  • Suggest the way to design several classes

    Hi, I'm building simple application on as3. Kind of starship game. What I want to do is to create several different star ships. Each one should have different images (different look), different sets of animation (e.g. when it's flying, burning, damaged), different kind of weapon and also different controllers (e.g. one can be managed by user, another one by computer, and I want to be able to reuse same ships for AI controller as well as for users controls). Each ship is created in the following way: Create entity Add spatial Add renderers Add other components.... ...... n. init the ship So what I am trying to do: 1) Create StarShip superclass, to store HP (as every ship has it), store spatial (same reason) 2) Create inherited class for any other ship... (It will contain renderer - (responsible for display part), weapon, set of animations), etc What do you think about such way of composition? Maybe it's better to place everything in super class, and then just create instances using long, long, long constructors like: StarShip(hp:HP, animations:DICT, weapon:Weapon, ....) Need advice

  • User control or custom control for this design?

    If I want to create a button control like that, is it supposed to be a User Control or a Custom Control? I am not sure maybe something else? Ideally I want to be able style/animate the main button and the inner button separately; also obviously Ill need to process their events separately. These buttons will be created at run-time and Ill need to set the icons dynamically.

  • Host a subdomain from an IIS7 server on another server

    I am running a network with two server, one running SBS 2008 which hosts a majority of the network services (DNS, DHCP, Exchange, IIS, DC, AD...), including the primary webpage at mydomain.com. The other server is a linux box running an apache web server. I'm trying to set the apache server to host the site site2.mydomain.com. I have changed the DNS settings on the first server so that site2.mydomain.com can be accessed from the internal network, but I cannot access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I have tried using server farms and application request routing cache, as described on this page, http://forums.iis.net/t/1156458.aspx, but I still can't access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I don't have much experience with web servers, I usually just administer local networks, so I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • .net layered design: return error code to forms indicating which controls have an error

    Let's say I have a simple application. It tries to add a new entry to a database grabing the info from the user. The information is a tipical MasterDetail objetc like an invoice. The Invoice object used to collect the data has some simple atributes (Id, Date, etc...) and a List of InvoiceDetail, consisting of some simple atributes (invoiceId, productId, quantity, etc...) A form in the UI Layer collects the data from the user, creates an instance of Invoice and sends it to the Bussiness Layer. The Bussines layer sends the data to a Validation Module. If any error in the input is detected it has to return some kind of error code. The Bussiness Layer has to send the error code back to the Form to let the user correct the worng information. I want the application to display some kind of warning (a different background color for example) in every form control with an error. ¿What's a good aproach to I manage the errors to be able to inform the form which controls are wrong? ¿Can I create an error object?¿Use delegates?. I'm using VB.net but don't think this is relevant to the solution of the problem. P.D: Please suggest me some tags to this post.

    I am developing an application in MVC 3. I installed this provider via Nuget . Basically, it allows to use any part of memberships, rules and profiles with a .sdf (compact) database. I need the "Web Site Administration Tool" use this provider. But I can not use it. Already checked the web.config and everything is ok. When I open the "Web Site Administration Tool" on the Security I click test (any provider) and the error happens. The following images. Error when clicking test "Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider."   • Web Application Nat Traversal

    We are deploying web applications in java using tomcat on client machines across the country. Once they are installed, we want to allow a remote access to these web applications through a central server, but we do not want our clients to have to open ports on their routers. Is there a way to tunnel the http traffic in a way that the central server can access the web application that is behind the firewall ? The central server has a static ip address and we have full control over it. We don't need to access the filesystem, we only want to access the web application itself through a browser.

    I would like to discuss with you a possible implementation for a card game in erlang. The only full example I found online is OpenPoker. I would like to create one myself, so here is the implementation I have in mind: A gen_server to represent a deck: when started creates a deck of cards (shuffled). And stores it in its state. provides an handle_call (draw_card) A gen_server to represent the chat room. Stores in its state the registered name of a player process (e.g. player1, player2, luke etc etc). Exports handle_cast to join the chat (executed by default when somebody joins successfully the game) and one to broadcast a chat message to all users by calling an handle_cast on the gen_server representing a player. a gen_fsm to represent a game instance. Has two states (wait_join, and turn). Exports join/1 to join the game, play_card/2 and send_msg/2. One parameter is the pid of the player process. a gen_server to represent the player. Exports only start_link/1 where the parameter is the name to use to register the process (inside the init I call join method of gen_fsm). Has different handle_calls (e.g. get_hand, draw_card) and handle_casts (e.g. play_card, deliver_msg, and send_msg) A gen_server to represent the main process. Exports (join_game/1 which calls player:start_link/1, send_msg/2 to call player's send_msg, play_card/3 to call player's play_card). What do you think of this architecture? Thanks in advance

  • Create FTP accounts with access to just some folders in the web directory

    I own a VPS server. At the moment I havent installed any FTP server on it, I am using SSH and SFTP only. I am using Debian 6 Squeeze and Apache2 service. The web directory is in /var/www/ Well, I wanted to create different FTP accounts and give access to some people to them (one account per user). In my web directory I have an structure like this: /var/www/mtaplugins/music/mplayer/music/ /var/www/mapuploader/ and more folders inside. I want to create an FTP account which should be able to just access one of those folders and the folders inside them. I would appreciate some recomendations or stept to follow before installing anything or doing anythong, because I dont have any idea about this. I was thinking in using ProFTPd but as I saw in the documentation it would just create an account for each user in my server, and I want to not create more users (I always use root) Thanks in advance

    hi, in my application i am using datalist to display the images, i put properties of repeatcolumn=4 and reapeatdirection=horizontal.     Dear All! I would like to backup our business-data to a remote backup-server. We would like to set-up our own backup-server running on any operating system (windows appreciated) which comes with a web-interface, that enables to restore individual versions of one file. Because budget is limited, an open-source software or at least a cheap software is a must! Unfortunately I couldn't find even a single software, which fulfills the requirements of file versioning and web-interface for single file-restore. Do any of you have already set-up such a system?     Hi Folks We Want to Create an online game like this.I think that ,this type of games have a scheduling software on web server. For Example : Player Click to create a resource And resource creation will be take a moment like 20 Minutes.(Every resource creation time will be different). This message will send to web server application but this message will not processed at same time for example must be processed after 20 Minutes. The web server application after getting the message must be put the order in the Queue. We have Some big problems : 1- The Jobs must be complete by the web server application Even the player Exit the Game. I think that we must create something like Windows service on Web Server. Can we do it? or Is there a better way? 2- The Second problem depended on problem 1 .Because we will have many Jobs (every player can create 20,30 Jobs in every Loggin and we will have thousands of users) , So Our Scheduling System Must be Work On time . it's possible that , there is 100 , 1000 jobs in a same second , if application Can't Done Jobs in him Second will be use the next second Time and the next second jobs will shift to next second and etc. How We can do for this problem ?     Hi all, I have a view with a DropDownList component and a DataGroup component. The dropdownlist has to be updated from a remote php object and on change to call another remote object service in order to update the datagroup's provider. So I am thinks to dispatch an event from my view and the in my EventMap to call the service and inject the result to the drop down. When the dropdown changes I'll dispatch another event and in the EventMap I'll call another service and I'll inject the result to the datagroup. Is there another more sophisticated way?   • Web app - Biometric system connection

    Hi, I will be developing an application for a club where they will have visitors use biometric systems(finger print) or magnetic cards to mark their attendance. This application is planned as a web app, made using PHP/MySQL/Javascript. It does a lot of other things as well. What I wanted to find out is how is the interface between Biometric/Megnetic Card systems to a web app done? I've never worked on this and am hoping if someone who has experience with this can throw some light on this as to how this could be accomplished. Any pointers will be appreciated. (I'm afraid there's got to be some form of application installed on a pc that would interface with the hardware and probably makes calls to the web app. But, if there was a way to connect it to the web app directly, then the app would be easy to deploy to any location with minimal installation.) I've created the users for the login and the role to access the "Members" folder. But in my host company, it doesnt work. I have the aspnet database from my computer in that databese "jsilvaqqc.mdf". When i try to log on pops up box requiring autentication. But i've alreadu given that in the log in form. Do i need aspnet "authentication" tag? Why dont i need it in my machine if i access the same database? Thanks for you help.

    I am currently developing an application which will require multiple different development languages. I want to use PHP as the final piece of the puzzle - the physical web page construction. This PHP web app will need to contact multiple web services which could be coded in anything from Java to Erlang to Python. Each of these web services will be implemented with an API. My plan is to use Thrift to allow this mix to work. Is this the correct approach or am I mixing up what the whole point of Thrift is?

If I have classes that use common .h files that are not currently in the existing pre-compiled header, would tossing them in there be of any real benefit?
