  • SQL Temp Tables & Replication

    - by Refracted Paladin
    I have had an issue with our replication process and would like to salvage some data. I have a process in place where I will connect to each subscriber before flagging them for reinitialization and I will run the below to pull any data they may have entered in during the "dark time". I am pretty sure this will work in a vanilla palace. What I am unsure of is whether the Global Temporary Table will persist through DB Replication. To be clear, I am not trying to Replicate the TempTable, I just want to make sure it will still exist at the local DB after the Replication so I may run the INSERT from it. Thoughts? USE MemberCenteredPlan -- Select Data from tblPLan SELECT * INTO ##MyPlan FROM tblPlan WHERE PlanID = 407869 --------------------------- -- Run Replication Process --------------------------- -- Insert Plan back into DB INSERT INTO tblPlan SELECT * FROM ##MyPlan WHERE PlanID = 407869 -- Drop Global Temp Table DROP TABLE ##MyPlan --------------------------- -- Run Replication Process ---------------------------

  • Communication with different social networks, strategy pattern?

    - by bclaessens
    Hi For the last few days I've been thinking how I can solve the following programming problem and find the ideal, flexible programming structure. (note: I'm using Flash as my platform technology but that shouldn't matter since I'm just looking for the ideal design pattern). Our Flash website has multiple situations in which it has to communicate with different social networks (Facebook, Netlog and Skyrock). Now, the communication strategy doesn't have to change multiple times over one "run". The strategy should be picked once (at launch time) for that session. The real problem is the way the communication works between each social network and our website. Some networks force us to ask for a token, others force us to use a webservice, yet another forces us to set up its communication through javascript. The problem becomes more complicated when our website has to run in each network's canvas. Which results in even more (different) ways of communicating. To sum up, our website has to work in the following cases: standalone on the campaign website url (user chooses their favourite network) communicate with netlog OR communicate with facebook OR communicate with skyrock run in a netlog canvas and log in automatically (website checks for netlog parameters) run in a facebook canvas and log in automatically (website checks for facebook params) run in a skyrock canvas and log in automatically (website checks for skyrock params) As you can see, our website needs 6 different ways to communicate with a social network. To be honest, the actual significant difference between all communication strategies is the way they have to connect to their individual network (as stated above in my example). Posting an image, make a comment, ... is the same whether it runs standalone or in the canvas url. WARNING: posting an image, posting a comment DOES differ from network to network. Should I use the strategy pattern and make 6 different communication strategies or is there a better way? An example would be great but isn't required ;) Thanks in advance

  • questions regarding the use of A* with the 15-square puzzle

    - by Cheeso
    I'm trying to build an A* solver for a 15-square puzzle. The goal is to re-arrange the tiles so that they appear in their natural positions. You can only slide one tile at a time. Each possible state of the puzzle is a node in the search graph. For the h(x) function, I am using an aggregate sum, across all tiles, of the tile's dislocation from the goal state. In the above image, the 5 is at location 0,0, and it belongs at location 1,0, therefore it contributes 1 to the h(x) function. The next tile is the 11, located at 0,1, and belongs at 2,2, therefore it contributes 3 to h(x). And so on. EDIT: I now understand this is what they call "Manhattan distance", or "taxicab distance". I have been using a step count for g(x). In my implementation, for any node in the state graph, g is just +1 from the prior node's g. To find successive nodes, I just examine where I can possibly move the "hole" in the puzzle. There are 3 neighbors for the puzzle state (aka node) that is displayed: the hole can move north, west, or east. My A* search sometimes converges to a solution in 20s, sometimes 180s, and sometimes doesn't converge at all (waited 10 mins or more). I think h is reasonable. I'm wondering if I've modeled g properly. In other words, is it possible that my A* function is reaching a node in the graph via a path that is not the shortest path? Maybe have I not waited long enough? Maybe 10 minutes is not long enough? For a fully random arrangement, (assuming no parity problems), What is the average number of permutations an A* solution will examine? (please show the math) I'm going to look for logic errors in my code, but in the meantime, Any tips? (ps: it's done in Javascript). Also, no, this isn't CompSci homework. It's just a personal exploration thing. I'm just trying to learn Javascript. EDIT: I've found that the run-time is highly depend upon the heuristic. I saw the 10x factor applied to the heuristic from the article someone mentioned, and it made me wonder - why 10x? Why linear? Because this is done in javascript, I could modify the code to dynamically update an html table with the node currently being considered. This allowd me to peek at the algorithm as it was progressing. With a regular taxicab distance heuristic, I watched as it failed to converge. There were 5's and 12's in the top row, and they kept hanging around. I'd see 1,2,3,4 creep into the top row, but then they'd drop out, and other numbers would move up there. What I was hoping to see was 1,2,3,4 sort of creeping up to the top, and then staying there. I thought to myself - this is not the way I solve this personally. Doing this manually, I solve the top row, then the 2ne row, then the 3rd and 4th rows sort of concurrently. So I tweaked the h(x) function to more heavily weight the higher rows and the "lefter" columns. The result was that the A* converged much more quickly. It now runs in 3 minutes instead of "indefinitely". With the "peek" I talked about, I can see the smaller numbers creep up to the higher rows and stay there. Not only does this seem like the right thing, it runs much faster. I'm in the process of trying a bunch of variations. It seems pretty clear that A* runtime is very sensitive to the heuristic. Currently the best heuristic I've found uses the summation of dislocation * ((4-i) + (4-j)) where i and j are the row and column, and dislocation is the taxicab distance. One interesting part of the result I got: with a particular heuristic I find a path very quickly, but it is obviously not the shortest path. I think this is because I am weighting the heuristic. In one case I got a path of 178 steps in 10s. My own manual effort produce a solution in 87 moves. (much more than 10s). More investigation warranted. So the result is I am seeing it converge must faster, and the path is definitely not the shortest. I have to think about this more. Code: var stop = false; function Astar(start, goal, callback) { // start and goal are nodes in the graph, represented by // an array of 16 ints. The goal is: [1,2,3,...14,15,0] // Zero represents the hole. // callback is a method to call when finished. This runs a long time, // therefore we need to use setTimeout() to break it up, to avoid // the browser warning like "Stop running this script?" // g is the actual distance traveled from initial node to current node. // h is the heuristic estimate of distance from current to goal. stop = false; start.g = start.dontgo = 0; // calcHeuristic inserts an .h member into the array calcHeuristicDistance(start); // start the stack with one element var closed = []; // set of nodes already evaluated. var open = [ start ]; // set of nodes to evaluate (start with initial node) var iteration = function() { if (open.length==0) { // no more nodes. Fail. callback(null); return; } var current = open.shift(); // get highest priority node // update the browser with a table representation of the // node being evaluated $("#solution").html(stateToString(current)); // check solution returns true if current == goal if (checkSolution(current,goal)) { // reconstructPath just records the position of the hole // through each node var path= reconstructPath(start,current); callback(path); return; } closed.push(current); // get the set of neighbors. This is 3 or fewer nodes. // (nextStates is optimized to NOT turn directly back on itself) var neighbors = nextStates(current, goal); for (var i=0; i<neighbors.length; i++) { var n = neighbors[i]; // skip this one if we've already visited it if (closed.containsNode(n)) continue; // .g, .h, and .previous get assigned implicitly when // calculating neighbors. n.g is nothing more than // current.g+1 ; // add to the open list if (!open.containsNode(n)) { // slot into the list, in priority order (minimum f first) open.priorityPush(n); n.previous = current; } } if (stop) { callback(null); return; } setTimeout(iteration, 1); }; // kick off the first iteration iteration(); return null; }

    I want to run a cmd exe using a python script. I have the following code: def run_command(command): p = subprocess.Popen(command, shell=True, stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.STDOUT) return p.communicate() then i use: run_command(r"C:\Users\user\Desktop\application\uploader.exe") this returns the option menu where i need to specify additional parameter for the cmd exe to run. So i pass additional parameters for the cmd exe to run. How do i accomplish this. I've looked at subprocess.communicate but i was unable to understand it

  • Running single integration test quickly in Grails

    - by Prakash
    Is it possible to quickly run single/all integration test in a class quickly in Grails. The test-app comes with heavy baggage of clearing of all compiled files and generating cobertura reports hence even if we run single integration test, the entire code base is compiled,instrumented and the cobertura report is getting generated. For our application this takes more than 2 minutes. If it was possible to quickly run one integration test and get a rapid feedbck, it would be immensely helpful. Thanks

    Hello, i´m trying to get following tutorial to run and understand: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/web/library/wa-cometjava/index.html In the example code which can be downloaded at the bottom of the page is everything in one class with two inner classes. How can i make the the thread of "MessageSender" (Listing 3) visible to "The Weatherman" (Listing 4) so i can use it in the run method without using inner classes? Thank you hansa Reformulation of Question: How to make the send-method of inner class MessageSender make accessible in ClassThatDoSomething. Example-Code: public class Example extends HttpServlet implements CometProcessor { private MessageSender messageSender = null; @Override public void init() throws ServletException { // starts thread MessageSender } public event(CometEvent) { // Object of ClassThatDoSomething gets created started } private class ClassThatDoSomething { public void start() { Runnable runnable = new Runnable() { public void run(){ messageSender.send(message); } Thread thread = new Thread(runnable); thread.start(); } } private class MessageSender implements Runnable { public void send(String message) { //... } public void run() { //...} } }

  • C++ Array vs vector

    when using C++ vector, time spent is 718 milliseconds, while when I use Array, time is almost 0 milliseconds. Why so much performance difference? int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { const int size = 10000; clock_t start, end; start = clock(); vector<int> v(size*size); for(int i = 0; i < size; i++) { for(int j = 0; j < size; j++) { v[i*size+j] = 1; } } end = clock(); cout<< (end - start) <<" milliseconds."<<endl; // 718 milliseconds int f = 0; start = clock(); int arr[size*size]; for(int i = 0; i < size; i++) { for(int j = 0; j < size; j++) { arr[i*size+j] = 1; } } end = clock(); cout<< ( end - start) <<" milliseconds."<<endl; // 0 milliseconds return 0; }

  • Magento - Add a button to system.xml with method attached to it

    - by vrnet
    Hi, I have created a module that has an "export like" method running regularly as defined in my module's cron area of the config.xml file. But I'd like to give the user the ability to run this export method on demand by adding a "Run now" button in the system configuration, thus using the system.xml file. It seems that the "frontend type" button may be working as I've tried and it adds a tiny clickable button in the config section. But I am not able to attach a method nor a label on the button itself. I thought about adding a button in the "Grid.php" file of the module but this not what I'd like to do as it does fit with my acl. Below is my system.xml file with the "button" frontend type. Does anyone have a clue on how to : add a label/value to the button add a class to the button add a method to call when the button is clicked Many thanks for your help ! <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <config> ... <fields> ... <run translate="label"> <label>Run now</label> <frontend_type>button</frontend_type> <backend_model>SOME BACKEND MODEL</backend_model> <sort_order>20</sort_order> <show_in_default>1</show_in_default> <show_in_website>1</show_in_website> <show_in_store>1</show_in_store> </run> </fields> ... </config>

    How can I copy the value of a field, but only its numbers? I am creating a computed column for fulltext search, and I want to copy the values from my Phone Number fields (which are varchar) into it, but not with their formatting - numbers only. What is the command that would do this in my computed column formula? Thank you!

  • How do you convert date taken from a bash script to milliseconds in java program?

    - by Matt Pascoe
    I am writing a piece of code in java that needs to take a time sent from a bash script and parse the time to milliseconds. When I check the millisecond conversion on the date everything is correct except for the month I have sent which is January instead of March. Here is the variable I create in the bash script, which later in the script I pass to the java program: TIME=`date +%m%d%Y_%H:%M:%S` Here is the java code which parses the time to milliseconds: String dt = "${scriptstart}"; java.text.SimpleDateFormat scriptStart = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("MMDDyyyy_HH:mm:ss"); long start = scriptStart.parse(dt).getTime(); The goal of this statement is to find the elapsed time between the start of the script and the current system time. To troubleshoot this I printed out the two: System Time = 1269898069496 (converted = Mon Mar 29 2010 16:27:49 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time)) Script Start = 03292010_16:27:45 Script Start in Milli = 1264804065000 (Converted = Fri Jan 29 2010 16:27:45 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time))

  • Java calendar day_of_week not working

    - by Raptrex
    I have a for loop starting at startTime going up to endTime and I would like it to print out the date if it is either a monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, or friday. Currently, it is only printing out the endTime date. The other stuff splits the string, which you can ignore. Since 5/16/2010 is a sunday, it should print out 17,18,19,20,21, 24 and 25. However it only prints 25 import java.util.*; public class test { public static void main(String[] args) { String startTime = "5/16/2010 11:44 AM"; String endTime = "5/25/2010 12:00 PM"; GregorianCalendar startCal = new GregorianCalendar(); startCal.setLenient(true); String[] start = splitString(startTime); //this sets year, month day startCal.set(Integer.parseInt(start[2]),Integer.parseInt(start[0])-1,Integer.parseInt(start[1])); startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.HOUR, Integer.parseInt(start[3])); startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.MINUTE, Integer.parseInt(start[4])); if (start[5].equalsIgnoreCase("AM")) { startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 0); } else { startCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 1); } GregorianCalendar endCal = new GregorianCalendar(); endCal.setLenient(true); String[] end = splitString(endTime); endCal.set(Integer.parseInt(end[2]),Integer.parseInt(end[0])-1,Integer.parseInt(end[1])); endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.HOUR, Integer.parseInt(end[3])); endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.MINUTE, Integer.parseInt(end[4])); if (end[5].equalsIgnoreCase("AM")) { endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 0); } else { endCal.set(GregorianCalendar.AM_PM, 1); } for (int i = startCal.get(Calendar.DATE); i < endCal.get(Calendar.DATE); i++) { if (startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.MONDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.TUESDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.WEDNESDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.THURSDAY || startCal.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) == Calendar.FRIDAY) { startCal.set(Calendar.DATE, i); System.out.println(startCal.get(Calendar.DATE)); } } } private static String[] splitDate(String date) { String[] temp1 = date.split(" "); // split by space String[] temp2 = temp1[0].split("/"); // split by / //5/21/2010 10:00 AM return temp2; // return 5 21 2010 in one array } private static String[] splitTime(String date) { String[] temp1 = date.split(" "); // split by space String[] temp2 = temp1[1].split(":"); // split by : //5/21/2010 10:00 AM String[] temp3 = {temp2[0], temp2[1], temp1[2]}; return temp3; // return 10 00 AM in one array } private static String[] splitString(String date) { String[] temp1 = splitDate(date); String[] temp2 = splitTime(date); String[] temp3 = new String[6]; return dateFill(temp3, temp2[0], temp2[1], temp2[2], temp1[0], temp1[1], temp1[2]); } private static String[] dateFill(String[] date, String hours, String minutes, String ampm, String month, String day, String year) { date[0] = month; date[1] = day; date[2] = year; date[3] = hours; date[4] = minutes; date[5] = ampm; return date; } private String dateString(String[] date) { //return month+" "+day+", "+year+" "+hours+":"+minutes+" "+ampm //5/21/2010 10:00 AM return date[3]+"/"+date[4]+"/ "+date[5]+" "+date[0]+":"+date[1]+" "+date[2]; } }

  • On iPhone, how do I check once per day to see if i should phone-home?

    - by Jann
    I want to check a file on the server only once each day (NSURL). And, no matter if I fetch the file or not, I do not run the function (to check for the file) again that day. This would SEEM easy... but I forsee issues. Say I had created a directory under the mainBundle: "/Library/runOnceEachDay/". Perhaps I could write to /Library/runOnceEachDay/20100601 knowing that file would only exist if I already ran the function. If it does not exist, run the function and after the function is successful write a zero length file with the date as the filename. Then check before running that function for "mainBundle/Library/runOnceEachDay/YYYYMMDD" whereas YYYYMMDD is today's date. If that file exists, do not run. I could run a housecleaning routine to clean that directory once/week or something. Any better ideas? Thanks!

  • C++ Vector vs Array (Time)

    - by vsha041
    I have got here two programs with me, both are doing exactly the same task. They are just setting an boolean array / vector to the value true. The program using vector takes 27 seconds to run whereas the program involving array with 5 times greater size takes less than 1 s. I would like to know the exact reason as to why there is such a major difference ? Are vectors really that inefficient ? Program using vectors #include <iostream> #include <vector> #include <ctime> using namespace std; int main(){ const int size = 2000; time_t start, end; time(&start); vector<bool> v(size); for(int i = 0; i < size; i++){ for(int j = 0; j < size; j++){ v[i] = true; } } time(&end); cout<<difftime(end, start)<<" seconds."<<endl; } Runtime - 27 seconds Program using Array #include <iostream> #include <ctime> using namespace std; int main(){ const int size = 10000; // 5 times more size time_t start, end; time(&start); bool v[size]; for(int i = 0; i < size; i++){ for(int j = 0; j < size; j++){ v[i] = true; } } time(&end); cout<<difftime(end, start)<<" seconds."<<endl; } Runtime - < 1 seconds Platform - Visual Studio 2008 OS - Windows Vista 32 bit SP 1 Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2370 @ 1.73GHz Memory (RAM) 1.00 GB Thanks Amare

  • Grouping arrays with consecutive keys

Just grouping the keys. And if consecutive integer doesn't exist for a particular key(like for [32] and [35]), 'stop' should be the consecutive integer. Thank you all for help.
