• Is there any specific available method in jsp/Servlet API which tell you from which page the request

  Hi, I have been working in Oracle iStore from past 4 months and i have been managing the application without any IDE (basically doing all the chores on notepad only because application has been designed poorly and no IDE can support it). Since the coding is done on simple notepad files it is very hard to find out the bugs in the application. I am facing a problem that i have not idea which jsp page redirect the control to which jsp page. For instance, there are two jsp pages A.jsp and other is B.jsp. Now the browser is currently displaying A.jsp. When the user click on submit button (available on A.jsp) the form submits and redirects the control to B.jsp. Now my problem is that i know i am coming on B.jsp but, i don't know that A.jsp is redirecting the control to B.jsp. Is there an method available in Servlet API which tells Which jsp is redirecting the control to B.jsp? • JSP load external php not using iFrames

  I have a bit of an issue with a site I maintain. I have been asked to add a report to a page that sits in a jsp page. The reporting information comes from a MySQL database. The problem is to connect the jsp to the database would require added functions to code that I do not have the original source of. I thought about redoing all the db connection again but thats a lot of time for something that will probably be rewritten in 3 weeks. Then I thought of just using PHP to display the report in the jsp as I have other pages connecting to the database using php (long story as to why were are using 2 languages). But the only way I know of is by using iFrames which is a bit of a no no. Using the object tag I've seen also has errors in IE. What would be the best way to do this?

• Why can't I call methods within a class that explicitly implements an interface?

  Here's the story. I created and interface, IVehicle. I explicitly implemented the interface in my class, Vehicle.cs. Here is my interface: Interface IVehicle { int getWheel(); } here is my class: class Vehicle: IVehicle { public int IVehicle.getWheel() { return wheel; } public void printWheel() { Console.WriteLine(getWheel()); } } Notice that "getWheel()" is explicitly implemented. Now, when I try to call that method within my Vehicle class, I receive an error indicating that getWheel() does not exist in the current context. Can someone help me understand what I am doing wrong?

• NSLog crashing app using 3.1.3 software

  Hi guys - the other day I had a bug submitted for my app from a user on an ipod touch with 3.1.3 software. It was a strange bug as no-one else has submitted it yet. Long story short, it appears that anywhere where I have NSLog() in code it will actually crash the app. I tried stripping out ALL the code other than NSLog(@"hello") and running on my iphone (3.1.3) it indeed did crash. I removed the NSLog and it worked. Has anyone else had this problem?? PS) I am now aware that we shouldn't release an app with NSLog still in use... so they've all gone now!

• Backbone.js not registering Model.hasChanged event

  Hello, I'm trying to get a View in Backbone.js to save when there's a 'change' event if (and only if) the data has changed. Long story short, I've a 'change' event set on the View that calls this: function changed_event() { log.debug("Before: " + this.model.get('name')) // not 'contrived!' this.model.set({'name': 'contrived!'}); log.debug("After: " + this.model.get('name')) // 'contrived!' if (this.model.hasChanged()) { alert("This is never called."); } } I'd like to know why the model.hasChanged() is false when clearly the model has been changed. One of the input parameters is an array, this array data is hard coded and thus I want to pass the data like this: (this is how I would do it using PHP) myFunction(Array("1"=>"a","2"=>"b","3"=>"c")); Instead of $arr=Array("1"=>"a","2"=>"b","3"=>"c"); myFunction($arr); So how do I achieve this with my jQuery function, I want this to be a one liner if possible.

• Turn off LogEnabled Filter at run time - Logging Enterprise Application Block

  Hi, so the story go like this: i'm using the Logging Enterprise Application block that provided by microsoft to log events in our application. The goal is to enabled event viewer logging at loading and then turn it off. What i did is to add EventLog TraceListener which write all our logs into the event viewer. What i'm trying to do is to disable it after the application was done loading. The only way that i can thing about is to add a LogEnabled Filter and then turn it off. However, i don't know how to access this filter at run time and disable log on this listener. if you have an idea, please share. Thanks

• Get a image from a uiview

  Hi I want to perform a shrink animation on a UITableVIew. I experimented a bit and found out that the animation runs much faster when I shrink a UIImageView with an image of the current state of the tableview instead of shrinking the table view itself. I grabbed the image in a method in my main viewcontroller prior to the animation: UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(mainTableView.bounds.size); [resizeContainer.layer renderInContext:UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext()]; UIImage *viewImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); Works like a charm, at least almost. On very rare occasions I get weird graphic glitches, where the UIImage starts to overlap a toolbar that lies underneath it. I just want to make sure that I am getting the image in the right way. I am laking the necessary understand of GraphicContexts to be sure about it. To cut a long story short, is my code correct? Thx

• Why 2 GB memory limit when running in 64 bit Windows ?

  I'm a member in a team that develop a Delphi application. The memory requirements are huge. 500 MB is normal but in some cases it got out of memory exception. The memory allocated in that cases is typically between 1000 - 1700 MB. We of course want 64-bits compiler but that won't happen now (and if it happens we also must convert to unicode, but that is another story...). My question is why is there a 2 GB memory limit per process when running in a 64 bit environment. The pointer is 32 bit so I think 4 GB would be the right limit. I use Delphi 2007.

  I once built a very good web application in ASP (classic) back in 2001 and extensively used XmlHttpRequest object in it. (I was lucky that the clients were only using IE, and only IE supported this object at that time). Then later when people started talking about AJAX in 2005, It felt good to have used something ahead (or early) of its time. Well, maybe this does not qualify to be listed as something done ahead of its time. Which programming technology/technique/practice have you done that was ahead of this time. • Specifying location of new inlineshape in Word VBA?

  I'm working on a document "wizard" for the company that I work for. It's a .dot file with a header consisting of some text and some form fields, and a lot of VBA code. The body of the document is pulled in as an OLE object from a separate .doc file. Currently, this is being done as a Shape, rather than an InlineShape. I did this because I can absolutely position the Shape, whereas the InlineShape always appears at the beginning of the document. The problem with this is that a Shape doesn't move when the size of the header changes. If someone needs to add or remove a line from the header due to a special case, they also need to move the object that defines the body. This is a pain, and I'd like to avoid it if possible. Long story short, how do I position an InlineShape using VBA in Word? Oh, and this is for a 10-year-old system setup, so Office '97.

• Wordpress Digg-Like Voting System Plugin

  I just found out about BuddyPress (a collection of plugins that convert a WordPress MU install into a social network) and now I was wondering if there are any Digg-like voting plugins for WordPress. This would eventually integrate into a BuddyPress website, where the site members would submit, vote and comment on stories (much like Digg). I have a feeling I will end up having to build this from scratch, but since the site will be built on WordPress, I was wondering if there were any plugins already available that add this functionality. So far I have come up empty in my search. I did find a Wordpress blog that had this functionality WpVote. It even creates thumbnails of the story webpage automatically (I'm assuming) using websnapr. I browsed through the page source and didn't seem to find any hints of a WP plugin that they are using.

• Advanced Rails Routing of short URL's and usernames off of root url

  I want to have username URL's and Base 58 short URL's to resources both off of the root url like this: http://mydomain.com/username #=> goes to given user http://mydomain.com/a3x9 #=> goes to given story I am aware of the possibilities of a user names conflicting with short urls, and I have a workaround, but what I can't figure out is the best way to set this up in rails. Can I do it in rails routes? Should I do something with a piece of Rack middleware? Should I set up a routing controller? Please let me know the best way to do this. Thanks so much!

• Sharepoint SSRS: Unexpected Error Encountered

  We are running an intranet website hosted on Sharepoint 2007, serving reports to users via SSRS. Recently, our users are experiencing error when trying to access certain reports with the error message "An unexpected error has occurred". After trying many things, to cut a long story short we manage to temporarily solve the problem by manually running UPDATE STATISTICS on the tables in the database. However, this error will periodically crop up again and again, running UPDATE STATISTICS immediately solved it. I had suggested to run a daily job in the server to auto run UPDATE STATISTICS every few hours or so but was rejected by my team lead. Is there any other workaround for this error? Why does UPDATE STATISTICS solve the problem, I still not very understand?

• Does it make sense to commit after every save with a DVCS?

  I know the question has been asked before how often to commit with a DVCS. All answers have one thing in common--as often as possible. But they're usually something like, after finishing a thought, a user story, getting code that compiles, or passing tests. I was thinking, given that a DVCS gives you you're own repository, with very cheap commits, doesn't it make sense, to commit after every change to a file? After all, this is what happens in NetBeans, and you get a nice free "time machine" without even asking for it. If not every change, then at least every save, or compile. Does this make sense, or do I have the wrong idea about DVCS. My feeling is that this not the workflow most people have with DVCS.

• Highlighting in Solr 1.4 - requireFieldMatch

  I have an object Title : foo Summary : foo bar Body : this is a published story about a foo and a bar All three are set up as fields with stored=true. The user searches across my system for the word "foo" I would like to highlight foo in all three places. The user searches for the word foo in the title "title:foo" I only want to highlight foo within the title. When I added hl.requireFieldMatch=true and hl.usePhraseHighlighter=true as part of my query over to SOLR I am unable to get the highlighting in all three places when doing a generic non fielded search. Is there a way to get both scenarios to work? I had these two items turned off, but I am adding in some fielded portions of the query that the user does not see which only display Published items for instance. the problem is (foo AND status:published) is causing the word published in the body to highlight when the user only searched for the word "foo".

• Why does UIImageView "darken"/saturate PNG images, and can I stop it?

  I have a PNG file in a UIImageView, and next to that I have an EAGLView which displays the continuation of that same image (long story) as a texture, carved from the same original PNG. The point is, that these images, which should match up flawlessly, actually have somewhat differing color saturation. Normally I'd blame my handling of the PNG texture load in GL, but when I hold Preview (with the PNG) up to the iPhone simulator, it's GL that's spot on, and the UIImageView that's wrong! It's taken the image and made it ever-so-slightly more saturated. The image view is opaque with 100% alpha. I verified this on a clean UIImageView with another PNG file when put next to Preview. Anyone know what's up?

I have used various email scripts (dynaform,phpmailer, etc), and have experienced a ton of problems. So here is the site I am working on: Contact On the Right. It is very basic: no validation, no required fields. I simply need anything that is entered to be sent back to me.   hello, I would like to leave the textbox via code. when user clicks in the textbox, and types in something , and then the user will click outside the textbox. on the screen there are just labels. only this one textbox is on the form. my problem is, that the textbox does not lost focus when I click everywhere on the screen. the texbox it still has the focus. this textbox is used to filter a list, built from labels. the complete story is: - I have no mainmenu on the screen, so the Sip icon is not visible - user clicks in the textbox, and i bring up the SIP, in the textbox.GotFocus event - user types in some letters, the list is filtered - if user clicks away, the SIP disappears (textbox.lostfocus), but the textbox still has the focus, I mean the cursor remains in the textbox - when user wants to type some other letters for filtering, it clicks in the textbox, but GotFocus does not fire how can I make the texbox to loose the focus?

• Playing around with Eclipse features - Project files are now hidden?

  I don't even remember how, but somehow I managed to make all of my project's source files hidden in Eclipse's Package and Project Explorer panels. Go figure. 'Show Filtered Children (alt+click)' temporarily reveals the files, and only in Package Explorer can I double-click to reopen them from this view. They go back into hiding after I select another item, though. Plus, now I'm getting other annoyances, such as all of the folded non-hidden trees altogether expanding when I click on any item, and the entire file folder tree of my project now being shown in these panels (including my .svn subversion folders... which shouldn't be any of Eclipse's business, presently). Long story short, my Package/Project Explorers' just blew up on me, and I want to know how to fix this. Thanks in advance. P.S. What's a good guide I can use to learn my way around this silly contraption, anyway?

• Using the ASP.NET membership provider database with your own database?

  Hello everybody, We are developing an ASP.NET MVC Application that currently uses it's own databse ApplicationData for the domain models and another one Membership for the user management / membership provider. We do access restrictions using data-annotations in our controllers. [Authorize(Roles = "administrators, managers")] This worked great for simple use cases. As we are scaling our application our customer wants to restrict specific users to access specific areas of our ApplicationData database. Each of our products contains a foreign key referring to the region the product was assembled in. A user story would be: Users in the role NewYorkManagers should only be able to edit / see products that are assembled in New York. We created a placeholder table UserRightsRegions that contains the UserId and the RegionId. How can I link both the ApplicationData and the Membership databases in order to work properly / having cross-database-key-references? (Is something like this even possible?) All help is more than appreciated!

• Haskell as REST server

  I would like to try Haskell on a smallish project which should be well suited to it. I would like to use it as a backend to a small ajax application. Haskell backend should be able to do authentication (basic, form, whatever, ...), keep track of user session (not much data there except for username) and to dispatch request to handlers based on uri and request type. It should also be able to serialize response to both xml and json format, depending on request parameter. I suppose the handlers are ideally suited for Haskell, since the service is basically stateless, but I don't know where to start for the rest of the story. Searching hackage didn't give me much hints.
