    I have a realty website that needs a payment gateway for their property reservation. The reservation fee range from $500-$600 and about 5-6 people per month. I was wondering if Paypal is the best solution for accepting Payment. What will be the Pros and Cons using Paypal. Paypal was my first choice because It's easy to integrate on my existing website and I wouldn't be minding so much on the security. P.S. It's not a part of the question, But If you can site some realty website that accept payment and would be a good inspiration. It would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

    we are trying to integrate a simple Video Conferencing (open source) solution into our existing application which is written in C++ and it runs on Linux. I am currently looking at using Ekiga (formely known as GnomeMeeting) or Homer Conferencing (short: Homer). My plan is to "integrate" an existing Video Conferencing client into our existing software. Please give me recommendation on which 3rd party application or library to use to add video conferencing feature to our application. PS: Please don't close this question. I asked it on StackOverflow and it got closed, so where am I supposed to ask this question? If not here, then whats the point of asking lol.

    We all know the story of the personal computer as a consumer-oriented product. But I just thought that real end user solution should have appeared before that time. So a product that was probably expensive, but allowed using it as a service charging for it, for example computer-terminal for transport time-table access or game machine. On the other site, the video terminals as we know them appeared not so long ago. So if there was something like this, this could be hardware/software most likely offering no interactivity, but probably printing some information based on user actions.

    I have been using Awstats for many years to process my log files. But I am missing many possibilities (like cross-domain reports) and I hate being stuck with extra fields I created years ago. Anyway, I am not going to continue to use this script. Is there a modern apache logs analytics solution based on modern storage technologies like NoSQL or at least somehow ready to cope with large datasets efficiently? I am primarily looking for something that generates nice sortable and searchable outputs with the focus on web analytics, before having to write my own frontends. (so graylog2 is not an option) This question is purely about log file based solutions.

  • Is a finite state machine an appropriate solution for this situation?

    I was writing some test code as an example where I had a washing machine class. It has a door state that should be open or closed, and also a running state, either on or off. I want to prevent the running state from changing from 'off' to 'on' when the door is 'open', and also prevent the door from being set to 'open' while the machine is 'on'. I have this functionality rigged up with a bunch of if statements. It feels inelegant and it could quickly turn into spaghetti code if I want to add another state that puts additional conditions on the changes of other states. I wonder, is a finite state machine a solution for this situation? Would it simplify adding states and defining valid transitions?

    My client often has several projects/tasks going at once that sometimes need to be tested simultaneously on one website. They are often separate applications on the website, but sometimes share UDFs, etc. We currently have 3 public-facing environment websites - i.e. dev.website.com, test.website.com, and www.website.com. As the programmer, I'm trying to find a good solution to allow for UA testing of multiple projects/tasks at once. Currently, I'm finding myself switching between code branches (using SubVersion).     I think most of us, programmers, used Stack Overflow to solve every day problems: looked for an efficient algorithm to do something. Now imagine a situation: you have a problem to solve. Googled a bit, found a StackOverflow question but you are not really satisfied with the answers so far. So you have to do your own research: you need to do it because you want it in the company's app. Eventually after some hours you have found the better solution. You're happy, you added it to the company's code base, then you want to submit your answer with a code snippet (just several lines) to the question you've found before to help others too. But wait: the company's software is closed source, and you worked on it on the clock. So does this mean I shouldn't post the answer neither at work nor at home to that question in the rest of my life, because I solved it at work, and the company owns that piece of code?

    What is the preferred method of refreshing a combo box when the data changes? If a form is open and the combo box data is already loaded, how do you refresh the contents of the combo box without the form having to be closed and reloaded? Do you have to do something on the Click event on the combo box? This would seem to be a potential slow down for the app if there is a hit to the database every time someone clicks on a combo box.
