    I have a j2ee application hosted on jboss and linux platform. When I try to access the application , I see following error in server.log file. ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified When I point the same jboss instance to a different schema, the application works fine. I tried to go through few forum and found that the NLS parameter settings are fine. Can anyone help.   • How to avoid this very heavy query that slows down the application?

    Hi, We have a web application running in a production enviroment and at some point the client complained about how slow the application got. When we checked what was going on with the application and the database we discover this "precious" query that was being executed by several users at the same time (thus inflicting an extremely high load on the database server): SELECT NULL AS table_cat, o.owner AS table_schem, o.object_name AS table_name, o.object_type AS table_type, NULL AS remarks FROM all_objects o WHERE o.owner LIKE :1 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_0" AND o.object_name LIKE :2 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_1" AND o.object_type IN(:"SYS_B_2", :"SYS_B_3") ORDER BY table_type, table_schem, table_name Our application does not execute this query, I believe it is an Hibernate internal query. I've found little information on why Hibernate does this extremely heavy query, so any help in how to avoid it very much appreciated! The production enviroment information: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 (Tikanga), JDK 1.5, web container OC4J (whitin Oracle Application Server), Oracle Database 10.1.0.4, JDBC Driver for JDK 1.2 and 1.3, Hibernate version 3.2.6.ga, connection pool library C3P0 version 0.9.1.   • Database server: Small quick RAM or large slow RAM?

    We are currently designing our new database servers, and have come up with a trade off I'm not entirely sure of how to answer. These are our options: 48GB 1333MHz, or 96GB 1066MHz. My thinking is that RAM should be plentiful for a Database Server (we have plenty and plenty of data, and some very large queries) rather than as quick as it could be. Apparently we can't get 16GB chips at 1333MHz, hence the choices above. So, should we get lots of slower RAM, or less faster RAM? Extra Info: Number of DIMM Slots Available: 6 Servers: Dell Blades CPU: 6 core (only single socket due to Oracle licensing).

  • VS 2010 Server Explorer Database Showing No Tables

    I'm working on a .Net application that needs to read from an Oracle 10g database behind Siebel. In VS 2010 Server Explorer, I've created a connection using the OracleClient type connector with a reference to the Oracle TNS service name as the "server name." The "Test Connection" button shows that the connection is successful. However, in the Server Explorer, when I go to expand the Tables, no tables are shown. I know for a fact that there are 3000+ tables in the database (thanks Siebel). Anyone know what's happening here? I'd like to create an Entity Framework 4.0 Entity Data Model... Thanks for the help!   • Add dpkg .symbols or.shlibs to package made using checkinstall

    I have created a simple package using checkinstall of the Oracle Instantclient client libraries, the package installs without problem and is seen in the system. Problem is, that checkinstall doesn't create /var/lib/dpkg/info/oracle-instantclient11.2-basic.symbols or /var/lib/dpkg/info/oracle-instantclient11.2-basic.shlibs files so when I try to create another package (with proper build scripts) that depends on oracle-instantclient11.2-basic the build fails with dpkg-shlibdeps: error: no dependency information found for \ /usr/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1 (used by \ debian/libopendbx1-oracle/usr/lib/opendbx/liboraclebackend.so.1.2.0). dh_shlibdeps: dpkg-shlibdeps \ -Tdebian/libopendbx1-oracle.substvars \ debian/libopendbx1-oracle/usr/lib/opendbx/liboraclebackend.so.1.2.0 \ returned exit code 2 make: *** [binary-arch] Error 9 Is there an easy way to automatically create a package with .symbols or .shlibs files?

    I've read some documentation about hadoop and seen the impressive results. I get the bigger picture but am finding it hard whether it would fit our setup. Question isnt programming related but I'm eager to get opinion of people who currently work with hadoop and how it would fit our setup: We use Oracle for backend Java (Struts2/Servlets/iBatis) for frontend Nightly we get data which needs to be summarized. this runs as a batch process (takes 5 hours) We are looking for a way to cut those 5 hours to a shorter time. Where would hadoop fit into this picture? Can we still continue to use Oracle even after hadoop?

    We build software using Hudson and Maven. We have C#, java and last, but not least PL/SQL sources (sprocs, packages, DDL, crud) For C# and Java we do unit tests and code analysis, but we don't really know the health of our PL/SQL sources before we actually publish them to the target database. Requirements There are a couple of things we wan't to test in the following priority: Are the sources valid, hence "compilable"? For packages, with respect to a certain database, would they compile? Code Quality: Do we have code flaws like duplicates, too complex methods or other violations to a defined set of rules? Also, the tool must run head-less (commandline, ant, ...) we wan't to do analysis on a partial code base (changed sources only) Tools We did a little research and found the following tools that could potencially help: Cast Application Intelligence Platform (AIP): Seems to be a server that grasps information about "anything". Couldn't find a console version that would export in readable format. Toad for Oracle: The Professional version is said to include something called Xpert validates a set of rules against a code base. Sonar + PL/SQL-Plugin: Uses Toad for Oracle to display code-health the sonar-way. This is for browsing the current state of the code base. Semantic Designs DMSToolkit: Quite general analysis of source code base. Commandline available? Semantic Designs Clones Detector: Detects clones. But also via command line? Fortify Source Code Analyzer: Seems to be focussed on security issues. But maybe it is extensible? more... So far, Toad for Oracle together with Sonar seems to be an elegant solution. But may be we are missing something here? Any ideas? Other products? Experiences?   • How do I supply extra info to IApplicationSettingsProvider class?

    Perhaps this question has been asked before in a different way, but I haven’t been able to find it. I have one or more plugin adapter assemblies in my application all having the type IPlugin, for instance. Each adapter has its own settings structures stored in a common directory. Whether they are stored in one contiguous file or in separate ones doesn’t matter. Each adapter can have one or more settings associated with it. The settings will have both a name and the Plugin it will be used for. How would I create such a configuration system using the following requirements: I want to use .NETs built in settings system and avoid writing one from scratch The host application will be responsible for locating the plugin settings and passing it to the plugin Each plugin will be responsible for reading and writing its own settings to separate concerns. The host application should call Plugin.Save(thePath) and it does its thing. All settings are user scoped So far, I realize that I would need to write my own SettingsProvider, but the provider seems to work in isolation in that there’s no way to pass it parameters such as the path of the plugin directory and the name of the settings. All of the example code I've seen has the provider getting the data from the runtime environment.

    I'm getting the infamous invalid number Oracle error. Hibernate is issuing an INSERT with a lot of columns, I want to know just the name of the column giving the problem. Is it possible? I hate Oracle messages, in 15 years they haven't improved a bit (the reason why is beyond my imagination).   • Do I always have to supply Tkx's -command argument with an anonymous subroutine?

    I find it a bit weird that I have to wrap defined subroutines anonymously when specifying the -command argument for Tkx widgets. The example from TkDocs demonstrates this: my $cb = $frm->new_ttk__button ( -text => "Calculate", -command => sub {calculate();} ); sub calculate { $meters = int(0.3048*$feet*10000.0+.5)/10000.0 || ''; } Why doesn't it work when I write -command => &calculate() or -command => \&calculate()?

Details: - os - free edition of oracle enterprise linux 5 - Apache / mod_wsgi - python - custom python2.6 installation - oracle db with cx_Oracle What is the simplest way to set it up? Would you recommend creating a system user for the django project and use daemon mode? What type of user and what privileges does it need? Can I set ORACLE_HOME, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH for this user? Would you use a virtualenv for cx_Oracle? Can I somehow put the python2.6 inside the virtualenv so it will portable to other servers? Thanks

    I am trying to communicate a numerical matrix operations library like LAPACK with any DBMS. Is it possible to send/receive complete matrices as binary or as a direct memory pointers to process them (it will be something like: The Outside library processes data stored in DBMS, then it computes some huge matrix stuff and then via memory block or a binary DBMS get the result from library)? The main purpose is speed and avoid passing through a flat file, and last but not least, use library toefficiently do some operations DBMS are not designed to. * Is it possible that Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL support this technique?.

  • WPF - Why doesn't Microsoft supply a decent set of most-used controls ?

    I've been playing with WPF for some months now, and I quite like it. But one of the things I don't get is why MS doesn't put a little more effort in helping developers by supplying basic controls, and I need to get this off my chest :) For example, I figure most applications somewhere will need to let you edit some properties - for configuration or whatever. What would be the most used types in a proprety-grid editor ? text numbers (byte, float/double, int, etc) colors ....etc. So why isn't there even something as simple as a control to edit numbers ? Like a generic NumericUpDown control that allows you to type in numbers (no text, no pasting invalid input) or spin them up/down according to some given rules (decimal, floating point, min/maxvalue) ? Why isn't there a generic colorpicker, so people get the same user-experience in every application ? Why isn't there a standard implementation of a SearchTextBox, a BreadCrumb-control, or all these other standard control types users have gotten accustomed to the last 10 years ? (..but at least they DID have the time to implement a generic splashscreen - because everyone knows that greatly increases user-productivity....) The well-known ideal is always to give people the same user-experience over different applications. So even if some of those controls would be easy to make - it would be preferred to have one version over different applications. I see people all over the internet trying to do the same stuff over and over again. Okay, so MS started a WPF Toolkit project on Codeplex that tries to implement some controls, but only did so half-heartedly and is completely dead by now (last update of the roadmap dates back to Mar 21 2009). The result of this is that a lot of people starting a WPF-project end up spending a lot of time on trying to figure out how to create some generic controls and get really frustrated. Wasn't the mantra "Developers, developers, developers!" ..? /Rant

    I'm looking for advice on how to enable our team to take down and re-start our company systems for maintainance purposes. The scenario includes several Oracle db machines several MS SQL Server machines with multiple instances windows services (IIS etc.) BizTalk EAI solution Apache and Tomcat instances lots of scheduled tasks on win2003 and win2008 machines (physical and virtual). The main focus is on capture all dependencies between said databases and services and tasks connecting to them. At the moment an enterprise class solution is not an option. We are considering developing a solution driven by PowerShell scripts but I hope for some more suggestions.

    Hi, I have an SSRS report , Oracle is my backend and am using this following query for dataset of my second parameter. select distinct X from v_stf_sec_user_staffing_center usc where usc.center_group_id in ( select distinct center_group_id from V_T_STAFFING_CENTER_GROUP scg where INSTR(','||REPLACE(:PI_REGION_LIST,' ')||',', ','||scg.group_abbreviation||',') 0) and usc.nt_user_name=:PI_NT_USER_NAME Here PI_REGION_LIST is a multivalued parameter of string type. and PI_NT_USER_NAME is a default string valued parameter this query works fine when i try to execute in manulally in the Data tab , also in the Oracle tool. But when i run the report in SSRS and select more than 3 values for the parameter PI_REGION_LIST the report throws an error on this dataset, ora-00939 error,too many arguments for function. I am not able to figure out the error here. Please help me with an idea. Thanks in advance, Suni.

  • ASP.NET Connection time out after being idle for a while

    My ASP.NET website while trying to connect to the database for first time after a period of inactivity throws an time out exception. I understand the connections in the connection pool get terminated after some idle time for some reason (Firewall or Oracle settings) and the pool or app doesn't have a clue about it. Is there any way to validate the connection beforehand so that the first try doesn't throw an exception? I don't have much control over the DB or Firewall settings. So I have to deal with this is my application.(would prefer if there is any web.config settings) I am using: ASP.NET 2.0. Oracle server 11g, Microsoft Enterprise Library DAAB to do all my DB operations. I did some search on this topic but didnt find any solid solution for this yet :(

  • How do I chain forms in Access? (pass values between them)

    Hello, I'm using Access 2007 and have a data model like this... Passenger - Bookings - Destinations So 1 Passenger can have Many Bookings, each for 1 Destinations. My problem... I can create a form to allow the entry of Passenger details, but I then want to add a NEXT button to take me to a form to enter the details of the Booking (i.e. just a simple drop list of the Destinations). I've added the NEXT button and it has the events of RunCommand SaveRecord OpenForm Destination_form BUT, I cant work out how to pass accross to the new form the primary key of the passenger that was just entered (PassengerID). I'd really like to have just one form, and that allow the entry of the Passenger details and the selection of a Destination, that then creates the entries in the 2 Tables (Passenger & Bookings), but I can't get that to work either.
