    I'm an experienced PHP web developer and am wanting to learn ASP.NET so that I can consider going for ASP.NET jobs. I've looked at a few introduction to ASP.NET books but I always find that they start far to simple and cover the basics of HTML and general web development. I'm looking for learning resources that will help me make that transition as an experienced web developer. Can anyone recommend any?

  • Visual Studio - 'Browse UDDI Servers' -> 404 ?

    - by southof40
    Hi - I have a ASP.Net application which implements a web service. Within the ASP.Net application there's a test script which consumes the web service and it all works etc. I have built a .NET console application and want to 'Add a Web Reference' so that the console app can consume the web service provided by the ASP.NET application. When I use the 'Browse UDDI Servers on the local network' to do that any plausible URL I use results in a 404. I'm guessing I need to do something to my ASP.Net application so that it acts as an UDDI server ? Does anyone know what ? Update I just wanted to clarify something - I'm not desperate to use UDDI it just seems that's the only option in my circumstances which are : I'm actually doing this for another developer who is used to using Visual Studio to do this stuff The other developers system will need to run on another machine within the same network.

  • TreeView nodes always have .Checked=true on postback even when not checked in UI

    - by GISmatters
    I have a treeview in my .aspx: <asp:TreeView ID="tvDocCatAndType" runat="server" /> Not much else going on in the page -- two <asp:LinkButtons> and one <asp:Label>; the page is a child of a master page, so these controls are within a <asp:Content> control. I populate the treeview in code -- just 3 node levels, including the root node. All nodes have checkboxes, and I initialize all node.Checked to true. I have some Javascript to do the usual check/uncheck up and down the tree as parent and child node checkboxes are toggled. No matter how many checkboxes I clear in the UI, on postback every single node has node.Checked = true regardless of the state of the checkbox in the UI. This is not the first time I've used a treeview, but I've never had this problem before. I created this page by light adaptation of an earlier project that works fine. Thanks in advance for any helpful comments or questions, Chris

  • Help with MVC controller: passing a string from view to controller

    - by 109221793
    Hi guys, I'm having trouble with one particular issue, I was hoping someone could help me out. I've completed the MVC Music Store tutorial, and now I'm trying to add some administrator functionality - practice as I will have to do this in an MVC application in my job. The application is using the aspnet membership api, and what I have done so far is created a view to list the users. What I want to be able to do, is click on the users name in order to change their password. To try and carry the username to the changeUserPassword controller (custom made). I registered a new route in the global.asax.cs file in order to display the username in the URL, which is working so far. UserList View <%: Html.RouteLink(user.UserName, "AdminPassword", new { controller="StoreManager", action="changeUserPassword", username = user.UserName }) %> Global.asax.cs routes.MapRoute( "AdminPassword", //Route name "{controller}/{action}/{username}", //URL with parameters new { controller = "StoreManager", action = "changeUserPassword", username = UrlParameter.Optional} ); So now the URL looks like this when I reach the changeUserPassword view: http://localhost:51236/StoreManager/changeUserPassword/Administrator Here is the GET changeUserPassword action: public ActionResult changeUserPassword(string username) { ViewData["username"] = username; return View(); } I wanted to store the username in ViewData as I would like to use it in the GET changeUserPassword for display purposes, and also as a hidden value in the form. This is in order to pass it through to enable me to reset the password. Having debugged through the code, it seems that 'username' is null. How can I get this to work so that the username carries over from the Html.RouteLink, to the changeUserPassword action? Any help would be appreciated :) Here is my complete code: UserList.aspx <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<System.Web.Security.MembershipUserCollection>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> UserList </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>UserList</h2> <table> <tr> <th>User Name</th> <th>Last Activity date</th> <th>Locked Out</th> </tr> <%foreach (MembershipUser user in Model){ %> <tr> <td><%: Html.RouteLink(user.UserName, "AdminPassword", new { controller="StoreManager", action="changeUserPassword", username = user.UserName }) %></td> <td><%: user.LastActivityDate %></td> <td><%: user.IsLockedOut %></td> </tr> <% }%> </table> </asp:Content> changeUserPassword.aspx <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<musicStoreMVC.ViewModels.ResetPasswordAdmin>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> changeUserPassword </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>Change Password: <%: ViewData["username"] %></h2> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%> <%: Html.ValidationSummary(true) %> <fieldset> <legend>Fields</legend> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.Hidden("username",ViewData["username"]) %> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.password) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.password) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.password) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.confirmPassword) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.confirmPassword) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.confirmPassword) %> </div> <p> <input type="submit" value="Create" /> </p> </fieldset> <% } %> <div> <%: Html.ActionLink("Back to List", "Index") %> </div> </asp:Content> My actions public ActionResult UserList() { var users = Membership.GetAllUsers(); return View(users); } public ActionResult changeUserPassword(string username) { ViewData["username"] = username; return View(); }

  • I'm trying to handle the updates on 2 related tables in one DetailsView using Jquery and Linq, and h

    - by Ben Reisner
    Given two related tables (reports, report_fields) where there can be many report_fields entries for each reports entry, I need to allow the user to enter new report_fields, delete existing report_fields, and re-arrange the order. Currently I am using a DetailsView to handle the editing of the reports. I added some logic to handle report_fields, and currently it allows you to succesfully re-arrange the order, but i'm a little stumped as to the best way to add new items, or delete existing items. The basic logic I have is that each report_fields is represented by a . It has a description as the text, and a field for each field in the report_fields table. I use JQuery Sortable to allow the user to re-arrange the LIs. Abbreviated Create Table Statements:(foreign key constraint ignored for brevity) create table report( id integer primary key identity, reportname varchar(250) ) create table report_fields( id integer primary key identity, reportID integer, keyname integer, keyvalue integer, field_order integer ) My abbreviated markup: <asp:DetailsView ...> ... <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Fields"> <EditItemTemplate> <ul class="MySortable"> <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server" DataSource='<%# Eval("report_fields") %>'> <ItemTemplate> <li> <%# Eval("keyname") %>: <%# Eval("keyvalue") %> <input type="hidden" name="keyname[]" value='<%# Eval("keyname") %>' /> <input type="hidden" name="keyvalue[]" value='<%# Eval("keyvalue") %>' /> </li> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> </ul> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </asp:DetailsView> <asp:LinqDataSource ID="LinqDataSource2" onupdating="LinqDataSource2_Updating" table=reports ... /> $(function() { $(".MySortable").sortable({ placeholder: 'MySortable-highlight' }).disableSelection(); }); Code Behind Class: public partial class Administration_AddEditReport protected void LinqDataSource2_Updating(object sender, LinqDataSourceUpdateEventArgs e) { report r = (report)e.NewObject; MyDataContext dc = new MyDataContext(); var fields = from f in dc.report_fields where f.reportID == r.id select f; dc.report_fields.DeleteAllOnSubmit(fields); NameValueCollection nvc = Request.Params; string[] keyname = nvc["keyname[]"].Split(','); string[] keyvalue = nvc["keyvalue[]"].Split(','); for (int i = 0; i < keyname.Length; i++) { report_field rf = new report_field(); rf.reportID = r.id; rf.keyname = keyname[i]; rf.keyvalue = keyvalue[i]; rf.field_order = i; dc.report_fields.InsertOnSubmit(rf); } dc.SubmitChanges(); } }

  • Can I populate multiple DropDownLists from one SqlDataSource using parameters?

    - by death_au
    Basically, I have four asp:DropDownLists and I wish to populate all of them from the same table, with certain conditions. For example, I have this data source: <asp:SqlDataSource ID="ReferenceDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:mrapConnectionString1 %> SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [reference_data] WHERE ([component] = @component)" > <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="MB" Name="component" Type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> And I want to know if I can change that component parameter to be different for each of my four dropdown lists. I tried adding the following code on the DataBinding event for my DropDown: ReferenceDataSource1.SelectParameters.Remove(ReferenceDataSource1.SelectParameters["component"]); ReferenceDataSource1.SelectParameters.Add("component", "MB"); But I ironically got a StackOverflowException...

  • Input string was not in the correct format using int.Parse

    - by JDWebs
    I have recently been making a login 'representation' which is not secure. So before answering, please note I am aware of security risks etc., and this will not be on a live site. Also note I am a beginner :P. For my login representation, I am using LINQ to compare values of a DDL to select a username and a Textbox to enter a password, when a login button is clicked. However, an error is thrown 'Input string was not in the correct format', when using int.Parse. - by tuseau
    Hi, I keep receiving this error in my ASP.NET web app (below). I give the Network Service account rights to the specified folder, it runs fine for a while, but then within a day or two the error reoccurs, as the Network Service account has been removed from the rights for the folder. Adding it again fixes it, but why does it keep reocurring? Could it be anything to do with using Interop components (such as WMI)? Here's the full error: Server Error in '/DriveMonitor' Application. So how do I ensure that the Javascript for the partial view is at the bottom of the page? Especially in cases where the html layout needs to be at the top of the page?

  • Refresh a control on the master page after postback

    - by Andreas
    Hi all! What i am trying to do here is to show a couple of validation messages in form of a bulletlist, so i have a Div on my master page containing a asp:bulletlist. Like this: <div> <asp:BulletedList ID="blstValidationErrorMessage" runat="server" BulletStyle="Disc"> </asp:BulletedList> </div> When i then click the Save button from any of my pages (inside the main contentPlaceHolder) i create a list of messages and give this list as datasouce like this: blstValidationErrorMessage.DataSource = validationMessageCollection; blstValidationErrorMessage.DataBind(); The save button is located inside an updatepanel: asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="UpdatePanel" ChildrenAsTriggers="true" UpdateMode="Conditional" Nothing happens, i can see that the datasource of the bulletlist contains X items, the problems must arise because the Save button is inside an update panel and the elements outside this updatepanel (master page controls for example) is not refreshed. So my question is, how do i make the bulletlist refresh after the postback? Thanks in advance.

  • Postback Removing Styling from Page

    Hi, Currently I've created a ASP.Net page that has a dropdown control with autopostback set to true. I've also added color backgrounds for individual listitems. • What's the usual term for a local IIS/web application with services?

    - by JBRWilkinson
    I've inherited a multi-technology project which comprises a Flash user interface contained in a web-browser-like host and has an ASP.NET piece which provides web services to the Flash UI, background/watchdog services plus a web application for administration of the system. Our transatlantic project conference calls are getting confusing due to the various terms people use to describe the ASP.NET piece. Indeed, ASP.NET has its' own project terminology including 'Web Site' and 'Web Application' to both of which one can add a 'Web Service'. Is there any commonly-used name for this ASP.NET multi-purpose project piece?
