• Registry settings for disabling autocomplete options in IE8

  I have a script that disables all the autocomplete settings in IE6 and IE7 but with IE8 there are new settings that aren't disabled by the script. The settings are under Tools-Content-AutoComplete-Settings The current registry keys I'm modifying are HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FormSuggest Passwords "no" HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FormSuggest PW Ask "no" HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Use FormSuggest "no" HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete\AutoSuggest "no" The settings that are not unchecked by these keys are Browsing History and Favorites. Does anyone know the registry settings that are associated with these IE settings?

• Best way to process a queue in C# (PDF treatment)

  First of all let me expose what I would like to do : I already dispose of a long-time running webapp developed in ASP.NET (C#) 2.0. In this app, users can upload standard PDF files (text+pics). The app is running in production on a Windows Server 2003 and has a dedicated database server (SQL server 2008) also running Windows Server 2003. I myself am a quite experienced web developer, but never actually programmed anything non-web (or at least nothing serious). I plan on adding a functionality to the webapp for which I would need a jpg snapshot of each page of the PDF. Creating these "thumbnails" isn't the big deal as such, I already do it inside my webapp using ghostscript. I've only done it on 1 page documents for now though, and the new functionality will need to process bigger documents. In order for this process to be transparent aswell for the admins as the final users, I would like to implement some kind of queue to delay the processing of the thumbnails. There again, no problem to create the queue, it will consist of records in a table, with enough info to find the pdf document back. Then I will need to process this queue, and that's were my interrogations start. Obviously the best solution to process it isn't an ASP script or so, so I will have to get out of my known environment. No problem, but I have no idea which direction to go. Therefore, a few questions : What should I develop ? I presumably need something that is "standby" on the server, runs when needed, then returns to idle state until further notice.Should I be looking into Windows service ? Is there another more appropriate type of project ? Depending on the first answer, what will be the approach ? Should I have somehow SQL server "tell" the program/service/... to process the queue, or should I have that program/service/... periodically check the state of the queue and treat new items. In both case, which functionality can I use ? we're not talking about hundreds of PDF a day (max 50 maybe), I can totally afford to treat the queue 1 item at a time. Can you confirm I don't have to look much further on threads and so ? (I found a lot of answers talking about threads in queue treatment, but it looks quite overkill for my needs) Maybe linked to the previous question : what about concurrent call to the program, whatever it is ? Let's suppose it is currently running, and a new record comes in the queue, what should be the behaviour ? I don't need much detailed answers and would already be happy with answers like "You can do the processing with a service, and yes it's possible to have sqlserver on machine A trigger a service start on machine B" or "You have to develop xxx and then use the scheduler to run it every xxx minutes". I don't mind reading articles and so, but I can hardly afford to spend too much time learning stuff to finally realize I went the wrong way for this project, so basically I'm trying to narrow down the scope of matters I need to investigate.   When I try to connect my Windows PC with telnet, its giving me following error. • Sharepoint (active directory account creation mode) - Using STSADM

  This question is regarding using STSADM command to create new site collection in Active Directory Account creation mode. My setup is like this- I have 2 virtual PCs in a Windows XP Pro SP3 host. Both VPCs are Windows Server 2003 R2. One VPC acts as the DC, DNS Server, DHCP server, has Active Directory installed and is also the Database Server. The other VPC is the domain member and it is the IIS web server, POP/SMTP server and it has WSS 3.0 installed. I created a new site using the GUI in Central Admin page. For creating a site collection under the newly created site, I needed to use the STSADM command line tool since it cannot be done from Central Admin page in Active Directory Account creation mode. • Enteprise Library Exception Handling for WCF Fault Contracts - CLIENT SIDE

  I have a Windows Service which communicates with WCF services. The WCF services are all fault shielded and generate custom UserFaultContracts and ServiceFaultContracts. No problems there. In the Windows Service I am using EntLib for exception handling and logging.   I'm trying to get UTF-8 chars to co-exist with ANSI 8-bit chars. As we all know, static class variables get defined twice: once in the class definition and once outside the class definition which establishes storage space. e.g. // in .h file class CFoo { // ... static int x; }; // in .cpp file int CFoo::x = 42; Now in the VC10 headers we get something like this: template<class _Elem> class numpunct : public locale::facet { // ... _CRTIMP2_PURE static locale::id id; // ... } When the header is included in an application, _CRTIMP2_PURE is defined as __declspec(dllimport), which means that the variable is imported from a dll. Now the header also contains the following template<class _Elem> locale::id numpunct<_Elem>::id; Note the absence of the __declspec(dllimport) qualifier. i.e. The class declaration says that the static linkage of the id variable is in the dll, but for the general case, it gets declared outside the dll. For the known cases, there are specialisations. template locale::id numpunct<char>::id; template locale::id numpunct<wchar_t>::id; These are protected by #ifs so that they are only included when building the DLL. They are excluded otherwise. i.e. the char and wchar_t versions of numpunct ARE inside the dll So we have the class definition saying that id's storage is in the DLL, but that is only true for the char and wchar_t specialisations, meaning that my unsigned char version is doomed. :-( The only way forward that I can think of is to create my own specialisation: basically copying it from the header file and fixing it. This raises many issues. Anybody have a better idea?

Using MS Office 2003 on development machine and Windows Server 2003 Still fairly new to .NET and don't have much knowledge about window server, but "UnauthorizedAccessException" sounds like a permission issue. • ODBC continually prompts for password

  I have an application built in Access 2003 that uses a system DSN ODBC to connect to a SQL Server. The ODBC uses SQL authentication. When the application is started, the user is prompted to authenticate into the database. I have another computer set up within the same domain that has Access 2007 installed on it. I log in using the same credentials that I use to get on the machine that has Access 2003. I converted my application to Access 2007 format and everything works fine. However, when other users try to use the application, they are prompted to enter the database password every time a table is accessed. Thinking it was a problem with my ODBC, I confirmed that the connections were set up the same way on both of my machines, and the user's machine. Here is the interesting part, when the user logged into my machine, it started prompting for the password every time. When I logged into the user's machine, the application worked fine. Anyone have any ideas? All help is appreciated!

• Outlook Interop Send Message from Account

  Okay, the specs have changed on this one somewhat. Maybe someone can help me with this new problem. Manually, what the user is doing is opening an new message in Outlook (2007 now) which has the "From..." field exposed. They open this up, select a certain account from the Global Address List, and send the message on behalf of that account. Is this possible to do? I can get the AddressEntry from the Global address list like so: AddressList list = null; foreach (AddressList addressList in _outlookApp.Session.AddressLists) { if (addressList.Name.ToLower().Equals("global address list")) { list = addressList; break; } } if (list != null) { AddressEntry entry = null; foreach (AddressEntry addressEntry in list.AddressEntries) { if (addressEntry.Name.ToLower().Equals("outgoing mail account")) { entry = addressEntry; break; } } } But I'm not sure I can make an Account type from the Address Entry. It seems to happen manually, when they select the address to send from. How do I mirror this in the Interop? Thanks! (My Original Question): I developed a small C# program to send email using the Outlook 2007 interop. The client required that the mail not be send using the default account - they had a secondary account they needed used. No problem - I used the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Account class to access the availabled accounts, and choose the correct one. Now, it turns out they need this to work in Outlook 2003. Of course, the Account class doesn't exist in the Outlook interop 11.0. How can I achieve the same thing with Outlook 2003? Thanks in advance.

• Remove mailmerge data source via OpenXML

  I have some code that uses OpenXML to open up a docx file, find all mailmerge fields, and replace them with data (ignoring the datasource that may have been provided). I initially tested this against a document created in Office 2007 and it seemed to work great. We then created one in 2003 based off an Excel spreadsheet data source and saved it to 2007 docx format. When we open the file produced by my code, Word warns the user that it is going to execute some SQL, specifically "SELECT * from 'Sheet1$'". It has options of Yes/No. Selecting Yes requires I find the data source. Selecting No brings me to the document, which appears to be correct. I'm not sure why I'm now seeing this pop up. Perhaps it's due to a different data source for the 2003 document? My hope was that there was a way to delete all references to any datasources and that the pop-up wouldn't show. I found this, but it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

  Hi, I'm getting the following error whenever my code creates a DataTableReader from a valid DataTable Object: "DataTableReader is invalid for current DataTable 'TempTable'." The thing is, if I reboot my machine, it works fine for an undertimed amount of time, then dies with the above. The code that throws this error could have been working fine for hours and then: bang. you get this error. It's not limited to one line either; it's every single location that a DataTableReader is used. Also, this error does NOT occur on the production web server - ever. This is an example of one of the lines where it falls over: If I step over this line, I get this: However, if I do this in the immediate window: I get no problems. Same goes if I actually use that line in the code. This has been driving me nuts for the best part of a week, and I've failed to find anything on Google that could help (as I'm pretty positive this isn't a coding issue). • desktop shortcut icon not showing in web setup project

  i've created a web setup project and i wanted it to create a desktop shortcut to the web application (ex: http://localhost/xx/yy.aspx). up to this point it was pretty easy: i created a shortcut (doesnt matter where), gave it the url i wanted, added this to the User's Desktop special folder of my web setup project, and it was placed on the desktop after the installation. but then i wanted to display my custom shortcut icon. i set the icon of the shortcut i've created on my file system. then i re-included this to the setup project. however after the installation the shortcut kept showing the default IE icon again. (i tried these on windows 2003 server, on win xp the shortcut showed up iconless) after some trials i found another way: i recreated an iconless shortcut on my file system, opened my web setup project, included this shortcut and my icon to Web Application Folder under File System on Target Machine, then clicked on User's Desktop, right clicked on the right hand side blank area, selected Create New Shortcut and chose the shortcut i've just added. Then under User's Desktop i clicked on the newly created shortcut, opened the Properties window and set its Icon property to my included icon. These steps solved it all both on 2003 server and win xp. Though this wasnt really a question i wanted to share it anyways because it was quite annoying.

  Hi, I'm a C++ programmer, I use Visual Studio 2008 Professional, only unmanaged code. I'm thinking of buying VS 2010 Pro. I'm confused, I don't know what are differences between those two. I know that, in plus, it has tr1 included. When I started using 2008 edition I was very pleased to see f.e. unit testing support but all new features are only for managed code. The C++ debugger in 2008 is very good, better than 2003 edition one. I would't like to buy a new tool and discover that I gained nothing and lost some functionality ( because f.e. something was moved to higher version). Once upon a time I switched from very good VS6 to VS 2003.Net and imagine what, after some time I discovered that Pro has no support for code optimalization. It is wonderful how Microsoft makes money. I wouldn't like to experience something like that again. What do you think, what can you recommended?

No matching voice is installed or the voice was disabled." This is being done from within an ASP.NET web application - running on Windows Server 2003 R2. When I run this from within Visual Studio 2008 - everything works fine. I created a simple Console app to perform the same action - then ran it from the Windows Server 2003 machine - and it worked fine. I even modified the code in the Console app to loop through each of the installed voices and select the voice. No problems. However, when doing the same from within the web application, I get the same error. I am beating my head against a wall on this one. ANY help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Chris

  The application is running on a windows server 2003 box using asp.net 2.0 and is an IE specific web app. There is a button that opens a form in an iframe using showModalDialog(...) from a function call located in the javascript. However, if no changed were made before the form was submitted, another modal window pops up stating that there were no changed to the form. I'm inclined to believe that there is some configuration issue somewhere, but with the settings being the same it is hard to tell. I cannot really change how the app works or the technologies used either. Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this?

  Dear All, I have problem with Full-Text Search service in production environment. • Is it legal to have SOAP envelopes with different namespaces between the request and response?

  I'm new to SOAP and web services, and I'm getting an error I don't understand. Using soapUI, I'm sending the following request: <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:doc="http://myproj.mycompany.com"> <soapenv:Header/> <soapenv:Body>... and getting this response: <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope"> <soap:Body>... I know the service is getting the info, because things are happening properly down the line. However, my soapUI teststep fails. It has two active assertions: "SOAP Response" and "Not SOAP Fault." The failure marker is next to "SOAP Response," with the following message: line -1: Element Envelope@http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope is not a valid Envelope@http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/ document or a valid substitution. So far, I have tried modifying the URLs and namespaces of the messages to match each other, and adding the following line: <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope" substitutionGroup="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"/> Is this namespace mixing legal? Is my problem actually something else?

  Hi guys, I have little problem. I used certificate authority in windows server 2003 and revoked client certificate. The client certificate is in revoked certificate. I try verify this client certificate on revocation in winform app in windows server 2003. I am confuse, where can be problem ? How can I check revocation list, which is loaded in winform application and used on verification this client certificate? So the problem is I verify client certificate, which is in revoked list (in certification authority) with method VefiryCert, an the certificate is verify as TRUE. Can somebody help me ?
