• C++ gdb GUI

  Briefly: Does anyone know of a GUI for gdb that brings it on par or close to the feature set you get in the more recent version of Visual C++? In detail: As someone who has spent a lot of time programming in Windows, one of the larger stumbling blocks I've found whenever I have to code C++ in Linux is that debugging anything using commandline gdb takes me several times longer than it does in Visual Studio, and it does not seem to be getting better with practice. Some things are just easier or faster to express graphically. Specifically, I'm looking for a GUI that: Handles all the basics like stepping over & into code, watch variables and breakpoints Understands and can display the contents of complex & nested C++ data types Doesn't get confused by and preferably can intelligently step through templated code and data structures while displaying relevant information such as the parameter types Can handle threaded applications and switch between different threads to step through or view the state of Can handle attaching to an already-started process or reading a core dump, in addition to starting the program up in gdb If such a program does not exist, then I'd like to hear about experiences people have had with programs that meet at least some of the bullet points. Does anyone have any recommendations? Edit: Listing out the possibilities is great, and I'll take what I can get, but it would be even more helpful if you could include in your responses: (a) Whether or not you've actually used this GUI and if so, what positive/negative feedback you have about it. (b) If you know, which of the above-mentioned features are/aren't supported Lists are easy to come by, sites like this are great because you can get an idea of people's personal experiences with applications.

• A specific data structure

  Well, this question is a bit specific but I think there is some general idea in it that I can't get it. Lets say I got K servers (which is a constant that I know its size). I have a program that get requests and every request has an id and server id that will handle it. I have n requests - unknown size and can be any number. I need a data structure to support the next operations within the given complexity: GetServer - the function gets the request ID and returns the server id that is supposed to handle this request at the current situation and not necessarily the original server (see below). Complexity: O(log K) at average. KillServer - the function gets as input a server id that should be removed and another server id that all the requests of the removed server should be passed to. Complexity: O(1) at the worst case. -- Place complexity for all the structure is O(K+n) -- The KillServer function made me think using a Union-Find as I can do the union in O(1) as requested but my problem is the first operation. Why it's LogK? Actually, no matter how I "save" the requests if I want to access to any request (lets say it's an AVL tree) so the complexity will be O(log n) at the worst case and said that I can't assume Kn (and probably K Tried thinking about it a couple of hours but I can't find any solution. Known structures that can be used are: B+ tree, AVL tree, skip list, hash table, Union-Find, rank tree and of course all the basics like arrays and such.

• Jquery - removing an image before the client browser attempts to download it

  Hi there, I wonder if anyone could help me with a problem I've been having. I have a number of large images available, but due to space limitations, I can't create multiple copies of these at various sizes. I have used PHP GD functions to resize the images to the sizes I need and output them to the browser. This works, but obviously takes some processing time, which therefore impacts pages load times. I'm fine with this, but I only want to show the image once it's fully loaded, and have a loading gif in its place until that time. I'm using jquery to do this. The problem I'm having is making the page functional whether the client has javascript enabled or not. If JS is not enabled, I want standard img tags to be outputted, otherwise the images are removed and replaced with a loading gif until they have been fully loaded. The link below shows a simple non-javascript unfriendly example of a what I want to do (try turning JS off): http://jqueryfordesigners.com/demo/image-load-demo.php I've been testing the basics using the code below. The attr() function will be replaced with something like remove(). This is just a test to make something happen to the image before the browser tries to load it. $(document).ready(function() { $( "#Thumbnails .thumbnail img" ).attr('src', '#'); }); In IE, this works correctly - the image source is replaced with "#" BEFORE the client browser gets a chance to start downloading the image. In firefox however, it downloads the image, and THEN changes the source. It seems to me that firefox is loading the jquery onready event later than it should. As far as I know, this should be executed before the standard onload event and before anything has started loading. If it helps, I'm testing it with a good number of images on screen (81). Am I doing something wrong?

• Creating a image viewer window controll.

  I am learning GDI+ and I am trying to make a display window with scroll bars (so I can only see part of the image at a time and I can scroll around it). I have read through the basics of GDI+ from several books but I have not found any good tutorials online or in books available to me about doing more advanced things like this. Any recommendations on guides or example code on how do do this?   Hi everyone, I've already asked this question, but it's still too unclear to me, and it seems people haven't understood what I'm trying to do, so I'll try and be clearer. What I would like to be able to do, is modify the values of the "nip", "code", and "naissance" fields with text (for example, code being "majuif"). <input type=password name=code size=8 maxlength=8> <input type=password name=nip size=8 maxlength=8> <input type=password name=naissance size=8 maxlength=8> However, I don't know how to do that. And this is my problem. Should I write another HTML file - I don't know if the word "macro" can be used for that, but I'm pretty sure it can - and insert JavaScript in it? • Guidance on E-commerce in a Python Framework

  I am looking for guidance in making decisions on using Python for E-commerce. My reasoning to use Python in the first place is i do a lot of 3D so it's a real help to use Python for web server side as well as 3D so I do not need to learn a new language. When I say E-commerce i mean the logic behind displaying products and a check out system that is Robust....and yes I really want to build this myself so I can change it. I do not want to use an out the box solution that costs a lot of money every month. I want control of server side, data bases, e-commerce etc. My questions are: What Frameworks are out there? I looked at previous questions on stackoverflow but only found old posts about Sachmo and Get paid. What is the learning path, I do not want to make a mistake that costs six months of studying? Python then Django? How long if I spent 10 hours a day studying this would it take to get up and running? I write javaScript badly, so I am not a complete noob, I understand the basics of programming languages. many thanks in advance

• Find Lines with N occurrences of a char

  I have a txt file that I’m trying to import as flat file into SQL2008 that looks like this: “123456”,”some text” “543210”,”some more text” “111223”,”other text” etc… The file has more than 300.000 rows and the text is large (usually 200-500 chars), so scanning the file by hand is very time consuming and prone to error. Other similar (and even more complex files) were successfully imported. The problem with this one, is that “some lines” contain quotes in the text… (this came from an export from an old SuperBase DB that didn’t let you specify a text quantifier, there’s nothing I can do with the file other than clear it and try to import it). So the “offending” lines look like this: “123456”,”this text “contains” a quote” “543210”,”And the “above” text is bad” etc… You can see the problem here. Now, 300.000 is not too much if I could perform a search using a text editor that can use regex, I’d manually remove the quotes from each line. The problem is not the number of offending lines, but the impossibility to find them with a simple search. I’m sure there are less than 500, but spread those in a 300.000 lines txt file and you know what I mean. Based upon that, what would be the best regex I could use to identify these lines? My first thought is: Tell me which lines contain more than 4 quotes (“). But I couldn’t come up with anything (I’m not good at Regex beyond the basics).

• Scheme Homework Assignment

  In a course I am taking we recently had to learn the programming language Scheme. I get all of the basics, which is pretty much all that we have gone though. I'm just having trouble learning to think in the different way that Scheme consists of. I was given an assignment and really do not even know how to start. I have sat here for a few hours trying to figure out how to even get started, but I'm kind of stumped. For the record, I'm not asking for the code to solve this problem, but more of some thoughts to get me on the right track. Anyway, here is the gist of the assignment... We are given a list of ten numbers that represent a voter's votes. The numbers are -1, 0 or 1. Then we are given a list of lists of Candidates, with a name and then ten numbers corresponding to that candidate's votes. These numbers are also -1 0 and 1. So for example. '(0 0 0 -1 -1 1 0 1 0 -1) '(Adams 0 1 -1 0 1 1 0 -1 -1 0 0) We are asked to implement a function called best_candidates that will take in a list of numbers (Voter) and a list of lists of Candidates. Then we have to compare the votes of the voter against the list of each candidate and return a list of names with the most common votes. So far, I've come up with a few things. I'm just confused on how I will check the values and retain the name of the voter? I guess I'm still stuck in thinking C/Java and it's making this very tough. Any suggestions to help get me started?

  I am having issues with a port scanner I'm editing to use threads. • C vs C++ function questions

  I am learning C, and after starting out learning C++ as my first compiled language, I decided to "go back to basics" and learn C. There are two questions that I have concerning the ways each language deals with functions. Firstly, why does C "not care" about the scope that functions are defined in, whereas C++ does? For example, int main() { donothing(); return 0; } void donothing() { } the above will not compile in a C++ compiler, whereas it will compile in a C compiler. Why is this? Isn't C++ mostly just an extension on C, and should be mostly "backward compatible"? Secondly, the book that I found (Link to pdf) does not seem to state a return type for the main function. I check around and found other books and websites and these also commonly do not specify return types for the main function. If I try to compile a program that does not specify a return type for main, it compiles fine (although with some warnings) in a C compiler, but it doesn't compile in a C++ compiler. Again, why is that? Is it better style to always specify the return type as an integer rather than leaving it out? Thanks for any help, and just as a side note, if anyone can suggest a better book that I should buy that would be great!

• How can I save a file on an http server using just http requests and javascript?

  hi all, I'm trying to understand some of the basics of web servers/html/javasacript etc. I'm not interested in any of the various frameworks like php/asp, i'm just trying to get a low level look at things (for now). At the moment I'm trying to understand how data can be sent to/saved on the backend, but i must admit that i'm getting a bit lost under the various specs/technical stuff on w3 at the moment! If I have some data, say xml, that I want to save on the backend how do I go about it? I assume that I would have to use something like an HTTP PUT or POST Request to an html doc that contains some javascript that in turn would process the data, e.g. save it somewhere. Now from googling around I can see that this doesn't seem to be the case, so my assumptions are completely wrong! So how is it done? Can it be done, or do I have to use something like php or asp? • One controller with multiple models? Am I doing this correctly?

  My web app, up until this point, has been fairly straight forward. I have Users, Contacts, Appointments and a few other things to manage. All of these are easy - it's just one model per section so I just did a scaffold for each, then modified the scaffolded code to fit my need. Pretty easy... Unfortunately I am having a problem on this next section because I want the 'Financials' section of my app to be more in depth than the other sections which I simply scaffolded. For example, when the user clicks the 'Contacts' link on the navigation bar, it just shows a list of contacts, pretty straight forward and is in line with the scaffold. However, when the user clicks the 'Financials' link on the navigation bar, I want to show the bank accounts on the left of the page and a few of the transactions on the right. So the financials tab will basically work with data from two models: transactions and bank_accounts. I think I should make the models (transactions & bank_accounts) and then make a controller called Financials, then I can query the models from the Financials controller and display the pages in app/views/financials/ Am I correct in this app layout? I have never worked with more than the basics of scaffolding so I want to ensure I get this right! Thank you!

• Can't install new database in OpenLDAP 2.4 with BDB on Debian

  I'm trying to install an openldap server (slapd) on a Debian EC2 instance. I have followed all the instructions I can find, and am using the recommended slapd-config approach to configuration. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling slapd, changing permissions, Googling my wits out, but I'm tapped out. Any OpenLDAP genius out there would be greatly appreciated!

• Inbound SIP calls through Cisco 881 NAT hang up after a few seconds

  I've recently moved to a Cisco 881 router for my WAN link. I was previously using a Cisco Linksys WAG320N as my modem/router/WiFi AP/NAT firewall. The WAG320N is now running in bridged mode, so it's simply acting as a modem with one of it's LAN ports connected to FE4 WAN on my Cisco 881. The Cisco 881 get's a DHCP provided IP from my ISP. My LAN is part of default Vlan 1 (192.168.1.0/24). General internet connectivity is working great, I've managed to setup static NAT rules for my HTTP/HTTPS/SMTP/etc. services which are running on my LAN. I don't know whether it's worth mentioning that I've opted to use NVI NAT (ip nat enable as opposed to the traditional ip nat outside/ip nat inside) setup. My reason for this is that NVI allows NAT loopback from my LAN to the WAN IP and back in to the necessary server on the LAN. I run an Asterisk 1.8 PBX on my LAN, which connects to a SIP provider on the internet. Both inbound and outbound calls through the old setup (WAG320N providing routing/NAT) worked fine. However, since moving to the Cisco 881, inbound calls drop after around 10 seconds, whereas outbound calls work fine. The following message is logged on my Asterisk PBX: [Dec 9 15:27:45] WARNING[27734]: chan_sip.c:3641 retrans_pkt: Retransmission timeout reached on transmission [email protected] for seqno 1 (Critical Response) -- See https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/SIP+Retransmissions Packet timed out after 6528ms with no response [Dec 9 15:27:45] WARNING[27734]: chan_sip.c:3670 retrans_pkt: Hanging up call [email protected] - no reply to our critical packet (see https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/SIP+Retransmissions). (I know that this is quite a common issue - I've spend the best part of 2 days solid on this, trawling Google.) I've done as I am told and checked https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/SIP+Retransmissions. Referring to the section "Other SIP requests" in the page linked above, I believe that the hangup to be caused by the ACK from my SIP provider not being passed back through NAT to Asterisk on my PBX. I tried to ascertain this by dumping the packets on my WAN interface on the 881. I managed to obtain a PCAP dump of packets in/out of my WAN interface. Here's an example of an ACK being reveived by the router from my provider: 689 21.219999 193.x.x.x 188.x.x.x SIP 502 Request: ACK sip:[email protected] | However a SIP trace on the Asterisk server show's that there are no ACK's received in response to the 200 OK from my PBX: http://pastebin.com/wwHpLPPz In the past, I have been strongly advised to disable any sort of SIP ALGs on routers and/or firewalls and the many posts regarding this issue on the internet seem to support this. However, I believe on Cisco IOS, the config command to disable SIP ALG is no ip nat service sip udp port 5060 however, this doesn't appear to help the situation. To confirm that config setting is set: Router1#show running-config | include sip no ip nat service sip udp port 5060 Another interesting twist: for a short period of time, I tried another provider. Luckily, my trial account with them is still available, so I reverted my Asterisk config back to the revision before I integrated with my current provider. I then dialled in to the DDI associated with the trial trunk and the call didn't get hung up and I didn't get the error above! To me, this points at the provider, however I know, like all providers do, will say "There's no issues with our SIP proxies - it's your firewall." I'm tempted to agree with this, as this issue was not apparent with the old WAG320N router when it was doing the NAT'ing. I'm sure you'll want to see my running-config too: ! !   I have a .NET 2.0 server that seems to be running into scaling problems, probably due to poor design of the socket-handling code, and I am looking for guidance on how I might redesign it to improve performance. Usage scenario: 50 - 150 clients, high rate (up to 100s / second) of small messages (10s of bytes each) to / from each client. Client connections are long-lived - typically hours. (The server is part of a trading system. The client messages are aggregated into groups to send to an exchange over a smaller number of 'outbound' socket connections, and acknowledgment messages are sent back to the clients as each group is processed by the exchange.) OS is Windows Server 2003, hardware is 2 x 4-core X5355. Current client socket design: A TcpListener spawns a thread to read each client socket as clients connect. The threads block on Socket.Receive, parsing incoming messages and inserting them into a set of queues for processing by the core server logic. Acknowledgment messages are sent back out over the client sockets using async Socket.BeginSend calls from the threads that talk to the exchange side. Observed problems: As the client count has grown (now 60-70), we have started to see intermittent delays of up to 100s of milliseconds while sending and receiving data to/from the clients. (We log timestamps for each acknowledgment message, and we can see occasional long gaps in the timestamp sequence for bunches of acks from the same group that normally go out in a few ms total.) Overall system CPU usage is low (< 10%), there is plenty of free RAM, and the core logic and the outbound (exchange-facing) side are performing fine, so the problem seems to be isolated to the client-facing socket code. There is ample network bandwidth between the server and clients (gigabit LAN), and we have ruled out network or hardware-layer problems. Any suggestions or pointers to useful resources would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has any diagnostic or debugging tips for figuring out exactly what is going wrong, those would be great as well. Note: I have the MSDN Magazine article Winsock: Get Closer to the Wire with High-Performance Sockets in .NET, and I have glanced at the Kodart "XF.Server" component - it looks sketchy at best.

• WPF storyboard animation issue when using VisualBrush

  Hey guys, I was playing around with storyboards, a flipping animation, and visual brushes. I have encountered an issue though. Below is the xaml and code-behind of a small sample I quickly put together to try to demonstrate the problem. When you first start the app, you are presented with a red square and two buttons. If you click the "Flip" button, the red square will "flip" over and a blue one will appear. In reality, all that is happening is that the scale of the width of the StackPanel that the red square is in is being decreased until it reaches zero and then the StackPanel where a blue square is, whose width is initially scaled to zero, has its width increased. If you click the "Flip" button a few times, the animation looks ok and smooth. Now, if you hit the "Reflection" button, a reflection of the red/blue buttons is added to their respective StackPanels. Hitting the "Flip" button now will still cause the flip animation but it is no longer a smooth animation. The StackPanels width often does not shrink to zero. The width shrinks somewhat but then just stops before being completely invisible. Then the other StackPanel appears as usual. The only thing that changed was adding the reflection, which is just a VisualBrush. Below is the code. Does anyone have any idea why the animations are different between the two cases (stalling in the second case)? } } } } UPDATE: I have been testing this some more to try to find out what is causing the issue I am seeing and I believe I found what is causing the issue. Below I have pasted new xaml and code-behind. The new sample below is very similar to the original sample, with a few minor modifications. The xaml basically consists of two stack panels, each containing two borders. The second border in each stack panel is a visual brush (a reflection of the border above it). Now, when I click the "Flip" button, one stack panel gets its ScaleX reduced to zero, while the second stack panel, whose initial ScaleX is zero, gets its ScaleX increased to 1. This animation gives the illusion of flipping. There are also two textblocks which display the scale factor of each stack panel. I added those to try to diagnose my issue. The issue is (as described in the oringal post) that the flipping animation is not smooth. Every time I hit the flip button, the animation starts but whenever the ScaleX factor gets to around .14 to .16, the animation looks like it stalls and the stack panels never have there ScaleX reduced to zero, so they never totally disappear. Now, the strange thing is that if I change the Width/Height properties of the "frontBorder" and "backBorder" borders defined below to use explict values instead of Auto, such as Width=105 and Height=75 (to match the button in the border) everything works fine. The animation stutters the first two or three times I run it but after that the flips are smooth and flawless. (BTW, when an animation is run for the first time, is there something going on in the background, some sort of initialization, that causes it to be a little slow the first time?) Is it possible that the Auto Width/Height of the borders are causing the issue? I can reproduce it everytime but I am not sure why Auto Width/Height would be a problem. Below is the sample.   I don't want user to give the back date or time. How can I compare if the entered date and time is LESS then the current time? If the current date and Time is 17-Jun-2010 , 12:25 PM , I want user cannot give date before 17 Jun -2010 and time before 12:25 PM. Like my function return false if the time entered by user is 16-Jun-2010 and time 12:24 PM Please help!!

  I wrote a simple package installer in WinBatch that needs to update an XML file with information about the package contents. My first stab at it involved loading the file with Msxml2.DOMDocument, adding nodes and data as required, then saving the data back to disk. This worked well enough, except that it would not create tab and CR/LF whitespace in the new data. The solution I came up with was writing an XSL stylesheet that would recreate the XML file with whitespace added back in. I'm doing this by: loading the XSL file into an Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument object setting that object as the stylesheet property of an Msxml2.XSLTemplate object creating an XSL processor via Msxml2.XSLTemplate.createProcessor() setting my original Msxml2.DOMDocument as the input property of the XSL processor Calling transform() method of the XSL processor, and saving the output to a file. This works as for as reformatting the XML file with tabs and carriage returns, but my XML declaration comes out either as <?xml version="1.0"?> or <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?> depending on whether I used Msxml2.*.6.0 or Msxml2.* objects (a fall back if the system doesn't have 6.0). If the encoding is set to UTF-16, Msxml12.DOMDocument complains about trying to convert UTF-16 to 1-byte encoding the next time I run my package installer. I've tried creating and adding an XML declaration using both createProcessingInstruction() to both the XML and XSL DOM objects, but neither one seems to affect the output of the XSLTemplate processor. I've also set encoding to UTF-8 in the <xsl:output/> tag in my XSL file.
