry here is that my elements show and hide only for few seconds : the time my mouse click on the link. I would like to make myClassToShow elements remaining on the screen, when i already clicked my link, and myClassToHide elements really hide. For example, on the johann Hammarstrom's website, when you click on "Print", all his works which are not print gone hide, and only the printing one remain. That's kinda what i want. I searched using Firebug, but couldn't find which kind of event he used. I know a onchange is not the correct answer, so what? Could you help me please?

• Social Media event Bandwidth requirements

  I have an one day event in July 2012, hosting 250 attendees for a social media event. We will be uploading live video to a website, allowing the press to access the web, and some vendors will be showing off their web sites for clients and visitors. The staff will need access for uploading files and information as needed. We had the event last year and tried a cable modem brought in with 2x2 megs just for the streaming video which worked well. I had 4 wireless hot spots, rented from a company 1.5 mbps x 780 kbps, which was were a complete failure. I was assured the 4 hot spots would be enough, but they did not work. What would be the proper way to get the bandwidth required to make the one day event successful? The setting is a Private Country Club where running cables everywhere is very tough.

Numerous studies have shown that the confluence of ever-rising sales of smartphones and tablets; and the increasing tendency for workers of all kinds to be more mobile and less tied down to traditional, fixed-location workplaces and what now seem like old-fashioned PC-centric and traditional computing environments are driving Human Resources leaders to think about how, where, when, and for whom that the deployment of mobile HR solutions will help them address their business needs, and put information in the hands of those that need it, when they need it, and on their preferred devices. In the session we talked about some of the potential opportunities for mobile HR technologies, from simple workflow-based approval capability, to employee directories and robust employee profiles, to more advanced use cases like internal social networking and location-based mobile recruiting applications. And truly we are just scratching the surface of the potential and the value that all kinds of HR-related mobile technologies will help deliver to enterprises in the coming years. • touchend event doesn't work on Android

  Hi, I've just started looking at doing some basic mobile web development on the android and an writing a test script to investigate the touch events. I've run the following code in the android emulator, and the touchend event never gets fired. Can anyone tell me why ? I've tried in three versions of the emulator (1.6, 2.1 and 2.2) and all three behave in the same way. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. • BAD DC transfering FSMO Roles to ADC

  I have a DC (FQDN:server.icmcpk.local) and an ADC (FQDN:file-server.icmcpk.local). Recently my DC is facing a bad sector problem so I changed the Operation Masters to file-server for all five roles. but when ever i turn off the OLD DC the file-server also stops wroking with AD and GPMC further i m also unable to join any other computer to this domain. For Test purpose i also added a new ADC (FQDN:wds-server.icmcpk.local) but no succes with the old DC off i had to turn the old DC on and then joined it. I m attaching the Dcdiags for all three servers. • Aggregate SharePoint Event/Items into your Calendar view using Calendar Overlay

  One of the most common features I have seen in common use for SharePoint (prior to 2010) in Intranet environments for Team site is Calendar’s. Not only the Calendar list type, but also the ability to add a Calendar view to any list that has the desired columns to construct a Calendar – such as Start, End, Title etc. While this was all great for a single site/calendar, the problem of having to track numerous calendar’s remained. With introduction of Outlook 2007 bi-directional integration with SharePoint, and particularly the ability of Outlook to overlay calendar helped bridge the gap. Now one could connect to number of team sites, and setup Calendar overlays in Outlook using varying colours, to easily identify event source and yet benefit from the plotting of events on single Calendar view. This was all good, but each user in your Enterprise was supposed to setup in a “pull” fashion. This is good for flexibility, not so good when you need to “push” consistency and productivity (re-use). So, what was missing on SharePoint is the ability to have server-side overlay’s that everyone can see – in a single place, aggregating multiple sources. Until SharePoint 2010 arrived! Calendars Overlay in SharePoint 2010 There are Calendar lists and Calendar views. View can be created for almost all lists, as far as you have desired column’s in a list like Start, End, Title etc. to be able to describe and plot an item in a Calendar format. In SharePoint 2010, create a new Calendar list. Go to Calendar ribbon tab, and click Calendar Overlay. You get the screen with list of existing Overlay’s associated with current Calendar (list – in our case). Click on “New Calendar”… Notice the breadcrumb! You are adding Overlay to existing list (Team Calendar – in our case). You have choice of “pulling” Calendar info from an existing Calendar (list/view) in SharePoint or even from Exchange! Set standard info like a name, description and decide the colour you want for the items in aggregated Calendar overlay. Select the source site/list/view, anywhere in farm. When you select Exchange as source of Calendar, you get option to add OWA and Exchange Web Service url. I will cover details of connecting with Exchange in another post, and focus on Overlay’s with SharePoint for this one. Once you have added a new Calendar overlay to existing Calendar veiw, you get something like below for Day view, Week view, and Month view respectively Notice the Overlay colours: Now, if you decide to connect this Calendar to Outlook to sync the items, it will only sync items from main view, and not from Overlay source. So such Overlay of calendar’s is server-side aggregation only. That increases my curiosity, so I try adding the Calendar list view as a web-part on a new page. As you see, this instance of view didn’t include item from source that we had added to default Calendar view. This is – probably – due to the fact that this is a new web-part view for the page. If you want to add overlay to this one, you have to redo that from Ribbon. This also means, subject to purpose and context you get the flexibility to decide what overlay is suited. Also you can only add 10 Overlay’s to an existing view instance. Conclusion Calendar Overlay is clearly a very useful feature that fills a gap of not being able to aggregate information from multiple sources into a Calendar view within context of current items. Source of items can be existing SharePoint calendar views on any site, or even Exchange (via OWA/Exchange web services). List type for source doesn’t matter, it just need a Calendar view type available. You can have 10 overlays. Overlays are for the specific view only, and are server-side only – which means they do not get synced in Outlook. While you can drag-drop current list items, you cannot edit overlay items as they are read-only within scope of current Calendar view. You can of course click on source Overlay item to edit at the source. I’d like to hear, how you think Overlay’s will help you in your case, or how you are already using them...   One of the biggest reason I go to SQLPASS is that my friends are going there too. There are so many friends with whom I often talk on Facebook and Twitter but I rarely get time to meet them as well talk with them. One thing I am usually sure that many fo them will be for sure attend SQLPASS. This is one event which every SQL Server Enthusiast should attend. Just like everybody I had pleasant time to meet many of my SQL friends. There were so many friends that I met and I did not click photo. There were so many friends who clicked photo in their camera and I do not have them. Here are 1% of the photos which I have. If you are not in the photo, it does not mean I have less respect to our friendship. I stood outside of the hall waiting for Dr. to show up and when he was heading down from convention center I requested him if I can have one photo for my memory lane and very politely he agreed to have one. I am fortunate to have Rick Morelan as Co-author of both of my books. He is great guy and very easy to become friends with. I am very much impressed by him and his kindness during book co-authoring. Buck is so kind that he does not hesitate to approach people even though he is famous and most known in community. Every time I meet him I learn something. He is always smiling and approachable. I often wonder where he gets all the time for all the time and efforts he puts in for community. I never miss a chance to meet and greet him. Even though he is renowned SQL Guru and extremely busy person – every single time I meet him he always asks me – “How is Nupur and Shaivi?” He even remembers my wife and daughters name. I am touched. I am vegetarian and I told him that I do not like Seafood. Well, to prove the point, he took me to fantastic Seafood restaurant in Seattle and treated me with mouth watering vegetarian dishes.   In Actionscript 3, most events use the capture/target/bubble model, which is pretty popular nowadays: When an event occurs, it moves through the three phases of the event flow: the capture phase, which flows from the top of the display list hierarchy to the node just before the target node; the target phase, which comprises the target node; and the bubbling phase, which flows from the node subsequent to the target node back up the display list hierarchy. However, some events, such as the Sprite class's enterFrame event, do not capture OR bubble - you must subscribe directly to the target to detect the event. The documentation refers to these as "broadcast events." I assume this is for performance reasons, since these events will be triggered constantly for each sprite on stage and you don't want to have to deal with all that superfluous event propagation. I want to dispatch my own broadcast events. I know you can prevent an event from bubbling (Event.bubbles = false), but can you get rid of capture as well?

  I'm researching various database design for historical record keeping - because I would like to implement a prototypical web application that (excessively) tracks changes made by users and let them undo things, see revisions, etc. I'd love use mercurial or git as backend (with files as records) - since they already implement the kind of append-only changes I imagine. I tried git and dulwich (python git API) - and it went ok - but I was concerned about performance; Bi-temporal database design lets you store a row along with time periods, when this record was valid. This sure sound more performant than to operate on files on disk (as in 1.) - but I had little luck finding real-world examples (e.g. from open source projects), that use this kind of design and are approachable enough to learn from them. Revisions à la MediaWiki revisions or an extra table for versions, as in Redmine. The problem here is, that DELETE would take the whole history with it. I looked at NoSQL solutions, too. With a document oriented approach, it would be simple to just store the whole history of an entity within the document itself - which would reduce design plus implementation time in contrast to a RDBMS approach. However, in this case I'm a bit concerned about ACID-properties, which would be important in the application. I'd like ask about experiences about real-world and pragmatic designs for temporal data.

• How to name a bug?

  Bugs usually receive a descriptive name: "That X-Y synchronization issue", "That crash after actions A, B and D but not C", "Yesterday's update problem". Even the JIRA issue tracker has a field "Summary" instead of "Name". In discussing "big" bugs, I actually use JIRA id's to prevent confusion. There's a few restrictions to take into account: When reporting a bug, only the consequence of a bug is known. The root cause might never even be found. Several reported bugs might be found out to be duplicates, or might be completely different consequences of the same bug. In large projects, bugs will come at you by the dozens every month. Now, how would you name a bug? Name them like hurricanes perhaps?

• Most pain-free time registration software for developers ?

  I work as a consultant in a medium-sized firm. We need to keep track of time spent on individual tasks and which customers to bill to. Our current system for doing this is an old in-house system, that needs to be retired for various reasons. Most developers don't like registering time, so I am looking for the best tool for this job, that minimizes the time needed to register time. Must have features: Must be simple and easy to use. Must have reporting feature to use for billing. Must have an API, so we can integrate in-house tools. Registering time should be based on hours worked (ie. today, worked on Customer A, Task B from 8 AM to 12 AM). TFS integration is a plus, but not needed (ie. register time on a work item) May be open source or a paid product; doesn't really matter. What would you recommend ?
