  • PCAP Web Service Usage Logging for Dummies

    I've been assigned the task (for work) of working with PCAP for the first time in my life. I've read through the tutorials and have hacked together a real simple capture program which, it turns out, isn't that hard. However, making use of the data is more difficult. My goal is to log incomming and outgoing web service requests. Are there libraries (C or C++) that stitch together the packets from PCAP that would make reporting on this simple? Baring that is there something short of reading all of the RFC's from soup to nuts that will allow me to have an "ah-ha!" moment (all of the tutorials seem to stop at the raw packet level which isn't useful for me)? It looks like PERL has a library that may do this and I may eventually attempt a reverse engineer from PERL. NOTE BENE: Web Server logs aren't acceptable here as I will be intercepting on a routing device. If I had access to those I'd be done and happy...I don't.

  • What is the simplest and most impressive piece of jQuery code you've seen?

    I think the question is clear enough, but I'd like to clarify it because it's subjective at some point and I don't want it closed. I want to see some short jQuery examples with awesome results (either from the user or from the programmer perspective), that would not be that easy using straight javascript without any library. I find this question useful to be aware how using jQuery simplifies your js code.

  • Redis - Records Fall Off

    With memcache, when you exceed the available ram, it automatically drops the oldest records off the end of the stack.. Is there a way to do this with redis? I'm trying to find ways to avoid running in to a write error (when there's no more available ram), other than setting a timeout. The only reason the timeout isn't useful, it because it doesn't guaranty the ability to write.

  • What is a good Javascript RDFa parser implementation?

    I am looking to implement a client side RDFa based formatting for a web application. This would be similar to Mark Birbeck's ubiquity-rdfa project. Mark's project looks fantastic but it has at least two drawbacks: It is slow. Adding RDFa formatting to a simple page causes a noticeable delay in page loading. It is complex. The ubiquity-rdfa project makes use of the w3c fresnel specification which is complex way to add simple annotations to client markup. I am looking for a lighter weight way of adding annotations through client code and I don't mind doing some work to get it. What I would like is a fast and reliable Javascript RDFa parser. Some implementations that I have found include: W3C RDFa bookmarklet parser Elias Torres RDFa extractor I am interested to know if you would recommend one of these, or another, RDFa Javascript implementation.   • Drawing Directed Acyclic Graphs: Minimizing edge crossing?

    Laying out the verticies in a DAG in a tree form (i.e. verticies with no in-edges on top, verticies dependent only on those on the next level, etc.) is rather simple without graph drawing algorithms such as Efficient Sugimiya. However, is there a simple algorithm to do this that minimizes edge crossing? (For some graphs, it may be impossible to completely eliminate edge crossing.) A picture says a thousand words, so is there an algorithm that would suggest: instead of: EDIT: As the picture suggests, a vertex's inputs are always on top and outputs are always below, which is another barrier to just pasting in an existing layout algorithm.

  • EasyXDM passing data issue

    I'm using rpc with XDM, and I can send simple data back and forth easily between child and parent window. But it seems to be limited to simple strings and numbers. The demos on the site only use numbers. When I try to send a json ecoded string, I get a cross domain error. When I use cors, I can make ajax requests fine, but I can't display the child page in the iframe, because the data is returned and not rendered. My question is, how can I render an iframe, and pass complex data back and forth. Or maybe I am doing something wrong?

    Hello, According to RFC 2109, 2965 cookie's value can be either HTTP token or quoted string, and token can't include non-ASCII characters. Cookie's RFC 2109 and RFC2965 HTTP's RFC 2068 token definition: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2068#page-16 However I had found that Firefox browser (3.0.6) sends cookies with utf-8 string as-is and three web servers I tested (apache2, lighttpd, nginx) pass this string as-is to the application.     Can someone point me to where I can download English dictionary as a txt or xml file. I am building a simple app for myself and looking for something what I could start using immediately without learning complex API. Support for synonyms would be great, that is it should be easier to retrieve all the synonyms for particular word. It would be absolutely fantastic if dictionary would be listing British and American spelling of the words where they are differ. Even if it would be small dictionary (few 000's words) that's ok, I only need it for small project. I even would be willing to buy one if the price is reasonable, and dictionary is easy to use - simple xml wold be great. Any directions please.

    All I need is to check, using python, if a string is a valid math expression or not. For simplicity let's say I just need + - * / operators (+ - as unary too) with numbers and nested parenthesis. I add also simple variable names for completeness. So I can test this way: test("-3 * (2 + 1)") #valid test("-3 * ") #NOT valid test("v1 + v2") #valid test("v2 - 2v") #NOT valid ("2v" not a valid variable name) I tried pyparsing but just trying the example: "simple algebraic expression parser, that performs +,-,*,/ and ^ arithmetic operations" I get passed invalid code and also trying to fix it I always get wrong syntaxes being parsed without raising Exceptions just try: >>>test('9', 9) 9 qwerty = 9.0 ['9'] => ['9'] >>>test('9 qwerty', 9) 9 qwerty = 9.0 ['9'] => ['9'] both test pass... o_O Any advice?

  • Why is the software world full of status codes?

    Why did programmers ever start using status codes? I mean, I guess I could imagine this might be useful back in the days when a text string was an expensive resource. WAYYY back then. But even after we had megabytes of memory to work with, we continued to use them. What possible advantage could there be for obfuscating the meaning of an error message or status message behind a status code?

  • Porting Django's templates engine to C

    Hi folks, I recently wrote a simple and tiny embedded HTTP server for my C++ app (QT) and I played a little bit with Ry's http-parser and loved it. This guy is crazy. So I told to myself: "Hey! Why not port the django template engine to C?" That'd be awesome! I know, it won't be an easy task (not at all, I know) but I'd really love to implement this. So I came here for inspiration, ideas, opinions... I'd really love to have some pointers on the subject, ideas, what is already done, which major problems I'll encounter (and how to solve them) - How not to reinvent the wheel... anyway, you got the idea :) Thanks a million times! P.S. Simple code snippets, and links to tools and libs are very welcome! P.P.S. I'm already aware of grantlee, I took a look into its sources. Well... that's C++ and its specific to Qt.

  • LNK2001: What have I forgotton to set?

    Following on from my previous question regarding debugging of native code, I decided to create a simple test from a console app as I wasn't getting anywhere with debugging the service directly. So I created a vc6 console app, added the dll project to the workspace and ran it. Instead of executing as expected it spat out the following linker errors: main.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "int __stdcall hmDocumentLAdd(char *,char *,long,char *,char *,long,long,long,long *)" (?hmDocumentLAdd@@YGHPAD0J00JJJPAJ@Z) main.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "int __stdcall hmGetDocBasePath(char *,long)" (?hmGetDocBasePath@@YGHPADJ@Z) Debug/HazManTest.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 2 unresolved externals This seems to be a simple case of forgetting something in the linker options: However everything seems to be normal, and the lib file, dll and source is available. If I change the lib file to load to nonsense it kicks up the fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file "asdf.lib", so that isn't a problem. I have previously linked to dll and they have just worked, so what I have forgotton to do?

    I have a simple usercontrol that uses a simple custom panel where I just overrode the Orientation and Measure functions. What I want to do is to have a property in the usercontol to control the orientation So I basicaly have UserControl -- Listbox -- MyPanel And I want a property for the usercontrol that can be set in xaml (of type System.Windows.Controls.Orientation ) that I can bind to from my custom panel (or a different approach if binding isnt the right way to do it) It would be a bonus if that property could show up in the properties window and you could select vertical or horizontal. And a super bonus if I could change the property at design time and have the listbox/

  • Mac dashboard widgets not loading external images

    I set out to make a quick Mac OS X dashboard widget. I read the documentation and was pleased to find out they use simple HTML, JS, and CSS. I created my widget and it works when I open the .html file in Firefox, but it does not work when I install the widget to the dashboard. The widget is simple: it displays the most recent image from a weather web cam stream. The image URLs look like this: http://webcam.com/stream.jpg?1274213999617. The timestamp is appended to the URL and the server automatically responds with the latest image for that time. I did not write the server script. The widget appears to be loading correctly, but the web cam image will not load. Notice the blue question mark in the upper left. The image should appear over the square background image. Is there any special procedure for loading external images into a widget?
