• ASP.Net Application Trust Medium File IO Outside Virtual Directory

  I am trying to determine how suicidal this is... I have a hosting environment where a custom ASP.Net CMS application needs to access the files in the root folder of a website even though it is in a virtual folder so it can be shared accross many sites. I can modify the Medium trust on the server and came up with this... <IPermission class="FileIOPermission" version="1" Read="$AppDir$;$AppDir$\.." Write="$AppDir$;$AppDir$\.." Append="$AppDir$;$AppDir$\.." PathDiscovery="$AppDir$;$AppDir$\.."/> Oddly enough, it works. Yes, I understand it is doing this for all the Apps. I am a bit at a loss as to easy ways to test what else is being exposed. Feels dangerous. Opinions?

• Should I be afraid of Linux server administration?

  I've been trying to figure out what to focus on. I finally realized that the root of my quandary is that I am unsure about learning Linux server administration. I have been getting pretty good with PHP/MySQL and web development, but I am not very familiar with Linux. Is it hard to learn? What would I need to know in order to manage a LAMP stack? Also, which version is most used in enterprises? I think I have also hesitated to dive in because it seems like it is mostly used in small companies, but I guess that could be a good thing.

• Open flash chart not working

  I'm trying to implement Open Flash Chart in my website but it doesn't work. The chart just start loading for a second and the loader animation disappear and nothing happening (Only a black swf area). i've downloaded the latest version which is 2 and here is my folders scheme: // ROOT // ? • Can't make wmode: 'transparent' work on sIFR 3

  I've been trying to use sIFR to change some text in my webpage. It works fine until I try to get it to use a transparent canvas. The code I'm using is as follow. I have no idea to fix it. I've seen a lot of people make this questions about wmode: 'transparent' and it all seems to work but mine. Can someone give me a hand??? Without the wmode: 'transparent' property it works fine.   Hi there Im am trying to use the isapi rewrite tool on my web domain to write some basic rules, but am getting a bit confused. My base url is http://forevr-dev.co.uk/musicexplained/index.cfm and every page on the site follows from this base url. For example http://forevr-dev.co.uk/musicexplained/index.cfm/artist/blondie would be the artist page for blondie.. What I am looking for, is a rewrite rule, that would remove the index.cfm from the url, instead leaving http://forevr-dev.co.uk/musicexplained/artist/blondie. I have put the httpd.ini file in my musicexplained folder, under the root of my forevr-dev.co.uk domain, and I am using the following code below, which I used from the coldbox coldfusion framework application examples. RewriteEngine On RepeatLimit 0 RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.cfm/%{REQUEST_URI} [QSA,L] However, when I now go to the new pretty url, I am recieving an error message saying that the page cannot be found, alongside a 404 message.   I have Fedora 11 and trying to get Xen working (which I think it is already) but the Virtual Machine Manager cannot find the hypervisor. When starting Virtual Machine Manager, I receive the following error Error determining default hypervisor. Could not populate a default connection. Make sure the appropriate virtualization packages are installed (kvm, qemu, etc.) and that libvirtd has been restarted to notice the change. • Tomcat custom classloader in Liferay principles

  When custom class loader in webapp context file is used and the context is being initialized and started, the custom classloader is just a substitution for the default webapp class loader, right ? But what are the consequences of doing this? Because, for instance, in Liferay portal an application can use custom PortalClassLoader, which just extends webapp class loader and does nothing else, it's the same class, no modifications at all. And I didn't find any following initializations like repository location changes etc. The point is, that the PortalClassLoader provides the webapp with an access to the ROOT portal context, which AFAIK doesn't use PortalClassLoader, according to debugger.

• How can I convert .eps files to .jpg in ASP.NET?

  I am trying to convert uploaded .eps files to .jpg in my ASP.net application and I am having a hard time finding a .net library that will let me do this. I have tried using the ImageMagick libraries, but I don't have root access to the server in order to install the standard binaries, or run the command line executables. I have also tried the slightly modified project from CodeProject, but it was designed in VS2005 and I have VS2008 and 2010 and I think I run into some compatibility issues while trying to compile and execute the project. Is there a simpler solution available that just works natively in .NET? Thanks, Mike

• Flex HTTPService security error using Safari

  I'm using the HTTPService object in actionscript to send some data to a php file on another server which then inserts the data to a database. I set up the crossdomain.xml file in the root of the directory that contains the php file to get around any security issues. Everything works fine on Firfox 3.5 (on mac and pc) and on IE 7 & 8. When testing on Safari 4 I get an error which would be expected when a crossdomain.xml doesn't exist. • Importing Thawte trial certificates into a Java keystore

  Hello, I'm trying to configure a Tomcat server with SSL. I've generated a keypair thus: $ keytool -genkeypair -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA -keystore keys Next I generate a certificate signing request: $ keytool -certreq -keyalg RSA -alias tomcat -keystore keys -file tomcat.csr Then I copy-paste the contents of tomcat.csr into a form on Thawte's website, asking for a trial SSL certificate. In return I get two certificates delimited with -----BEGIN ... -----END, that I save under tomcat.crt and thawte.crt. (Thawte calls the second certificate a 'Thawte Test CA Root' certificate). When I try to import either of them it fails: $ keytool -importcert -alias tomcat -file tomcat.crt -keystore keys Enter keystore password: keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Failed to establish chain from reply $ keytool -importcert -alias thawte -file thawtetest.crt -keystore keys Enter keystore password: keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Input not an X.509 certificate Adding the -trustcacerts option to either of these commands doesn't change anything either. Any idea what I am doing wrong here?

  I asked this question in the Ext JS forums, but I received no responses, so I am asking here. I have a TreePanel (code below) that uses a TreeLoader and an AsyncTreeNode. In my API method specified by the TreeLoader's dataUrl, I return a JSON array to populate the tree. This works great, of course. However, I need to return an additional item--an integer--in addition to the array, and I need to display that value somewhere else in my UI. Is this possible? If not, what else would be a good solution?   My goal is to implement the following scheme using the subdomain and path as attributes: Use a wildcard DNS entry that routes any subdomain to the root site: Example: *.example.com ex: http://xyz.example.com to http://example.com Next I want to rewrite the requests to point to a specific page, passing both the subdomain and the request path as attributes. Example: http://xyz123.example.com/images/header.jpg to http://example.com/get.aspx?id=xyz123&path=/images/header.jpg I've seen several questions on here regarding similar goals, but not quite the same. I'm new to using rewrite rules, so any help is appreciated. I will update this as I make progress.

• Silverlight Navigation using Mvvm-light(oobe)+MEF?

  What is the best approach for navigating between UserControls/Pages(out of browser experience)? I'm fairly new to Silverlight and even newer to the mvvm pattern. How well does the Navigation Framework Integrate with the MVVM Light Toolkit? A snippet for general application flow control with the two would be great. The plan was to use the Navigation Framework for general flow or using Jeremy Likeness's approach to region management(http://csharperimage.jeremylikness.com/search/label/regions) and swapping out regions as needed. I've seen a few places mention replacing the Visual Root, but that sounded like a hack to me. Any advice, snippets, or a nudge in the general direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

• System.Reflection - Global methods aren't available for reflection

  I have an issue with a semantic gap between the CLR and System.Reflection. System.Reflection does not (AFAIK) support reflecting on global methods in an assembly. At the assembly level, I must start with the root types. My compiler can produce assemblies with global methods, and my standard bootstrap lib is a dll that includes some global methods. My compiler uses System.Reflection to import assembly metadata at compile time. It seems if I depend on System.Reflection, global methods are not a possibility. The cleanest solution is to convert all of my standard methods to class static methods, but the point is, my language allows global methods, and the CLR supports it, but System.Reflection leaves a gap. ildasm shows the global methods just fine, but I assume it does not use System.Reflection itself and goes right to the metadata and bytecode. Besides System.Reflection, is anyone aware of any other 3rd party reflection or disassembly libs that I could make use of (assuming I will eventually release my compiler as free, BSD licensed open source).

• Setting background views depending on user settings

  I've got an app where the background needs to be set depending on user preference. The user can change this at any time via settings tab. I've got it working by checking NSUserDefaults in viewWillAppear and setting self.view.backgroundColor. This is really clunky. The right approach (I thought) is to set the background in the root view and for every views that gets on the stack inherit the background. So in viewDidLoad, I've got self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; I would have thought this should work. But all I get is a clear background. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

• Silverlight Project - Setting Reference to Copy Local false not working.

  Why is it that when my Silverlight project is built, the output directory contains a bunch of culture specific directories: ar\System.Windows.Controls.resources.dll bg\System.Windows.Controls.resources.dll ca\System.Windows.Controls.resources.dll etc etc etc Also the root of the build output contains: System.Xml.Linq.dll System.windows.Controls.dll I have gone through the projects in my solution and made sure that "Copy Local" is set to false for all the referances of the mentioned dll files. Those 2 files were set to true, but I did switch them to false. Despite my effort to google an answer, I remain stuck.

  Hi All, I have been trying to set up local debugging for my ASP.NET app in Delphi and am getting the error above. I have used the aspnet_regiis.exe tool with the following: Aspnet_regiis.exe -s W3SVC/1/ROOT/DevTest but this hasn't helped. It added it to IIS as an application but I am still getting the error: The project cannot be debugged because virtual directory "DevTes" is not configured with ASP.NET version 2.0 or 3.0 Use aspnet_regiis.exe to configure the local IIS web server. I am not really sure where to go from here so need some help please: Machine specs: Windows 7 64bit, IIS7, Using RAD Studio 2007.
