• Xinerama creates a panning viewport

  EDIT: I've created a bug report: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48458 My Setup I have 4 monitors, 1920x1080, which are in portrait mode (rotated left). They are connected to two radeon graphic cards. As usual, a picture says more than a thousand words. The problem Everything works fine, when Xinerama is disabled. But when I enable Xinerama, things get weird. When I move the mouse of the screen and return, the screen contents begin to move with the mouse, only on this monitor. It seems like the virtual display size does not match the real screen size, which activates a panning viewport. Any idea how to stop this?   When I look at the options used from Internet Explorer for the cookies, I read the following description: Blocca i cookie di terze party privi di una versione compatta dell'informativa sulla privacy. Its translation is roughtly: Blocks the cookies without a compact version of the privacy's informative. I don't get which cookies are blocked. From that description, it seems the cookies should include a compact description of the privacy informative, but I don't get how cookies can contain that information, or what happens with cookies set from sites outside the European Union. What cookies are blocked? The screenshot has been taken from Internet Explorer 9, but that words were used also from previous versions. The settings are the ones shown for the "Privacy" tab; I don't recall if the English version calls that tab the same way. EDIT, English screenshot .

• MySQL ODBC + SSL with only the SSL Cipher option?

  Does anybody know how I can have an SSL encrypted connection over MySQL ODBC without the cert options? So I asked my web host to setup a MySQL+SSL connection so that we can access our website's database via ODBC or MySQL Query Browser (or the likes). I am able to get an encrypted connection with the standard mysql client and MySQL Query Browser, but I can't get the ODBC connection to work. Looking for a little help... The way they set it up is a little different from the way I have read about on the interweb. The host didn't setup a cert, or at least I don't think so - I don't need to specify any cert options in my connection. I just need to specify the ssl cipher. Here is how I connect with the mysql client: mysql -h myhost.com -u myuser --ssl-cipher=3DES -p That works to get an encrypted connection. At least I am pretty sure it works because when I run mysql> \s I get SSL: Cipher in use is EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA Also, when I put EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA into the SSL Cipher field of MySQL Query Browser (without specifying any other SSL options) it connects just fine. But then when I try to do the same thing with my MySQL ODBC 3.5.1 and 5.1 I get a generic error. Here is the error from the 5.1 Driver.   I'm trying to configure xorg.conf to correctly set the resolution of my screens. I'm using a matrox triplehead, so the monitor is a single 5040x1050 screen. Unfortunately, it's being incorrectly set to 3840x1024. • Cheap machine with Xen to have more than one personal dev servers with RAID option?

  I do not have a lot of money so when I need a personal dev servers I decided I will use Xen on one machine to run various OS's. Although, I really like Dell Zino (http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/desktops/inspiron-zino-hd/pd.aspx?refid=inspiron-zino-hd&cs=19&s=dhs) as a very economical and compact PC which can be scaled to 8GB of RAM, I do not know how to have a RAID setup, for the backup. Is there an economical way to add a RAID setup to Dell Zino or I would have to invest in a proper box for that? • is a wildcard SSL the only option in this multiple VHOST/1IP setup?

  I have a web app set up that needs the following SSL encryption: secure.myapp.com -> SSL www.myapp.com/login -> SSL www.myapp.com/signup -> SSL If I'm correct, I could run one SSL certificate for my whole www.myapp.com/* pages. The problem is that I have a subdomain called secure.myapp.com that either needs to be on a separate IP address to work with SSL. Right now I have one server, one public IP and a number of Virtual Hosts in apache to make this work. I'd rather not buy an expensive Wildcard SSL certificate to secure just one subdomain. What is your advice on this? If it IS the only solution any tips on getting a price worthy wildcard SSL cert is appreciated. I have read about SNI that allows the use of multiple SSL certs, but not all browsers (IE6!) support this. Since we are building a web app for the public, we cannot have IE6 to run on unencrypted connections. Thanks for you help

  Hi, in my keyboard the command key is mapped to the windows key (I'm using a regular PC keyboard) so I only have a left command, because the space on the right is occupied by the useless Fn key. I've used Ukelele and also edited keyboard mappings but that's for printable characters, doesn't actually allow you to map modifier keys on the keyboard. Thanks!

• Large scale file replication with an option to "unsubscribe" from a replicated file on a given machine

  I have a 100+ GB files per day incoming on one machine. (File size is arbitrary and can be adjusted as needed.) I have several other machines that do some work on these files. I need to reliably deliver each incoming file to the worker machines. A worker machine should be able to free its HDD from a file once it is done working with it. It is preferable that a file would be uploaded to the worker only once and then processed in place, and then deleted, without copying somewhere else — to minimize already high HDD load. (Worker itself requires quite a bit of bandwidth.) Please advise a solution that is not based on Java. None of existing replication solutions that I've seen can do the "free HDD from the file once processed" stuff — but maybe I'm missing something... A preferable solution should work with files (from the POV of our business logic code), not require the business logic to connect to some queue or other. (Internally the solution may use whatever technology it needs to — except Java.)

• Wine causes twin view to break

  I have endlessly been playing around with the Nvidia X Server settings and changing my xorg.conf file to try and work for me and on most days its fine. In each instance I get it working for a while and then this morning the most bizarre thing happens. The moment I open any type of Wine program (which never use to be a problem) my Twin View setup disappears and am left with mirrored displays. I try and change the settings in the Nvidia driver, but its not interested and the screens remain mirrored. I have a work around. Restart my pc... • Is a memory upgrade a viable option to fix performance issues? [closed]

  I'm currently seeing my PC getting bogged down by Firefox 11.0 alone with only one hundred tabs open. Resulting in a memory use of over 530M , VM size of over 800M and an insane amount of page faults (easily reaching 100 million over the course of the day). The PF delta during normal operation easily reaches 7k with peaks to 15k sometimes reaching over 20k. This leads to a (real) deterioration to response time when switching, opening and closing tabs, opening menus, typing, ... My question is: Am I right in assuming that plugging in more RAM (either adding 2x1GB or replacing the existing RAM with 2x2GB or 4x1GB) will solve this problem? My specs: Windows XP Home Edition SP3 (32 bit) Intel Core Duo 2,4 GHz 2x512MB RAM 800MHz DDR2 (dual channel) 4MB unified cache 320GB HDD Intel G33 (X3100) onboard graphics (no graphics card but PCI express x16 slot is available)

  I am trying to automate an svnadmin dump command for a backup script, and I want to do something like this: find /var/svn/* \( ! -name dir -prune \) -type d -exec svnadmin dump {} > {}.svn \; This seems to work, in that it looks through each svn repository in /var/svn, and runs svnadmin dump on it. However, the second {} in the exec command doesn't get substituted for the name of the directory being processed. It basically just results a single file named {}.svn. I suspect that this is because the shell interprets > to end the find command, and it tries redirecting stdout from that command to the file named {}.svn. Any ideas?

  Having just been through the process of rebuilding a Windows XP desktop machine when the disk died, I'm anxious to make it a lot less painful. I didn't lose any data, but reinstalling everything took ages. Clonezilla seems to be a highly mentioned free backup tool. How easy would it be to implement the following: a nightly unattended backup of the desktop's disk image to another network machine (or a second drive in the machine), hopefully with compression. restore from that image using USB boot media. so that if I come in to work and find the hard drive has tanked, it is just a matter of replacing the dead drive with a new one, booting from the USB stick, choosing the image to restore, and then finding something else to do for an hour or two. When it is finished I would hopefully be back to where I was.

  Hello All, I want to ensure I have done all I can to configure a system's disks for serious database use. The three areas I know of (any others?) to be concerned about are: I/O size: the database engine and disk's native size should either match, or the database's native I/O size should be a multiple of the disk's native I/O size. Disks that are capable of Direct Memory Access (eg. IDE) should be configured for it. When a disk says it has written data persistently, it must be so! No keeping it in cache and lying about it. I have been looking for information on how to ensure these are so for CENTOS and Ubuntu, but can't seem to find anything at all! I want to be able to check these things and change them if needed. Any and all input appreciated.

  I've been using PSshutdown remotely on our Windows XP machines for our weekly reboots because of its ability to reboot with the ability to abort the operation. I use ShTasks to create the weekly task. The Problem is on Windows 7 the task is created but never executes because of UAC even when I run the batch using an administrator command line, or with the elevate privileges switch. I saw another user "Bob" created a program called idleshutdown.exe which does something similar. Not sure how his program gets around UAC.
