  • Moving front page (cursebird or foursquare)

    Ok so I'll be honest, I have a good amount of experience with php/mysql, I've just started learning jQuery and I've done very little, but some with ajax. So using the terms ajax/jquery interchangeably are a bit confusing to me. Anyway as the title suggest I have a website with 5 items, and I want them to move (meaning, if a more recent one is entered, remove the last item, and put the new one on top), they are 5 of the most recent items in the database table, now I've coded jquery as a test so it fades out the last one, the whole thing moves down, makes room at the top, and fades in a new one. However, it's a test and has 0 interaction with the database, the one that fades in is just in a hidden div. So the jQuery part is taken care of. So I'm unsure how to go about this, I was thinking maybe have ajax check a website off the page that has those 5 items in raw format, and if they change then to refresh? Not looking for a "plz code 4 me" answer, just the concept of how it would work, or some links to get off to the right start. edit - Also, the 5 items are ranked, so if I click item 3 I need it to move above item 2 refreshlessly, so this causes a whole other issue I assume.

    I'm used to working in ASP.NET / ASP.NET MVC and now for class I have to make a PHP website. What is the equivalent to Master Views from ASP.NET in the PHP world? Ideally I would like to be able to define a page layout with something like: Master.php <html> <head> <title>My WebSite</title> <?php headcontent?> </head> <body> <?php bodycontent?> </body> </html> and then have my other PHP pages inherit from Master, so I can insert into those predefined places. Is this possible in PHP? Right now I have the top half of my page defined as "Header.html" and the bottom half is "footer.html" and I include_once both of them on each page I create. However, this isn't ideal for when I want to be able to insert into multiple places on my master page such as being able to insert content into the head. Can someone skilled in PHP point me in the right direction?

  • List of fonts installed by default in versions of Windows?

    I've been seeing more and more websites using fancy antialiased fonts. Every time I hit one, I think to myself "hmm, what web-safe font is that?" - but after looking at the CSS I typically find some font name in quotes, like "Palatino Linotype". Obviously not web-safe, but according to the Wikipedia article, "Palatino Linotype is shipped with Windows 2000 or later, and Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003." So that covers what, 95% of users that might visit your website? And thanks to the power of CSS, the website can fallback to a similar generic font typename such as 'serif' for non-Windows users with a line like this: font: 16px/20px "Palatino Linotype", serif; Awesome! I want to start using fancy fonts! Is there a set of lists out there, of the fonts that are preinstalled by default in Windows 98, 2000, NT, ME, XP, 2003, etc., and maybe for the Mac OSX versions and various Linux distributions as well? It would be a great reference for picking web font faces! (if not, someone should compile it!) I had never before heard of Palatino Linotype and I want to know what other fonts have existed since old Windows versions that I've never known about!

  • Adding a div element inside a panel?

    I'm working with GWT and I'm trying to add google-maps to my website. Since I want to use google-maps V3 I'm using JSNI. In order to display the map in my website I need to create a div element with id="map" and get it in the initialization function of the map. I did so, and it worked out fine but its location on the webpage is funny and I want it to be attached to a panel I'm creating in my code. So my question is how can I do it? Can I create a div somehow with GWT inside a panel ? I've tried to do create a new HTMLPanel like this: runsPanel.add(new HTMLPanel("<div id=\"map\"></div>")); Where runsPanel is a the panel I want to to be attached to.     Hi, I'm currently creating a website for a social project in switzerland. And before there is an overflow of user, I want to prepare the application to scale. I answered by myself many questions but some are left. I explain what I want to do. First at the beginnning, the Application will have only one server (short time) with DNS, PHP, Mysql, Data, and memcache. Second Then I will split them in two DNS, Mysql, memcache Data, PHP Third Here is the problem, I don't know how to do it exactly here to keep the application running well. I could do : Front : Load Balancer, memcache, DNS Web 1 : PHP, DATA Web 2 : PHP, DATA Mysql This would be the scheme, all PHP sessions are kept in the DB. BUT, how do I sync the data? do I run a Rsync to keep them up to date. do I put them on a separate disk (network disk) to be sure ? but in this case, how can I do in case of user uploads ? and if the website gets more success and we have to go on greater structures, would'nt it create some latency on updates ? or would it be a good thing to go directly to amazon's web services ? some infos I use codeigniter as Framework. I use linux as webserver (distribution not chosen now, but should be Debian) Thanks in advance for your answers.

  • How to redirect a URL with GET variables in routes.rb without Rails stripping out the variable first?

    I am building a website in Rails to replace an existing website. In routes.rb I am trying to redirect some of the old URLs to their new equivalents (some of the URL slugs are changing so a dynamic solution is not possible.) My routes.rb looks like this: match "/index.php?page=contact-us" => redirect("/contact-us") match "/index.php?page=about-us" => redirect("/about-us") match "/index.php?page=committees" => redirect("/teams") When I visit /index.php?page=contact-us I am not redirected to /contact-us. I have determined this is because Rails is removing the get variables and only trying to match /index.php. For example, If I pass /index.php?page=contact-us into the below routes I will be redirected to /foobar: match "/index.php?page=contact-us" => redirect("/contact-us") match "/index.php?page=about-us" => redirect("/about-us") match "/index.php?page=committees" => redirect("/teams") match "/index.php" => redirect("/foobar") How can I keep the GET variables in the string and redirect the old URLs the way I'd like? Does Rails have an intended mechanism for this?

    Hi. We have a live universal app in the AppStore. Our client changed his mind and doesn't want the app to be universal anymore, he wants it to be iPad only. Since the app was submitted some time ago, there are users who use the iPhone version. What happens if we submit an upgrade that is iPad only? Will the review team reject it? And if it goes live, will the iPhone users receive a notification about the update? If yes in what form? Or will the iPhone users just be unable to reinstall the app? Thank you!

  • Word 2010 for writing invoices, starting with XML

    Hello, we are doing quite some invoice generation, and so far it is based on some pretty awful word automation that is now in for a review with Word 2010. I would love to move to a XML based format for storing / presenting invoices, only going to a word document in the last stage. This means I can use easily othermeans to present an invoice internally from the XML. We use Word as "last stage" because Word is a lot better than anything else ever discovered for formatting - our invoices have quite some text sometimes, in the invoice item table, and word is smartest with handling page breaks in the "correct" way. Now, here my question: is there any proper way by now to do this with XML easily? I remember Word having (had) in 2007 some XML field mapping mechanism, but it did not handle tables in the XML. Was anything changed? What would be the proposed approach for generating an .docx document (starting with a .dotx templace) for an invoice, if the relevant data is available in XML form?

    I'm trying to get In App Purchase with my existing iPad App working. I'm stuck retrieving the Product Information from App Store: - (void)productsRequest:(SKProductsRequest *)request didReceiveResponse:(SKProductsResponse *)response The SKProductsResponse only contains invalid Product IDs. I tried every potential solution I found here or on the net: my App ID has In App enabled I generated a new provisioning profile and installed it on my device I restarted the device my App ID is the same as in my Info.plist (it's in the Store since weeks) I added In App Purchases for the App with "cleared for sale" checked I added Screenshots to my In App Purchases I tried different naming schemes for the Product ID I made triple checked that I pass the correct Product ID to the SKProductsRequest I'm passing a NSSet to the SKProductsRequest instead of a MutableSet I updated my App with the upcoming version containing in App purchase and submitted it for Review I approved one of my In App Purchases, just to see if that helps I waited more than 24 hours All of these actions brought me nothing but invalid Product IDs. I hope someone can point me into the right direction, because I'm running out of ideas.

This VIEW is just to return me user name, according to his id and level. considering it has about 500,000 registered users, this view takes about 1 second to load. too much time, but is becomes very small when I need to return the latest posts on the forum of my website. The tables of the forums return the user id and level, then look for a name in this VIEW. I have registered 18 forums. When I run the query, it takes one second for each forum = 18 seconds. OMG. This page loads every time somebody enter my website. I would think that there should not be an issue. I tried creating a constructor for my Web User Control so that it would give default values to my properties but that didn't work. Any idea how to make this work? It doesn't seem like it should be that

  • HTML Audio performance

    I'm working on HTML drum machine, and I`ve met some performance issues, rhythm start to break if BPM is higher than 110 but I'm expecting to make it work on BPM over 180. I guess that it can be related with format or codec of audio files, however it also maybe that my code is not very optimised (as I can see from JS CPU profiling it's not). So I'm expecting you guys give me some code review or some hints on optimisation. Although all similar projects I've found on internet didn't work good and maybe it's just restrictions of Audio API. By the way, it's very raw and sounds works only on Chrome under Mac OS, so any advise on audio encoding for web also would be great Project on Github pages Screenshot of Groove which breaks UPDATE Ok, I've found that I was encoding audio files incorrectly, after fixing that rhythm stopped breaking, and also it started working in Mozilla.     I have been asked to update the menu on a website we maintain. The website uses Castle Windors Monorail and NVelocity as the template. The menu is currently rendered using custom made subclasses of ViewComponent, which render li elements. At the moment there is only one (horizontal) level, so the current mechanism is fine. I have been asked to add drop down menus to some of the existing menus. As this is the first time I have seen Monorail and NVelocity, I'm a little lost.   • preserving history when using mercurial ontop of clearcase

    I work in a ClearCase shop and CC does a good job of integrating the team's work though our code review process prevents me from using it to track my daily changes. Creating an hg repository on top of my CC view works really well. I can track my changes and easily make backups on the file server, produce diffs for people etc. This is all well and good until I move to a new CC view and have to leave my history behind. I would love to be able to ?pull? my previous history in and have everything that's different in the new view show up as the latest change set.

  • How can I debug or set a break statement inside an expression tree?

    When an external library contains a LINQ provider, and it throws an exception when executing a dynamic expression tree, how can I break when that expression is thrown? For example, I use a third party LINQ2CRM provider, which allows me to call the Max<TSource, TResult>() method of IQueryable, but when it throws an InvalidCastException, I fail to break on the spot when the exception is thrown, making it hard to review the stack-trace because it's already unwinded when the debugger breaks it in my code. I've set "break on throw" for the mentioned exception. My debug settings are: Clarification on where exactly I'd want to break. I do not want to break in side the LINQ Expression, but instead, I want to break when the expression tree is executed, or, put in other words, when the IQueryable extension method Max() calls the override provided by the LINQ provider. Now, most examples floating around in the web demonstrates writing to the documents directory. What if I want to write files from my app but I don't want the user to be able to see it via iTunes? I'm looking at the Files and Networking section of the iPhone OS Programming Guide and I'm unsure what would be a good alternative to the documents directory for writing files to hide from the user and not be rejected by Apple's review team.

  • Open txt files from a directory, compare the values, and output the top 15 in PHP

    Hello, I recently designed a referral game website for the fun of it. There's a simple MySQL user system with a email verification. It's using the UserCake user management system. On top of this i added a php page that the user could give to "victims" that when they visit it they get "infected" and can infect other users or "victims". This page uses GET to get the username from the url. I have a folder that when a user registers it creates a file with 4 digits and then the username. (ex; 0000Username.txt) All the numbers are the same, it's just so that if a user discovers the folder they won't be able to find the files. There is also a txt file in the same format with IPS in the name. (ex; 0000IPSUsername.txt) The file when visited gets the username from the url, then checks if the text file for that username exists. If the username is present in the url, and a valid user it opens the IPS file and adds the IP of the visitor, then opens the user text file, takes the value and adds one to it, and saves. At the end it makes the difference between saying "You are infected, Username has infected (amount) people." or just you have been infected. Now to what i need! I need to add a hi-scores to the website so people can compete to be the one with the most "infections". I thought i could use readdir to get a list of the files and open them with the value in an array, but i need it to also strip the username from the file name. It would be best if it just saves to a text file like "Username | value" because then i can add echo's of the html tags and have it include the file in the page i want it to be one.   • Javascript + PHP $_POST array empty

    While trying to send a POST request via xmlhttp.open("POST", "url", true) (javascript) to the server I get an empty $_POST array. Firebug shows that the data is being sent. Here is the data string from Firebug: a=1&q=151a45a150.... But $_POST['q'] returns nothing. The interesting thing is that file_get_contents('php://input') does have my data (the string above), but PHP somehow doesn't recognize it. Tried both $_POST and $_REQUEST, nothing works.
