  • Need a push in the write direction, to write my first functional test in Rails?

    - by Jason
    Hi, I've read quiet a bit of documentation over the last few days about testing in Rails, I'm sitting down to write my first real test and not 100% sure how to tie what I have learned together to achieve the following functional test (testing a controller) I need to send a GET request to a URL and pass 3 parameters (simple web-service), if the functionality works the keyword "true" is simply returned, otherwise the keyword "false" is returned - its in only value returned & not contained in any , or other tags. The test should assert that if "true" is returned the test is successful. This is probably very simple so apologies for such a non-challenging question. If anyone could point me in the write direction on how I can get started, particularly how I can test the response, I'd be very grateful! Thanks!

  • Slightly different execution times between python2 and python3

    - by user557634
    Hi. Lastly I wrote a simple generator of permutations in python (implementation of "plain changes" algorithm described by Knuth in "The Art... 4"). I was curious about the differences in execution time of it between python2 and python3. Here is my function: def perms(s): s = tuple(s) N = len(s) if N <= 1: yield s[:] raise StopIteration() for x in perms(s[1:]): for i in range(0,N): yield x[:i] + (s[0],) + x[i:] I tested both using timeit module. My tests: $ echo "python2.6:" && ./testing.py && echo "python3:" && ./testing3.py python2.6: args time[ms] 1 0.003811 2 0.008268 3 0.015907 4 0.042646 5 0.166755 6 0.908796 7 6.117996 8 48.346996 9 433.928967 10 4379.904032 python3: args time[ms] 1 0.00246778964996 2 0.00656183719635 3 0.01419159912 4 0.0406293644678 5 0.165960511097 6 0.923101452814 7 6.24257639835 8 53.0099868774 9 454.540967941 10 4585.83498001 As you can see, for number of arguments less than 6, python 3 is faster, but then roles are reversed and python2.6 does better. As I am a novice in python programming, I wonder why is that so? Or maybe my script is more optimized for python2? Thank you in advance for kind answer :)

  • Designing a chain of states

    - by devoured elysium
    I want to model a kind of FSM(Finite State Machine). I have a sequence of states (let's say, from StateA to StateZ). This sequence is called a Chain and is implemented internally as a List. I will add states by the order I want them to run. My purpose is to be able to make a sequence of actions in my computer (for example, mouse clicks). (I know this has been done a zillion times). So a state is defined as a: boolean Precondition() <- Checks to see if for this state, some condition is true. For example, if I want to click in the Record button of a program, in this method I would check if the program's process is running or not. If it is, go to the next state in the chain list, otherwise, go to what was defined as the fail state (generally is the first state of them all). IState GetNextState() <- Returns the next state to evaluate. If Precondition() was sucessful, it should yield the next state in the chain otherwise it should yield the fail state. Run() Simply checks the Precondition() and sets the internal data so GetNextState() works as expected. So, a naive approach to this would be something like this: Chain chain = new Chain(); //chain.AddState(new State(Precondition, FailState, NextState) <- Method structure chain.AddState(new State(new WinampIsOpenCondition(), null, new <problem here, I want to referr to a state that still wasn't defined!>); The big problem is that I want to make a reference to a State that at this point still wasn't defined. I could circumvent the problem by using strings when refrering to states and using an internal hashtable, but isn't there a clearer alternative? I could just pass only the pre-condition and failure states in the constructor, having the chain just before execution put in each state the correct next state in a public property but that seems kind of awkward.

  • Plotting Tweets from DB in Ruby, grouping by hour.

    - by plotti
    Hey guys I've got a couple of issues with my code. I was wondering that I am plotting the results very ineffectively, since the grouping by hour takes ages the DB is very simple it contains the tweets, created date and username. It is fed by the twitter gardenhose. Thanks for your help ! require 'rubygems' require 'sequel' require 'gnuplot' DB = Sequel.sqlite("volcano.sqlite") tweets = DB[:tweets] def get_values(keyword,tweets) my_tweets = tweets.filter(:text.like("%#{keyword}%")) r = Hash.new start = my_tweets.first[:created_at] my_tweets.each do |t| hour = ((t[:created_at]-start)/3600).round r[hour] == nil ? r[hour] = 1 : r[hour] += 1 end x = [] y = [] r.sort.each do |e| x << e[0] y << e[1] end [x,y] end keywords = ["iceland", "island", "vulkan", "volcano"] values = {} keywords.each do |k| values[k] = get_values(k,tweets) end Gnuplot.open do |gp| Gnuplot::Plot.new(gp) do |plot| plot.terminal "png" plot.output "volcano.png" plot.data = [] values.each do |k,v| plot.data << Gnuplot::DataSet.new([v[0],v[1]]){ |ds| ds.with = "linespoints" ds.title = k } end end end

  • Use different Solr Similarity algo for every search

    - by snickernet
    Hi Guys, Is possible in Solr 1.4 to specify which similarity class to use for every search within a single index? Let's say, I got 2 type of search (keyword and brand). For keyword search, I want to use the DefaultSimilarity class. But, for brand search, I want to use my CustomSimilarity class. I've been modifying the schema.xml to specify a single similarity class to use. But, I came to this requirement that I have to use 2 different similarity classes. I'll be glad to here your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.

  • Are there cheat sheets for misc source code management tools?

    - by Alex_coder
    I'm looking for something similar to Pacman Rosetta, which explains how to achieve similar tasks using different source code management tools. Sometimes docs for a certain SCM contain examples comparing that particular SCM to a couple of others. But I'm looking for a central place that contains maximum available information. Example: one uses bzr and knows that 'bzr pull' syncs a local repo by fetching new content from a remote repo. One want to know how to do that with git. One finds the git command, he knows the keyword. Since the keyword is known, one can proceed straight to git docs, he knows what to read about, he doesn't have to waste time by searching the git docs. I understand this might be not the only way people use to learn a new SCM tool. If you use other approaches, please do tell.

  • Can anyone tell me why my XML writer is not writing attributes?

    - by user1632018
    I am writing a parsing tool to help me clean up a large VC++ project before I make .net bindings for it. I am using an XML writer to read an xml file and write out each element to a new file. If an element with a certain name is found, then it executes some code and writes an output value into the elements value. So far it is almost working, except for one thing: It is not copying the attributes. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Here is a sample of what it is supposed to copy/modify(Includes the attributes): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Project DefaultTargets="Build" ToolsVersion="4.0" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003"> <ItemGroup Label="ProjectConfigurations"> <ProjectConfiguration Include="Debug|Win32"> <Configuration>Debug</Configuration> <Platform>Win32</Platform> </ProjectConfiguration> <ProjectConfiguration Include="Release|Win32"> <Configuration>Release</Configuration> <Platform>Win32</Platform> </ProjectConfiguration> </ItemGroup> <PropertyGroup Label="Globals"> <ProjectGuid>{57900E99-A405-49F4-83B2-0254117D041B}</ProjectGuid> <Keyword>Win32Proj</Keyword> <RootNamespace>libproj</RootNamespace> </PropertyGroup> Here is the output I am getting(No Attributes): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Project> <ItemGroup> <ProjectConfiguration> <Configuration>Debug</Configuration> <Platform>Win32</Platform> </ProjectConfiguration> <ProjectConfiguration> <Configuration>Release</Configuration> <Platform>Win32</Platform> </ProjectConfiguration> </ItemGroup> <PropertyGroup> <ProjectGuid>{57900E99-A405-49F4-83B2-0254117D041B}</ProjectGuid> <Keyword>Win32Proj</Keyword> <RootNamespace>libproj</RootNamespace> Here is my code currently. I have tried every way I can come up with to write the attributes. string baseDir = (textBox2.Text + "\\" + safeFileName); string vcName = Path.GetFileName(textBox1.Text); string vcProj = Path.Combine(baseDir, vcName); using (XmlReader reader = XmlReader.Create(textBox1.Text)) { XmlWriterSettings settings = new XmlWriterSettings(); settings.OmitXmlDeclaration = true; settings.ConformanceLevel = ConformanceLevel.Fragment; settings.Indent = true; settings.CloseOutput = false; using (XmlWriter writer = XmlWriter.Create(vcProj, settings)) { while (reader.Read()) { switch (reader.NodeType) { case XmlNodeType.Element: if (reader.Name == "ClInclude") { string include = reader.GetAttribute("Include"); string dirPath = Path.GetDirectoryName(textBox1.Text); Directory.SetCurrentDirectory(dirPath); string fullPath = Path.GetFullPath(include); //string dirPath = Path.GetDirectoryName(fullPath); copyFile(fullPath, 3); string filename = Path.GetFileName(fullPath); writer.WriteStartElement(reader.Name); writer.WriteAttributeString("Include", "include/" + filename); writer.WriteEndElement(); } else if (reader.Name == "ClCompile" && reader.HasAttributes) { string include = reader.GetAttribute("Include"); string dirPath = Path.GetDirectoryName(textBox1.Text); Directory.SetCurrentDirectory(dirPath); string fullPath = Path.GetFullPath(include); copyFile(fullPath, 2); string filename = Path.GetFileName(fullPath); writer.WriteStartElement(reader.Name); writer.WriteAttributeString("Include", "src/" + filename); writer.WriteEndElement(); } else { writer.WriteStartElement(reader.Name); } break; case XmlNodeType.Text: writer.WriteString(reader.Value); break; case XmlNodeType.XmlDeclaration: case XmlNodeType.ProcessingInstruction: writer.WriteProcessingInstruction(reader.Name, reader.Value); break; case XmlNodeType.Comment: writer.WriteComment(reader.Value); break; case XmlNodeType.Attribute: writer.WriteAttributes(reader, true); break; case XmlNodeType.EntityReference: writer.WriteEntityRef(reader.Value); break; case XmlNodeType.EndElement: writer.WriteFullEndElement(); break; } } } }

  • Why is 'virtual' optional for overridden methods in derived classes?

    - by squelart
    When a method is declared as virtual in a class, its overrides in derived classes are automatically considered virtual as well, and the C++ language makes this keyword virtual optional in this case: class Base { virtual void f(); }; class Derived : public Base { void f(); // 'virtual' is optional but implied. }; My question is: What is the rationale for making virtual optional? I know that it is not absolutely necessary for the compiler to be told that, but I would think that developers would benefit if such a constraint was enforced by the compiler. E.g., sometimes when I read others' code I wonder if a method is virtual and I have to track down its superclasses to determine that. And some coding standards (Google) make it a 'must' to put the virtual keyword in all subclasses.

  • C# Count registry keys existing using a partial value

    - by cheeseman
    Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey registryPath = Microsoft.Win32.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey(@"SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Testing"); Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey entryKey = registryPath.OpenSubKey("Entry Point"); I have a lot of keys in Testing, in the format: "Entry Point 011", "Entry Point 123" - so Entry Point with random numbers after it. Would I be able to search the registryPath variable above and get a count of the number of keys containing the "Entry Point" keyword? Assuming that there are also other keys existing without this keyword. At the moment I have been using a for loop and looping for all possible combinations to get a count of all the keys, checking if the key exists or not, but as there are keys as high as "Entry Point 9000" having a for loop execute 9000 times is very inefficient. for (int i = 0; i <= highestEntryPointValue; i++) { Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey entryKey = steamApps64.OpenSubKey("Entry Point " + Convert.ToString(i)); if (entryKey != null) { count++; } }

  • Question regrarding declaring a property

    - by Simon
    Hi. We declare properties using the @property keyword and synthesize it in the implementation file. My question is, What if I declare a property using the @property keyword and also declare a variable in the interface block with the same name? For example, consider the following code, Interface: @interface myClass : NSObject { NSString *myClass_name; // LINE 1 } @property(nonatomic, retain) NSString *myClass_name; // LINE 2 @end Implementation: @implementation myClass @synthesize myClass_name @end Declaring myClass_name in LINE 1 will make any problem? Like any reference problem or any unnecessary memory consumption problem?

  • LINQ - Splitting up a string with maximum length, but not chopping words apart.

    - by Stacey
    I have a simple LINQ Extension Method... public static IEnumerable<string> SplitOnLength(this string input, int length) { int index = 0; while (index < input.Length) { if (index + length < input.Length) yield return input.Substring(index, length); else yield return input.Substring(index); index += length; } } This takes a string, and it chops it up into a collection of strings that do not exceed the given length. This works well - however I'd like to go further. It chops words in half. I don't need it to understand anything complicated, I just want it to be able to chop a string off 'early' if cutting it at the length would be cutting in the middle of text (basically anything that isn't whitespace). However I suck at LINQ, so I was wondering if anyone had an idea on how to go about this. I know what I am trying to do, but I'm not sure how to approach it. So let's say I have the following text. This is a sample block of text that I would pass through the string splitter. I call this method SplitOnLength(6) I would get the following. This i s a sa mple b lock o f text that I would pass t hrough the s tring splitt er. I would rather it be smart enough to stop and look more like .. This is a sample // bad example, since the single word exceeds maximum length, but the length would be larger numbers in real scenarios, closer to 200. Can anyone help me?

  • How to search for a specific word in a row in MYSQL?

    - by user220755
    I have a row that has keywords in this way (keyword1, keyword2, keyword3) separated by commas as shown. When a user signs in, you know that he wants information about (keyword1, keyword3). Now, I have another table that has bunch of information related to different keywords, this table has a row called (keywords) which indicates if this information is suitable for which keyword. How do I render for the user the information he needs depending on the keywords. In other words, if the user wants information about (keyword3, keyword1) how do I go to the (information) table and find all the information that has the word (keyword1) or the word (keyword3) in the row (keyword)? Sorry if this is complicated (my explanation) but I tried my best to explain it. Thank you in advance :)

  • Get top 'n' records by report_id

    - by Skudd
    I have a simple view in my MSSQL database. It consists of the following fields: report_id INT ym VARCHAR -- YYYY-MM keyword VARCHAR(MAX) visits INT I can easily get the top 10 keyword hits with the following query: SELECT TOP 10 * FROM top_keywords WHERE ym BETWEEN '2010-05' AND '2010-05' ORDER BY visits DESC Now where it gets tricky is where I have to get the top 10 records for each report_id in the given date range (ym BETWEEN @start_date AND @end_date). How would I go about getting the top 10 for each report_id? I've stumbled across suggestions involving the use of ROW_NUMBER() and RANK(), but have been vastly unsuccessful in their implementation.

  • Implementing an ActiveRecord before_find

    - by thaiyoshi
    I am building a search with the keywords cached in a table. Before a user-inputted keyword is looked up in the table, it is normalized. For example, some punctuation like '-' is removed and the casing is standardized. The normalized keyword is then used to find fetch the search results. I am currently handling the normalization in the controller with a before_filter. I was wondering if there was a way to do this in the model instead. Something conceptually like a "before_find" callback would work although that wouldn't make sense on for an instance level.

  • Sharepoint 2010 - Managed KeyWords

    - by Audioillity
    Hi, Is it possible to import managed keywords into SharePoint 2010? Where are the keywords stored within which database? Background - I'm currently working on a migration from a legacy system into SharePoint 2010. So far everything is going well, and I can even bring across the managed meta data across along with most other data. The process I use was built for SharePoint 2007 to update Lists over SOAP. With a few manual tweaks I've managed to get the metadata to come across. To bring across either managed metadata or managed keywords I need to know the ID for the existing label/keyword. I have this for the Managed Metadata however not for the Managed Keyword. Currently I create a CSV file to be imported for managed metadata before working out the reverent GUID for the source label. Many Thanks Luke

  • Can this extension method be improve

    - by Newbie
    I have the following extension method public static class ListExtensions { public static IEnumerable<T> Search<T>(this ICollection<T> collection, string stringToSearch) { foreach (T t in collection) { Type k = t.GetType(); PropertyInfo pi = k.GetProperty("Name"); if (pi.GetValue(t, null).Equals(stringToSearch)) { yield return t; } } } } What it does is by using reflection, it finds the name property and then filteres the record from the collection based on the matching string. This method is being called as List<FactorClass> listFC = new List<FactorClass>(); listFC.Add(new FactorClass { Name = "BKP", FactorValue="Book to price",IsGlobal =false }); listFC.Add(new FactorClass { Name = "YLD", FactorValue = "Dividend yield", IsGlobal = false }); listFC.Add(new FactorClass { Name = "EPM", FactorValue = "emp", IsGlobal = false }); listFC.Add(new FactorClass { Name = "SE", FactorValue = "something else", IsGlobal = false }); List<FactorClass> listFC1 = listFC.Search("BKP").ToList(); It is working fine. But a closer look into the extension method will reveal that Type k = t.GetType(); PropertyInfo pi = k.GetProperty("Name"); is actually inside a foreach loop which is actually not needed. I think we can take it outside the loop. But how? PLease help. (C#3.0)

  • focus() jQuery function doesn't work in Safari, but works fine on all other browsers?

    - by pMan
    I have a search text field and search button, when button is clicked with default text in text field, or null value, an alert pops up and sets focus back on search text field. This works very well on all major browsers but not in safari. I tried it even with out jquery, but didn't work. When the focus falls on search text field, I have another jQuery function, is that the problem. The code that sets focus on search text is: if (defaults.keyword == SEARCH_TIP || defaults.keyword == '') { alert(SEARCH_NULL); $('#store_search_keyword').focus(); return false; } The code on focus is: var search_dom = $('#store_search_keyword'); var search_text = search_dom.val(); search_dom.focus(function(){ if ($(this).val() === SEARCH_TIP) { $(this).val(''); } }); any help is appreciated, thanks..

  • How to hide classes to external namespaces? Something like the package-protected modifier in Java

    - by devoured elysium
    In java is easy to "hide" classes from outside your package(namespace), as you can define them as package-protected. There seems to be no equivalent keyword modifier in C#. Is there any way I could mimic that behaviour in C#? I have a couple of classes that I really wouldn't like the rest of the assembly to know of. It is ok for classes in the same namespace to know of, but I'd like them to be hidden from the rest of the library/application. I know of the internal keyword, but that only hiddes classes if you try to access them from outside your assembly. That is not really my case, as I'd like to keep everything glued in just one .DLL/.EXE. Thanks
