• AES Encryption. From Python (pyCrypto) to .NET

  I am currently trying to port a legacy Python app over to .NET which contains AES encrpytion using from what I can tell pyCrpyto. I have very limited Python and Crypto experience. The code uses the snippet from the following page. http://www.djangosnippets.org/snippets/1095/ So far I believe I have managed to work out that it that it calls Crypto.Cipher with AES and the first 32 character of our secret key as the password, but no mode or IV. It also puts a prefix on the encrpyed text when it is added to database. What I can't work out is how I can decrypt the existing ecrypted database records in .NET. I have been looking at RijndaelManaged but it requires an IV and can't see any reference to one in python. Can anyone point me in the dirrection to what method could be used in .NET to get the desired result.

  Has anybody some information about accessing Lotus Domino server to fetch entire mail contents by http(s) requests from php linux server? The article by Andrei Kouvchinnikov describes well how to fetch message list in notes mail folders; after obtaining session id during login one can for example select top 100 messages by calling: https://your.server.domain/mail_db/mailbox.nsf/($Inbox)?ReadViewEntries&Start=1&Count=100 And this works perfectly. The arises when I am trying to get message contents (0A1DA5EEB7B65277C12576F50055D811 is an example message unique Id): https://your.server.domain/mail_db/mailbox.nsf/($Inbox)/0A1DA5EEB7B65277C12576F50055D811/?OpenDocument Such request in IE shows frameset with data hard to parse, in less common browsers like Opera it informs about unsupported browser. Ideally if it is possible to fetch notes message contents and all attachments by requesting it in the url, has anybody some information what request would it be? • Regex to detect a proper permalink?

My dilemma is basically; I need to detect an empty link in order so I can feed a robots no index meta tag in the case of: page.php?permalink=events page.php?permalink=events/ page.php?permalink=ru/events/ page.php?permalink=ru/events I can't use a simple pattern such as [a-zA-Z]+\/?(.+)/ since it won't work on the i18n permalinks. What regex could I use which would detect this, using $_GET['permalink'] as the reference to the permalinks? And avoid false positives? Update: Empty link means there's no fragment after the "events/" part.   I don't like real-time debugging much, but if it's necessary I'll do it. Is there any way to figure out what line of code a StackTrace in Objective-C refers to? What about the variable it refers to?   My web app solution consists of 3 projects: Web App (ASP.NET MVC) Business Logic Layer (Class Library) Database Layer (Entity Framework) I want to use Ninject to manage the lifetime of the DataContext generated by the Entity Framework in the Database Layer. The Business Logic layer consists of classes which reference repositories (located in the database layer) and my ASP.NET MVC app references the business logic layer's service classes to run code. Each repository creates an instance of the MyDataContext object from the Entity Framework Repository public class MyRepository { private MyDataContext db; public MyRepository { this.db = new MyDataContext(); } // methods } Business Logic Classes public class BizLogicClass { private MyRepository repos; public MyRepository { this.repos = new MyRepository(); } // do stuff with the repos } Will Ninject handle the lifetime of MyDataContext despite the lengthy dependency chain from the Web App to the Data Layer?

• Microsoft signed driver appears as publisher not verfied

  Task at hand: Microsoft sign drivers on Win 7. I microsoft signed my driver package 3 times every time thinking I might have missed a step or something. However, I cannot seem to get rid of the Windows Security error message "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software'. This is not the first time I have signed the driver packages. I was successfully able to sign other driver packages a few months ago. However, with this driver package I keep getting Windows security dialog box. Here's the procedure I follow - Create a new cat file using INF2CAT tool. Self sign the driver using a Versign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5.cer. Run the microsoft tests on DTM Servers and clients with the devices that use this driver. Create WLK submission package. Self sign the cab file. Submit the package for certification. The catalog file that comes back after successfully passing tests says Name of signer "Microsoft Windows Hardware Comptibility Publisher". When I check the validity of signature using SignTool, it says the signature is vaild. However, when I try to install the driver with new signed catalog file the windows complain. Any ideas? Edit 11/12/2012: Reply to Eugene's comment Thanks for the help, Eugene. Yes. I did sign two other driver packages before. One of them was modified version of WinUSB driver. I am using the same certificate I used when I signed those two driver packages a few months ago. It costs $250 per signing from Microsoft. I would think that Microsoft would complain about it during certification if the certificate is wrong. I use the following command to self sign the CAT file. • [Python] Detect destination of shortened, or "tiny" url

  I have just scraped a bunch of Google Buzz data, and I want to know which Buzz posts reference the same news articles. The problem is that many of the links in these posts have been modified by URL shorteners, so it could be the case that many distinct shortened URLs actually all point to the same news article. Given that I have millions of posts, what is the most efficient way (preferably in python) for me to detect whether a url is a shortened URL (from any of the many URL shortening services, or at least the largest) Find the "destination" of the shortened url, i.e., the long, original version of the shortened URL. Does anyone know if the URL shorteners impose strict request rate limits? If I keep this down to 100/second (all coming form the same IP address), do you think I'll run into trouble?

• How to debug unreleased COM references from managed code?

  I have been searching for a tool to debug unreleased COM references, that usually cause e.g. Word/Outlook processes to hang in memory in case the code does not call Marshal.ReleaseCOMObject on all COM instances correctly. (Outlook 2007 partially fixes this for outlook addins, but this is a generic question). Is there a tool that would display at least a list of COM references (by type) held by managed code? Ideally, it would also display memory profiler-style object trees helping to debug where the reference increment occured. Debugging at runtime is not that important as being able to attach to a hung process - because the problem typically occurs when the code is done with the COM interface and someone forgot to release something - the application (e.g. winword) hangs in memory even after the calling managed application quits. If such tool does not exist, what is the (technical?) reason? It would be very useful for debugging a lot of otherwise very hard to find problems when working with COM interop.

  I know this is not a Drupal forum but this forum is quick at responding so I thought I should give it a shot. Here's my problem. I'm trying to insert reference to the javascript file in the header by using drupal_add_js function. I placed this line inside template preprocess function of template.php. The result....is not working at all. There is no script link in output as it should be. Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? • HTML 5: Is it <br> <br/> or <br />?

  I've tried checking other answers, but I'm still confused--especially after seeing W3schools HTML 5 reference. I thought HTML 4.01 was supposed to "allow" single-tags to just be <img> and <br>. Then XHTML came along with <img /> and <br /> (where someone said that the space is there for older browsers). Now I'm wondering how I'm supposed to format my code when practicing HTML 5. <!DOCTYPE HTML> Is it <br>, <br/> or <br />?

• Hardest javascript debugging problem ever

  We have an ASP.NET application and when running on client site they often get null reference Javascript errors. As with all these errors the information IE6 displays is less than helpful. But the problem is as soon as I install IE script debugger and try and debug a bit more the error becomes non-reproducible.When script debugger is not installed then the error occurs again. Are there any other tools that could be helpful for javascript debugging on client site. The error is also not produced with IE7 or Firefox.

• How well are SVG filter elements defined?

  We are considering using SVG filters as part of our toolchain, serving the SVG to browsers capable of supporting it, while serving pre-rendered PNGs to other. One problem we noticed is that the rendering of the filter chains seems to be very inconsistent across renderers. When looking at the "filters01" example from the SVG specification, the rendering looks very different across the tools we tried. Chrome (5.0.307.11) failed to render the image, while other tools (Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.10, Inkscape 0.47, GIMP 2.6.7) render something vaguely similar in style to the picture in the specification, but no two are truly the same. Is that an issue of under-specification or are the tools just not there? If we would use SVG with filter effects: is there a reference tool that can give us a rendering the way it is intended by the spec?

  I am looking for a way to embed a blog engine into my own application and I am too curious about Blog Engine algorithm. This may not be the correct place to ask but, How is that possible to store blog entry data in an XML file like BlogEngine.Net with Default Configuration. It must be getting slower everyday while the file is getting larger and larger. I am wondering the algorithm behind that. Is it loading with a different way ? Or Am I wrong with the time estimation ? I know it is open source but I thought it would be better to see a discussion here for some others might be thinking the same and this thread can be a reference.

• Visual studio winform designer shows design errors as text rather than html

  All of the sudden, visual studio displays designer errors as plain html text, for example: <DIV id="div1" class="ErrorStyle" width="100%"><span style="font-weight: 600"><br>Object reference not set to an instance of an object. </span><br><a href="" instead of displaying the usual html formatted. I haven't been able to find anything similar to it on google. Before getting this problem, when I tried opening the winform designer, I would get the run/save/cancel dialog of internet explorer for a .tmp file, instead of the designer window. That went away when I found out that I had notepad assigned to the .tmp file type and removed that. Any ideas how to fix this?

• How can I stop sorl thumbnail from breaking with very long filenames?

  I've noticed that when working with SORL thumbnail, sometimes a user will upload an image with a very long filename, longer than the varfield in the database can hold. The name gets truncated in the database and the project gives errors whenever the image is requested. Is there a smart and safe way to have django automatically truncate long filenames in sorl uploads (prior to saving them in the database) to prevent this sort of thing? • Populating an association with children in factory_girl

  I have a model Foo that has_many 'Bar'. I have a factory_girl factory for each of these objects. The factory for Bar has an association to Foo; it will instantiate a Foo when it creates the Bar. I'd like a Factory that creates a Foo that contains a Bar. Ideally this Bar would be created through the :bar factory, and respect the build strategy (create/build) used to create the Foo. I know I could just call the :bar factory and then grab the Foo reference from the new Bar. I'd like to avoid this; in my test case, the important object is Foo; calling the Bar factory seems a bit circuitous. Also, I can see the need for a Foo with multiple Bars. Is this possible in factory_girl? How do you define this relationship in the parent?

  Is there a built-in schema datatype for xhtml data? Suppose I want to specify a "boozle" element that contains two "woozles", each of which is arbitrary xhtml. I want to write something like this, using the relax NG compact syntax: namespace nifty = "http://brinckerhoff.org/nifty/" start = element nifty:boozle {woozle, woozle} woozle = element nifty:woozle {xhtml} Unfortunately, xmllint then signals this error: ./lab.rng:43: element ref: Relax-NG parser error : Reference xhtml has no matching definition ./lab.rng:43: element ref: Relax-NG parser error : Internal found no define for ref xhtml So my question is this: is there something sensible that I should put in place of "xhtml" above?

• What add-in/workbench framework is the best .NET alternative to Eclipse RCP?

  I'm looking for a plugin-based application framework that is comparable to the Eclipse Plugin Framework, which to my simple mind consists of: a core plugin management framework (Equinox / OSGI), which provides the ability to declare extension endpoints and then discover and load plugins that service those endpoints. (this is different than Dependency Injection, but admittedly the difference is subtle - configuration is highly de-centralized, there are versioning concerns, it might involve an online plugin repository, and most importantly to me, it should be easy for the user to add plugins without needing to know anything about the underlying architecture / config files) many layers of plugins that provide a basic workbench shell with concurrency support, commands, preference sheets, menus, toolbars, key bindings, etc. That is just scratching the surface of the RCP, which itself is meant to serve as the foundation of your application, which you build by writing / assembling even more plugins. Here's what I've gleaned from the internet in the past couple of days... As far as I can tell, there is nothing in the .NET world that remotely approaches the robustness and maturity of the Eclipse RCP for Java but there are several contenders that do either #1 or #2 pretty well. (I should also mention that I have not made a final decision on WinForms vs WPF, so I'm also trying to understand the level of UI coupling in any candidate framework. I'm also wondering about platform coupling and source code licensing) I must say that the open-source stuff is generally less-documented but easier to understand, while the MS stuff typically has more documentation but is less accessible, so that with many of the MS technologies, I'm left wondering what they actually do, in a practical sense. These are the libraries I have found: SharpDevelop The first thing I looked at was SharpDevelop, which does both #1 and also #2 in a basic way (no insult to SharpDevelop, which is admirable - I just mean more basic than Eclipse RCP). However, SharpDevelop is an application more than a framework, and there are basic assumptions and limitations there (i.e. being somewhat coupled to WinForms). Still, there are some articles on CodeProject explaining how to use it as the foundation for an application. System.Addins It appears that System.Addins is meant to provide a robust add-in loading framework, with some sophisticated options for loading assemblies with varying levels of trusts and even running the out of process. It appears to be primarily code-based, and pretty code-heavy, with lots of assemblies that serve to insulate against versioning issues., using Guidance Automation to generate a good deal of code. So far I haven't found many System.AddIns articles that illustrate how it could be used to build something like an Eclipse RCP, and many people seem to be wringing their hands about its complexity. Mono.Addins It appears that Mono.Addins was influenced by System.Addins, SharpDevelop, and MonoDevelop. It seems to provide the basics from System.Addins, with less sophisticated options for plugin loading, but more simplicity, with attribute-based registration, XML manifests, and the infrastructure for online plugin repositories. It has a pretty good FAQ and documentation, as well as a fairly robust set of examples that really help paint a picture of how to develop an architecture like that of SharpDevelop or Eclipse. The examples use GTK for UI, but the framework itself is not coupled to GTK. So it appears to do #1 (add-in loading) pretty well and points the way to #2 (workbench framework). It appears that Mono.Addins was derived from MonoDevelop, but I haven't actually looked at whether MonoDevelop provides a good core workbench framework. Managed Extensibility Framework This is what everyone's talking about at the moment, and it's slowly getting clearer what it does, but I'm still pretty fuzzy, even after reading several posts on SO. The official word is that it "can live side-by-side" with System.Addins. However, it doesn't reference it and it appears to reproduce some of its functionality. It seems to me, then, that it is a simpler, more accessible alternative to System.Addins. It appears to be more like Mono.Addins in that it provides attribute-based wiring. It provides "catalogs" that can be attribute-based or directory-based. It does not seem to provide any XML or manifest-based wiring. So far I haven't found much documentation and the examples seem to be kind of "magical" and more reminiscent of attribute-based DI, despite the clarifications that MEF is not a DI container. Its license just got opened up, but it does reference WindowsBase -- not sure if that means it's coupled to Windows. Acropolis I'm not sure what this is. Is it MEF, or something that is still coming? Composite Application Blocks There are WPF and Winforms Composite Application blocks that seem to provide much more of a workbench framework. I have very little experience with these but they appear to rely on Guidance Automation quite a bit are obviously coupled with the UI layers. There are a few examples of combining MEF with these application blocks. I've done the best I could to answer my own question here, but I'm really only scratching the surface, and I don't have experience with any of these frameworks. Hopefully some of you can add more detail about the frameworks you have experience with. It would be great if we could end up with some sort of comparison matrix.

• DataBinding a DropDownList in ASP.NET MVC 2

  I'm extremely frustrated trying to switch to MVC after a couple years of webforms development. Here's my extremely simple problem that I can't manage to solve: I have a list of States in a table called StateProvince. I have a DropDownList. I want the DropDownList to display all of the States in the StateProvince table and post the selected state back on HTTP PUT. This is what I'm doing: <%: Html.DropDownListFor(model = model.StateProvinceId, new SelectList(Model.StateProvinces, "StateProvinceId", "Name") )% I'm getting an Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Why? How can I make this work? Keep it simple, I know nothing about MVC.

• NuGet: "Unable to load one or more of the requested types"

  I installed NuGet into Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, but when I go to Solution Explorer, right-click on a project's "References" folder, and select "Add Library Package Reference", I immediately get this error: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. There's just an OK button, and no way for me to retrieve the additional information it's telling me about. This is a fresh install of NuGet; I've never installed it on this computer before. How can I fix and/or diagnose this error so I can get NuGet to work?

• Using an XML Catalog with a Java library that uses JAXP internally

  I'm using the Apache web service xml rpc library to make requests to an rpc service. Somewhere in that process is a xml document with a DTD reference to http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd, which the library attempts to download when parsing the XML. That download fails with a 503 status code because the w3c is blocking repeated downloads of this largely static document from Java clients. The solution is XML Catalogs to locally cache the DTD. However, while I can find examples of setting an EntityHandler on a JAXP SAXParser instance directly to enable catalog parser support, I don't actually have access to the underlying parser here. It's just being used by the xml rpc library. Is there any way I can set a global property or something that will tell JAXP to use XML catalogs?
