  • Thinking Sphinx with Rails - Delta indexing seems to work fine for one model but not for the other

    - by hack3r
I have 2 models User and Discussion. I have defined the indices for the models as below: For the User model: define_index do indexes email indexes first_name indexes last_name, :sortable => true indexes groups(:name), :as => :group_names has "IF(email_confirmed = true and status = 'approved', true, false)", :as => :approved_user, :type => :boolean has "IF(email_confirmed = true and (status = 'approved' or status='blocked'), true, false)", :as => :approved_or_blocked_user, :type => :boolean has points, :type => :integer has created_at, :type => :datetime has user(:id) set_property :delta => true end For the Discussion model: define_index do indexes title indexes description indexes category(:title), :as => :category_title indexes tags(:title), :as => :tag_title has "IF(publish_to_blog = true AND sticky = false, true, false)", :as => :publish_to_main, :type => :boolean has created_at has updated_at, :type => :datetime has recent_activity_at, :type => :datetime has views_count, :type => :integer has featured has publish_to_blog has sticky set_property :delta => true end I have added a delta column to both tables as per the documentation. My problem is that delta indexing works only for the Discussion model and not for the User model. For ex: When I update the 'title' of a discussion, I can see the thinking sphinx is rotating the indices etc. (as is evident from the logs). But when I update the 'first_name' or the 'last_name' of a user, nothing happens. The User model also has a has_many :through association through a model called GroupsUser. I have setup a after_save on the GroupsUser as follows: def set_user_delta_flag user.delta = true user.save end Even this doesn't seem to trigger delta indexing on the User model. A similar setup for the Discussion model works perfectly! Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

  • How to resolve high CPU + excessive stat("/etc/localtime") and clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME) calls

    - by Yemster
I've been experiencing really high CPU on a ruby on rails app (see stack below) and have been trying to diagnose the possible causes to no avail. Stack: ruby 1.9.3 rails 3.2.6 Apache/2.2.21 (Debian) Phusion Passenger 3.0.11 Whenever I run strace against the spiking Rack process PID (see Top excerpt below), I am seeing a tonne of stat("/etc/localtime") and clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME) calls and have no idea how to stop these. Content of my /etc/localtime: TZif2UTCTZif2UTC UTC0 Have tried the recommended fix for the leapsecond bug: date -s 'date' No joy so far. I'm fresh out of ideas so any help/advice on how to diagnose or resolve would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to pass form errors in session or flash? [Rails 2.3.5]

    - by yuval
I have a create action for a form that potentially generates errors (i.e. first name is missing) and then redirects. The problem is, that when the redirect happens those form errors get lost. How could I pass those form errors in a session to be displayed back in the original form (which should still be filled out with the previous details, as in the original error_messages behavior)? Thanks!

  • What's a good plugin or guide I can use to create javascript widgets from a Rails App?

    - by nicosuria
I've been looking around for a while now and the best guide I've seen so far is Dr Nic's DIY widgets how to (here). I haven't been able to make something like this work: Assuming this is my widget code: <script src="http://mysite/nomnoms.js"> </script> And my nomnoms controller looks like (assume that the list partial exists and simply lists down a link to the show page of each nomnom in the @nomnoms variable): class NomnomsController < ApplicationController def index @nomnoms = Nomnom.find(:all) @content = render_to_string(:partial => 'list') end end And in the index.js of my nomnoms_controller I have: page << "document.write('<div>'" page << "document.write('#{@content.to_json}')" page << "</div>" The above setup doesn't render anything :(. But when I change the second line of index.js to: page << "document.write('nomnoms should be here') ...the widget renders the text. Any help or even a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • rails - when using Group_by - How to get an Index?

    - by AnApprentice
    I have the following: sets = DataSet.all.group_by{ |data| [data.project_id, "-", data.thread_id].join(" ") } <% sets.each do |range, datas| %> <p><%= range %>:</p> <% datas.each do |data| %> <%=data%> <p>Last Post<%= data.last.created_at %></p> <% end %> <% end %> Problem is that I need an index. So i updated the above with: <% sets.each_with_index do |range, datas, i| %> <p><%= range %>:</p> <% datas.each do |data| %> <%= i %> <%=data%> <p>Last Post<%= data.last.created_at %></p> <% end %> <% end %> That then breaks, with the error: undefined method `last' for 0:Fixnum Ideas? thank you

  • Java Script in Rails 3.1 works only in certain parts. Any idea why?

    - by Sergio Nekora
This might seem a bit weird, but since I am new in RoR and cannot find any similar questions I thought you might know. The situation is that JavaScript does not work throughout my whole site. For instance. For the sake of checking, I place a link with an alert function in the footer. It did not work at the beginning, it felt like the JS was disabled(but it wasn't). But eventually it worked. Now it works in most the pages but it does not work in one that there is also an 'autocomplete' field. Of course, this autocomplete field does not work either. That could lead you to think that there is something wrong with the autocomplete code. However this same code is working in the sidebar. Any ideas why? Could it have anything to do with the fact that one day my assets folder appeared empty? After installing the gmaps4rails gem I realized that all my Js and CSS files were gone from my assests folder. Ok, it might have happened long before and I just realized at that point. I don't really know. Here in the root you can see that the 'Hola sip' click at the button works. here it works However, here same link does not trigger the alert function. here it doesn't

  • Why rails app is redirecting unexpectedly instead of matching the route?

    - by ruevaughn
I asked this question earlier and thought it was fixed, but it's not. Previous question here My problem is I am trying to set my routes so that when I type in localhost:3000/sites/admin It should redirect to localhost:3000/en/sites/admin here is my routes.rb file scope ":locale", locale: /#{I18n.available_locales.join("|")}/ do get "log_out" => "sessions#destroy", as: "log_out" get "log_in" => "sessions#new", as: "log_in" resources :sites, except: [:new, :edit, :index, :show, :update, :destroy, :create] do collection do get :home get :about_us get :faq get :discounts get :services get :contact_us get :admin get :posts end end resources :users resources :abouts resources :sessions resources :coupons resources :monthly_posts resources :reviews resources :categories do collection { post :sort } resources :children, :controller => :categories, :only => [:index, :new, :create, :new_subcategory] end resources :products do member do put :move_up put :move_down end end resources :faqs do collection { post :sort } end root :to => 'sites#home' match "/savesort" => 'sites#savesort' end match '', to: redirect("/#{I18n.default_locale}") match '*path', to: redirect("/#{I18n.default_locale}/%{path}") But as of right now, it redirects to /en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/sites/admin (adds en until browser complains). Any thoughts why it keeps adding /en?

  • Using routing (?) to make GET request in Rails so ID doesn't show

    - by ale
I have a link in one view myapp/locations that goes to myapp/statistics?id=1 (statistics for location with ID 1) which works fine but it doesn't look pretty. I think I've seen people do this sort of thing without needing the ?id=1? I could use a POST but this is not RESTful. Is there a way I can use routing to allow the user to go to myapp/statistics?id=1 but have the user see myapp/statistics? Many thanks.

  • Rails - Rendering a Partial without having to use "_" in front of the filename?

    - by bluedevil2k
How do I render a partial without having to supply the "_" in front of the file name? Is there a parameter I can call to not use it? This problem popped up using RABL and Backbone - using RABL requires me to have a file in my views like "index.json.rabl". But, when I use embed the JSON right on the page load (as is usual with Backbone), I'm required to call the file "index.json.rabl". These 2 files are the exact same thing, just required to have different names. I'm looking to use just 1 file, "index.json.rabl" and force the render() function to look for that file name, without the "".

  • Rails - Always have to check exists, and then value?

    - by Jason B
I am checking to see if a value in a related table exists quite often in my view, in this case, expenses have approvals. If they have not been submitted, then there is no record of them in the approvals table. I am ending up with some really awkward code <% if !expense_item.expense_approval || expense_item.expense_approval.approval_status == 0 %> Is there a way to do an if statement on a value, without having to check if it exists first? Or some default way to set it nil?

  • Recommended way to test ActiveRecord associations?

    - by Sugerman
I have written my basic models and defined their associations as well as the migrations to create the associated tables. I want to be able to test: The associations are configured as intended The table structures support the associations properly I've written FG factories for all of my models in anticipation of having a complete set of test data but I can't grasp how to write a spec to test both belongs_to and has_many associations. For example, given an Organization that has_many Users I want to be able to test that my sample Organization has a reference to my sample User. Organization_Factory.rb: Factory.define :boardofrec, :class => 'Organization' do |o| o.name 'Board of Recreation' o.address '115 Main Street' o.city 'Smallville' o.state 'New Jersey' o.zip '01929' end Factory.define :boardofrec_with_users, :parent => :boardofrec do |o| o.after_create do |org| org.users = [Factory.create(:johnny, :organization => org)] end end User_Factory.rb: Factory.define :johnny, :class => 'User' do |u| u.name 'Johnny B. Badd' u.email '[email protected]' u.password 'password' u.org_admin true u.site_admin false u.association :organization, :factory => :boardofrec end Organization_spec.rb: ... it "should have the user Johnny B. Badd" do boardofrec_with_users = Factory.create(:boardofrec_with_users) boardofrec_with_users.users.should include(Factory.create(:johnny)) end ... This example fails because the Organization.users list and the comparison User :johnny are separate instances of the same Factory. I realize this doesn't follow the BDD ideas behind what these plugins (FG, rspec) seemed to be geared for but seeing as this is my first rails application I'm uncomfortable moving forward without knowing that I've configured my associations and table structures properly.

  • How can I override the attribute assignment in an active record object?

    - by ryeguy
I know you can do this with virtual attributes, but what if the column actually exists? For example, my model has a raw_topic column. When raw_topic is set, I want artist and song_title to be set based off of raw_topic's contents. Ideally, I'd like to override the raw_topic= method, but rails doesn't seem to like that. What's the proper way of doing this? Is a callback the only way?

    - by ryeguy
What is the more "rails-like"? If I want to modify a model's property when it's set, should I do this: def url=(url) #remove session id self[:url] = url.split('?s=')[0] end or this? before_save do |record| #remove session id record.url = record.url.split('?s=')[0] end Is there any benefit for doing it one way or the other? If so, why? If not, which one is generally more common?
