  • Suggested ways of collecting 1000's of links to MSM media articles

    I'm currently running a modified Wordpress site that is uniquely designed to simply publish links to other sites, similar to The Drudge Report. Right now I have a few dozen Google Alerts setup and go through each result manually and if it matches a few niche keywords I'm working with, then I add a link to the article to my site. I do the manual checking because sometimes Google Alerts finds links to sites that belong to service providers, organizations, or products, but all I want are mainstream news articles. So my question is there a more efficient - and ideally automated - way to go about performing highly qualitative searches and aggregating such links?

  • Getting started with Team Foundation Server

    At work, we recently started using Team Foundation Server to manage our source code, i have no idea how to use this system. I do not know even know how to check source code in and out. Does anyone know of a step-by-step tutorial on how to work with TFS? Just for basic operations e.g. get latest version, upload your changes, etc. I am accessing it from Visual Studio 2010. I also have access to the TFS web interface.

    We are running more than 600 Ubuntu systems in our company. It is a data centre so we have certain policies. We have disabled the usage of storage devices in all the Ubuntu systems. However we would like to configure email alerts. If someone inserts storage devices, we should get an email Alert with subject as below, Email Alert: STORAGE DEVICE FOUND on IP: 172.29.35.18 Note: Where as for Windows system, we have certain policies applied in our DC. So there is no problem with Windows system. We need to receive alerts for Ubuntu system also. Any way to accomplish the above task would be great.

  • Open Source License that prevents re-selling

    I have an open source project that is a add-in to TFS (ie it is for developers and those using TFS.) It is currently using the GPL. But it occurs to me that the GPL does not really represent what I am trying to do with my license. I want my code to be free to everyone who wants to use it. And if you modify it and use it then that is great too. You should not have to open source your modifications. But I would like to block someone from building my code and selling it. Or modifying it and selling it. (Anyone that wants to do that should have to negotiate a separate license with me.) Is there an open source license that prevents re-selling, but allows full non-vending use for a person/company that downloads it?

    This past week the CodePlex team worked on several fixes to improve the stability of our TFS infrastructure, including applying TFS 2012 Update 1. We apologize for the recent downtime. We are not completely out of the woods, but we appreciate your patience as we work through the issues. Additional Bug Fixes: Fixed several issues with character encoding within file paths. Fixed issue where the number of pull requests and forks were disappearing after selecting either link. Fixed issue blocking license changes when special characters exist in copyright holder field.   • Find out when a new domain appears in search results

    Does anyone know a way to perform the following: I want to know whenever a new domain starts appearing in the google search results for a particular query. For a given google search query, I'd like to receive an alert whenever a new domain pops up and starts appearing in the search results for that query. Alternatively, it would be great if you could just sort google search results by the age of the domain, making it easy to find new sites. As far as I can tell you can only sort by when the page was "last updated". Is something like this possible? EDIT: Following John's suggestion of Google Alerts. The problem with Google Alerts is that it sends you any new PAGES appearing in the search results, not just new DOMAINS.

Up until now, if you have to connect to TFS 2010 from other platforms - be it Linux, Mac, Solaris etc., you had to purchase a CAL (Client Access License) or a 90-day free trial of the Team Explorer Everywhere 2010. You don't have to do that anymore. Microsoft has made it free and released an update with Team Explorer Everywhere with SP1.   • And just like that, there went February

    The best intentions were having me at perhaps posting more than twice a month, and here we are and … well it has been busy. There has been a lot of SharePoint 2010 already in this first number of weeks of the year, a good amount of TFS 2010, but even better working quite actively on two topics that I enjoy quite a bit … Windows Azure and Application Lifecycle Management.  And there is more to come around those two. Through the influencers program with Geekswithblogs and Discountasp.net I got access to a hosted TFS solution that I am currently testing and will be posting my findings and documenting a good amount of information on that process. Another great resource has been fpweb.net, and there will be more details on this too.  Pretty exciting stuff! That is what is going on and what will be coming on here shortly.

  • Workflow of sharing code for small teams

    Problem is, we have developed a small CMS, that is different per implementation (currently). Of course development of this is never complete. Sometimes, we are working on more than one project that implements it (by copying-pasting the code files of the CMS to each project), and we add a new feature that we want to share on other projects as well (these can be small ones too, ie a custom ajax JSON controller - we use MVC) What we want to do is quickly and uniformly share the code with all other projects, via a version control system (or something similar), and generally organize the workflow as we know this isn't a very good workflow that we have. What would you suggest? Also, at the momment, the software we use is Visual Studio 2010, so we are strongly considering TFS, but even if we get it we still don't know the ideal workflow, or even if TFS supports what we want to do. Edit: Also note, we have specific implementations that have modifications over the CMS base that we want to KEEP only in the project area. (ie: a specific feature that we DONT want to share with the base CMS code)

  • How to Automate Checking for Stolen Content?

    So I know about tools like Copyscape and Google Alerts.. great tools, but it's quite tedious for me to copy and paste an URL or phrase for every one of my pages in my sites. Is there any tool out there that monitors your website and emails you or alerts you whenever someone has stolen content from your site? The only service I know is CopySentry and honestly, it's too expensive for me since I got thousands of pages I want to monitor... Anyone else have this problem? or is it just me?   • Xenserver 6.2 cannot send alert using gmail smtp

    I'm using Xenserver 6.2 and configured ssmtp.conf an mail_alert.conf in order to receive alerts through email. I followed the instructions on http://support.citrix.com/servlet/KbServlet/download/34969-102-706058/reference.pdf document. I'm using gmail smtp to send the emails. When i try: [root@xen /]# ssmtp [email protected] from the command line and try to send the email, no problem. It is right on the way. But when i set some VM to generate alerts, alerts are generated. I see in XenCenter but emailing is not working. I see this in /var/log/maillog file: May 27 16:17:09 xen sSMTP[30880]: Server didn't like our AUTH LOGIN (530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. 18sm34990758wju.15 - gsmtp) From command line every thing works fine.   • How to set up Zabbix to monitor SQL Server Failover Active-Passive Cluster?

    It should be simple, so it is just most likely my approach being totally off and someone will hopefully prod me into the right direction. We have a Zabbix 2.0.3 server instance set up monitoring a bunch of different servers, but now we need to set it up to monitor and notify any alerts in regards to the SQL Server 2008 R2 Failover Active-Passive cluster. Essentially, this is a 2 servers cluster, when only one of its nodes can be "active" at a given time, serving all SQL Server related requests, while the other server just "sleeps" and from the point of anyone logged on on that server - has all of the SQL Server related services in stopped state. We have tried setting up Zabbix agents on both servers, using SQL Server 2005 templates (we could not find any 2008 specific ones and the 2005 ones always seemed to be working just fine for monitoring 2008 R2 instances) and configuring Zabbix server for both of the servers, but we end up having constant alerts for the server being currently the passive one in the cluster. We have been able to look up various methods of actually monitoring the failover, but we have not been able to find any guidance in regards to how to instruct Zabbix, that in this particular case, only one of the servers in the group is expected to be in the online state, while the other can be just discarded and should not raise any alerts. I hope I made myself clear. Thanks for any guidance. I am out of ideas.

  • Authenticate domain-user credentials on unjoined virtual machine?

    Hi all, This question may sound silly, and perhaps a bit insane, but--is there any way to run a process on a machine not joined to a domain using credentials from a user in that domain? In my case, I'm running virtual machines installed with release binaries from our build process, as well as Visual Studio. Visual Studio is there to debug our release binaries, however it's being executed with vm-local user credentials. This means that it can't authenticate to our TFS deployment when executing "tf.exe view" to utilize our Source Server for debugging. Team Explorer manages to authenticate to TFS using a UI prompt, however I suspect that it's because we supply it with the TFS deployment's URI, and it's designed to display a prompt to facilitate workgroup scenarios; i.e. it's not like we're getting it for free. My instincts tell me the only way to authenticate on this vm is to join it or somehow form a one-way trust or something, but is there an easier way? For automation we're going to want to script this eventually, but I'm first surveying the feasibility of the thing.

  • Visual Studio 2010 crashes nearly every time when closing

    Mostly it happens if we open a team project from tfs 2008 or tfs 2010, but crashes can happen any time. When VS is closing down, it crashes nearly every time. Tried trial RTM and our MSDN download - same story. Tried on three different PCs - same issue. Tried on 32 and 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 - crashes. Is it just our luck or does it happen to you to?

    Hi all, I use jCarouselLite for scrolling text, I use and as the content for scrolling, I need to trigger a javascript event when it reaches at the end of the content(). I need to change the scroll content when it finishes scrolling previous content. I tried adding a call back function but it does'nt work.     Hi, I wonder if some can help me out with this little problem. I have the following insert statement: insert into symbol (sy_id, sy_fg_color, sy_bg_color, sy_icon) select 302, 0, 16245177, sy_icon = (select * from openrowset(bulk 'K:\mypath\icons\myicon.png', single_blob) as image) Is it possible to make the path relative in any way? I'm using TFS to deploy the database, so if it's not possible to make it relative with T-SQL, maybe it can be done with a little help from TFS/Visual Studio deploy?
