  • Exclude certain files or directories from redirected folders

    - by jao
We have a windows 2003 AD and are using Folder redirection to redirect the users My Documents to a share. Is there a way to save certain filetypes (*.mp3, *.avi) or folders (My Music, My Pictures) on the user's hard disk instead of saving on the netwerk share? I'm aware of the GPO setting 'Exclude directories in roaming profile' but I'm not sure if that will do what I want (we're using redirected folders)

  • Is there a way to programatically set the printer properties in windows ?

    - by panzerschreck
Hello, As a paper saving drive throughout the organization, we plan to set 2 page printing as default setting on all the windows machines. I would like to contribute to this by writing a small script that can do that for all the machines, maybe send an email to all the users, and let them run the batch file. Is that possible, can you please guide me. I have no knowledge about windows scripting, I program in java for my living. Thanks for your time.

  • Lazy linux backup system?

    - by Alex
Ok, so I want to say Time Machine, but that's note exactly what I'm looking for. I want to set up a system that will regularly (hourly?) back up the /home directory of our machine. time Machine style things are naturally preferable since they save space by only saving the changes, but honestly, this is important enough that I can suffer some waste. Any ideas?

  • My CRON job won't run, any ideas?

    - by bbeckford
I've installed the following CRON job using 'crontab -e' through putty on my server, but it won't run and I have no idea why. This is the line I'm putting in and saving using 'crontab -e': 00 09-18 * * 1-5 /usr/bin/php5 /home/a/v/ava/public_html/p/app_availability_updates_flush.php It's a simple script I want to run on the hour during business hours. When I use 'crontab -l' it prints the following: 00 09-18 * * 1-5 /usr/bin/php5 /home/a/v/ava/public_html/p/app_availability_updates_flush.phproot@ds6639:~# Does that look right?

  • Excel - pivot values in one cell (as comma-separated value)

    - by Chris
Excel - pivot values in one cell (as comma-separated value) I have two columns of data: Supplier1|Product1 Supplier1|Product2 Supplier1|Product4 Supplier1|Product7 Supplier2|Product3 Supplier2|Product5 I want to 'pivot' around Supplier, and give the list of products in one single cell, comma-separated e.g. Supplier1|Product1,Product2,Product4,Product7 Supplier2|Product3,Product5 There's about 1000 suppliers, and 0 < products <= 10. My current workaround involves using pivot tables, saving as CSV etc and is very messy. A non-VBA solution would be amazing.

    - by mokokamello
Hi Experts I am new to IIS 7 and i am running a 16 user Application Server i received complains from my colleagues that their application log out suddenly and not saving edits. i compared the time of complains and they match the time when i was trying to install a new asp.net application or modify an existing one (of course not the very one they complained from) does this make sense? i mean are these events (application crash and installing new application on IIS) related together. note that i did not restart IIS

  • Can you recommend a good replacement for Windows Sound Recorder?

    - by andygrunt
Can anyone recommend a good, free replacement for Windows 'Sound Recorder'? Requirements: Very quick to load and run Allows saving to a compact sound format (e.g. MP3) Allows long recordings (1+ Hours) Free Runs on Windows XP Would be nice but probably not essential: Saves along the way (in case of crashes) Allows simple edits (trim start and end and maybe remove chunks in the middle) Before anyone suggests it, I'm aware of (and have used) Audacity but I'm really after something as simple and lightweight as possible.

  • Is there a way to shut off a laptop monitor?

    - by Corey Sarnia
I tend to leave Skype calls on overnight, and for some reason Skype overrides my computer going idle. I have no idea why this is; it prevents Pidgin from idling, as well as some other programs, and prevents my computer from going into power-saving turning off the monitor. Anyway, is there a way to manually turn the monitor off on a laptop in Windows 7?

  • How do I make Windows pbrush default to a save-as JPG format?

    - by nik
Every time I want to save some image I paste into the Paint application, it chooses a BMP/DIB format (which is the worst for saving things from the clipboard). How can I hack this Windows pbrush application into defaulting to a JPEG format save always? If it matters I am using Windows XP SP3 and Paint 5.1 at the moment. But, I thought the hack would be generic, and I'd like to do this across all my Windows machines.

  • Updating Dell Vostro 3700 (Nvidia GeForce GT330M) display driver?

    - by iRubens
I've bought this laptop "Dell Vostro 3700", having inside an Intel integrated graphic card and an Nvidia GeForce GT330M. Depending on energy saving mode it switches between the two video cards. When I try to update the video driver (now version 189.99 on Windows 7 64-bit) with that found on Nvidia site an error message say that it cannot find compatible graphic hardware. Dell doesn't provide a newer driver version. Has anyone solved the same problem?

  • Is there a way to snapshot a running process to disk to restore it later?

    - by Sijin
I usually work with a lot of instances of visual studio open to different projects, I was wondering if there is a way to snapshot/hibernate a running process to disk instead of closing it so that I can open it in the same state as it was quickly. I have a ton of free disk space so wouldn't mind saving the entire process snapshot if it would save me the time in opening up the solution and waiting for the projects to load.

  • After turning off my monitor, the computer won't display again

    - by Nick Lassonde
If I physically turn off the monitor (DVI connection) and then turn it back on, the connection does not wake back up. The monitor enters "Power Saving" mode. I've tried unplugging the DVI cable and plugging back in, I've tried updating the video card drivers (it's Windows Vista; Windows 7 failed to install on this machine). I can use VNC to connect to the machine again, and after a reboot, the monitor works again. Does anyone have any idea?

  • What is a good set and forget file version tracking / backup application for windows?

    - by tomwoods
When I make changes to files, I keep on finding myself "saving as" and adding the current date to the file. It slows me down, and it creates a bunch of files that clot my folder. I would prefer to be able to Right Click on a file from the File Explorer and select to save different versions of this file, so that each time I save it, it saves a copy somewhere, that I can access in the future if necessary. Is there any application that achieves this?

  • Persistent Storage in Windows Phone 7

    - by Richard Jones
Mark Arteaga – fellow MVP just helped me with this,  thought I’d share. Windows Phone 7 SilverLight supports persistent storage, which is a great way of saving settings betweens runs of your application. However I couldn’t get it to work. If you do this to create a persistant storage instance -    private IsolatedStorageSettings userSettings = IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings; To retrieve settings do the following - string xx = userSettings[“SomeValue”].ToString();   Hiowever the bit that got me was how to save settings, you have todo this - userSettings.Add("Hello", DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString());           userSettings.Save(); // <- This is the bit that got me   Hope this helps others

  • Social Business Forum Milano: Day 2

    - by me
@YourService. The business world has flipped and small business can capitalize  by Frank Eliason (twitter: @FrankEliason ) Technology and social media tools have made it easier than ever for companies to communicate with consumers. They can listen and join in on conversations, solve problems, get instant feedback about their products and services, and more. So why, then, are most companies not doing this? Instead, it seems as if customer service is at an all time low, and that the few companies who are choosing to focus on their customers are experiencing a great competitive advantage. At Your Service explains the importance of refocusing your business on your customers and your employees, and just how to do it. Explains how to create a culture of empowered employees who understand the value of a great customer experience Advises on the need to communicate that experience to their customers and potential customers Frank Eliason, recognized by BusinessWeek as the 'most famous customer service manager in the US, possibly in the world,' has built a reputation for helping large businesses improve the way they connect with customers and enhance their relationships Quotes from the Audience: Bertrand Duperrin ?@bduperrin social service is not about shutting up the loudest cutsomers ! #sbf12 @frankeliason Paolo Pelloni ?@paolopelloniGautam Ghosh ?@GautamGhosh RT @cecildijoux: #sbf12 @frankeliason you need to change things and fix the approach it's not about social media it's about driving change  Peter H. He started with the most important question What is the commercial value of adding social ? Then he talked about the success of Community of Practices deployment and outlined some key use cases including the relevant measures to proof the ROI of the investment. Examples:  Community of practice -> measure: systematic collection of value stories  Self-service website  -> measure: based on representative models Optimizing asset inventory - > measure: Actual counts  This use case was particular interesting.  It is a crowd sourced spending/saving of infrastructure model.  User can cancel IT services they don't need (as example Software xx).  5% of the saving goes to social responsibility projects.
