• What should I do to recompile my static library (originally written in VS6) in visual studio 2008?

  There is a static library A with c++ classes wrapped by a C API in VS6. I developed a static library B in VS6 using callbacks from library A. The library B is used by the program C (commercial software) as a "user defined library" and linked to produce the program D. Questions: 1) When program C uses VS 6 it works, should it work fine with VS 2008? Because it doesn't. 2) When I tried to recompile library B in VS 2008 it gave me a .lib file with only 28KB, and the old one had more than 2MB. Is it ok? What Am I probably doing wrong? • Best Ruby ORM for Wrapping around Legacy MSSQL Database?

  Hi. I found this answer and it sounds like almost exactly what I'm doing. I have heard mixed answers about whether or not datamapper can support mssql through dataobjects. Basically, we have an app that uses a consistently structured database, consistently named tables, etc in MSSQL. We're making all kinds of tools and stuff that have to interact with it, some of them remotely and so I decided that we need to create some common, simple access point to do read/write operations on the MSSQL app since it's API is all C# and other things I despise. Now my question is if anyone has any examples or projects they know of where a ruby ORM can essentially create models for another application's legacy database by defining the conventions of each model's pkeys, fkeys, table names, etc. Sequel is the only ORM I've used with MSSQL but never to do anything quite like this. Any suggestions?

• Check if a class is subclass of another class in Java

  Hi! I'm playing around with Java's reflection API and trying to handle some fields. Now I'm stuck with identifying the type of my fields. Strings are easy, just do myField.getType().equals(String.class). The same applies for other non-derived classes. But how do I check derived classes? E.g. LinkedList as subclass of List. I can't find any isSubclassOf(...) or extends(...) method. Do I need to walk through all getSuperClass() and find my supeclass by my own? Thanks! craesh

• Is vbscripting that difficult?

  I need to write some vbscripts in my new project. I was told by other people that vbscripting is easy, but seems to me, it is not. For example, in the following example (provided by microsoft), these functions: CreateObject, CreateShortcut, as well as these property names: TargetPath, WindowStyle, Hotkey, etc, are used, but I just cannot find the corresponding API documentation about how to use them. In other words, how do you know you need to call these functions in your vbscripts? Visual Studio 2008/2010 do not have templates for vbscript either.   I'd like to create HTNML documentation for a Java class library that includes programming guide information - beyond just a class reference code examples in the reference doc collapsible regions I want it to look well-styled. Something like this: I think that Javadoc exposes a doclet API that allows other parties to provide doc generation integrated in Javadoc. Is there a doclet option that I can use (for free) that does something a little nicer than the standard javadoc output? I tried googling for this but no luck. Suggestions?

I think it is because the access token expires. how can I change this code to incorporate the extended access token to log in the user to my site? offline access token is deprecated, so I need to use the extended access token.

  Hi there, i have a very simple question about Google Maps API. In this case, i have on my page a map on the left, with about 40 points, and the list of these 40 points on the right. So you know, when you click on a point of the map, the "info window" is displayed so you can see some informations about it. I can't find how can i do to simply open the "info window" on the map, by making a "hover" on the corresponding link. • Excluding items from TOC in Sphinx (documenter)?

  I'm using sphinx to document our internal API. For each class we're listing methods and then sub-sections under each such as Description and Examples, etc. The Table of Contents is generated automatically in the sidebar, which is great except that it lists all the sub-sections. I am looking for a way to tell Sphinx to ignore certain headings when generating the TOC. I have scoured the docs but have not found what I need. I'm sure it's something I missed. Some advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

  Dear experts, I would like to implement a API of Javascript that sort of resemble a light switch. For instance, there are two buttons on the actual HTML page act as the UI. Both of the buttons have event handlers that invokes a different function. Each function have codes that act like a state, for instance. button1.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //code effects 2 ) } button2.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //Code effects 2 ) } I the code works fine on the surface but the 2 state functions overlap. the effects is going to take place for the rest of the way until the next reload of the document. Basically what I want to achieve is that when 1 button is clicked, it will switch "OFF" the state of function invoked by the other button and vice versa. Thus, the effects achieved are unique are not overlapped. Is there anyway to achieve this or could any experts point me to the right direction. Thanks in advance.

  I'm using Hibernate 3.2.1.ga, hibernate annotations 3.2.1.ga, and hibernate-jpa-2.0-api. I can't upgrade at this time as I'm working with legacy code. I have this generic method for saving or updating objects ... protected void saveOrUpdate(Object obj) { final Session session = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession(); session.saveOrUpdate(obj); } You can assume that every argument, "obj," will have a member field that is marked with the "@Id" annotation. I would like to change the return type to return an Object that represents the persisted object in the database (meaning if "obj" didn't contain an id before, what is returned is the database object with a populated id. What is the fastest way to do this given my versioning and generic constraints?

  I want to get address of instruction that causes external program to SIGSEGV. I tried using ptrace for this, but I'm getting EIP from kernel space (probably default signal handler?). How GDB is able to get the correct EIP? Is there a way to make GDB provide this information using some API? edit: I don't have sources of the program, only binary executable. I need automation, so I can't simply use "run", "info registers" in GDB. I want to implement "info registers" in my own mini-debugger :)

• C++ MFC add combo box string item from a widget ID

  I've added a combo box in the gui editor in MSVC 2010 pro in my MFC project. I have a list of strings I am grabbing from an external source and want to add them to my combo box. I've searched for a while, and every post seems to suggest I need to use the CComboBox class, however, I have no idea how to get the class variable from the resource ID of the combobox element in the gui editor. In summary, how do I add a string to my combo box, either using a macro (like CB_ADDSTRING(RESOURCE_ID, "my string");) or using CComboBOx (something like CComboBox::GetObject(RESOURCE_ID)->AddString("blah");). I do not do much win32 api/mfc programming, and just started fiddling around with it.

  We're currently in the process of looking for an online payment service that will allow us to accept credit cards, etc. However, our business model also involves revenue sharing in a model similar to that of iTunes. That is, content creators will be able to sell content through our site and we take a small percentage of the revenue. Can anyone recommend an online payment service that supports this model? We're also interested in: Accept all major credit cards Being able to do international transactions in the appropriate local currency Recurring transactions (monthly, yearly, etc.) Additionally, if the service provided a Java API for integration or the ability to broker PayPal transactions that would be an added bonus. I know Amazon provides a hosted payment service, but I'd prefer not to require all of our customers to have an Amazon account. That provides an additional barrier to entry that we'd prefer to avoid. • JavaScript QR Code Reader - can it be done? Or, Remote Service?

  I'm doing a bit of preliminary research on an upcoming project and I have a quick question that I figure I'll throw up here while I look elsewhere, in case anyone has any experience with this. The question is simple: is it possible to read a QR code using JavaScript? Is there a remote service to which I can pass a bitmap object from a camera and do it that way? Are there currently any libraries that allow this? The project is going to be deployed to various mobile devices and we'd like to try to use Appcelerator to make it work. I know Appcelerator does expose the Camera API on its host devices, but whatever we do with it has to be able to parse QR codes. Is this something that can be done? Thanks in advance! myk

  I have a method which does some sync calls to a specific REST api, something like: WSRequestHolder url = WS.url("rest_api_url"); Promise<WS.Response> promisePerPage = url.get(); promisePerPage.getWrappedPromise().await(3000, TimeUnit.MILLISECONDS); WS.Response responsePerPage = promisePerPage.get(); ProductsWrapper productsWrapper = new Gson().fromJson(responsePerPage.getBody(), ProductsWrapper.class); As you notice, I put 3 seconds between calls so each request can be parsed in time and inserted in DB. All works great locally but after I deploy to cloud, all goes continuously, without any more waiting (3 seconds) between requests... Do you know why?

  lets say i do something like arrs = Article.where(:body => nil) i'll have arrs.count is let's say 900 and i do arrs.each do |ar| ar.delay.download_via_diffbot #a method that takes some time, does some http, and writes a non-nil value to ar.body end now i'll watch the logs, and a wait a few minutes on ~5 dynos do the jobs, and do a count again: arrs.count is now ~800 so wtf, i thought i just told my workers to do ~900 jobs, what happened to the other 800? i can confirm that i'm only making ~100 HTTP requests b/c the api reporting shows me this, also simply watching the logs is telling enough that 900 jobs are not happening.

  I am looking into a TSQL command called "xp_cmdshell" to use to monitor a change to a the SLK (SharePoint Learning Kit) database and then execute a batch or PowerShell script that will trigger some events that I need. (It is bad practice to modify SharePoint's database directly, so I will be using its API) I have been reading on various blogs and MSDN that there are some security concerns with this approach. The sites suggest that you limit security so the command can be executed by only a specific user role. What other tips/suggestions would you recommend with using "xp_cmdshell"? Or should I go about this another way and create a script or console application that constantly checks if a change has been made? I am running Server 2008 with SQL 2008.

• Using Angularjs with server side templates

  For SEO purposes the server renders out the full html template for a given URL on initial load. The site uses angularjs which detects the URL route and renders a client template from the JSON API. For example, you navigate to: /blog/post-title Server responds with post-title content. Angular loads, detects route: /blog/:post_slug and begins to load JSON and render client side template from response. Obviously what Angular does is fine when links are followed after the initial load, but on first load it duplicates effort. My question is if there is a clean way to prevent this situation.
