How to ban password use on Ubuntu Hardy?
I will be using Ubuntu instances on EC2 where passwords are not used but private keys are used to login via ssh.
Thanks for help.
Hello,
I would like to configure a task like "child control software",
so it would hibernate the pc at certain times.
Is it possible to prevent modification (here: pausing) of
a task through requiring the entering of the admin password to modify,
EVEN THOUGH the currently-logged-in (and only) user is
the admin account itself?
(Do you know of any child control software that does NOT require
an additional account yet is able to hibernate the system at
certain times?)
Thanks a lot!
Matthias
I have a security policy question:
I want to know how other admins handle the WIFI password in the office.
Does everyone know it?
Do you enter it in for the user or guest every time and keep it a secret.
I am in camp 2.
Just want to know what others do and their reasoning behind it.
Hello,
I have almost default configuration of Postfix
How can I configure Postfix to ask for username/password before relaying mail from other than "mynetworks" IP's?
Thank You very much
My .htaccess on Rackspace looks like this:
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Restricted Area"
AuthUserFile /path-to-htdocs/.htpasswd
Require valid-user
Now I would expect this to password protect the whole directory, however, it only protects files with .php extension! What is wrong with it? Is it something in the default http.conf that I cannot override? The path used to .htpasswd is correct as it accepts the user/passwd in the case of .php
In our network we have a Windows 7 print server. Users connect to this machine by typing \\server_name on their own workstations. The print server and the users` computers are members of Active Directory. In AD, only computers have accounts, users are using local accounts.
Is it possible to configure Windows 7 so that it doesn't ask for login and password when a user tries to access it from computer which is member of domain?
I was given a VPC file which belonged to an employee who left our company. The VPC has important code and data. Anyways, I started up the instance in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, but can't logon because we don't know any user names or passwords for the machine. How can I reset the Administrator password on the virtual machine?
In previous versions of the remote desktop client there were methods of passing in the password through various methods. Has anybody found a good method using the latest remote desktop client? I'm aware of LaunchRDP but that doesn't meet our needs.
Perhaps somebody knows the algorithm so I can dynamically assemble RDP connection files?
I've bought some ebooks - password protected PDF files. Since the passwords are very long I wish Adobe Reader could save them for future usage.
Does anybody know a solution or workaround for this problem?
Thanks!
Can the Firefox password manager store and manage passwords for multiple sub-domains, or for multiple URLs in the same domain? The default behavior of Firefox is that all requests for *.domain.com are treated as the same. I'd like to have Firefox do the following:
Store and manage passwords separately for multiple sub-domains, e.g. mail.google.com and picasa.google.com
Store and manage passwords separately for different URLs in the same domain, e.g. http://mail.google.com/a/company1.com and http://mail.google.com/a/company2.com
I have forgotten the administrator password of my Windows XP installation and locked out. Is there a way to reset it? I do have physical access to the PC.
I am testing a highly-customized web application in Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8, since it is an up and coming release, and will likely be using my application some day. Take a look at this sample screenshot of some text input controls from the application:
Is there a way, either within HTML or CSS, to remove the action icons that are located to the right of the text and password input controls, or is the an OS-specific feature that cannot be disabled?
Thank you for your time.
I'm trying to write an upstart file for OpenConnect. The task is pretty simple, but I'm stuck because I don't want to provide the username and password in a config file, but prompt the user to provide them each time.
The upstart file, placed in /etc/init/openconnect.conf is
exec /usr/sbin/openconnect --script=/etc/vpnc/vpnc-script my-gw.example.com
However, when I execute
start openconnect
the process is backgrounded immediately and I get no chance to provide input.
How can I make this upstart job ask the user for input?
I have a PC with windows XP that administrator passowrd is forgeten and no other user account is created. How to set or recover or remove administrator password.

Hi,
I tried to download the rpm for vim from ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/vim/vim-minimal-6.3-1.aix5.1.ppc.rpm . I am using "ftp" command in AIX.
when I use,
open public.dhe.ibm.com
It's prompting for username/password. But no information regarding this is given on the linked page. How do I download the rpm using "ftp" command?. Thanks.
...when logged into a Server via remote Desktop?
I see no way to Access Windows security. In "old" 2008 R2 there was a "Windows Security" entry in the start menu when coming via rdp.
In the new Metro Start Menu, the username context menu allows me to lock the Computer or log out - but not Change the Password.
Yes, I can go through user Management, but this is not something I want People to do ;)
I have scripted a process that involves updating symbolic links on files located on 3 different machines. On those machines exists 4 users each, who each need to have these links updated.
Using su, is there a way to pass the password argument to the command on a single line, without invoking sudo as the users will not have admin rights?
My only alternative solution at this point is to ssh around, however I would like to be able to do this without hardcoding in a bunch of hosts/ips.
