• Actionscript NetStream.play drops port in relative URLs

  Hi, the current page my flash application is running from is http://localhost:3000/. I'm trying to play a video using NetStream.play(relativeURL) by using a relative URL (e.g. "myVideo.flv"), but when I look at the actual request made by actionscript, it's dropping the port number. (e.g. http://localhost/myVideo.flv). Is there something I can do on the flash side to make this work? Is anyone else having this problem?

I tried using a relative path, but not able to get it to work. <% if FileTest.exist?( "/" + @imagename ) % any help appreciated.

• VirtualBox guest not recognizing daylight savings transition

  I want to test an app's behaviour during transitions in and out of daylight savings time. I therefore want to be able to set the date and time of a VirtualBox VM, (preferably from the Control Panel applet, but from a batch file is fine) and not have it "corrected" to the host's time for me. I have turned of Internet sync in the guest and that seems to have achieved this, so I wrote a couple of batch files to set the date to a value just prior to the time of transition in and out of daylight savings time. The VirtualBox guest doesn't seem to recognize the daylight savings changeover date - it just marches on past with no change of time, no message (yes - "Adjust clock for daylight savings" is enabled). Any ideas?

  I have a project where I'm loading relative image Uri's from an xml file. I'm loading the image like this: if (child.Name == "photo" && child.Attributes["href"] != null && File.Exists(child.Attributes["href"].Value)) { Image image = new Image(); image.Source = new BitmapImage(new Uri(child.Attributes["href"].Value, UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute)); images.Add(image); } Where the "child" object is an XmlNode which could looks like this <photo name="info" href="Resources\Content\test.png"/> During debug it seemd images is filled with actual images but when I want to see them in any way it shows nothing. Weird thing is when I include the images in my project it does work, I however dont want to do that since my point for using an xml file is so that it would be lost since you'd have to rebuild the program anyway after a change.

• Python ctypes: loading DLL from from a relative path

  I have a Python module, wrapper.py, that wraps a C DLL. The DLL lies in the same folder as the module. Therefore, I use the following code to load it: myDll = ctypes.CDLL("MyCDLL.dll") This works if I execute wrapper.py from its own folder. If, however, I run it from elsewhere, ctypes goes looking for DLL in the current working directory and naturally fails. My question is, is there a way by which I can specify the DLL's path relative to the wrapper instead of the current working directory? This will enable me to ship the two together and allow the user to run/import the wrapper from anywhere.

I have a date, that is converted to mm-dd-yyyy when posting it to mysql i have re-ordered it to yyyy-mm-dd but yet it still will not insert $date = date("Y-m-d", strtotime($_POST['leaving_date']) ); any advice? • How do I calculate someone's age in Java?

  I want to return an age in years as an int in a Java method. What I have now is the following where getBirthDate() returns a Date object (with the birth date ;-)): public int getAge() { long ageInMillis = new Date().getTime() - getBirthDate().getTime(); Date age = new Date(ageInMillis); return age.getYear(); } But since getYear() is deprecated I'm wondering if there is a better way to do this? I'm not even sure this works correctly, since I have no unit tests in place (yet).

• Overlapping divs, absolutely relative?

  A wordpress theme I'm working on has headlines which span across the entire content area. These headlines are overlapped by the sidebar which is absolutely positioned at 100% width. The issue, is when the sidebar's content exceeds the page's content, it stretches OUT of my wrapper overtop of the footer without forcing the it down (because it's absolute and nothing else is). So my question is, how would it be possible to make a absolutely positioned div, become relative and essentially "push" my footer down, or is there a better way to do this? Also, if anyone has examples of how this has been done would be awesome! edit: The sidebar is absolutely positioned so it can lay over top of the sidebar. • Retrieving Gtk::Widget's relative position: get_allocate() doesn't work

  I need to retrieve the position of a Gtk::Widget relative to its parent, a Gtk::Table. Most sources (e.g. http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk-faq/stable/x642.html) say that one needs to call Gtk::Widget::get_allocation(). However, the returned Gtk::Allocation object always contains x = -1, y = -1, width = 1, height = 1. I have to note that this happens before the Gtk::Table object is actually exposed and rendered. A call to show_all_children() or check_resize(), which I would expect to recalculate child widget geometry, doesn't help. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

• Searching for URL's Relative to Site Root in Javascript Source

  Hi, I am working on a web site with several other developers and we have had problems where people commit JavaScript code with AJAX calls that use URL's relative to the site root. An example would be /Home/Index which will not work if the site is hosted in a virtual directory. To get round the problem we use a $.url() method to convert it to a full path, e.g. $("#container").load($.url("/Home/Index")) I am trying to write a unit test that will search each JavaScript file and find places where the $.url method is not being used. The only problem is that I cannot seem to write a regex expression to do this. I have tried the following: (?!\$\.url\()"(/\w*)+" But this does not work. I cannot find a way to say that I don't want the $.url in front. Does anyone know if this is possible? Note that I need regular expressions that are compatible with .NET Thanks.

  If I have relative probabilities of events A, B, C occurring. i.e P(A) = 0.45, P(B) = 0.35, P(C) = 0.20, How do I do represent this using a random number generator between 0 and 1? i.e. R = rand(0,1) if (R < 0.45) event A else if(R < 0.35) event B else if(R < 0.20) event C The above works for two events A,B but I think the above is wrong for three or more since there is overlapping. This is obviously a very simple question and the answer should be immediately evident, but I'm just too stupid to see it.

  Given a list of (say) songs, what's the best way to determine their relative "popularity"? My first thought is to use Google Trends. This list of songs: Subterranean Homesick Blues Empire State of Mind California Gurls produces the following Google Trends report: (to find out what's popular now, I restricted the report to the last 30 days) Empire State of Mind is marginally more popular than California Gurls, and Subterranean Homesick Blues is far less popular than either. So this works pretty well, but what happens when your list is 100 or 1000 songs long? Google Trends only allows you to compare 5 terms at once, so absent a huge round-robin, what's the right approach? Another option is to just do a Google Search for each song and see which has the most results, but this doesn't really measure the same thing

  Hi, I have a report in report services 2005 that has two date fields. The problem is that if users run this for a large section of time it uses too much resources on our server. It is possible to only allow the end user to enter the start date and then the end date be auto populated/derived from this field (for example they enter the 1st of a month and this automatically change the end date to the last of a month.)

  Ok this is an extension of a question I asked about earlier yet this is the next step that is unclear to me. Everything else will be ready and this part is driving me mad! some members provided great help and I already made progress with that info, but this is just another obstacle. I am creating a booking object (as was suggested) that will have a start date and end date. each booking will also have a number of seats associated with it (that I require to reserve). The total available number of seats any given day 46 (as the total capacity of the hall is 46 seats). so in assumption that I have a booking to be made in the system, and start date is 1st jan and end date is 10th jan. The question is how can I check the remaining seats in all those days between the range to see if requested number could be hosted or not? and then when the second booking is made, it will have to see that the days in this range already have less than 46 and decrement further if possible to host the reservation. one of the members, and I appreciate his effort, gladly contributed a method to compare if this booking is after or before the existing bookings. • Sysprep and Capture task sequence failing using MDT 2010

  I have created a Windows Deployment Services server in Windows 2008 R2. When I originally set it up I was able to successfully use MDT 2010 to create my boot images as well as creating task sequences that would sysprep and capture, and deploy my custom .wim files. Everything was working perfectly. About a month later I boot up my Windows 7 x86 image and run Windows updates to keep my image up to date. I then go and run my sysprep and capture task sequence and I get the following errors: I searched online for the cause of this error message and it just seems to be a generic permission denied type of error message. I then decided to completely rebuild my VM image from scratch and try again. I am still getting the same error messages as before. The following is what I have tried troubleshooting this issue: Troubleshooting: I have ensured that that UAC and the firewall is turned completely off when trying to capture the image. I have tried recreating the task sequence and making sure that the deployment share is updated. I have ensured that the local Administrator account is enabled and has the same password as specified in the task sequence. I have tried joining the computer to the domain and running the task sequence and I get a different error: I have attempted to run the script from the command prompt with "Run as Administrator" and I still receive the same errors above. For testing purposes I have ensured that Everyone has read/write access to my deployment share. I have spent days on trying to resolve this to no avail. Any ideas? • Is there a constant for "end of time"?

  For some systems, the time value 9999-12-31 is used as the "end of time" as the end of the time that the computer can calculate. But what if it changes? Wouldn't it be better to define this time as a builtin variable? In C and other programming languages there usually is a variable such as MAX_INT or similar to get the largest value an integer could have. Why is there not a similar function for MAX_TIME i.e. set the variable to the "end of time" which for many systems usually is 9999-12-31. To avoid the problem of hardcoding to a wrong year (9999) could these systems introduce a variable for the "end of time"?

• Data Model Dissonance

  So often at the start of the development of database applications, there is a premature rush to the keyboard. Unless, before we get there, we’ve mapped out and agreed the three data models, the Conceptual, the Logical and the Physical, then the inevitable refactoring will dog development work. It pays to get the data models sorted out up-front, however ‘agile’ you profess to be. The hardest model to get right, the most misunderstood, and the one most neglected by the various modeling tools, is the conceptual data model, and yet it is critical to all that follows. The conceptual model distils what the business understands about itself, and the way it operates. It represents the business rules that govern the required data, its constraints and its properties. The conceptual model uses the terminology of the business and defines the most important entities and their inter-relationships. Don’t assume that the organization’s understanding of these business rules is consistent or accurate. Too often, one department has a subtly different understanding of what an entity means and what it stores, from another. If our conceptual data model fails to resolve such inconsistencies, it will reduce data quality. If we don’t collect and measure the raw data in a consistent way across the whole business, how can we hope to perform meaningful aggregation? The conceptual data model has more to do with business than technology, and as such, developers often regard it as a worthy but rather arcane ceremony like saluting the flag or only eating fish on Friday. However, the consequences of getting it wrong have a direct and painful impact on many aspects of the project. If you adopt a silo-based (a.k.a. Domain driven) approach to development), you are still likely to suffer by starting with an incomplete knowledge of the domain. Even when you have surmounted these problems so that the data entities accurately reflect the business domain that the application represents, there are likely to be dire consequences from abandoning the goal of a shared, enterprise-wide understanding of the business. In reading this, you may recall experiences of the consequence of getting the conceptual data model wrong. I believe that Phil Factor, for example, witnessed the abandonment of a multi-million dollar banking project due to an inadequate conceptual analysis of how the bank defined a ‘customer’.
