    How to create a unique constraint on a varchar(max) field in visual studio, visually. the problem is when i try it: manage indexes and keys add columns I can only chose the bigint columns, but not any of the varchar(max) ones.     Jesus, Krishna, Budda! I've migrated to EntLib 5.0, but classes like ISymmetricCryptoProvider are not recognized anymore. Funny to say that Data, Logging and other blocks are working compiling fine.   • Visual Studio / Blend... how you organize that?

    Virst time more complex stuff in WPF. I am a little lost on the split betwen VS and Blend. It seems I am VERY limited with editors in Visual Studio for editing controls - when customizing, for example, it seems I Can enter astyle in XML... but in blend I Can tell it to make a copy of the CURRENT style and use that as a starter, definitely more convenient. I understand the "difference in focus", but it seems to me that i Really need both tools to work, especially if the controls I Do are: More complex Not user controls "on purpose" (to allow more customization by programmes using the application). THis means when I do a control, my approach would be: Work on the backend as good as it gets without front end (i.e. implement all methods needed etc., but can be dummies) Switch over to Blend (closing visual studio - as the projcet must be closed) Put in the initial templating Switch over to VIsual Studio (closing blend) Put logic in and debug. This seems pretty counterintuitively. Am I missing something obvious here?

    I'm using MSSQLExpress named instance in my Silverlight 4 application. The database located in the web application data folder. I attached the db via VS2010. The program works, but the db doesn't show up in Management Studio Express. If I delete the connection from within VS2010, and Try to attach to db via Management Studio Express, on writes, that the database with same the name already exists. Why the database connected via VS2010 doesn't show up in Management Studio Express? Thanks in advance Gabor

  • How to do some preformance testing in asp.net mvc?

    Hi I am using asp.net mvc 2.0 and I want to test how long it takes to do some of my code. In one senario I do this load xml file up. validate xml file and deserailze. validate all rows in the xml file with more advanced validation that cannot be done in the schema validation. then I do a bulk insert. I want to know how long steps 1 to 3 take and how long step 4 takes. I tried to do like DateTime.UtcNow in areas and subtract them but it told me it took like 3 seconds but I know that is not right as steps 1 to 4 take 2mins to do.

    Hello, I have a process within my MVC 2 application that takes a large amount of time and alters many rows in the database in the process. There is a chance that two or more users could attempt to perform this action at the same time, which would lead to undesirable effects. Is there a way to set a global flag somewhere within asp.net that I can check against all requests to see if the action in question is currently being executed? (a bit that I flip prior to running query, and then then flip back on completition) Or is there a better way of handling this situation? Thanks

  • SSIS Custom Control Task Debugging UI in BIDS and VS

    I've created a SSIS Custom Task in C# and I'm currently developing the UI. I was wondering if there is a better way of debugging the UI instead of compiling the project, copying the DLL's into the appropriate DTS folder and then opening the test Package within BIDS and then attaching the process to Visual Studio. This part I'm not bothered about but once you've tested the UI and made changes to UI within Visual Studio. I've got to recomplile the DLL's and then repeat the entire process. I've got to close BIDS and VS because they don't release the DLL's before I have to start the entire process over again. Does anyone have any tips to speed up this process. It's just so frustrating having to do this everytime.

    Is there a limit to the amount of inserts you can do within an Access transaction before you need to commit or before Access/Jet throws an error? I'm currently running the following code in hopes to determine what this maximum is.     Hello everyone - I have this treeview control where I want to put uploaded files on the server. I want to be able to create the nodes and the child nodes dynamically from the database. I am using this query for getting the data from DB: SELECT c.Category, d.DocumentName FROM Categories c INNER JOIN DocumentUserFile d ON c.ID = d.CategoryId WHERE d.UserId = '9rge333a-91b5-4521-b3e6-dfb49b45237c' The result from that query is this one: Agendas transactions.pdf Minutes accounts.pdf I want to have the treeview sorted that way too. I am trying with this piece of code: TreeNode tn = new TreeNode(); TreeNode tnSub = new TreeNode(); foreach (DataRow dt in tblTreeView.Rows) { tn.Text = dt[0].ToString(); tn.Value = dt[0].ToString(); tnSub.Text = dt[1].ToString(); tnSub.NavigateUrl = "../downloading.aspx?file=" + dt[1].ToString() +"&user=" + userID; tn.ChildNodes.Add(tnSub); tvDocuments.Nodes.Add(tn); } I am getting the treeview populated nicely for the 1st category and the document under that category, but I can't get it to work when I want to show more documents under that category, or even more complicate to show new category beneath the 1st one with documents from that category.   • Ignoring generated files when using "Treat warnings as errors"

    We have started a new project but also have this problem for an existing project. The problem is that when we compile with a warning level of 4 we also want to switch on 'Treat all warnings as errors' We are unable to do this at the moment because generated files (in particular reference.cs files) are missing things like XML comments and this generates a warning, we do not want to suppress the xml comment warnings totally out of all files just for specific types of files (namely generated code). I have thought of a way this could be achieved but am not sure if these are the best way to do this or indeed where to start :) My thinking is that we need to do something with T4 templates for the code that is generated such that it does fill in XML documentation for generated code. Does anyone have any ideas, currently I'm at well over 2k warnings (its a big project) :(

    hope you can help me out with this one. I'm new to c# so am very inexperienced. But basically I'm trying to make a game in which certain objects fall from the sky. Some objects like feathers take a while to drop, while metal balls will drop faster. You start off with a certain amount of cash and can buy weapons of your choice to place on the ground below. Now I've never done anything to do with collisions before, so simple answers will be of much help! Here are some of the collisions that will be in the game: (Not sure if different types of collisions are coded differently) -Collision between bullets and falling objects -Collision between falling objects and the ground (which is inanimate) -Collisions between falling objects and a certain radius around another object (for example, if a weapon gives off a radiation beam starting from its centre) -Collisions between rotating objects (rotating blade) and falling objects If someone could help me with this, it would be much appreciated!

  • Why is my substitution control suddenly not working in ASP.NET 4.0?

    I just upgraded my site from ASP.NET 3.5 to 4.0. I've been working through some breaking changes (there were more than I expected). One I can't figure out, however, is why my <asp:Substitution /> control suddenly stopped working like it should. It's supposed to ignore the output cache settings of the parent page and update upon every request. For some reason that isn't happening. It's caching for the full 10 minutes (the OutputCache setting for my home page). Any ideas?

  • CUDA & VS2010 problem

    I have scoured the internets looking for an answer to this one, but couldn't find any. I've installed the CUDA 3.2 SDK (and, just now, CUDA 4.0 RC) and everything seems to work fine after long hours of fooling around with include directories, NSight, and all the rest. Well, except this one thing: it keeps highlighting the <<< >>> operator as a mistake. Only on VS2010--not on VS2008. On VS2010 I also get several warnings of the following sort: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\xdebug(109): warning C4251: 'std::_String_val<_Ty,_Alloc>::_Alval' : class 'std::_DebugHeapAllocator<_Ty>' needs to have dll-interface to be used by clients of class 'std::_String_val<_Ty,_Alloc>' Anyone know how this can be fixed?
