• Help decide HTML5 library or framework

  I need a library or framework for small html5 contents and animation centric softwares. My priority isn't things like physics or network. I need fast rendering speed, support for touch event and most of all maximum compatibility across various platforms, including ios and android. I am pondering upon sprite js, crafty js, and kinetic js. But i can't really test the platform compatibilities, so can someone please tell me which one covers the maximum number of platforms, and if there are any better free alternatives?

  I have created a GraphViz dot-file to visualize a data flow. I have to write a documentation using Microsoft Word and I'd like to include the graph in the document. For some wired reason, MS Word is not able to import SVG files. Then, I generated a .eps file using dot -Teps plan.dot -o plan.eps But once imported into Word, the picture looks horrible. I also tried to convert the svg to wmf using Inkscape. It also looked horrible. Is there a clean way to generate a file using GraphViz that Word can read?

  In our active directory we deploy a policy to our clients where the personal directory (My documents) is redirected to a file server of ours \server\share\username\Documents In older systems everything worked fine. in Windows 7 some users are experimenting the following symptoms: * The Documents library is EMPTY * Where the documents library should be shown in Explorer an empty white icon is displayed. No caption. * Right clicking in the Documents library to edit the folders that are part of the libraries brings the dialog up. However, that dialog is unusable. No folder is present there and clicking Add folder does nothing. * Deleting the library and auto-creating it doesn't solve the problem * The shared directory can be accessed via UNC paths and it can be mounted as a shared drive as well. The library is still broken. * The shared drives are on a W2008 indexed server... * Using the Windows Library tool utility doesn't solve the problem. What can the cause of this problem be and how can this be solved?

  Is there any way to zoom in, in the System Internals Process Explorer graph? Background I'm trying to work out why my PC freezes/locks up for about a second (the pointer does not move) every so often. This has only been happening for the last 2 days. There is a very narrow spike associated with the freeze, but it's hard to hover over it an analyse what is causing it.   I'm trying to compile a program which uses Google's V8 library (which is 32 bit). Therefore any library I use within my program also has to be 32 bit. Where can I download the 32 bit version of libraries on Ubuntu 64 bit? More specifically, I'm looking for the libnotify 32 bit version.   Lets say I have a library, version 1.0.0, with the following contents: public class Class1 { public virtual void Test() { Console.WriteLine( "Library:Class1 - Test" ); Console.WriteLine( "" ); } } public class Class2 : Class1 { } and I reference this library in a console application with the following contents: class Program { static void Main( string[] args ) { var c3 = new Class3(); c3.Test(); Console.ReadKey(); } } public class Class3 : ClassLibrary1.Class2 { public override void Test() { Console.WriteLine("Console:Class3 - Test"); base.Test(); } } Running the program will output the following: Console:Class3 - Test Library:Class1 - Test If I build a new version of the library, version 2.0.0, looking like this: public class Class1 { public virtual void Test() { Console.WriteLine( "Library:Class1 - Test V2" ); Console.WriteLine( "" ); } } public class Class2 : Class1 { public override void Test() { Console.WriteLine("Library:Class2 - Test V2"); base.Test(); } } and copy this version to the bin folder containing my console program and run it, the results are: Console:Class3 - Test Library:Class1 - Test V2 I.e, the Class2.Test method is never executed, the base.Test call in Class3.Test seems to be bound to Class1.Test since Class2.Test didn't exist when the console program was compiled. Are there any good solutions? This makes it tempting to add empty overrides that just calls base in case I need to add some code at that level in the future...

• Which PHP library I should choose to work with CouchDB?

  I want to try playing with CouchDB for a new project I'm writing (as a hobby, not part of my job). I'm well versed in PHP, but I haven't programmed with CouchDB at all, and also I have little experience with non-SQL databases. From looking at CouchDB's "Getting Started with PHP" document they recommend using a third-party library or writing your own client using their RESTful HTTP API. I think I'd rather not mess with writing protocol implementations myself at this point, but what is your experience with writing PHP to work with CouchDB? I haven't tested any of the alternatives yet, but I looked at: PHPillow : I'm interested in the way they implement ORM. I wasn't planning to do ORM, but my problem domain probably map well to that method. PHP Object Freezer: seems like a poor man's ORM - I can use it to implement an actual ORM, or just as an easy store/retrieve document API but it seems too primitive. PHP-on-Couch : Also a bit simple, but they have an interesting API for views and from the documentation it looks usable enough. PHP CouchDB Extension : From the listed options this looks like it has the best chance of making it into the PHP mainline itself, and also has the most complete API. Any opinion one wish to share on each library is welcome.

• How do I put an ASP.NET website project and class library projects in one .sln file on Subversion

  My company has several class libraries we use in multiple website projects (not web application projects). Website projects don't have .sln files, but I'm sure I've read in my past research that you can make a blank solution and put your website and class library projects in it. After answers to my previous questions, this is the direction that I'm going (based slightly on [http://amadiere.com/blog/2009/06/multiple-subversion-projects-in-one-visual-studio-solution-using-svnexternals/][1]: /websites /website1 /trunk /website1 /libraries /library1 /trunk /library1 /library2 /trunk /library2 /etc... Then I planed on using svn:externals to copy /library1, /library2, and so on into the working_copy/websites/website1/ folder. I want my team members to be able to checkout the /trunk folder for website1 and get a .sln file, /library1 external, /library2 external, etc. I want that .sln file to contain the website1 website project, and all of the library external projects. Hopefully that would look something like: /working_copy /websites /website1 /trunk /website1 /library1 (svn:external of libraries/library1/trunk/library1) /library2 (svn:external of libraries/library2/trunk/library2) /etc. website1.sln So, at the end of all of this, the goal is that my teammates check out the trunk, open the solution, and everyone has the exact same solution. When we commit, everything is committed appropriately to subversion (the website code, and the libraries are committed to their appropriate place on the repo). How have others solved these issues?   I am almost done with one Java project that I have been developing on Linux. Now I need to build and test it on Windows. So I have installed Eclipse on Windows XP 32-bit, and imported my project. All dependencies of project are in jar files in lib folder, and on Linux everything works well, but on Windows XP I get following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. • Is it acceptable to wrap PHP library functions solely to change the names?

  I'm going to be starting a fairly large PHP application this summer, on which I'll be the sole developer (so I don't have any coding conventions to conform to aside from my own). PHP 5.3 is a decent language IMO, despite the stupid namespace token. But one thing that has always bothered me about it is the standard library and its lack of a naming convention. So I'm curious, would it be seriously bad practice to wrap some of the most common standard library functions in my own functions/classes to make the names a little better? I suppose it could also add or modify some functionality in some cases, although at the moment I don't have any examples (I figure I will find ways to make them OO or make them work a little differently while I am working). If you saw a PHP developer do this, would you think "Man, this is one shoddy developer?" Additionally, I don't know much (or anything) about if/how PHP is optimized, and I know that usually PHP performace doesn't matter. But would doing something like this have a noticeable impact on the performance of my application?

• How to test a C++ library usability in configure.in?

  Hi, I'm working on a C++ project and I'm looking for a way to test the existence and usability of IBM Informix's library with the Autotools - namely, editing a configure.in. I don't have experience with Autotools, so basically I'm picking up from the project's configure.in et al. scripts and copying&changing where I feel needs to be changed. IOW, I've been adapting from the existing text in configure.in. So far I've been using successfully the AC_ CHECK_ LIB in configure.in to test whether a certain library both exists and is usable. But this only seems to work with libraries with functions, not e.g. classes. Namely, this fails when testing Informix's libifc++.so: AC_CHECK_LIB(ifc++, ITString, INFORMIX_LIB="-L$INFORMIX_LIB_LOCATION/c++ -lifc++ -L$INFORMIX_LIB_LOCATION -L$INFORMIX_LIB_LOCATION/dmi -L$INFORMIX_LIB_LOCATION/esql -lifdmi -lifsql -lifasf -lifgen -lifos -lifgls -lifglx $INFORMIX_LIB_LOCATION/esql/checkapi.o -lm -ldl -lcrypt -lnsl", echo "* WARNING: libifc++.so not found!" INFORMIX_INC="" INFORMIX_LIB="" ) I've also tried using other combinations, like ITString::ITString, etc. I haven't found a "pure" function in Informix's API (i.e., one that isn't contexted in a C++ class). So I'm hoping that either there's a way to use AC_CHECK_LIB in this context, or there's another autoconf/configure.in "command" for this specific use. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

• Free cross-platform library to convert numbers (money amounts) to words?

  I'm looking for cross-platform library which I can use in my C application to convert money amounts (e.g. $123.50) to words (one hundred twenty three dollars and fifty cents). I need support for multiple currencies: dollars, euros, UK pounds etc. Although I understand this is not hard at all to write my own implementation, but I'd like to avoid reinventing wheel. I've tried to google it, but there is too much noise related to MS Word converters. Can anybody suggest something? UPDATE numerous comments suggest to write my own implementation because it's really easy task. And I agree. My point was about support of multiple currencies in the same time and different business rules to spell the amounts (should be fractional part written as text or numbers? etc.) As I understand serious business applications have such library inside, but I think there is nothing open-source available, maybe because it seems as very easy task. I'm going to write my own libary and then open-source it. Thanks to all.

• JavaScript library not working in IE, can't see error information.

  Hi there. I have been writing a JavaScript library for a few weeks now and it works brilliantly in Firefox, Chrome and Safari. I had not tested it in IE until recently. I do not own a Windows box so after testing it on my friends and realising it wasnt working I started going over my code for things that could be causing it to break. So far I have found nothing. I could not find any descriptions of the errors in the browser while I was there either. So I wondered if anyone could run my test script in an IE browser (6, 7 or 8) and let me know any information they can find as to why it crashed. Please ignore any information saying it works in IE6, I put that up there after testing it through http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/ I just assumed it was working because I could set transparency and size via my script and see it run in this tool.   Anyone have experience with drawing graphs on the iPhone? Looks like GraphKit isn't an option, so it's up to the programmer to either write his own library (using OpenGL, I guess), or an existing library. I can't seem to find any libraries that are confirmed to work on the iPhone. If you've written your own how did you go about it (opengl, quartz, etc), or if you used a library which one?

• How to resize a Flot graph when its containing div changes size

  I'm using the Flot graphing library jQuery plugin and I haven't found a good way to handle resizing the graph when it's containing <div> changes size (for example, due to window resizing). When handling the onresize event, I've made sure that the width and height of the containing <div>are updated to the correct size and then tried calling both setupGrid and draw on the plot object but with no effect. I've had some success with the approach of just removing and readding the containing <div> and replotting the graph in it. However, this seems to be prone to getting stuck in infinite resize event loops if I have to add other <div> elements to the document at the same time (like for tooltips for the graph) as I'm guessing those can trigger resize events as well? Is there a good way to handle it that I'm missing? (I'm also using ExplorerCanvas for IE in order to be able to use Flot, if that might have anything to do with it. I haven't really tried in any other browsers yet)

• Draw a column graph with no space between columns

  I am using the WPF toolkit, and am trying to render a graph that looks like a histogram. In particular, I want each column to be right up against each other column. There should be no gaps between columns. There are a number of components that you apply when creating a column graph. (See example XAML below). • storing/retrieving data for graph with long continuous stretches

  i have a large 2-dimensional data set which i would like to graph. the graph is displayed in a browser and the data is retrieved via ajax. long stretches of this graph will be continuous - e.g., for x=0 through x=1000, y=9, then for x=1001 through x=1100, y=80, etc. the approach i'm considering is to send (from the server) and store (in the browser) only the points where the data changes. so for the example above, i would say data[0] = 9, then data[1001] = 80. then given x=999 for example, retrieving data[999] would actually look up data[0]. the problem that arises is finding a dictionary-like data structure which behaves like this. the approach i'm considering is to store the data in a traditional dictionary object, then also maintain a sorted array of key for that object. when given x=999, it would look at the mid-point of this array, determine whether the nearest lower key is left or right of that midpoint, then repeat with the correct subsection, etc.. does anyone have thoughts on this problem/approach?

• Differences between WPF Custom Control Library and plain Class Library?

  I posted a question a few months ago about sharing resource dictionaries across assemblies. It turns out you can do that using the Component Resource Key markup extension. At the time, I could only get it working with a WPF Custom Control project, not with a plain Class Library project. Now I need to use an existing plain Class Library project to host a shared resource dictionary. That means I need to retrofit the Class Library project to support the Component Resource Key markup extension. I have added a Themes folder and a Generic.xaml resource dictionary document to the Class Library project, as well as references to PresentationCore, PresentationFramework, and WindowsBase. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to do the trick. So, here is my question: Other than the above, what does a WPF Custom Control Library project have that a plain Class Library project doesn't? Or, to put it another way, what else could I add to my class library project to get this feature working? Thanks.
