  • Best solution for exporting Word documents to PDF programatically (without using a "software printer

    I'm looking for a way to export a Word document as a PDF. I would like to do this without the use of a "software printer" (such as CutePDF, etc.) and stick to reference assemblies if at all possible. I'm using Microsoft Office Interop Assemblies to generate a Word Document which I save to a temporary directory. So its not necessary for this solution to interact directly with Microsoft Office, unless it needs to. Any help or feedback you might have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • How do I deploy my ASP MVC project to my Win7 system?

    Hi, I am deploying my first ASP MVC project. The project runs just fine, I would like to take the next step and run this outside of my visual studio environment on my local IIS. I am running Windows7, Visual Studio 2008, and I have created a basic ASP MVC project. On my solution, I find the project I would like to deploy. I right click and select Publish. I have backed up C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ and would like to deploy there. I accept all defaults, and click the "Publish" button. The Output Build window shows 1 project failed. Basically is says that it is unable to add any of the binaries to the site, copy files, create new directories... Access is denied. When I do click "Publish" at work, I don't get these errors. What do I have to do here to publish the website to make the website available to the rest of my home network? Also wwwroot appears to be readonly, but telling the folder to not be read only doesn't seem to help, it still appears to be readonly even after I've unselected this property in the property dialog.

  • SVN Server not responding

    I've been bashing my head against a wall with this one all day and I would greatly appreciate a few more eyes on the problem at hand. We have an in-house SVN Server that contains all live and development code for our website. Our live server can connect to this and get updates from the repository. This was all working fine until we migrated the SVN Server from a physical machine to a vSphere VM. Now, for some reason that continues to fathom me, we can no longer connect to the SVN Server. The SVN Server runs CentOS 6.2, Apache and SVN 1.7.2. SELinux is well and trully disabled and the problem remains when iptables is stopped. Our production server does run an older version of CentOS and SVN but the same system worked previously so I don't think that this is the issue. Of note, if I have iptables enabled, using service iptables status, I can see a single packet coming in and being accepted but the production server simply hangs on any svn command. If I give up waiting and do a CTRL-C to break the process I get a "could not connect to server". To me it appears to be something to do with the SVN Server rejecting external connections but I have no idea how this would happen. Any thoughts on what I can try from here? Great. But while doing some research for speeding up my database access, I ran into this blog post... Improving Entity Framework Performance The post argues that EFs poor performance compared to other frameworks is often due to the EntityConnection object being created each time a new EntityContext object is needed. To test this I manually created a static EntityConnection in Global.asax.cs Application_Start(). I then converted all my context using statements to using( MyObjContext currContext = new MyObjeContext(globalStaticEFConnection) { .... } This seems to have sped things up a bit without any errors so far as far as I can tell. But is this safe? Does using a applicationwide static EntityConnection introduce race conditions? Best regards, Kervin

The Title field in the Customer object has a value, so the data is being passed around, but not being validated? Any clues?

    Here's an example app that I built to demonstrate my problem. A single aspx page with the following on it: <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager runat="server" /> <asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnGo" Text="Go" OnClick="btnGo_Click" /> <asp:UpdatePanel runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtVal1" /> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> </form> Then, in code behind, we have the following: protected void btnGo_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Thread.Sleep(5000); Debug.WriteLine(string.Format("{0}: {1}", DateTime.Now.ToString("HH:MM:ss.fffffff"), txtVal1.Text)); txtVal1.Text = ""; } If you run this and click on the "Go" button multiple times you will see multiple debug statements on the "Output" window showing that multiple requests have been processed. This appears to contradict the documented behaviour of update panels (i.e. If you make a request while one is processing, the first requests gets terminated and the current one is processed). Anyway, the point is I want to fix it. The obvious option would be to use Javascript to disable the button after the first press, but that strikes me as hard to maintain, we potentially have the same issue on a lot of screens it could be easily broken if someone renames a button. Do you have any suggestions? Perhaps there is something I could do in BeginRequest in Global.asax to detect a duplicate request? Is there some setting or feature on the UpdatePanel to stop it doing this, or maybe something in the AjaxControlToolkit that will prevent it?

  • Case insensitive string compare in LINQ-to-SQL

    I've read that it's unwise to use ToUpper and ToLower to perform case-insensitive string comparisons, but I see no alternative when it comes to LINQ-to-SQL. The ignoreCase and CompareOptions arguments of String.Compare are ignored by LINQ-to-SQL (if you're using a case-sensitive database, you get a case-sensitive comparison even if you ask for a case-insensitive comparison). Is ToLower or ToUpper the best option here? Is one better than the other? I thought I read somewhere that ToUpper was better, but I don't know if that applies here. (I'm doing a lot of code reviews and everyone is using ToLower.)     I have two AccessDataSources each returning one row. I want to use the data in each row to populate content on my page, so I figured I would use a Repeater or FormView. However, I would not necessarily want the labels bound to a particular DataSource placed together. For example, I might want labels from the following columns in order (DataSourceName.ColumnName): TestSetup.TestType, TestSummary.FormattedValue, TestSetup.DeviceChannel, TestSummary.CompletedOn. How do I handle this? Do I just have a separate Repeater/FormView for each value? Can I have both Repeater's/FormView's in 'scope' at the same time? Note: No language preference (C#/VB).

  • Recording object method calls to generate automated test.

    I have an object with large interface and I would like to record all its method calls done during a user session. Ideally this sequence of calls would be available as source code: myobj.MethodA(42); myobj.MethodB("spam", false); ... I would then convert this code to a test case to have a kind of automated smoke/load test. WCF Load Test can do this for WCF services and CodedUI test recorder can do this for UIs. What are my options for a POCO class? I am in position to edit application code and replace the object in question with some recording/forwarding proxy.

  • Is the order of params important in NHibernate?

    If I have an int parameter followed by a string parameter in a sproc I get the following error: Input string was not in the correct format However, if I switch those parameters in the sproc than I get the result set I expect. Are params sorted by data type, or do I have to do anything special in my config file? I can display the initial image, which is already in the folder, and I can also detect when a new image is saved into the folder but I don't know how to display the new images.     Hi, I am trying to write a custom theme for orchard and am not having much success so far. I have read Bertrand Le Roy's article on part alternates but I can't seem to get it to work. I am displaying a list of recent blog posts on the front page, pretty standard. I wish to change the markup produced by the meta data part i.e the time format. Should I just create an alternate with a fixed name like "Metadata-BlogPost" and use that, to make this general purpose it should really be a dynamic name so I can use another alternate template elsewhere.   • What's the reason both Image and Bitmap classes don't implement a custom equality/hashcode logic?

    From MSDN documentation, it seems as both GetHashCode() and Equals() haven't been overriden in Bitmap. Neither have them been overriden in Image. So both classes are using the Object's version of them just compares references. I wasn't too convinced so I decided to fire up Reflector to check it out. It seems MSDN is correct in that matter. So, is there any special reason why MS guys wouldn't implement "comparison logic", at least for the Bitmap class? I find it is kinda acceptable for Image, as it is an abstract class, but not so much for the Bitmap class. I can see in a lot of situations calculating the hash code can be an expensive operation, but it'd be alright if it used some kind of lazy evaluation (storing the computed hash code integer in a variable a variable, so it wouldn't have to calculate it later again). When wanting to compare 2 bitmaps, will I have to resort to having to run all over the picture comparing each one of its pixels? Thanks
