• Grails validateable not work for non-persistent domain class

- by Hoàng Long
I followed the instruction here: http://www.grails.org/doc/latest/guide/7.%20Validation.html and added into config.groovy: grails.validateable.classes = [liningtest.Warm'] Then added in src/groovy/Warm.groovy (it's a non-persistent domain class): package liningtest import org.codehaus.groovy.grails.validation.Validateable class Warm { String name; int happyCite; Warm(String n, int h) { this.name = n; this.happyCite = h; } static constraints = { name(size: 1..50) happyCite(min: 100) } } But it just doesn't work (both "blank false" & "size: 0..25") for the "hasErrors" function. It always returns false, even when the name is 25. Is this a Grails bug, if yes, is there any work-around? I'm using Grails 1.3.3 UPDATE: I have updated the simplified code. And now I know that constraint "size" can't be used with "blank", but still does not work. My test class in test/unit/liningtest/WarmTests.groovy package liningtest import grails.test.* class WarmTests extends GrailsUnitTestCase { protected void setUp() { super.setUp() } protected void tearDown() { super.tearDown() } void testSomething() { def w = new Warm('Hihi', 3) assert (w.happyCite == 3) assert (w.hasErrors() == true) } } And the error I got: <testsuite errors="1" failures="0" hostname="evolus-50b0002c" name="liningtest.WarmTests" tests="1" time="0.062" timestamp="2010-12-16T04:07:47"> <properties /> <testcase classname="liningtest.WarmTests" name="testSomething" time="0.062"> <error message="No signature of method: liningtest.Warm.hasErrors() is applicable for argument types: () values: [] Possible solutions: hashCode()" type="groovy.lang.MissingMethodException">groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: liningtest.Warm.hasErrors() is applicable for argument types: () values: [] Possible solutions: hashCode() at liningtest.WarmTests.testSomething(WarmTests.groovy:18) </error> </testcase> <system-out>--Output from testSomething-- </system-out> <system-err>--Output from testSomething-- </system-err> </testsuite> UPDATE 2: When I don't use Unit test, but try to call hasErrors in the controller, it runs but return false value. (hasErrors return false with Warm('Hihi', 3) ). Does anyone has a clue?

• How to use a int2 database-field as a boolean in Java using JPA/Hibernate

- by mg
Hello... I write an application based on an already existing database (postgreSQL) using JPA and Hibernate. There is a int2-column (activeYN) in a table, which is used as a boolean (0 = false (inactive), not 0 = true (active)). In the Java application i want to use this attribute as a boolean. So i defined the attribute like this: @Entity public class ModelClass implements Serializable { /*..... some Code .... */ private boolean active; @Column(name="activeYN") public boolean isActive() { return this.active; } /* .... some other Code ... */ } But there ist an exception because Hibernate expects an boolean database-field and not an int2. Can i do this mapping i any way while using a boolean in java?? I have a possible solution for this, but i don't really like it: My "hacky"-solution is the following: @Entity public class ModelClass implements Serializable { /*..... some Code .... */ private short active_USED_BY_JPA; //short because i need int2 /** * @Deprecated this method is only used by JPA. Use the method isActive() */ @Column(name="activeYN") public short getActive_USED_BY_JPA() { return this.active_USED_BY_JPA; } /** * @Deprecated this method is only used by JPA. * Use the method setActive(boolean active) */ public void setActive_USED_BY_JPA(short active) { this.active_USED_BY_JPA = active; } @Transient //jpa will ignore transient marked methods public boolean isActive() { return getActive_USED_BY_JPA() != 0; } @Transient public void setActive(boolean active) { this.setActive_USED_BY_JPA = active ? -1 : 0; } /* .... some other Code ... */ } Are there any other solutions for this problem? The "hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto"-value in the hibernate configuration is set to "validate". (sorry, my english is not the best, i hope you understand it anyway)..

• StructureMap problems with bidirectional/circular dependencies

- by leozilla
I am currently integrating StructureMap within our business layer but have problems because of bidirectional dependencies. The layer contains multiple manager where each manager can call methods on each other, there are no restrictions or rules for communication. This also includes possible circular dependencies like in the example below. I know the design itself is questionable but currently we just want StructureMap to work and will focus on further refactoring in the future. Every manager implements the IManager interface internal interface IManager { bool IsStarted { get; } void Start(); void Stop(); } And does also have his own specific interface. internal interface IManagerA : IManager { void ALogic(); } internal interface IManagerB : IManager { void BLogic(); } Here are to dummy manager implementations. internal class ManagerA : IManagerA { public IManagerB ManagerB { get; set; } public void ALogic() { } public bool IsStarted { get; private set; } public void Start() { } public void Stop() { } } internal class ManagerB : IManagerB { public IManagerA ManagerA { get; set; } public void BLogic() { } public bool IsStarted { get; private set; } public void Start() { } public void Stop() { } } Here is the StructureMap configuration i use atm. I am still not sure how i should register the managers so currently i use a manual registration. Maybee someone could help me with this too. For<IManagerA>().Singleton().Use<ManagerA>(); For<IManagerB>().Singleton().Use<ManagerB>(); SetAllProperties(convention => { // configure the property injection for all managers convention.Matching(prop => typeof(IManager).IsAssignableFrom(prop.PropertyType)); }); After all i cannot create IManagerA because StructureMap complians about the circular dependency between ManagerA and ManagerB. Is there an easy and clean solution to solve this problem but keep to current design? br David

• Is Pharo just a repackaging/rebranding of Squeak?

- by number5
I'm trying to learn some Smalltalk. Fisrt found was Squeak, but since it has been removed from Gentoo ebuild tree because of security problem, so I decided to find an alternative. Then I found Pharo through Seaside project, after I downloaded Pharo 1.0 package, there are actually a SqueakVM inside! So, my question is: Is Pharo just a repackaging/rebranding of Squeak? And are those security problem of Squeak (bundle unsecure libs) still applied to Pharo? Thanks!

• Help with error creating SharePoint list (probably due to privilege issues)

I'm getting an error when trying to activate a webpart. It activates fine in one setup , but fails in a different one. Administrator in both. • SBT run differences between scala and java?

- by Eric Cartner
I'm trying to follow the log4j2 configuration tutorials in a SBT 0.12.1 project. Here is my build.sbt: name := "Logging Test" version := "0.0" scalaVersion := "2.9.2" libraryDependencies ++= Seq( "org.apache.logging.log4j" % "log4j-api" % "2.0-beta3", "org.apache.logging.log4j" % "log4j-core" % "2.0-beta3" ) When I run the main() defined in src/main/scala/logtest/Foo.scala: package logtest import org.apache.logging.log4j.{Logger, LogManager} object Foo { private val logger = LogManager.getLogger(getClass()) def main(args: Array[String]) { logger.trace("Entering application.") val bar = new Bar() if (!bar.doIt()) logger.error("Didn't do it.") logger.trace("Exiting application.") } } I get the output I was expecting given that src/main/resources/log4j2.xml sets the root logging level to trace: [info] Running logtest.Foo 08:39:55.627 [run-main] TRACE logtest.Foo$ - Entering application. 08:39:55.630 [run-main] TRACE logtest.Bar - entry 08:39:55.630 [run-main] ERROR logtest.Bar - Did it again! 08:39:55.630 [run-main] TRACE logtest.Bar - exit with (false) 08:39:55.630 [run-main] ERROR logtest.Foo$ - Didn't do it. 08:39:55.630 [run-main] TRACE logtest.Foo$ - Exiting application. However, when I run the main() defined in src/main/java/logtest/LoggerTest.java: package logtest; import org.apache.logging.log4j.Logger; import org.apache.logging.log4j.LogManager; public class LoggerTest { private static Logger logger = LogManager.getLogger(LoggerTest.class.getName()); public static void main(String[] args) { logger.trace("Entering application."); Bar bar = new Bar(); if (!bar.doIt()) logger.error("Didn't do it."); logger.trace("Exiting application."); } } I get the output: [info] Running logtest.LoggerTest ERROR StatusLogger Unable to locate a logging implementation, using SimpleLogger ERROR Bar Did it again! ERROR LoggerTest Didn't do it. From what I can tell, ERROR StatusLogger Unable to ... is usually a sign that log4j-core is not on my classpath. The lack of TRACE messages seems to indicate that my log4j2.xml settings aren't on the classpath either. Why should there be any difference in classpath if I'm running Foo.main versus LoggerTest.main? Or is there something else causing this behavior? Update I used SBT Assembly to build a fat jar of this project and specified logtest.LoggerTest to be the main class. Running it from the command line produced correct results: Eric-Cartners-iMac:target ecartner$ java -jar "Logging Test-assembly-0.0.jar" 10:52:23.220 [main] TRACE logtest.LoggerTest - Entering application. 10:52:23.221 [main] TRACE logtest.Bar - entry 10:52:23.221 [main] ERROR logtest.Bar - Did it again! 10:52:23.221 [main] TRACE logtest.Bar - exit with (false) 10:52:23.221 [main] ERROR logtest.LoggerTest - Didn't do it. 10:52:23.221 [main] TRACE logtest.LoggerTest - Exiting application.

• How to know if all the Thread Pool's thread are already done with its tasks?

- by mcxiand
I have this application that will recurse all folders in a given directory and look for PDF. If a PDF file is found, the application will count its pages using ITextSharp. I did this by using a thread to recursively scan all the folders for pdf, then if then PDF is found, this will be queued to the thread pool. The code looks like this: //spawn a thread to handle the processing of pdf on each folder. var th = new Thread(() => { pdfDirectories = Directory.GetDirectories(pdfPath); processDir(pdfDirectories); }); th.Start(); private void processDir(string[] dirs) { foreach (var dir in dirs) { pdfFiles = Directory.GetFiles(dir, "*.pdf"); processFiles(pdfFiles); string[] newdir = Directory.GetDirectories(dir); processDir(newdir); } } private void processFiles(string[] files) { foreach (var pdf in files) { ThreadPoolHelper.QueueUserWorkItem( new { path = pdf }, (data) => { processPDF(data.path); } ); } } My problem is, how do i know that the thread pool's thread has finished processing all the queued items so i can tell the user that the application is done with its intended task?

• How can I tell if AUCTeX is available?

- by Simon Wright
I have a package which has various features that depend on AUCTeX. As it stands, it requires hand-configuration: (defvar AucTeX-used nil) (if AucTeX-used (progn (require 'tex-site) (require 'latex)) (require 'latex-mode) (setq TeX-command-list nil)) Is there a way to find out whether AUCTeX is available on the machine, to avoid having to set AucTeX-Used by hand? (I'm using GNU Emacs 23.1.1 for Max OS X).

• The Webbrowser DocumentComplited event wont fire c#

- by Igal B.
Hi. I have a problem using C# Webbrowser control. the problem is with the event DocumentComplited. Usually the event works fine. the problem is with this page:http://www.voiproblem.com/emulators/Netgear/WGR614v6/fw_forward.html when I (automatically) press on "add" the control navigates to:http://www.voiproblem.com/emulators/Netgear/WGR614v6/pforward.html. but it never firing the DocumentComplited event. I build a simple application that does the same and there it works fine. I mean when the app invokes InvokeMember("click") it does go to the DocumentComplited event. in my real app it doesnt. anyone can help me to figure it up what is the problem? thanks.
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { webBrowser1.Navigate("http://www.voiproblem.com/emulators/Netgear/WGR614v6/fw_forward.html"); } private void webBrowser1_DocumentCompleted(object sender, WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventArgs e) { HtmlElement elm = webBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("Add"); if (elm != null) webBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("Add").InvokeMember("click"); }

• Index out of bounds exception while iterating through a List<string>.

- by Sergio Tapia
I have a List of the location of images on a folder. I have five pictureBoxes that emulate a coverflow type area for users to skim through the images of a given folder. I know that the error is fired because the first image in the collection is set to the first picturebox, then if I click on cycleLeft(), there is a negative number. How can I account for this? For example, if the first image in the List is already set to the farthest left and someone clicks flip left, have that first image put on the last position of the list. Any guidance? private void leftArrow_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { cycleImagesLeft(); } private void rightArrow_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { cycleImagesRight(); } public void cycleImagesLeft() { //imageThree is the center image, that's why I use it as a frame of reference. int currentImage = pictures.IndexOf(imageThree.ImageLocation); imageOne.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage - 3]; imageTwo.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage - 2]; imageThree.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage - 1]; imageFour.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage]; imageFive.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage + 1]; } public void cycleImagesRight() { int currentImage = pictures.IndexOf(imageThree.ImageLocation); imageOne.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage - 1]; imageTwo.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage]; imageThree.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage + 1]; imageFour.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage + 2]; imageFive.ImageLocation = pictures[currentImage + 3]; }

• CF - How to get mouse position when ContextMenu pops up ??

- by no9
I have a problem i cannot solve. In my view (that shows a map) i created a contextMenu. When context menu is invoked i need to get the position where the user has clicked on the map. Here is my problem: In the view i already have onMouseDown event that gets me the coordinates where the user clicked. private void MapView_MouseDown(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { this.lastMouseDownX = e.X; this.lastMouseDownY = e.Y; } When the contextMenu is invoked i need the same data, but the problem is that contextMenu only has EventArgs that dont keep the data i need. Furthermore ... contextMenu is invoked when user presses and holds mouse for a second and when its invoked the code does not enter onMouseDown event ! It just goes into popup event on my context menu.... I tried putting this in my popup event, but the coordinates are not ok. Y coordinate is way off the chart. private void servicesContextMenu_Popup(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.lastMouseUpX = Control.MousePosition.X; this.lastMouseUpX = Control.MousePosition.Y; } I also tried this, but with no success ... the problem remains ... when contextMenu is invoked the code does not fire onMouseDown event. http://www.mofeel.net/58-microsoft-public-dotnet-framework-compactframework/19285.aspx Help?

• Finding the closest object in proxmity to the mouse Coordinates

- by Cam
Hey there, i've been working on a problem for a while now, which involves targeting the closest movieClip in relation to the x y coords of the mouse, I've attached a nice little acompanying graphic. Each mc added to the stage has it's own sub-class (HotSpots) which uses Pythag to measure distance from mouse. At this stage i can determine the closest value from my Main class but can't figure out how to reference it back to the movieclip... hope this makes sense. Below are the two Classes. My Main Class which attachs the mcs, and monitors mouse movement and traces closest value package { import flash.display.*; import flash.text.*; import flash.events.*; public class Main extends MovieClip { var pos:Number = 50; var nodeArray:Array; public function Main(){ nodeArray = []; for(var i:int = 0; i < 4; i++) { var hotSpot_mc:HotSpots = new HotSpots; hotSpot_mc.x += pos; hotSpot_mc.y += pos; addChild(hotSpot_mc); nodeArray.push(hotSpot_mc); // set some pos pos += 70; } stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE,updateProxmity) } public function updateProxmity(e:MouseEvent):void { var tempArray:Array = new Array(); for(var i:int = 0; i < 4; i++) { this['tf'+[i]].text = String(nodeArray[i].dist); tempArray.push(nodeArray[i].dist); } tempArray.sort(Array.NUMERIC); var minValue:int = tempArray[0]; trace(minValue) } } } My HotSpots Class package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.Event; import flash.text.TextField; public class HotSpots extends MovieClip { public var XSide:Number; public var YSide:Number; public var dist:Number = 0; public function HotSpots() { addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, textUp); } public function textUp(event:Event):void { XSide = this.x - MovieClip(root).mouseX; YSide = this.y - MovieClip(root).mouseY; dist = Math.round((Math.sqrt(XSide*XSide + YSide*YSide))); } } } thanks in advance

• Android - Start service on boot

- by Gady
From everything I've seen on Stack Exchange and elsewhere, I have everything set up correctly to start an IntentService when Android OS boots. Unfortunately it is not starting on boot, and I'm not getting any errors. Maybe the experts can help... Manifest: <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.phx.batterylogger" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0" android:installLocation="internalOnly"> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.BATTERY_STATS" /> <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name"> <service android:name=".BatteryLogger"/> <receiver android:name=".StartupIntentReceiver"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" /> </intent-filter> </receiver> </application> </manifest> BroadcastReceiver for Startup: package com.phx.batterylogger; import android.content.BroadcastReceiver; import android.content.Context; import android.content.Intent; public class StartupIntentReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { Intent serviceIntent = new Intent(context, BatteryLogger.class); context.startService(serviceIntent); } } UPDATE: I tried just about all of the suggestions below, and I added logging such as Log.v("BatteryLogger", "Got to onReceive, about to start service"); to the onReceive handler of the StartupIntentReceiver, and nothing is ever logged. So it isn't even making it to the BroadcastReceiver. I think I'm deploying the APK and testing correctly, just running Debug in Eclipse and the console says it successfully installs it to my Xoom tablet at \BatteryLogger\bin\BatteryLogger.apk. Then to test, I reboot the tablet and then look at the logs in DDMS and check the Running Services in the OS settings. Does this all sound correct, or am I missing something? Again, any help is much appreciated.

• Having an issue with org.hibernate.SessionException: Session is closed! in Hibernate

I've done quite a bit a research on this with no luck, but all the answers have a tendency to point toward the session context settings in the config file. What is odd is that I get a session connection the very first time I hit the page (and therefore, a successful result set), but then when I reload I get the following exception: org.hibernate.SessionException: Session is closed! Here are my config settings that are not DB connection string related: <property name="hibernate.show_sql">false</property> <property name="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.SQLServerDialect</property> <property name="hibernate.current_session_context_class">thread</property> <property name="hibernate.cache.provider_class">org.hibernate.cache.NoCacheProvider</property> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_query_cache">false</property> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_minimal_puts">false</property> Here is an example of a call I make that produces the situation I described above. public T get(int id) { session.beginTransaction(); T type; try { type = getTypeClass().cast(session.get(getTypeClass(), id)); } catch (ClassCastException classCastException) { throw new ClassCastException(classCastException.getMessage()); } session.getTransaction().commit(); return type; } The session variable reference is to a static field that contains the current session. All of the session connection details are textbook reference manual. For example, here is my Hibernate session utility: import org.hibernate.SessionFactory; import org.hibernate.cfg.Configuration; public class HibernateSessionFactoryUtil { private static final SessionFactory sessionFactory = buildSessionFactory(); private static SessionFactory buildSessionFactory() { try { return new Configuration().configure().buildSessionFactory(); } catch (Throwable ex) { System.err.println("Initial SessionFactory creation failed." + ex); throw new ExceptionInInitializerError(ex); } } public static SessionFactory getSessionFactory() { return sessionFactory; } }

• Best practice - When to evaluate conditionals of function execution

- by Tesserex
If I have a function called from a few places, and it requires some condition to be met for anything it does to execute, where should that condition be checked? In my case, it's for drawing - if the mouse button is held down, then execute the drawing logic (this is being done in the mouse movement handler for when you drag.) Option one says put it in the function so that it's guaranteed to be checked. Abstracted, if you will. public function Foo() { DoThing(); } private function DoThing() { if (!condition) return; // do stuff } The problem I have with this is that when reading the code of Foo, which may be far away from DoThing, it looks like a bug. The first thought is that the condition isn't being checked. Option two, then, is to check before calling. public function Foo() { if (condition) DoThing(); } This reads better, but now you have to worry about checking from everywhere you call it. Option three is to rename the function to be more descriptive. public function Foo() { DoThingOnlyIfCondition(); } private function DoThingOnlyIfCondition() { if (!condition) return; // do stuff } Is this the "correct" solution? Or is this going a bit too far? I feel like if everything were like this function names would start to duplicate their code. About this being subjective: of course it is, and there may not be a right answer, but I think it's still perfectly at home here. Getting advice from better programmers than I is the second best way to learn. Subjective questions are exactly the kind of thing Google can't answer.

• ivy dependency on external JAR

- by Misha Koshelev
Dear All: I am battling with Ivy (I tried maven but had an event more difficult time setting up the JBoss repository for Hibernate). Quick question - I am using this wonderful package: http://ooweb.sourceforge.net/index.html Unfortunately, the JAR is only available through Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooweb/files/ooweb/0.8.0/ooweb-0.8.0-bin.tar.gz/download Is there a way to get Ivy to download a specific JAR? For that matter, is it possible to do with Maven? Thank you! Misha

• Improving field get and set performance with ASM or Javassist

- by ng
I would like to avoid reflection in an open source project I am developing. Here I have classes like the following. public class PurchaseOrder { @Property private Customer customer; @Property private String name; } I scan for the @Property annotation to determine what I can set and get from the PurchaseOrder reflectively. There are many such classes all using java.lang.reflect.Field.get() and java.lang.reflect.Field.set(). Ideally I would like to generate for each property an invoker like the following. public interface PropertyAccessor<S, V> { public void set(S source, V value); public V get(S source); } Now when I scan the class I can create a static inner class of PurchaseOrder like so. static class customer_Field implements PropertyAccessor<PurchaseOrder, Customer> { public void set(PurchaseOrder order, Customer customer) { order.customer = customer; } public Customer get(PurchaseOrder order) { return order.customer; } } With these I totally avoid the cost of reflection. I can now set and get from my instances with native performance. Can anyone tell me how I would do this. A code example would be great. I have searched the net for a good example but can find nothing like this. The ASM and Javasist examples are pretty poor also. The key here is that I have an interface that I can pass around. So I can have various implementations, perhaps one with Java Reflection as a default, one with ASM, and one with Javassist? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
