• Upgrading Visio 2000 to Visio 2007

  I have Microsoft Visio 2000 SR 1, and recently purchased Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2007 with the understanding (supported by the product info and some other research) that I'd be able to upgrade. However, when I install 2007, it tells me it can't find a previous install of Visio, but... it's right there! Here's the exact message: "Setup can't find a version of Microsoft Office on your computer. If Office is installed on a disk or network share, click the browse button to select the appropriate disk or share... (etc.)" No matter which directory or drive I pick (various Office installs, the old Visio install, various subdirectories) it gives the following message: "The path you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgradeable product. Click 'Retry' to try again or 'Cancel' to quit setup." Any ideas? This is a legit copy of Visio 2007 (purchased from Amazon) and the copy of Visio 2000 is legit as well. I'm not sure what exactly the installer is looking for that it would consider a "qualifying upgradeable product". A specific file?

• App-V Problems After SCCM 2007 SP2 Upgrade

  We're running an SCCM (MS System Centre Config Manager, successor to SMS) 2007 environment and delivering a number of applications to clients virtualized using App-V 4.5.1. The App-V apps are delivered by SCCM in Download-and-Execute, not streaming mode. The SCCM environment was recently service packed to SCCM 2007 SP2 (amongst other things this gives Win7 support). We also pushed out the updated SCCM clients to our workstations. This seems to have broken file associations for virtual apps for a large number of our users. The users can still open their App-V apps by finding the specific app on their Start Menu and clicking it's icon, but double-clicking an associated file in Explorer, or opening an email attachment gives the "This action is only valid for installed applications" error. There is a Technet blog entry from the App-V team talking about this issue "Upgrade to ConfigMgr 2007 SP2 may break App-V File Type Associations" but running the script there comes back saying "The User Interface option has been updated" but hasn't seemed to fix the problems for any of our users. Unfortunately the Technet blogs don't seem to have comments switched on so you can't see how this has worked out for other people. Anyone else had this problem, have you found any other way to fix it?

  Hi, Long story: My MacBook's hard drive failed one year ago, just a month after its warranty ended or: a year and a month after I bought it. After about ten phone calls to Apple's service, they agreed to extend the warranty for another year, so that I got it replaced free of charge. In the mean time, I got to know that many MacBook users that experience/report hard drive failures. Every reported crash was preceded by a slowdown of system performance, an increased occurrence of the spinning beach ball wait courser, and frequent crashes of applications that used to run very robust until then. It happened (as far as I know) with MacBooks from 2006/2007. All these MacBooks additionally suffer from a recurring wearing down of their "top case". Many heavy users had to replace their HDDs three time since 2006/2007 resulting in an head crash, making it impossible to recover data (diagnosis of recovery specialists) in most but not all cases HDD was Seagate (doesn't necessarily have to be the cause, if majority of the MacBook charge contained Seagate drives) And right now (one year after my first disk crash), these symptoms are cumulating on my system, again ... Short version: prevalent hard drive failure on MacBook charge from 2006/2007 (i.e. 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Due) I am looking for any (preferable open source) tool for checking the hard drive condition, especially to detect the known "MacBook problem". So, that I can replace the disk on time. If any Mac user found a solution to prevent the repeated failure of heir hard drive, I would be very glad to get to known it. I really enjoy my old MacBook, but I hate to get interrupted every year by an HDD crash. BTW, the issue is already in discussion for a long time, but there seems to be no solution, so far. • Problems connecting to MS Dynamics AX 2009 Application Object Server

  I've got a funny problem connecting to an AOS server. I got a domain network containing a (VM) Server running the Application Object Server (AOS). Client computer A) can connect to the AOS without problems and work. When client computer B) tries to connect, all I get is this error message: Logon Error Connection with the Application Object Server could not be established. The event log of Client B) does not contain any messages about this. Firewalls are off on all three computers (by GP). Tcp/ip from cliebt B) to the AOS server does run fine. Both clients run the same OS (win 7 RC), sit on the same subnet, next to each other. Yesterday it all worked, today just one computer can connect. Any ideas what might cause this problem, how to resolve it, or how to debug it?

• Can an installation of SSRS be used for other reports if the SCOM Reporting Role is installed?

  I'm currently in the process of planing a SCOM 2007 R2 deployment and would like to deploy the OperationsManagerDW and Reporting Server to a shared SQL 2008 cluster which is used for reporting across multiple solutions. However in the in the deployment guide for SCOM 2007 R2 it says: Due to changes that the Operations Manager 2007 Reporting component makes to SQL Server Reporting Services security, no other applications that make use of SQL Server Reporting Services can be installed on this server. Which concerns me that it may interfere with existing or future (non SCOM) reports in some way even if deployed as a separate SSRS instance. Later in the same guide it states: Installing Operations Manager 2007 Reporting Services integrates the security of the instance of SQL Reporting Services with the Operations Manager role-based security. Do not install any other Reporting Services applications in this same instance of SQL Server. Does this mean that I can install a new SSRS instance and use this on the shared cluster for SCOM reporting or that I'd also need to create a whole new SQL Server instance as well as SSRS instance or I'd need a whole separate server for SCOM OperationsManagerDW and Reporitng Server?

• Adobe Coldfusion Railo OpenBD Apache Tomcat Multiple Sites

  Here's what I am trying to do, unless I am crazy: I am trying to use Tomcat with the multiple workers, so far I got OpenBD working, but having trouble with Railo, and will be tackling Adobe after. each engine deployed as a war separated by different workers I wanted to keep both the sites and engines inside my sites directory I have to remap the symlink for the WEB-INF when I switch engines = have not found a way around this my thought is to have everything separated into modules and I want to be able to execute both cfm and php code in a single site.  Ideally, it would be amazing if there would be a way to not have to remap the symlink as well. thoughts? can this be done?   I am running Windows 7, Outlook 2007 (Office 2007 pro) and I'm connecting to our Exchange Server 2007 which is part of Small Business Server 2008. Outlook 2007 on one client keeps asking for the password to the remote access URL. If I simply click cancel it's OK for a few minutes. Entering the password and clicking the save PW box does no good. Sometimes clicking cancel results in another dilog box asking the same thing and I may have to click cancel several times to get it to go away for a while. Occasionally Outlook may actually go into a mode where it says it needs the password typed so I click the link which brings the dialog back but simply clicking cancel will make Outlook connect again. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

• Laptop with internal serial port in 2009 (and 2010)

  Are there any computer vendors (like Dell, Lenovo, or..) that still sell laptops with an internal serial port? We are using several modem and other kind of box at work that have to be used (and/or programmed) with serial port (RS232, DB9, ..). We tried many usb/pcmcia serial adapter which run fine when used to load programs on the boxes but not with modems. The protocol behind the RTC connection (with modem) need timer we are not able to reach when using an adapter (maybe until we find a very good adapter), and that leads to my question..

• Paste textbox from Powerpoint to Word as an editable control

  I have a Powerpoint 2007 file that contains a number of textboxes and shapes with text on them. I can edit, resize, change the text, etc. in these boxes in Powerpoint. However, if I select an item, copy it, and paste it into a Word 2007 document, I can't edit it. I can resize the entire thing, but it acts more like an image than a text box. I've tried the paste special options and keep source formatting options, but still can't edit it. Is there a way to be able to paste the editable content from Powerpoint and still have it editable in Word? Update I found this question that appears to get to the root of the problem: The MS Office Art graphics engine (aka Escher 2) is new to MS Office 2007 and while fully implemented in Excel and Powerpoint is only partially implemented in Word 2007 for backwards compatibility with the MS Office Drawing/Graphics engine (aka Escher) still available in Word It should work in earlier versions of Word and Word 2010, but not Word 2007. This is quite frustrating as I have to edit the slide in Powerpoint before copying it into Word. While doable, it adds another step, but the problem is that everyone who wants to update the Word document will have to do the same thing, adding complexity and steps for everyone. If I embed the Powerpoint slide in the document, I can edit the controls, but they don't scale the same way and takes a lot of work.

• Reinstall of Microsoft Office 2010 beta isn't prompting me for upgrade vs. side-by-side installation

  I'm running Office 2007 on Windows 7. When I ran the Microsoft Office 2010 beta installation, it asked if I wanted to upgrade the existing 2007 installation or install along side 2007. I later uninstalled 2010 and rebooted. When I re-ran the Office 2010 setup program, it no longer asked if I wanted to upgrade or install side by side. It just did a side by side install by default. How can I get it to re-prompt me, as I'd now like to upgrade my 2007 install.

• Quickbooks 2009 2010

  I have configured my bank account within quickbooks to import bank statements. I have wxported the bank statement. Then used the convert process available within QB to convert. The file name shows the bsb then some other figures and then the account number. However it will not import. I am wondering how ot make this work. Can I change the file name to match my QB account details and thus enable the importing. This is a technical question. Many thanks Bronwyn

• Trouble installing Windows Embedded Standard 2009

System error code: 5 Code 5 looks to be an "Access denied" issue. Not sure if this is a generic Windows error, or specific to this install. Any insight is appreciated! -Tim

• Open excel 2007 excel files and save as 97-2003 formats in VBA

  I have a weird situation where I have a set of excel files, all having the extension .xls., in a directory where I can open all of them just fine in Excel 2007. The odd thing is that I cannot open them in Excel 2003, on the same machine, without opening the file first in 2007 and going and saving the file as an "Excel 97-2003 Workbook". Before I save the file as an "Excel 97-2003 Workbook" from Excel 2007, when I open the excel files in 2003 I get the error that the file is not in a recognizable format. So my question is: if I already have the excel file opened in 2007 and I already have the file name of the open file stored in a variable, programatically how can I mimic the action of going up to the "office button" in the upper right and selecting, "save as" and then selecting "Excel 97-2003 Workbook"? I've tried something like the below but it does not save the file at all: ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs TempFilePath & TempFileName & ".xls", FileFormat:=56 Thanks for any help or guidance!

  Hello, I just installed MOSS 2007 and configure it on a machine. The machine is not in a domain. When I try to create a new document in my document library (Server is on a remote location and my laptop is not a part of the domain), MS Word 2007 opens, asks me for login credentials 3 times and then disappears leaving me with a new blank word document. Is there any way to enable remote access of MOSS 2007 documents? Thanks :)

• Rights Expiry Options in IRM 11g

  Among the many enhancements in IRM 11g, we have introduced a couple of new rights expiry options that may be applied to any role. These options were supported in previous versions, but fell into the "advanced configuration" category. In 11g, the options can be applied simply by selecting a check-box in the properties of a role, as shown by the rather extreme example below, where the role allows access for just two minutes after they are sealed. The new options are: To define a role that expires automatically some period after it is assigned To define a role that evaluates expiry relative to the time that each document is sealed These options supplement the familiar options to allow open-ended access (limited by offline access and the ever-present option to revoke rights at any time) and the option to define time windows with specific start dates and end dates. The value of these options is easiest to illustrate with some publishing examples: You might define a role with a one year expiry to be assigned to users who purchase a one year subscription. For each individual user, the year would be calculated from the time that the role was assigned to them. You might define a role that allows documents to be accessed only for 24 hours from the time that they are published - perhaps as a preview mechanism designed to tempt users to sign up for a full subscription. Upon payment of a full fee, users can simply be reassigned a role that gives them greater access to exactly the same documents. In a corporate environment, you might use such roles for fixed term contractors or for workflows that involve information with a short lifespan, or perhaps as part of a compliance process that requires rights to be formally re-approved at intervals. Being role-based, the time constraints apply to any number of documents - including documents that have not yet been created. For example, a user with a one year subscription would have access to all documents published in the relevant classification during the year without any further configuration. Crucially, unlike other solutions, it is not the documents that expire, but the rights of particular users. Whereas some solutions make documents completely inaccessible for all users after expiry, Oracle IRM can allow some users to continue using documents while other users lose access. Equally crucially, a user whose rights have expired can always be granted fresh rights at any time - for example, because they renew their subscription or because a manager confirms that they still need the rights as part of a corporate compliance process. By applying expiry to rights rather than to documents, Oracle IRM avoids the risk of locking an organization out of its own information.

  I had the question today of whether SharePoint 2010 supports workflow on multiple items, since Groove's workflow apparently supported multiple items and that model disappeared when Groove Workspaces were amalgamated into SharePoint Sites and SharePoint Workspace (the client utility). It's a great question, the short answer is that yes, it's possible.
