  • CSS - Why am I not able to set height and width of <a href> elements?

    - by Kenny Bones
    Hi, I'm trying to create css buttons by using the following html markup: <a href="access.php" class="css_button_red">Forgot password</a> But it ends up being not bigger than the text in the middle. Even though I've set the class's height and width. You can preview the problem here btw, www.matkalenderen.no Notice the first button, that's a form button and it's using it's own class. At first I tried to use the same class on the css button as well and the same problem appeared, so I tried to separate them into their own classes. In case there was some kind of crash. But it didn't matter anyway. What am I missing here?

  • How can I make a view get bigger again, as soon as the status bar goes back to normal height after a

    - by Thanks
    In the simulator I went to Hardware menu and activated the simulation of bigger status bar during phone call. Now, I tried to make a view in my nib that takes up the whole screen. As soon as the status bar gets smaller, I want my view to get bigger, so it uses that space up there. But regardless of any autoresizing settings, my view will keep pressed down after that status bar gets smaller. There is a empty slot left where the status bar was after hanging up the call. What's that actually supposed to be? Is my app recognizing the status bar as a view, or is the status bar indeed making my screen smaller? I mean...does it mess around with my views as if it was a view itself, or do my views not know about a status bar, but about a smaller screen size when the status bar gets bigger? How do you get your views big again when the status bar returns to normal height?

  • Loading jQuery Consistently in a .NET Web App

    - by Rick Strahl
    One thing that frequently comes up in discussions when using jQuery is how to best load the jQuery library (as well as other commonly used and updated libraries) in a Web application. Specifically the issue is the one of versioning and making sure that you can easily update and switch versions of script files with application wide settings in one place and having your script usage reflect those settings in the entire application on all pages that use the script. Although I use jQuery as an example here, the same concepts can be applied to any script library - for example in my Web libraries I use the same approach for jQuery.ui and my own internal jQuery support library. The concepts used here can be applied both in WebForms and MVC. Loading jQuery Properly From CDN Before we look at a generic way to load jQuery via some server logic, let me first point out my preferred way to embed jQuery into the page. I use the Google CDN to load jQuery and then use a fallback URL to handle the offline or no Internet connection scenario. Why use a CDN? CDN links tend to be loaded more quickly since they are very likely to be cached in user's browsers already as jQuery CDN is used by many, many sites on the Web. Using a CDN also removes load from your Web server and puts the load bearing on the CDN provider - in this case Google - rather than on your Web site. On the downside, CDN links gives the provider (Google, Microsoft) yet another way to track users through their Web usage. Here's how I use jQuery CDN plus a fallback link on my WebLog for example: <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.4/jquery.min.js"></script> <script> if (typeof (jQuery) == 'undefined') document.write(unescape("%3Cscript " + "src='/Weblog/wwSC.axd?r=Westwind.Web.Controls.Resources.jquery.js' %3E%3C/script%3E")); </script> <title>Rick Strahl's Web Log</title> ... </head>   You can see that the CDN is referenced first, followed by a small script block that checks to see whether jQuery was loaded (jQuery object exists). If it didn't load another script reference is added to the document dynamically pointing to a backup URL. In this case my backup URL points at a WebResource in my Westwind.Web  assembly, but the URL can also be local script like src="/scripts/jquery.min.js". Important: Use the proper Protocol/Scheme for  for CDN Urls [updated based on comments] If you're using a CDN to load an external script resource you should always make sure that the script is loaded with the same protocol as the parent page to avoid mixed content warnings by the browser. You don't want to load a script link to an http:// resource when you're on an https:// page. The easiest way to use this is by using a protocol relative URL: <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.4/jquery.min.js"></script> which is an easy way to load resources from other domains. This URL syntax will automatically use the parent page's protocol (or more correctly scheme). As long as the remote domains support both http:// and https:// access this should work. BTW this also works in CSS (with some limitations) and links. BTW, I didn't know about this until it was pointed out in the comments. This is a very useful feature for many things - ah the benefits of my blog to myself :-) Version Numbers When you use a CDN you notice that you have to reference a specific version of jQuery. When using local files you may not have to do this as you can rename your private copy of jQuery.js, but for CDN the references are always versioned. The version number is of course very important to ensure you getting the version you have tested with, but it's also important to the provider because it ensures that cached content is always correct. If an existing file was updated the updates might take a very long time to get past the locally cached content and won't refresh properly. The version number ensures you get the right version and not some cached content that has been changed but not updated in your cache. On the other hand version numbers also mean that once you decide to use a new version of the script you now have to change all your script references in your pages. Depending on whether you use some sort of master/layout page or not this may or may not be easy in your application. Even if you do use master/layout pages, chances are that you probably have a few of them and at the very least all of those have to be updated for the scripts. If you use individual pages for all content this issue then spreads to all of your pages. Search and Replace in Files will do the trick, but it's still something that's easy to forget and worry about. Personaly I think it makes sense to have a single place where you can specify common script libraries that you want to load and more importantly which versions thereof and where they are loaded from. Loading Scripts via Server Code Script loading has always been important to me and as long as I can remember I've always built some custom script loading routines into my Web frameworks. WebForms makes this fairly easy because it has a reasonably useful script manager (ClientScriptManager and the ScriptManager) which allow injecting script into the page easily from anywhere in the Page cycle. What's nice about these components is that they allow scripts to be injected by controls so components can wrap up complex script/resource dependencies more easily without having to require long lists of CSS/Scripts/Image includes. In MVC or pure script driven applications like Razor WebPages  the process is more raw, requiring you to embed script references in the right place. But its also more immediate - it lets you know exactly which versions of scripts to use because you have to manually embed them. In WebForms with different controls loading resources this often can get confusing because it's quite possible to load multiple versions of the same script library into a page, the results of which are less than optimal… In this post I look a simple routine that embeds jQuery into the page based on a few application wide configuration settings. It returns only a string of the script tags that can be manually embedded into a Page template. It's a small function that merely a string of the script tags shown at the begging of this post along with some options on how that string is comprised. You'll be able to specify in one place which version loads and then all places where the help function is used will automatically reflect this selection. Options allow specification of the jQuery CDN Url, the fallback Url and where jQuery should be loaded from (script folder, Resource or CDN in my case). While this is specific to jQuery you can apply this to other resources as well. For example I use a similar approach with jQuery.ui as well using practically the same semantics. Providing Resources in ControlResources In my Westwind.Web Web utility library I have a class called ControlResources which is responsible for holding resource Urls, resource IDs and string contants that reference those resource IDs. The library also provides a few helper methods for loading common scriptscripts into a Web page. There are specific versions for WebForms which use the ClientScriptManager/ScriptManager and script link methods that can be used in any .NET technology that can embed an expression into the output template (or code for that matter). The ControlResources class contains mostly static content - references to resources mostly. But it also contains a few static properties that configure script loading: A Script LoadMode (CDN, Resource, or script url) A default CDN Url A fallback url They are  static properties in the ControlResources class: public class ControlResources { /// <summary> /// Determines what location jQuery is loaded from /// </summary> public static JQueryLoadModes jQueryLoadMode = JQueryLoadModes.ContentDeliveryNetwork; /// <summary> /// jQuery CDN Url on Google /// </summary> public static string jQueryCdnUrl = "//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.4/jquery.min.js"; /// <summary> /// jQuery CDN Url on Google /// </summary> public static string jQueryUiCdnUrl = "//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.16/jquery-ui.min.js"; /// <summary> /// jQuery UI fallback Url if CDN is unavailable or WebResource is used /// Note: The file needs to exist and hold the minimized version of jQuery ui /// </summary> public static string jQueryUiLocalFallbackUrl = "~/scripts/jquery-ui.min.js"; } These static properties are fixed values that can be changed at application startup to reflect your preferences. Since they're static they are application wide settings and respected across the entire Web application running. It's best to set these default in Application_Init or similar startup code if you need to change them for your application: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Force jQuery to be loaded off Google Content Network ControlResources.jQueryLoadMode = JQueryLoadModes.ContentDeliveryNetwork; // Allow overriding of the Cdn url ControlResources.jQueryCdnUrl = "http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.2/jquery.min.js"; // Route to our own internal handler App.OnApplicationStart(); } With these basic settings in place you can then embed expressions into a page easily. In WebForms use: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head runat="server"> <%= ControlResources.jQueryLink() %> <script src="scripts/ww.jquery.min.js"></script> </head> In Razor use: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> @Html.Raw(ControlResources.jQueryLink()) <script src="scripts/ww.jquery.min.js"></script> </head> Note that in Razor you need to use @Html.Raw() to force the string NOT to escape. Razor by default escapes string results and this ensures that the HTML content is properly expanded as raw HTML text. Both the WebForms and Razor output produce: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> if (typeof (jQuery) == 'undefined') document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='/WestWindWebToolkitWeb/WebResource.axd?d=-b6oWzgbpGb8uTaHDrCMv59VSmGhilZP5_T_B8anpGx7X-PmW_1eu1KoHDvox-XHqA1EEb-Tl2YAP3bBeebGN65tv-7-yAimtG4ZnoWH633pExpJor8Qp1aKbk-KQWSoNfRC7rQJHXVP4tC0reYzVw2&t=634535391996872492' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E"));</script> <script src="scripts/ww.jquery.min.js"></script> </head> which produces the desired effect for both CDN load and fallback URL. The implementation of jQueryLink is pretty basic of course: /// <summary> /// Inserts a script link to load jQuery into the page based on the jQueryLoadModes settings /// of this class. Default load is by CDN plus WebResource fallback /// </summary> /// <param name="url"> /// An optional explicit URL to load jQuery from. Url is resolved. /// When specified no fallback is applied /// </param> /// <returns>full script tag and fallback script for jQuery to load</returns> public static string jQueryLink(JQueryLoadModes jQueryLoadMode = JQueryLoadModes.Default, string url = null) { string jQueryUrl = string.Empty; string fallbackScript = string.Empty; if (jQueryLoadMode == JQueryLoadModes.Default) jQueryLoadMode = ControlResources.jQueryLoadMode; if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(url)) jQueryUrl = WebUtils.ResolveUrl(url); else if (jQueryLoadMode == JQueryLoadModes.WebResource) { Page page = new Page(); jQueryUrl = page.ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(typeof(ControlResources), ControlResources.JQUERY_SCRIPT_RESOURCE); } else if (jQueryLoadMode == JQueryLoadModes.ContentDeliveryNetwork) { jQueryUrl = ControlResources.jQueryCdnUrl; if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(jQueryCdnUrl)) { // check if jquery loaded - if it didn't we're not online and use WebResource fallbackScript = @"<script type=""text/javascript"">if (typeof(jQuery) == 'undefined') document.write(unescape(""%3Cscript src='{0}' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E""));</script>"; fallbackScript = string.Format(fallbackScript, WebUtils.ResolveUrl(ControlResources.jQueryCdnFallbackUrl)); } } string output = "<script src=\"" + jQueryUrl + "\" type=\"text/javascript\"></script>"; // add in the CDN fallback script code if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(fallbackScript)) output += "\r\n" + fallbackScript + "\r\n"; return output; } There's one dependency here on WebUtils.ResolveUrl() which resolves Urls without access to a Page/Control (another one of those features that should be in the runtime, not in the WebForms or MVC engine). You can see there's only a little bit of logic in this code that deals with potentially different load modes. I can load scripts from a Url, WebResources or - my preferred way - from CDN. Based on the static settings the scripts to embed are composed to be returned as simple string <script> tag(s). I find this extremely useful especially when I'm not connected to the internet so that I can quickly swap in a local jQuery resource instead of loading from CDN. While CDN loading with the fallback works it can be a bit slow as the CDN is probed first before the fallback kicks in. Switching quickly in one place makes this trivial. It also makes it very easy once a new version of jQuery rolls around to move up to the new version and ensure that all pages are using the new version immediately. I'm not trying to make this out as 'the' definite way to load your resources, but rather provide it here as a pointer so you can maybe apply your own logic to determine where scripts come from and how they load. You could even automate this some more by using configuration settings or reading the locations/preferences out of some sort of data/metadata store that can be dynamically updated instead via recompilation. FWIW, I use a very similar approach for loading jQuery UI and my own ww.jquery library - the same concept can be applied to any kind of script you might be loading from different locations. Hopefully some of you find this a useful addition to your toolset. • Integrating HTML into Silverlight Applications

    - by dwahlin
    Looking for a way to display HTML content within a Silverlight application? If you haven’t tried doing that before it can be challenging at first until you know a few tricks of the trade.  Being able to display HTML is especially handy when you’re required to display RSS feeds (with embedded HTML), SQL Server Reporting Services reports, PDF files (not actually HTML – but the techniques discussed will work), or other HTML content.  In this post I'll discuss three options for displaying HTML content in Silverlight applications and describe how my company is using these techniques in client applications. Displaying HTML Overlays If you need to display HTML over a Silverlight application (such as an RSS feed containing HTML data in it) you’ll need to set the Silverlight control’s windowless parameter to true. This can be done using the object tag as shown next: <object data="data:application/x-silverlight-2," type="application/x-silverlight-2" width="100%" height="100%"> <param name="source" value="ClientBin/HTMLAndSilverlight.xap"/> <param name="onError" value="onSilverlightError" /> <param name="background" value="white" /> <param name="minRuntimeVersion" value="4.0.50401.0" /> <param name="autoUpgrade" value="true" /> <param name="windowless" value="true" /> <a href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=149156&v=4.0.50401.0" style="text-decoration:none"> <img src="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=161376" alt="Get Microsoft Silverlight" style="border-style:none"/> </a> </object> By setting the control to “windowless” you can overlay HTML objects by using absolute positioning and other CSS techniques. Keep in mind that on Windows machines the windowless setting can result in a performance hit when complex animations or HD video are running since the plug-in content is displayed directly by the browser window. It goes without saying that you should only set windowless to true when you really need the functionality it offers. For example, if I want to display my blog’s RSS content on top of a Silverlight application I could set windowless to true and create a user control that grabbed the content and output it using a DataList control: <style type="text/css"> a {text-decoration:none;font-weight:bold;font-size:14pt;} </style> <div style="margin-top:10px; margin-left:10px;margin-right:5px;"> <asp:DataList ID="RSSDataList" runat="server" DataSourceID="RSSDataSource"> <ItemTemplate> <a href='<%# XPath("link") %>'><%# XPath("title") %></a> <br /> <%# XPath("description") %> <br /> </ItemTemplate> </asp:DataList> <asp:XmlDataSource ID="RSSDataSource" DataFile="http://weblogs.asp.net/dwahlin/rss.aspx" XPath="rss/channel/item" CacheDuration="60" runat="server" /> </div> The user control can then be placed in the page hosting the Silverlight control as shown below. This example adds a Close button, additional content to display in the overlay window and the HTML generated from the user control. <div id="RSSDiv"> <div style="background-color:#484848;border:1px solid black;height:35px;width:100%;"> <img alt="Close Button" align="right" src="Images/Close.png" onclick="HideOverlay();" style="cursor:pointer;" /> </div> <div style="overflow:auto;width:800px;height:565px;"> <div style="float:left;width:100px;height:103px;margin-left:10px;margin-top:5px;"> <img src="http://weblogs.asp.net/blogs/dwahlin/dan2008.jpg" style="border:1px solid Gray" /> </div> <div style="float:left;width:300px;height:103px;margin-top:5px;"> <a href="http://weblogs.asp.net/dwahlin" style="margin-left:10px;font-size:20pt;">Dan Wahlin's Blog</a> </div> <br /><br /><br /> <div style="clear:both;margin-top:20px;"> <uc:BlogRoller ID="BlogRoller" runat="server" /> </div> </div> </div> Of course, we wouldn’t want the RSS HTML content to be shown until requested. Once it’s requested the absolute position of where it should show above the Silverlight control can be set using standard CSS styles. The following ID selector named #RSSDiv handles hiding the overlay div shown above and determines where it will be display on the screen. #RSSDiv { background-color:White; position:absolute; top:100px; left:300px; width:800px; height:600px; border:1px solid black; display:none; } Now that the HTML content to display above the Silverlight control is set, how can we show it as a user clicks a HyperlinkButton or other control in the application? Fortunately, Silverlight provides an excellent HTML bridge that allows direct access to content hosted within a page. The following code shows two JavaScript functions that can be called from Siverlight to handle showing or hiding HTML overlay content. The two functions rely on jQuery (http://www.jQuery.com) to make it easy to select HTML objects and manipulate their properties: function ShowOverlay() { rssDiv.css('display', 'block'); } function HideOverlay() { rssDiv.css('display', 'none'); } Calling the ShowOverlay function is as simple as adding the following code into the Silverlight application within a button’s Click event handler: private void OverlayHyperlinkButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("ShowOverlay"); } The result of setting the Silverlight control’s windowless parameter to true and showing the HTML overlay content is shown in the following screenshot:   Thinking Outside the Box to Show HTML Content Setting the windowless parameter to true may not be a viable option for some Silverlight applications or you may simply want to go about showing HTML content a different way. The next technique I’ll show takes advantage of simple HTML, CSS and JavaScript code to handle showing HTML content while a Silverlight application is running in the browser. Keep in mind that with Silverlight’s HTML bridge feature you can always pop-up HTML content in a new browser window using code similar to the following: System.Windows.Browser.HtmlPage.Window.Navigate( new Uri("http://silverlight.net"), "_blank"); For this example I’ll demonstrate how to hide the Silverlight application while maximizing a container div containing the HTML content to show. This allows HTML content to take up the full screen area of the browser without having to set windowless to true and when done right can make the user feel like they never left the Silverlight application. The following HTML shows several div elements that are used to display HTML within the same browser window as the Silverlight application: <div id="JobPlanDiv"> <div style="vertical-align:middle"> <img alt="Close Button" align="right" src="Images/Close.png" onclick="HideJobPlanIFrame();" style="cursor:pointer;" /> </div> <div id="JobPlan_IFrame_Container" style="height:95%;width:100%;margin-top:37px;"></div> </div> The JobPlanDiv element acts as a container for two other divs that handle showing a close button and hosting an iframe that will be added dynamically at runtime. JobPlanDiv isn’t visible when the Silverlight application loads due to the following ID selector added into the page: #JobPlanDiv { position:absolute; background-color:#484848; overflow:hidden; left:0; top:0; height:100%; width:100%; display:none; } When the HTML content needs to be shown or hidden the JavaScript functions shown next can be used: var jobPlanIFrameID = 'JobPlan_IFrame'; var slHost = null; var jobPlanContainer = null; var jobPlanIFrameContainer = null; var rssDiv = null; $(document).ready(function () { slHost = $('#silverlightControlHost'); jobPlanContainer = $('#JobPlanDiv'); jobPlanIFrameContainer = $('#JobPlan_IFrame_Container'); rssDiv = $('#RSSDiv'); }); function ShowJobPlanIFrame(url) { jobPlanContainer.css('display', 'block'); $('<iframe id="' + jobPlanIFrameID + '" src="' + url + '" style="height:100%;width:100%;" />') .appendTo(jobPlanIFrameContainer); slHost.css('width', '0%'); } function HideJobPlanIFrame() { jobPlanContainer.css('display', 'none'); $('#' + jobPlanIFrameID).remove(); slHost.css('width', '100%'); } ShowJobPlanIFrame() handles showing the JobPlanDiv div and adding an iframe into it dynamically. Once JobPlanDiv is shown, the Silverlight control host has its width set to a value of 0% to allow the control to stay alive while making it invisible to the user. I found that this technique works better across multiple browsers as opposed to manipulating the Silverlight control host div’s display or visibility properties. Now that you’ve seen the code to handle showing and hiding the HTML content area, let’s switch focus to the Silverlight application. As a user clicks on a link such as “View Report” the ShowJobPlanIFrame() JavaScript function needs to be called. The following code handles that task: private void ReportHyperlinkButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { ShowBrowser(_BaseUrl + "/Report.aspx"); } public void ShowBrowser(string url) { HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("ShowJobPlanIFrame", url); } Any URL can be passed into the ShowBrowser() method which handles invoking the JavaScript function. This includes standard web pages or even PDF files. We’ve used this technique frequently with our SmartPrint control (http://www.smartwebcontrols.com) which converts Silverlight screens into PDF documents and displays them. Here’s an example of the content generated:   Silverlight 4’s WebBrowser Control Both techniques shown to this point work well when Silverlight is running in-browser but not so well when it’s running out-of-browser since there’s no host page that you can access using the HTML bridge. Fortunately, Silverlight 4 provides a WebBrowser control that can be used to perform the same functionality quite easily. We’re currently using it in client applications to display PDF documents, SSRS reports and standard HTML content. Using the WebBrowser control simplifies the application quite a bit since no JavaScript is required if the application only runs out-of-browser. Here’s a simple example of defining the WebBrowser control in XAML. I typically define it in MainPage.xaml when a Silverlight Navigation template is used to create the project so that I can re-use the functionality across multiple screens. <Grid x:Name="WebBrowserGrid" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Visibility="Collapsed"> <StackPanel HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"> <Border Background="#484848" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Height="40"> <Image x:Name="WebBrowserImage" Width="100" Height="33" Cursor="Hand" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Source="/HTMLAndSilverlight;component/Assets/Images/Close.png" MouseLeftButtonDown="WebBrowserImage_MouseLeftButtonDown" /> </Border> <WebBrowser x:Name="JobPlanReportWebBrowser" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> Looking through the XAML you can see that a close image is defined along with the WebBrowser control. Because the URL that the WebBrowser should navigate to isn’t known at design time no value is assigned to the control’s Source property. If the XAML shown above is left “as is” you’ll find that any HTML content assigned to the WebBrowser doesn’t display properly. This is due to no height or width being set on the control. To handle this issue the following code is added into the XAML’s code-behind file to dynamically determine the height and width of the page and assign it to the WebBrowser. This is done by handling the SizeChanged event. void MainPage_SizeChanged(object sender, SizeChangedEventArgs e) { WebBrowserGrid.Height = JobPlanReportWebBrowser.Height = ActualHeight; WebBrowserGrid.Width = JobPlanReportWebBrowser.Width = ActualWidth; } When the user wants to view HTML content they click a button which executes the code shown in next: public void ShowBrowser(string url) { if (Application.Current.IsRunningOutOfBrowser) { JobPlanReportWebBrowser.NavigateToString("<html><body><iframe src='" + url + "' style='width:100%;height:97%;' /></body></html>"); WebBrowserGrid.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } else { HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("ShowJobPlanIFrame", url); } } private void WebBrowserImage_MouseLeftButtonDown(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { WebBrowserGrid.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; }   Looking through the code you’ll see that it checks to see if the Silverlight application is running out-of-browser and then either displays the WebBrowser control or runs the JavaScript function discussed earlier. Although the WebBrowser control’s Source property could be assigned the URI of the page to navigate to, by assigning HTML content using the NavigateToString() method and adding an iframe, content can be shown from any site including cross-domain sites. This is especially handy when you need to grab a page from a reporting site that’s in a different domain than the Silverlight application. Here’s an example of viewing  PDF file inside of an out-of-browser application. The first image shows the application running out-of-browser before the user clicks a PDF HyperlinkButton.  The second image shows the PDF being displayed.   While there are certainly other techniques that can be used, the ones shown here have worked well for us in different applications and provide the ability to display HTML content in-browser or out-of-browser. Feel free to add a comment if you have another tip or trick you like to use when working with HTML content in Silverlight applications.   Download Code Sample   For more information about onsite, online and video training, mentoring and consulting solutions for .NET, SharePoint or Silverlight please visit http://www.thewahlingroup.com.

  • Is there a tool that allows site users to schedule meetings with each other? [closed]

    - by Andrew Min
    I'm the webmaster for a debate team, and we're trying to find a tool that allows us to have multiple team members say when they're available and see who else is available during those timeslots for one-on-one practice rounds. I suppose we could use something like Doodle, but that would involve recreating the Doodle every week. There are many scheduling tools available, but they're usually built so that you can sign up to meet with a specific individual (think a doctor or a professor's office hours), whereas you could be paired with ANY individual.

  • about ubuntu upgrade for version 11.02

    - by Mr Myo MIn Hein
    In my Ubuntu version, I cannot get the essence of Ubuntu because my version is low. Most of the software cannot be used and some command are not really working. My 300GB HDD is not found. My primary HDD is 750GB, and has Windows 7 and Ubuntu on it in dual-boot. On Windows, a 450GB HDD for storage is found. The next question is about my launcher. It is not on the left side, so I cannot use it efficiently because it is in one third of my desktop.

  • Thinkpad brightness steps error using FN+Home/End

    - by petermolnar
    I've met the following problem: normally my T400 (Lenovo Thinkpad) has 16 steps of brightness, and Windows utilizes it correctly. After a fresh install & minor tweaks Mint 12 (which is based on 11.10 Ubuntu) I only had 6 steps which was way to few. Listing /sys/class/backlight showed 3 entried. I removed the acpi-tools package, one of the disapperared - and I now have 10 steps! Therefore I think if I can reduce the entries to 1 I'm going to have 16 steps, since the stepping will be 1 instead of 2 (or 3). /sys/class/backlight/ intel_backlight -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-LVDS-1/intel_backlight thinkpad_screen -> ../../devices/virtual/backlight/thinkpad_screen The problem is that I'm unable to trace back what are the configs / daemons / kernel options triggers these two. More strangely, I discovered a strange behaviour. I monitored watch -n1 "cat /sys/class/backlight/thinkpad_screen/actual_brightness" and watch -n1 "cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness" while changing the brightness with FN+home/end combinations from max to min. The outcome is the following: brighness intel thinkpad --------- ----- -------- MAX 2408475 7 | 1955115 5 | 1435640 3 | 1246740 1 | 1086175 0 | 1010615 6 | 859495 4 | 689485 2 v 481695 0 MIN 217235 0 brighness intel thinkpad --------- ----- -------- MIN 217235 0 | 481695 2 | 689485 4 | 859495 6 | 1010615 7 | 1086175 1 | 1246740 3 | 1435640 5 v 1955115 7 MAX 2408475 0 When stepping from MIN to MAX, there's no difference between the last 2 steps. Also, the OSD icon (Cinnamon desktop, default theme) goes from full to min in 4 steps and from full to min once again in 4 steps. So... it seems that the intel entry is working correctly, showing correct values. The thinkpad entry however twists the things and even showing incorrect values. Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of the thinkpad entry? System data: Linux Mint 12 3.0.0-16 kernel Lenovo ThinkPad T400 Cinnamon 1.4 desktop For any additional info, please tell me what do you need. EDIT I'm sorry, I forgot to mention, I added acpi_backlight=vendor to GRUB cmdline as well, this is the result of the semi-better working than the default.

  • General solution to solve different sports results in different languages

    - by sq2
    I currently have some code that checks if squash and tennis scores are valid, both in javascript and PHP. This results in 4 blocks of code existing, 2 languages * 2 sports, which does not scale well should any extra sports come around, or extra languages... How can one describe the valid scores of games via a settings/text file, so that each language can parse them and apply these rules. I'm stumped with the strange tie break situations in tennis should it reach 6-6 in a set, and also infinite play off in the final set should it reach 2 sets all. ie: tennis = { "format": [ { "name": "sets" "min": 3, "max": 5, "winby": 1 }, { "name": "games" "min": 6, "max": 7, "winby": 2 } ] } squash = { "format": [ { "name": "games" "min": 3, "max": 5, "winby": 1 }, { "name": "points" "min": 15, "max": 0, "winby": 2 } ] }

  • Problems with SAT Collision Detection

    - by DJ AzKai
    I'm doing a project in one of my modules for college in C++ with SFML and I was hoping someone may be able to help me. I'm using a vector of squares and triangles and I am using the SAT collision detection method to see if objects collide and to make the objects respond to the collision appropriately using the MTV(minimum translation vector) Below is my code: //from the main method int main(){ // Create the main window sf::RenderWindow App(sf::VideoMode(800, 600, 32), "SFML OpenGL"); // Create a clock for measuring time elapsed sf::Clock Clock; srand(time(0)); //prepare OpenGL surface for HSR glClearDepth(1.f); glClearColor(0.3f, 0.3f, 0.3f, 0.f); //background colour glEnable(GL_DEPTH_TEST); glDepthMask(GL_TRUE); //// Setup a perspective projection & Camera position glMatrixMode(GL_PROJECTION); glLoadIdentity(); //set up a 3D Perspective View volume //gluPerspective(90.f, 1.f, 1.f, 300.0f);//fov, aspect, zNear, zFar //set up a orthographic projection same size as window //this mease the vertex coordinates are in pixel space glOrtho(0,800,0,600,0,1); // use pixel coordinates // Finally, display rendered frame on screen vector<BouncingThing*> triangles; for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { //instantiate each triangle; triangles.push_back(new BouncingTriangle(Vector2f(rand() % 700, rand() % 500), 3)); // Start game loop while (App.isOpen()) { // Process events sf::Event Event; while (App.pollEvent(Event)) { // Close window : exit if (Event.type == sf::Event::Closed) App.close(); // Escape key : exit if ((Event.type == sf::Event::KeyPressed) && (Event.key.code == sf::Keyboard::Escape)) App.close(); } //Prepare for drawing // Clear color and depth buffer glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT | GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); // Apply some transformations glMatrixMode(GL_MODELVIEW); glLoadIdentity(); for(int i = 0; i < 10; However the problem is is that when this happens there are no collisions actually happening and I would really love to find out where the flaw is in the code. If you need any more information/code please don't hesitate to ask and I'll reply as soon as possible Regards, AzKai

  • IE issues with my Website (Help me fix my CSS)

    - by cam77
    I'm struggling geting my website to test fully positive in IE, the following problems keep arising, only in IE; My '#grey box' div displaying 200px to the left out of place, and it seems to move with the adjustment of the IE window size, does this in no other browsers, just IE. It creates this unnecessary horizontal scroll. I have the width set to pretty large, but have "overflow: hidden" and again, works fine across except for IE. On a few of my pages, the footer is somewhat cropped and out of place. My biggest concern is the particular page's CSS, pasted below. #container { width : 1265px; height : 920px; background-color : #addceb; overflow : hidden; padding : 0; } #logo { font-size : 38px; height : 167px; width : 427px; margin-left : 435px; padding-top : 20px; margin-bottom : -10px; margin-top: 10px; border : none; } #menunav { width : 100%; background-image : url(../imagesnew/menunav.png); background-repeat : repeat-x; height : 40px; text-align : center; font-size : 14px; font-family : Palatino Linotype, Book Antiqua, Palatino, FreeSerif, serif; overflow : auto; } #menunav ul { list-style-type : none; background-image : url(); height : 40px; width : 800px; margin : auto; } #menunav ul a { background-image : url(); background-repeat : no-repeat; background-position : right; padding-right : 32px; padding-left : 15px; display : block; line-height : 30px; text-decoration : none; font-size : 14px; } #mainbox { position : relative; background-image : url(../premiumslideimgs/premiumbox.png); background-repeat : no-repeat; width : 900px; height : 800px; margin-left : 16%; top : 22px; padding-top : 5px; overflow : hidden; } #simplegallery1 { position : absolute; left : 50%; width : 800px; height : 800px; margin-top : 44px; margin-bottom: -44px; margin-bottom : 240px; margin-left : -397px; background-color : #a1bbfe; padding-top : 0; } #textbelowbox { position : absolute; width : 830px; height : 45px; margin-left : 209px; margin-bottom : 240px; margin-top : -240px; overflow : hidden; } #footer { background-image : url(../imagesnew/footerimg.png); background-repeat : no-repeat; background-position : right; height : 275px; margin-top : -285px; } a:hover { color : #addceb; } #right { float : right; margin-top : 3px; } #left { float : left; margin-left : 30px; } body { font-family : Palatino Linotype, Book Antiqua, Palatino, FreeSerif, serif; background-color : #addceb; margin : 0; padding : 0; } #textabovebox { width : 920px; position : absolute; margin-left : 228px; margin-bottom : 80px; margin-top : 38px; z-index : 2000; font-family : Palatino Linotype, Book Antiqua, Palatino, FreeSerif, serif; } a.submenu:hover { color : #333; font-weight : bolder; } #dialog { font-size : 12px; } #greybox { position : absolute; width : 275px; height : 465px; margin-left : 715px; margin-top : 80px; overflow : hidden; z-index : 2000; } ul { background-image : url(); height : 40px; width : 800px; margin : auto; } ul a { background-image : url(); background-repeat : no-repeat; background-position : right; padding-right : 32px; padding-left : 15px; display : block; line-height : 30px; text-decoration : none; font-size : 14px; } li { float : left; } a:link { color : #ffffff; text-decoration : none; } a:visited { color : #ffffff; text-decoration : none; } a:active { color : #ffffff; text-decoration : none; } a:hover { color : #addceb; } #right { float : right; margin-top : 3px; } #left { float : left; margin-left : 30px; } #text { float : left; margin-left : 30px; } body { font-family : Palatino Linotype, Book Antiqua, Palatino, FreeSerif, serif; padding : 0; margin : 0; } body { background-color : #addceb; } a.submenu:link { color : #333333; } a.submenu:active { color : #333333; } a.submenu:visited { color : #333333; } a.submenu:hover { color : #333333; font-weight : bolder; } { margin: 0; padding: 0; } Please help if you can, thanks a lot.

  • How to optirun .sh file?

    - by Min
    I managed to get as far as optirun glxgear, which worked perfectly, but I am unable to define settings for a specific shell script. In its wiki it says this: optirun [options] <application> [application-parameters] and I don't know what option has to be nor the application-parameter. (I'm really new) If my file is /home/hon/hon.sh, how can I execute it via terminal? If I just type optirun hon or optirun hon.sh it shows this error: /usr/bin/vglrun: 296: exec: hon: not found there I try to find the file /usr/bin/vglrun. How can I run the shell scripts I need to run?

  • Why is my collision detection not accurate?

    - by optimisez
    After trying and trying, I still cannot understand why the leg of character exceeds the wall but no clipping issue when I hit the wall from below. How should I fix it to make him stand still on the wall? From collideWithBox() function below, it shows that playerDest.Y = boxDest.Y - boxDest.height; will get the position the character should standstill on the wall. Theoretically, the clipping effect won't be happen as the character hit the box from below works with the equation playerDest.Y = boxDest.Y + boxDest.height;. void collideWithBox() { if ( spriteCollide(playerDest, boxDest) && keyArr[VK_UP]) //playerDest.Y += 50; playerDest.Y = boxDest.Y + boxDest.height; else if ( spriteCollide(playerDest, boxDest) && !keyArr[VK_UP]) playerDest.Y = boxDest.Y - boxDest.height; } void initPlayer() { // Create texture. hr = D3DXCreateTextureFromFileEx(d3dDevice, "player.png", 169, 44, D3DX_DEFAULT, NULL, D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8, D3DPOOL_MANAGED, D3DX_DEFAULT, D3DX_DEFAULT, D3DCOLOR_XRGB(255, 255, 255), NULL, NULL, &player); playerRect.left = playerRect.top = 0; playerRect.right = 29; playerRect.bottom = 36; playerDest.X = 0; playerDest.Y = 564; playerDest.length = playerRect.right - playerRect.left; playerDest.height = playerRect.bottom - playerRect.top; } void initBox() { hr = D3DXCreateTextureFromFileEx(d3dDevice, "brock.png", 330, 132, D3DX_DEFAULT, NULL, D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8, D3DPOOL_MANAGED, D3DX_DEFAULT, D3DX_DEFAULT, D3DCOLOR_XRGB(255, 255, 255), NULL, NULL, &box); boxRect.left = 33; boxRect.top = 0; boxRect.right = 63; boxRect.bottom = 30; boxDest.X = boxDest.Y = 300; boxDest.length = boxRect.right - boxRect.left; boxDest.height = boxRect.bottom - boxRect.top; } bool spriteCollide(Entity player, Entity target) { float left1, left2; float right1, right2; float top1, top2; float bottom1, bottom2; left1 = player.X; left2 = target.X; right1 = player.X + player.length; right2 = target.X + target.length; top1 = player.Y; top2 = target.Y; bottom1 = player.Y + player.height; bottom2 = target.Y + target.height; if (bottom1 < top2) return false; if (top1 > bottom2) return false; if (right1 < left2) return false; if (left1 > right2) return false; return true; }

    it's been almost a month I've installed ubuntu I can't afford windows cd anymore it is my fault that I didn't dual boot it but, it doesn't make sense in that I can't use my own graphic card in my own computer because certain company doesn't support the driver card for the OS it is seemingly ridiculous that I can't even run a simple 2d game or not even a flash game with this OS a video of 480 and up doesn't run for closely a month I've tried my best to run everything my computer spec provides, but nothing works. not even sound quality

  • WPF problem modify style of images in multiple Button Templates

    - by user556415
    I'm trying to create a control panel for a video camera, the panel has buttons for up, down, left and right etc. Each camera function up, down, left and right is represented by three images (see code below) for the left side, middle and right side. The control panel is circular so the corner images kind of overlap (its complicated to explain this without a visual). When I click on up for example I have to hide the initial three images (leftside, middle and right side) and display another three images for left , middle and right that indicate that the button is pressed. I am achieving this by having a grid inside a button template. The problem I have is that for the corner images for the control there are really four images that represent this. For example for the top left corner the four images would be represent 1. Top not clicked. 2. Top Clicked and 3. Left Not clicked and 4. Left Clicked. My problem is if I need to make the images contained within the Top button have precedence when the top control is clicked or the images in the left button have precedence when the left button is clicked. So it's like I want to modify the left button's image visible property when the top button is clicked and vise versa. This is really difficult to explain so I apologize if it makes little sense but I can email the source code on request if anyone is interested in my predicament. <Grid> <Canvas> <!--<StackPanel>--> • iPhone Image Processing--matrix convolution

    - by James
    I am implementing a matrix convolution blur on the iPhone. The following code converts the UIImage supplied as an argument of the blur function into a CGImageRef, and then stores the RGBA values in a standard C char array. CGImageRef imageRef = imgRef.CGImage; int width = imgRef.size.width; int height = imgRef.size.height; CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); unsigned char *pixels = malloc((height) * (width) * 4); NSUInteger bytesPerPixel = 4; NSUInteger bytesPerRow = bytesPerPixel * (width); NSUInteger bitsPerComponent = 8; CGContextRef context = CGBitmapContextCreate(pixels, width, height, bitsPerComponent, bytesPerRow, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast | kCGBitmapByteOrder32Big); CGContextDrawImage(context, CGRectMake(0, 0, width, height), imageRef); CGContextRelease(context); Then the pixels values stored in the pixels array are convolved, and stored in another array. unsigned char *results = malloc((height) * (width) * 4); Finally, these augmented pixel values are changed back into a CGImageRef, converted to a UIImage, and the returned at the end of the function with the following code. context = CGBitmapContextCreate(results, width, height, bitsPerComponent, bytesPerRow, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast | kCGBitmapByteOrder32Big); CGImageRef finalImage = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(context); UIImage *newImage = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:CGBitmapContextCreateImage(context)]; CGImageRelease(finalImage); NSLog(@"edges found"); free(results); free(pixels); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace); return newImage; This works perfectly, once. Then, once the image is put through the filter again, very odd, unprecedented pixel values representing input pixel values that don't exist, are returned. Is there any reason why this should work the first time, but then not afterward? Beneath is the entirety of the function. -(UIImage*) blur:(UIImage*)imgRef { CGImageRef imageRef = imgRef.CGImage; int width = imgRef.size.width; int height = imgRef.size.height; CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); unsigned char *pixels = malloc((height) * (width) * 4); NSUInteger bytesPerPixel = 4; NSUInteger bytesPerRow = bytesPerPixel * (width); NSUInteger bitsPerComponent = 8; CGContextRef context = CGBitmapContextCreate(pixels, width, height, bitsPerComponent, bytesPerRow, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast | kCGBitmapByteOrder32Big); CGContextDrawImage(context, CGRectMake(0, 0, width, height), imageRef); CGContextRelease(context); height = imgRef.size.height; width = imgRef.size.width; float matrix[] = {0,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,0}; float divisor = 1; float shift = 0; unsigned char *results = malloc((height) * (width) * 4); for(int y = 1; y < height; y++){ for(int x = 1; x < width; x++){ float red = 0; float green = 0; float blue = 0; int multiplier=1; if(y>0 && x>0){ int index = (y-1)*width + x; red = matrix[0]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)] + matrix[1]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)] + matrix[2]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)]; green = matrix[0]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)+1] + matrix[1]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)+1] + matrix[2]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)+1]; blue = matrix[0]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)+2] + matrix[1]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)+2] + matrix[2]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)+2]; index = (y)*width + x; red = red+ matrix[3]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)] + matrix[4]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)] + matrix[5]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)]; green = green + matrix[3]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)+1] + matrix[4]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)+1] + matrix[5]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)+1]; blue = blue + matrix[3]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)+2] + matrix[4]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)+2] + matrix[5]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)+2]; index = (y+1)*width + x; red = red+ matrix[6]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)] + matrix[7]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)] + matrix[8]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)]; green = green + matrix[6]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)+1] + matrix[7]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)+1] + matrix[8]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)+1]; blue = blue + matrix[6]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index-1)+2] + matrix[7]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index)+2] + matrix[8]*multiplier*(float)pixels[4*(index+1)+2]; red = red/divisor+shift; green = green/divisor+shift; blue = blue/divisor+shift; if(red<0){ red=0; } if(green<0){ green=0; } if(blue<0){ blue=0; } if(red>255){ red=255; } if(green>255){ green=255; } if(blue>255){ blue=255; } int realPos = 4*(y*imgRef.size.width + x); results[realPos] = red; results[realPos + 1] = green; results[realPos + 2] = blue; results[realPos + 3] = 1; }else { int realPos = 4*((y)*(imgRef.size.width) + (x)); results[realPos] = 0; results[realPos + 1] = 0; results[realPos + 2] = 0; results[realPos + 3] = 1; } } } context = CGBitmapContextCreate(results, width, height, bitsPerComponent, bytesPerRow, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast | kCGBitmapByteOrder32Big); CGImageRef finalImage = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(context); UIImage *newImage = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:CGBitmapContextCreateImage(context)]; CGImageRelease(finalImage); free(results); free(pixels); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace); return newImage;} THANKS!!!

  • Unknown Space between 2 Container Divs

    - by Paul
    Im trying to determine why there would be space between 2 Containing Divs as shown, and I would appreciate any insight as to why this is occurring: The unknown space occurs between the mid-feature div (olive) and bottom-wrap div (orange) I have no heights set anywhere. I would like to see the orange div up against the olive div just above it. I can post all of the CSS, or you can FireBug this: www.davincispainting.com Here is all of the CSS: *{ margin:0; padding:0 } body { /*background: url("/images/blueback5.jpg") repeat-x scroll 0 0 transparent;*/ background-color: #9EB0C8; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 62.5%; } #top-wrap { height: 126px; width: 940px; /*background-color: Yellow;*/ margin: 5px 0 0 0; } #head-logo { background: url("/images/logo3.png") no-repeat scroll 0 0 transparent; /*background-color: Green;*/ height: 126px; width: 214px; margin: 0px 0 0 58px; position: absolute; z-index: 100; } #submenu1 { border: 0 solid #000000; color: #FFFFFF; /*background-color:Green;*/ font-family: Arial,Impact,Impact5,Charcoal6,sans-serif; font-size: 1.6em; height: 35px; width: 155px; /*padding: 10px 0 0;*/ margin: 7px 0 0 774px; position: absolute; } #submenu2 { /*border: 0 solid #000000;*/ color: #FFFFFF; /*background-color:Blue;*/ font-family: Arial,Impact,Impact5,Charcoal6,sans-serif; font-size: 1.8em; text-align: right; height: 20px; width: 114px; margin: 30px 0 0 818px; /*padding: 5px 0 0;*/ } a.contact { background-image: url("/images/RapidButton2.png"); /*border: 1px solid #CCCCCC;*/ /*clear: both;*/ /*color: #FFFFFF;*/ display: block; font-size: 11px; /*margin-bottom: 1px;*/ /*padding: 3px 5px;*/ text-align: center; width: 165px; height: 27px; } a.contact:hover { background-image: url("/images/RapidButtonHov2.png"); } #navigation-primary { margin: 12px 0 0 276px; position: absolute; } #global-wrap { margin: 0 auto; text-align: left; width: 880px; overflow: hidden; } #global-inner { background: url("/images/main_bg.gif") repeat-y scroll 0 0 #E4EAEF; font-family: Arial; font-size: 1.2em; margin: 15px 0 55px 0; overflow: hidden; text-align: left; width: 880px; } #global-inner .topleft { background: url("/images/main_left_top_corner2.jpg") no-repeat scroll left top transparent; float: left; height: 9px; width: 9px; } #global-inner .topright { background: url("/images/main_right_top_corner2.jpg") no-repeat scroll right top transparent; float: right; height: 9px; width: 9px; } #global-inner .bottomleft { background: url("/images/main_left_bottom_corner.jpg") no-repeat scroll left bottom transparent; float: left; height: 9px; margin-top: -8px; /*margin: 776px 0 0 0;*/ width: 9px; } #global-inner .bottomright { background: url("/images/main_right_bottom_corner.jpg") no-repeat scroll right bottom transparent; float: right; height: 9px; margin-top: -8px; /*margin: 776px 0 0 0;*/ width: 9px; } #top-feature { height:330px; width: 848px; margin: 12px 0 0 16px; background: #E4EAEF; /*background: orange;*/ /*padding: 10px 0 0 10px;*/ position: absolute; text-align: left; } .slideshow { height: 330px; width: 848px; margin: 0 0 0 0; /*background: blue;*/ position: absolute; } #mid-feature { margin:350px 0 0 16px; width:848px; height:318px; background-color:Olive; position:relative; overflow:hidden; } #mid-featureleft { height:318px; width:552px; /*background-color:Purple;*/ float:left; position:relative; } #mid-featureright { height:318px; width:296px; background-color:#B9C1CC; /*background-color: red;*/ float:left; position: relative; } #mid-featureleft h1 { color: #FF0000; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 2.1em; } #mid-featureleft .contentbox { padding:7px 7px 7px 7px; } #mid-featureleft p { color: #0C2A55; margin:0px 0 11px 0px; /*font-style:normal;*/ /*width: 97%;*/ /*font-size: .5em;*/ font-size: 12px; } #bottom-wrap { height:60px; width: 868px; margin: auto 0 0 6px; background:orange; position: relative; } #copyright { float: left; /*background-color:Teal;*/ width: 260px; height: 60px; text-align: left; position: absolute; margin:0 0 0 6px; } #bottom-logos { height:60px; width:596px; margin:0 0 0 267px; background: url("/images/logos2.png") no-repeat scroll 0 0 transparent; /*background-color:red;*/ position:absolute; }

  • jQuery: Highlight element under mouse cursor?

    - by Ralph
    I'm trying to create an "element picker" in jQuery, like Firebug has. Basically, I want to highlight the element underneath the user's mouse. Here's what I've got so far, but it isn't working very well: $('*').mouseover(function (event) { var $this = $(this); $div.offset($this.offset()).width($this.width()).height($this.height()); return false; }); var $div = $('<div>') .css({ 'background-color': 'rgba(255,0,0,.5)', 'position': 'absolute', 'z-index': '65535' }) .appendTo('body'); Basically, I'm injecting a div into the DOM that has a semi-transparent background. Then I listen for the mouseover event on every element, then move the div so that it covers that element. Right now, this just makes the whole page go red as soon as you move your mouse over the page. How can I get this to work nicer? Edit: Pretty sure the problem is that as soon as my mouse touches the page, the body gets selected, and then as I move my mouse around, none of the moments get passed through the highligher because its overtop of everything. Firebug Digging through Firebug source code, I found this: drawBoxModel: function(el) { // avoid error when the element is not attached a document if (!el || !el.parentNode) return; var box = Firebug.browser.getElementBox(el); var windowSize = Firebug.browser.getWindowSize(); var scrollPosition = Firebug.browser.getWindowScrollPosition(); // element may be occluded by the chrome, when in frame mode var offsetHeight = Firebug.chrome.type == "frame" ? FirebugChrome.height : 0; // if element box is not inside the viewport, don't draw the box model if (box.top > scrollPosition.top + windowSize.height - offsetHeight || box.left > scrollPosition.left + windowSize.width || scrollPosition.top > box.top + box.height || scrollPosition.left > box.left + box.width ) return; var top = box.top; var left = box.left; var height = box.height; var width = box.width; var margin = Firebug.browser.getMeasurementBox(el, "margin"); var padding = Firebug.browser.getMeasurementBox(el, "padding"); var border = Firebug.browser.getMeasurementBox(el, "border"); boxModelStyle.top = top - margin.top + "px"; boxModelStyle.left = left - margin.left + "px"; boxModelStyle.height = height + margin.top + margin.bottom + "px"; boxModelStyle.width = width + margin.left + margin.right + "px"; boxBorderStyle.top = margin.top + "px"; boxBorderStyle.left = margin.left + "px"; boxBorderStyle.height = height + "px"; boxBorderStyle.width = width + "px"; boxPaddingStyle.top = margin.top + border.top + "px"; boxPaddingStyle.left = margin.left + border.left + "px"; boxPaddingStyle.height = height - border.top - border.bottom + "px"; boxPaddingStyle.width = width - border.left - border.right + "px"; boxContentStyle.top = margin.top + border.top + padding.top + "px"; boxContentStyle.left = margin.left + border.left + padding.left + "px"; boxContentStyle.height = height - border.top - padding.top - padding.bottom - border.bottom + "px"; boxContentStyle.width = width - border.left - padding.left - padding.right - border.right + "px"; if (!boxModelVisible) this.showBoxModel(); }, hideBoxModel: function() { if (!boxModelVisible) return; offlineFragment.appendChild(boxModel); boxModelVisible = false; }, showBoxModel: function() { if (boxModelVisible) return; if (outlineVisible) this.hideOutline(); Firebug.browser.document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].appendChild(boxModel); boxModelVisible = true; } Looks like they're using a standard div + css to draw it..... just have to figure out how they're handling the events now... (this file is 28K lines long) There's also this snippet, which I guess retrieves the appropriate object.... although I can't figure out how. They're looking for a class "objectLink-element"... and I have no idea what this "repObject" is. onMouseMove: function(event) { var target = event.srcElement || event.target; var object = getAncestorByClass(target, "objectLink-element"); object = object ? object.repObject : null; if(object && instanceOf(object, "Element") && object.nodeType == 1) { if(object != lastHighlightedObject) { Firebug.Inspector.drawBoxModel(object); object = lastHighlightedObject; } } else Firebug.Inspector.hideBoxModel(); }, I'm thinking that maybe when the mousemove or mouseover event fires for the highlighter node I can somehow pass it along instead? Maybe to node it's covering...?

Right now, they're only as long as their content. The columns are #left, #right and #content. Pretty new to this stuff. Please feel free to point out sloppy code, redundancy, etc. And thank you.

  • Shared value in parallel python

    - by Jonathan
    Hey all- I'm using ParallelPython to develop a performance-critical script. I'd like to share one value between the 8 processes running on the system. Please excuse the trivial example but this illustrates my question. def findMin(listOfElements): for el in listOfElements: if el < min: min = el import pp min = 0 myList = range(100000) job_server = pp.Server() f1 = job_server.submit(findMin, myList[0:25000]) f2 = job_server.submit(findMin, myList[25000:50000]) f3 = job_server.submit(findMin, myList[50000:75000]) f4 = job_server.submit(findMin, myList[75000:100000]) The pp docs don't seem to describe a way to share data across processes. Is it possible? If so, is there a standard locking mechanism (like in the threading module) to confirm that only one update is done at a time? l = Lock() if(el < min): l.acquire if(el < min): min = el l.release I understand I could keep a local min and compare the 4 in the main thread once returned, but by sharing the value I can do some better pruning of my BFS binary tree and potentially save a lot of loop iterations. Thanks- Jonathan

  • Properly changing Ajax MultiHandle Slider parameters on postbacks

    - by Matthew PK
    Hi all, In VS2010 I have VB.NET codebehind aspx pages and I'm using Ajax multihandleslider extensions to filter search results on numerical values. Fistly, the multihandle sliders don't display in the designer... I have to remove the slider targets tag: In order to make it display in the designer... this isn't so much a big issue but an annoyance. I am displaying items in a given category. So I get the max and min prices for all items in that category and assign the sliderextension max/min values appropriately. This works fine until... I change the item category and go get a new max/min value for the slider control. I set the max/min values, then I set the target textbox values each to the corresponding max/min values. The slider handles don't repaint (or init?) properly Like say for example my initial min/max is 1/100 if I do a full postback and change the max value to 1000 then the slider bar (correctly) stays the same size but the handle appears WAYYYY to the right off the page and I have to scroll to it. When I click it, it shoots back onto the slider bar. I'm pulling my hair out... why do the slider handles only appear properly when I first set the min/max values?

  • Dealing with Try/Catch Exceptions in Java bytecode? ("stack height inconsistent")

    - by Cogwirrel
    I am trying to do some error handling in java bytecode. I first tried to implement some catch-like subroutines, where I would check for the error condition, and jump to the appropriate subroutine, a little like: iconst_1 iconst_0 dup ifeq calldiverr goto enddivtest calldiverr: jsr divError enddivtest: idiv ...More instructions... divError: getstatic java/lang/System/out Ljava/io/PrintStream; ldc "Oh dear you divided by 0!" invokevirtual java/io/PrintStream/print(Ljava/lang/String;)V The problem with the above is that when I have multiple instructions that jump to this subroutine, I get an error message when running the bytecode, saying that the stack height is inconsistent. Perhaps using exceptions is the best way to get around this? From some googling I have found that you can create instances of Exception classes and initialise them with something like: new java/lang/Exception dup ldc "exception message!" invokespecial java/lang/Exception/<init>(Ljava/lang/String;)V I have also found that you can throw them with athrow and this seems ok. What is confusing me however is exactly how exceptions are caught. There seems to be a magical "Exception table" which glues the throwing and catching of exceptions together, but I do not know how to define one of these when writing bytecode from scratch (and assembling using Jasmin). Can somebody tell me the secret of creating an exception table? And possibly give me an example of exception handling that will assemble with jasmin?

  • HTML/CSS: Keep the same height between the backgrounds of a term-description pair in a table-like de

    - by peroyomas
    I want to format a definition list in HTML as if it were a table with th in a column and td in another, with a background that alternates per row (although a background for the dt and another for the dd also fits for the problem), so I have this CSS: dl { font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 0.6em; overflow: hidden; width: 200px;; } dl dt { font-weight: bold; float: left; clear: left; padding-right: 1%; width: 48%; } dl dt:nth-of-type(odd), dl dd:nth-of-type(odd) { background-color: #EEE; } dl dt:nth-of-type(even), dl dd:nth-of-type(even) { background-color: #DDD; } dl dd { float: left; width: 50%; padding-left: 1%; margin-left: 0; } Example HTML: <dl> <dt>Key 1</dt> <dd>Value 1</dd> <dt>Very very very long key 2 </dt> <dd>Value 2</dd> <dt>Key 3</dt> <dd>Value 3 with<br /> line breaks</dd> <dt>Key 4</dt> <dd>Value 4</dd> </dl> The problem is that, due to the eventual height dissimilarity, "holes" with no background appears in the list: Is there a way to fix that?

  • Layout: how to make image to change its width and height proportionally?

    - by Exterminator13
    I have such layout: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal"> <TextView android:id="@+id/title" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_centerVertical="true" android:layout_toLeftOf="@+id/my_image" android:ellipsize="end" android:singleLine="true" android:text="Some text" android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium" /> <ImageView android:id="@+id/my_image" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignTop="@+id/title" android:layout_alignBottom="@+id/title" android:layout_alignParentRight="true" android:layout_centerVertical="true" android:adjustViewBounds="true" android:src="@drawable/my_bitmap_image" /> This layout does almost what I need: it makes image view height the same as text view. The image graphic contents stretched also keeping aspect ratio. But, the width of the image view does not change! As a result, I have a wide gap between text and the image view! As a temporal solution, I override View#onLayout. The question: how to change image width in xml layout? UPDATE: This is a final layout I need (text + a few images). Look at the first image: its width should be exactly the same as scaled image in it with no paddings and margins:
