• iPhone SDK 3.0 and symbolicatecrash not getting along?

  * UPDATE * I've reinstalled with Snow Leopard, clean install. Completely wiped my existing Leopard install. Same problem persists. I've tried numbers of versions of symbolicatecrash to resolve symbols in my crash reports. From the version provided by Apple, to Alan's Quatermain's version posted on GitHub and finally from http://openradar.appspot.com/6438643. For whatever reason, the best results I can get is for symbols on my own libraries to get resolved. Normally, this is enough data to point me in the right direction -- other times it is not. With 2.x I had no problems getting the symbols for my code + Apple provided libraries from within the stack traces in each thread. Most likely an issue with my environment here, I'm not at all doubting the work that Apple or Alan have done. Yes I'm certain the dSYM I have stashed away is the same exact one that's generating the crash report. Although 'Foo' is me, and getting symbols from it is wonderful, I need to see symbols from the other functions in the stack to truly understand my reports. Note: For devices that crash running the app on iPhone OS 2.2.1, I have no problem getting all symbols. This is an iPhone OS 3.0 issue it appears. • Visitor and templated virtual methods

  In a typical implementation of the Visitor pattern, the class must account for all variations (descendants) of the base class. There are many instances where the same method content in the visitor is applied to the different methods. A templated virtual method would be ideal in this case, but for now, this is not allowed. So, can templated methods be used to resolve virtual methods of the parent class? The implementation above is my suggestion for alerts when the derived visitor implementation hasn't implement an optional method. Is this legal by the C++ specification? (I don't trust when some says that it works with compiler XXX. This is a question against the general language.)

• iPhone SDK / Objective C Syntax Question

  To all, I was looking at the sample project from http://iphoneonrails.com/ and I saw they took the NSObject class and added methods to it for the SOAP calls. Their sample project can be downloaded from here http://iphoneonrails.com/downloads/objective_resource-1.01.zip. My question is related to my lack of knowledge on the following syntax as I haven't seen it yet in a iPhone project. There is a header file called NSObject+ObjectiveResource.h where they declare and change NSObject to have extra methods for this project. Is the "+ObjectiveResource.h" in the name there a special syntax or is that just the naming convention of the developers. What is that telling Xcode and the compiler about what is happening..? After that things look normal to me as they have various static and instance methods. I know that by doing this all user classes that inherit from NSObject now have all the extra methods for this project. My question is what is the parenthesis are doing after the NSObject. Is that referencing a header file, or is that letting the compiler know that this class is being over ridden. Thanks again and my apologies ahead of time if this is a dumb question but just trying to learn what I lack.

• How to do URL authentication in struts2

  Hi, I am using struts2.1.6 + Spring 2.5 I have four modules in my application. Registration Module Admin Module Quote Module Location Module. In registration module the customer can register himself and only after registering he is supposed to have access of the remaining three modules. I want to implement something like if the action being called belongs to the registration module it will work as normal but if the action being called belongs to the rest of those three modules it first should check if the user is logged-in and session has not timed-out. if yes it should proceed normally otherwise it should redirect to the login page. Through research I have found out that interceptors could be used for this purpose but before proceeding I thought its better to get some feedback on it from experts. Please suggest how it should be done and If possible put some code suggestions. • Why does File::Slurp return a scalar when it should return a list?

  I am new to the File::Slurp module, and on my first test with it, it was not giving the results I was expecting. It took me a while to figure it out, so now I am interested in why I was seeing this certain behavior. My call to File::Slurp looked like this: my @array = read_file( $file ) || die "Cannot read $file\n"; I included the "die" part because I am used to doing that when opening files. My @array would always end up with the entire contents of the file in the first element of the array. Finally I took out the "|| die" section, and it started working as I expected. I have a feeling this might be more of a Perl precedence question instead of a File::Slurp question. I looked in the File::Slurp module and it looks like it is set to croak if there is a problem, so I guess the proper way to do it is to allow File::Slurp to croak for you. • How to save data from multiple views of an iPhone app?

  Hi Everyone. I'm making an app where I need to save the text in multiple views in the app when the app quits. I also need to be able to remove all of the data from just one of those views and when the app quits, it's possible not all of those views will have been created yet. After reading this post I thought perhaps it would be good to use a singleton that manages my app data which loads in the data when it is first requested and saved it when the app quits. Then in each view where I need to save data I can just set it on the singleton. I gave it a go but have run into some issues. At first I didn't synthesize the properties (as in the post I was using as a guide) but the compiler told me I needed to make getters and setters, so I did. Now when my applicationWIllTerminate: gets call the app crashes and the console says "Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. kill quit". • How should I store Dynamically Changing Data into Server Cache?

  Hey all, EDIT: Purpose of this Website: Its called Utopiapimp.com. It is a third party utility for a game called utopia-game.com. The site currently has over 12k users to it an I run the site. The game is fully text based and will always remain that. Users copy and paste full pages of text from the game and paste the copied information into my site. I run a series of regular expressions against the pasted data and break it down. I then insert anywhere from 5 values to over 30 values into the DB based on that one paste. I then take those values and run queries against them to display the information back in a VERY simple and easy to understand way. The game is team based and each team has 25 users to it. So each team is a group and each row is ONE users information. The users can update all 25 rows or just one row at a time. I require storing things into cache because the site is very slow doing over 1,000 queries almost every minute. So here is the deal. Imagine I have an excel spreadsheet with 100 columns and 5000 rows. Each row has two unique identifiers. One for the row it self and one to group together 25 rows a piece. There are about 10 columns in the row that will almost never change and the other 90 columns will always be changing. We can say some will even change in a matter of seconds depending on how fast the row is updated. Rows can also be added and deleted from the group, but not from the database. The rows are taken from about 4 queries from the database to show the most recent and updated data from the database. So every time something in the database is updated, I would also like the row to be updated. If a row or a group has not been updated in 12 or so hours, it will be taken out of Cache. Once the user calls the group again via the DB queries. They will be placed into Cache. The above is what I would like. That is the wish. In Reality, I still have all the rows, but the way I store them in Cache is currently broken. I store each row in a class and the class is stored in the Server Cache via a HUGE list. When I go to update/Delete/Insert items in the list or rows, most the time it works, but sometimes it throws errors because the cache has changed. I want to be able to lock down the cache like the database throws a lock on a row more or less. I have DateTime stamps to remove things after 12 hours, but this almost always breaks because other users are updating the same 25 rows in the group or just the cache has changed. This is an example of how I add items to Cache, this one shows I only pull the 10 or so columns that very rarely change. • What is the difference between a desktop environment and a window manager?

  As the title says. I'm having a really hard time trying to understand what the differences between a desktop environment and a window manager are? EDIT: This is what I found out later. There are basically three layers that can be included in the Linux desktop: X Windows – This is the foundation that allows for graphic elements to be drawn on the display. X Windows builds the primitive framework that allows moving of windows, interactions with keyboard and mouse, and draws windows. This is required for any graphical desktop. Window Manager – The Window Manager is the piece of the puzzle that controls the placement and appearance of windows. Window Managers include: Enlightenment, Afterstep, FVWM, Fluxbox, IceWM, etc. Requires X Windows but not a desktop environment. Desktop Environment – This is where it begins to get a little fuzzy for some. A Desktop Environment includes a Window Manager but builds upon it. The Desktop Environment typically is a far more fully integrated system than a Window Manager. Requires both X Windows and a Window Manager.

• Work Item Visualizer for TFS 2010 - New Extension

  I released another new extension to the Visual Studio Gallery again today called Work Item Visualizer for TFS 2010. I've only heard positive things about it so far, hopefully it stays that way :) Basically, it creates a diagram of all work items linked to a work item ID which the user specifies in a search box. This extension was coded using DGML (the same graph rendering language used for the Visual Studio 2010 Architecture Tools). It was pretty cool getting a chance to create something using some of the newest technology out there. Well, I just wanted to throw a blog up to get the word out on it a little more. The System Administrator Fundamentals course provides the foundation needed to effectively control security and ensure smooth operations for an E-Business Suite installation. Demonstrations and hands-on practice reinforce the fundamental concepts of configuring an Oracle E-Business Suite, as well as handling day-to-day system administrator tasks. 2. R12.x Install/Patch/Maintain Oracle E-Business Suite This course will be applicable for customers who have implemented Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 or Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1. This course explains how to go about installing and maintaining an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.x system. Both Standard and Express installation types are covered in detail. Maintenance topics include a detailed examination of the standard tools and utilities, and an in-depth look at patching an Oracle E-Business Suite system. After this course, students will be able to make informed decisions about how to install an Oracle E-Business Suite system that meets their specific requirements, and how to maintain the system afterwards. The extensive hands-on practices include performing an installation on a Linux system, navigating the file system to locate key files, running the standard maintenance tools and utilities, applying patches, and carrying out cloning operations. 3. R12.x Extend Oracle Applications: Building OA Framework Applications This class is a hands-on lab-intensive course that will keep the student busy and active for the duration of the course. While the course covers the fundamentals that support OA Framework-based applications, the course is really an exercise in J2EE programming. Over the duration of the course, the student will create an OA Framework-based application that selects, inserts, updates, and deletes data from a R12 Oracle Applications instance. 4. R12.x Extend Oracle Applications: Customizing OA Framework Applications This course has been significantly changed from the prior version to include additional deployments. The course doesn't teach the specifics of configuration of each product. That is left to the product-specific courses. What the course does cover is the general methods of building, personalizing, and extending OA Framework-based pages within the E-Business Suite. Additionally, the course covers the methods to deploy those types of customizations. The course doesn't include discussion of the Oracle Forms-based pages within the E-Business Suite. 5. R12.x Extend Oracle Applications: OA Framework Personalizations Personalization is the ability within an E-Business Suite instance to make changes to the look and behavior of OA Framework-based pages without programming. And, personalizations are likely to survive patches and upgrades, increasing their utility. This course will systematically walk you through the myriad of personalization options, starting with simple examples and increasing in complexity from there. 6. E-Business Suite: BI Publisher 5.6.3 for Developers Starting with the basic concepts, architecture, and underlying standards of Oracle XML Publisher, this course will lead a student through a progress of exercises building their expertise. By the end of the course, the student should be able to create Oracle XML Publisher RTF templates and data templates. They should also be able to deploy and maintain a BI Publisher report in an E-Business Suite instance. Students will also be introduced to Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise. 7. R12.x Implement Oracle Workflow This course provides an overview of the architecture and features of Oracle Workflow and the benefits of using Oracle Workflow in an e-business environment. You can learn how to design workflow processes to automate and streamline business processes, and how to define event subscriptions to perform processing triggered by business events. Students also learn how to respond to workflow notifications, how to administer and monitor workflow processes, and what setup steps are required for Oracle Workflow. Demonstrations and hands-on practice reinforce the fundamental concepts. 8. R12.x Oracle E-Business Suite Essentials for Implementers Oracle R12.1 E-Business Essentials for Implementers is a course that provides a functional foundation for any E-Business Suite Fundamentals course.
