  • Internet Explorer randomly drops sessions between pages in cakePHP

    Hello everyone, I've come across an extremely unusual bug that my team has literally no idea how to solve. Doing some research, I found some similar solutions that I thought would work, but alas did not. Here is my situation, let me know if I can provide additional insight to help solve the problem. The first step is that someone chooses a country via a flash map. Flash passes this region name (as well as a date) through the URL, which we then convert to a session. The next page contains no Flash and doesn't display the selected region, but it does hold on to it for further down the process. Everything works perfectly in Safari and Firefox; however, in IE sometimes unexpected results occur. Frequently (but not always), the session is dropped completely and no sessions are stored between the first and 2nd pages. Here are the steps that I have taken thus far, unsuccessfully: 1. Changed Security from Medium - Low 2. Changed CheckUserAgent from True - False 3. Changed storing of sessions from PHP - Database Some additional information that may be useful: I have tried printing out the session data in Debug (debug($_SESSION) on my view file and debug set to 2 in config). In Internet Explorer everything prints out as expected EXCEPT when the region and date don't get set. For example: If the region and date don't get set NOTHING is printed out for debug. I don't get the session details at the top, and I don't get the normal dump of calls at the bottom of the page either. I am not using redirection on these pages. Please let me know if you have ANY idea of what is causing this or any solutions. I am beyond frustrated and have tried as much as I can to solve this. Thanks!

  • Can I share my cable internet connection through my ADSL wireless router?

    Hi All Over the xmas period I am at my in-laws. They have Virgin Broadband (cable) and have a basic modem / router that is plugged directly into their computer using an ethernet cable. My wife and I arrived with 5 PCs! (ok, one is a gift and won't be used) 4 of which are laptops so I would like to be able to use their internet connection. At the moment I am working so have plugged the ethernet cable into my work laptop. Rebooting the router meant that my work laptop now has internet. I have my ADSL Netgear router which is wireless. I tried plugging it in between the router and the PC but I didn't seem to be able to share the internet connection wirelessly. The original PC still had internet despite ony being connected to my router but my wireless laptop didn't have a connection. My old cable router had an internet ethernet port on the back that the modem plugged into. My ADSL router doesn't, it has a phone connection socket. Is there a way of doing what I want with the equipment I have? Thanks

  • Session variables not getting set but only in Internet Explorer and not on all machines

    Logging into a site I'm working on functions as expected on my local machine but fails on the remote server but ONLY in Internet Explorer. The kicker is that it works in IE locally, just not on the remote machine. What in the world could cause this? I have stepped through the code on the remote machine and can see the entered login values being checked in the database, they are found and then a login function is called. This sets two $_SESSION variables and redirects to the main admin page. However, in IE only (and not when run on local machine... this is key) the $_SESSION variables are not present by the time you get to the main admin page. var_dump($_SESSION) gives me what I expect on every browser when I am running this in my local environment and in every browser except IE 6, 7 and 8 when run on the remote server (where I get a null value as if nothing has been set for $_SESSION). This really has me stumped so any advice is appreciated. For an example... in IE, run locally, var_dump gives me: array 'Username' => string 'theusername' length=11 'UserID' => string 'somevalue' length=9 Run on the remote server (IE only... works fine in other browsers) var_dump gives me: array(0){} Code: $User = GetUser($Username, $Password); if ($User->UserID <> "") { // this works so we call Login()...   • Array indexOf implementation for Internet Explorer

    There are plenty of solutions on how to get the indexOf implementation into the Array prototype so that it works under Internet Explorer, however I've stumbled upon an issue that doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere I've looked so far. Using the pretty well agreed upon implementation at MDC, I have the following code that's being problematic now: // indexOf support for IE (from MDC) if (!Array.prototype.indexOf) { Array.prototype.indexOf = function(elt /*, from*/) { var len = this.length >>> 0; var from = Number(arguments[1]) || 0; from = (from < 0) ?   • How do I prevent internet access to a group of computers on my network?

    Well I have the following setup... Computer A , B and C are networked.... Computer A is connected to the internet, computer B and C are not setup for internet access currently but I guess its possible with some kind of setting they would eventually be able to access the internet and this is what I would like to prevent. In summary only A should have internet access while A and B and C should still be on intranet. Is this kind of config possible?, what kind of software or setup or tools would I need to achive this?

  • Cookie blocked/not saved in IFRAME in Internet Explorer

    I have two websites, let's say they're example.com and anotherexample.net. On anotherexample.net/page.html, I have an IFRAME SRC="http://example.com/someform.asp". That IFRAME displays a form for the user to fill out and submit to http://example.com/process.asp. When I open the form ("someform.asp") in its own browser window, all works well. However, when I load someform.asp as an IFRAME in IE 6 or IE 7, the cookies for example.com are not saved. In Firefox this problem doesn't appear. For testing purposes, I've created a similar setup on http://newmoon.wz.cz/test/page.php . example.com uses cookie-based sessions (and there's nothing I can do about that), so without cookies, process.asp won't execute. How do I force IE to save those cookies? Results of sniffing the HTTP traffic: on GET /someform.asp response, there's a valid per-session Set-Cookie header (e.g. Set-Cookie: ASPKSJIUIUGF=JKHJUHVGFYTTYFY), but on POST /process.asp request, there is no Cookie header at all. Edit3: some AJAX+serverside scripting is apparently capable to sidestep the problem, but that looks very much like a bug, plus it opens a whole new set of security holes. I don't want my applications to use a combination of bug+security hole just because it's easy. Edit: the P3P policy was the root cause, full explanation below.

    On http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/net/URL.html it states that: Compares this URL for equality with another object. If the given object is not a URL then this method immediately returns false. Two URL objects are equal if they have the same protocol, reference equivalent hosts, have the same port number on the host, and the same file and fragment of the file. Two hosts are considered equivalent if both host names can be resolved into the same IP addresses; else if either host name can't be resolved, the host names must be equal without regard to case; or both host names equal to null. Since hosts comparison requires name resolution, this operation is a blocking operation. Note: The defined behavior for equals is known to be inconsistent with virtual hosting in HTTP. According to this, equals will only work if name resolution is possible. Since I can't be sure that a computer has internet access at a given time, should I just use Strings to store addresses instead? Also, how do I go about testing if access is available when requested?

The iPad is unable to connect to the public url for the exchange server on the server (www.example.com) and has erratic internet access, where Windows laptops are provided with faultless internet access, even when they are not a member of the domain. How do I solve this?

    Why does the Internet WI-FI connection of my laptop disconnect when I connect the ethernet cable to the LAN? These are two separate networks, the LAN is without Internet, I just use it to connect the tablet to the laptop and smart phone in my home network. The WI-FI is owned by the landlady and connects to the Internet. I know it should be possible to be connected both to the Internet through WI-FI and to my other computers and gadgets through the LAN because sometimes it works, but sometimes when I connect the ethernet cable the WI-FI disconnects and I wonder why?   • Why is Windows Update telling me to install Internet Explorer 10 even though it is already installed?

    I have a Windows 7 laptop. For some reason, Windows Update keeps telling me to install Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 even though it is already installed (downloaded from Microsoft website). Whenever I try and install it from Windows Update in order to get rid of it, I receive error 9C48. What is the problem and how do I solve it? (I've noticed several entries for similar problems online, but those are all for Internet Explorer 9). As I said in the comments, my system keeps trying to install the same update when it is shutting down, only failing with the same error. It is hogging my shut down button and wasting time during shutdown. Update: I just went and installed Internet Explorer 11 from the Windows website. However, Windows Update continues to offer me Internet Explorer 10. How can I tell it that the update is in fact installed so that it instead starts offering me updates?

  • Why "Content-Length: 0" in POST requests?

    A customer sometimes sends POST requests with Content-Length: 0 when submitting a form (10 to over 40 fields). We tested it with different browsers and from different locations but couldn't reproduce the error. The customer is using Internet Explorer 7 and a proxy. We asked them to let their system administrator see into the problem from their side. Running some tests without the proxy, etc.. In the meantime (half a year later and still no answer) I'm curious if somebody else knows of similar problems with a Content-Length: 0 request. Maybe from inside some Windows network with a special proxy for big companies. Is there a known problem with Internet Explorer 7? With a proxy system? The Windows network itself? Google only showed something in the context of NTLM (and such) authentication, but we aren't using this in the web application. Maybe it's in the way the proxy operates in the customer's network with Windows logins? (I'm no Windows expert. Just guessing.) I have no further information about the infrastructure.

  • "Permission denied" with Internet Explorer and jQuery

    I try to do an AJAX call with jQuery and $.post in Internet Explorer, but all I get is an error saying "Permission denied". The problem is kinda weird since it occurs only when I access a page after I was on any other page. For instance I type the URL in the adress line and let IE load the page. Then I click on a button so the script should start loading JSON data. (The script providing the data lies on the same server and I access it with a relative URL, so using a different domain is not the problem here. Even tried to use a absolute URL with the same host part.) But when I refresh the page then and try it again it works! Same thing when I come to that page from another page. At first nothing works, but when I click "refresh" everything is fine. IE gives me the error message "Permission denied" while in every other browser I don't notice this behaviour. Since I have tried many things and still cannot imagine where the problem lies I'd like to ask you what you think the problem might be?

I know about one such great tool - that is "Comodo firewall". It can smoothly block and accurately display apps accessing internet. The only problem of installing this is, Windows recommends only one firewall apps and as Im running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate there will be complications if I install this one. I need a tool which can accurately display which apps are accessing internet (through which port) and how much data they are receiving or sending. I also need some arrangement within the app so that I can easily temporarily block that app from accessing internet.

Bring Back the Internet Explorer Namespace Icon in Windows 7 the Easy Way If you just want the IE icon back, all you need to do is download the RealInternetExplorerIcon.zip file, extract the contents, and then double-click on the w7_ie_icon_restore.reg file. That’s all you have to do. There’s also an undo registry file there if you want to get rid of it.   • Internet Explorer loop bug when preloading images

    Hi Everyone I have created a JavaScript application that requires all images to be preloaded first. Everything works fine in Firefox but in Internet Explorer my loop skips the count at 19 and goes to 21. Has anyone come across this problem before and what causes it? The left- and rightmost cells (A1 and C1) must be 7px wide, and the middle cell (B1) must scale according to the width of the table. The same goes for the bottom row (A3, B3, C3). The middle row, however, needs to scale in height - in other words, it needs to be (tableheight - 14px). The left- and rightmost cells (A2, C2) need to be 7 pixels wide. I have the following DOCTYPE: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> I need to keep this, as some other elements on the page rely on some complex CSS-based layouts. Can anyone point me in the right direction to whip this into shape for IE? EDIT: Should have mentioned earlier - this table is resized on the fly using javascript.
