Xen 4.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.10 not booting

I'm trying to get Xen 4.0.1 run as dom0 on a fresh/clean install of 10.10 desktop (x64). I cannot install a proporietary fglrx driver

OK my install failed while installing the amd proprietary driver. I keep seeing references to a Nvidia driver, but I do not have or even want anything pertaining to Nvidia. If you get the following error when trying to write an expression there is an easy solution Attempt to parse the expression "@[User::FilePath] + "\" + @[User::FileName] + ".raw"" failed. The token "." at line number "1", character number "<some position>" was not recognized. The expression cannot be parsed because it contains invalid elements at the location specified. The SSIS expression language is a C based language and the \ is a token, this means you have to escape it with another one. i.e "\" becomes "\\", unlike C# you can't prefix the string with a @, you have to use the escaping route. In summary when ever you want to use \ you need to use two \\

How do I get Unity working again after installing the wrong video driver?

First off I did something stupid. I downloaded a Nvidia driver even though I have an integrated chipset. After installation my unity was still working. However, when I restarted my computer I got an error message saying that I can't run unity. I uninstalled the Nvidia driver. I restarted my computer. Unity still does not work. In the terminal I type "unity" and everything looks okay until I get three error messages that say this: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". followed by: Compiz (opengl) - Fatal: glXCreateContext failed Compiz (bailer) - Info: Ensuring a shell for your session jesse@jesse-PC:~$ Cannot register the panel shell: there is already one running.

How to unhide an application?

I hope you can help me. I have installed ubuntu 12.04 using wubi, my issue is i installed iptux using ubuntu software center, it worked fine, i decided that i wanted it to be hidden at start up, so i changed its setting in preferences. i assumed that if i needed to use it i could go to internet menu and select it. But after restarting i found that after i click on iptux under Internet nothing happens, but i click it after that then a small window shows Fatal Error!! Failed to bind the TCP/UDP port(2425)! Address already in use. I have tried uninstalling using ubuntu software center and reinstalling it but it still had the same problem. I thought it maybe because some files were not uninstalled by USC, so i installed synaptic and uninstalled iptux (complete uninstallation) and then reinstalled it and the same situation occurs. I was hoping someone could inform me how i could unhide iptux. Thank You

A “large” environment is categorized by the number of agents, targets and users. See the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Advanced Installation and Configuration Guide chapter on Sizing for more details on sizing your environment properly. Part 1 of this series covered recommended configuration changes for the OMS and Repository Part 2 covered recommended changes for the Weblogic server Part 3 covers general configuration recommendations and a few known issues The entire series can be found in the My Oracle Support note titled Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Configuration Best Practices [1553342.1]. Configuration Recommendations Configure E-Mail Notifications for EM related Alerts In some environments, the notifications for events for different target types may be sent to different support teams (i.e. notifications on host targets may be sent to a platform support team). However, the EM application administrators should be well informed of any alerts or problems seen on the EM infrastructure components. Recommendation: Create a new Incident rule for monitoring all EM components and setup the notifications to be sent to the EM administrator(s). The notification methods available can create or update an incident, send an email or forward to an event connector. To setup the incident rule set follow the steps below. Note that each individual rule in the rule set can have different actions configured. 1. To create an incident rule for monitoring the EM components, click on Setup / Incidents / Incident Rules. On the All Enterprise Rules page, click on the out-of-box rule called “Incident management Ruleset for all targets” and then click on the Actions drop down list and select “Create Like Rule Set…” 2. For the rule set name, enter a name such as MTM Ruleset. Under the Targets tab, select “All targets of types” and select “OMS and Repository” from the drop down list. This target type contains all of the key EM components (OMS servers, repository, domains, etc.) 3. Click on the Rules tab. To edit a rule, click on the rule name and click on Edit as seen below 4. Modify the following rules: a. Incident creation Rule for metric alerts i. Leave the Type set as is but change the Severity to add Warning by clicking on the drop down list and selecting “Warning”. Click Next. ii. Add or modify the actions as required (i.e. add email notifications). Click Continue and then click Next. iii. Leave the Name and description the same and click Next. iv. Click Continue on the Review page. b. Incident creation Rule for target unreachable. i. Leave the Type set as is but change the Target type to add OMS and Repository by clicking on the drop down list selecting “OMS and Repository”. Click Next. ii. Add or modify the actions as required (i.e. add email notifications) Click Continue and then click Next. iii. Leave the Name and description the same and click Next. iv. Click Continue on the Review page. 5. Modify the actions for any other rule as required and be sure to click the “Save” push button to save the rule set or all changes will be lost. Configure Out-of-Band Notifications for EM Agent Out-of-Band notifications act as a backup when there’s a complete EM outage or a repository database issue. This is configured on the agent of the OMS server and can be used to send emails or execute another script that would create a trouble ticket. It will send notifications about the following issues: • Repository Database down • All OMS are down • Repository side collection job that is broken or has an invalid schedule • Notification job that is broken or has an invalid schedule Recommendation: To setup Out-of-Band Notifications, refer to the MOS note “How To Setup Out Of Bound Email Notification In 12c” (Doc ID 1472854.1) Modify the Performance Test for the EM Console Service The EM Console Service has an out-of-box defined performance test that will be run to determine the status of this service. The test issues a request via an HTTP method to a specific URL. By default, the HTTP method used for this test is a GET but for performance reasons, should be changed to HEAD. The URL used for this request is set to point to a specific OMS server by default. If a multi-OMS system has been implemented and the OMS servers are behind a load balancer, then the URL in this section must be modified to point to the load balancer name instead of a specific server name. If this is not done and a portion of the infrastructure is down then the EM Console Service will show down as this test will fail. Recommendation: Modify the HTTP Method for the EM Console Service test and the URL if required following the detailed steps below. 1. To create an incident rule for monitoring the EM components, click on Targets / Services. From the list of services, click on the EM Console Service. 2. On the EM Console Service page, click on the Test Performance tab. 3. At the bottom of the page, click on the Web Transaction test called EM Console Service Test 4. Click on the Service Tests and Beacons breadcrumb near the top of the page. 5. Under the Service Tests section, make sure the EM Console Service Test is selected and click on the Edit push button. 6. Under the Transaction section, make sure the Access Logout page transaction is selected and click on the Edit push button 7) Under the Request section, change the HTTP Method from the default of GET to the recommended value of HEAD. The URL in this section must be modified to point to the load balancer name instead of a specific server name if multi-OMSes have been implemented. Check for Known Issues Job Purge Repository Job is Shown as Down This issue is caused after upgrading EM from 12c to 12cR2. On the Repository page under Setup ? Manage Cloud Control ? Repository, the job called “Job Purge” is shown as down and the Next Scheduled Run is blank. Also, repvfy reports that this is a missing DBMS_SCHEDULER job. Recommendation: In EM 12cR2, the apply_purge_policies have been moved from the MGMT_JOB_ENGINE package to the EM_JOB_PURGE package. To remove this error, execute the commands below: $ repvfy verify core -test 2 -fix To confirm that the issue resolved, execute $ repvfy verify core -test 2 It can also be verified by refreshing the Job Service page in EM and check the status of the job, it should now be Up. Configure the Listener Targets in EM with the Listener Password (where required) EM will report this error every time it is encountered in the listener log file. In a RAC environment, typically the grid home and rdbms homes are owned by different OS users. The listener always runs from the grid home. Only the listener process owner can query or change the listener properties. The listener uses a password to allow other OS users (ex. the agent user) to query the listener process for parameters. EM has a default listener target metric that will query these properties. If the agent is not permitted to do this, the TNS incident (TNS-1190) will be logged in the listener’s log file. This means that the listener targets in EM also need to have this password set. Not doing so will cause many TNS incidents (TNS-1190). Below is a sample of this error from the listener log file: Recommendation: Set a listener password and include it in the configuration of the listener targets in EM For steps on setting the listener passwords, see MOS notes: 260986.1 , 427422.1

Pathfinding library

I'm an amateur game developer and somewhat amateur Java developer as well. I'm trying to find a way to have path finding for my game(s). I've first Googled for some existing Java libraries that have various path-finding implementations, but I've failed to find any. It seems to me that the only way to get pathfinding code is to use it via a game engine (like Unity). But I'd just like to have a library that I can use and make the game loop and other stuff on my own. Failing to find such a library I've tried implementing some algorithms myself. I've managed to make a running A* in Java, but for fancier stuff like D* I find it hard to do it by hand. So then, my question is, are there any Java libraries that contain at least some basic pathfinding algorithms implementations?

Gnome-Screenshot error in Ubuntu GNOME 13.10

I recently installed Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 (it came with GNOME 3.8, but I replaced by GNOME 3.10) and after a few problems, the only one I couldn't solve was the screenshot problem. When I press the PrtSc key, nothing happens. No sound, no nothing. When I execute it via Terminal by writing "Gnome-Screenshot", it does work and saves in my Pictures folder. I have already tried to re-install the program, but still didn't work. I also tried to create a shortcut with this command line, but still nothing happend. I tried to replace the PrtSc key by another one, just for make sure the problem wasn't in the key, and it still failed. Can anyone help me?

How can I restore a corrupted Shotwell db?

While I was importing photos from a SD card in Shotwell, my laptop has crashed (shutdown because of over-heating). Now, I can no longer launch Shotwell: $ shotwell ** ERROR:x86_64-linux-gnu/db/VersionTable.c:104:version_table_construct: assertion failed: (res == SQLITE_OK) If I move the .db file ~/.shotwell/data/photo.db elsewhere so it is no longer present (but backed-up), shotwell will launch, but will rebuild its library, which will be empty. I can re-import the folders shotwell creates, but I lose nearly all meta-data (most importantly the "folders", or events, and their main picture) Is there a way to repair/rebuild/restore photo.db? How can I see what's inside? how bad it's damaged? Or is there another way to get back my events and imports?

Kernel Panic: Not booting after upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04

I upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04LTS. Upgrade went fine, even restarted couple of times. Then the next day while booting into Ubuntu, after the grub, it gave the error Kernel panic : not syncing vfs unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0). I then booted into live CD and tried the following commands, based on other posts on this forum: sudo fdisk -l As the 8 was on /dev/sda1, sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev Now I got the message: mount: mount point /mnt/dev does not exist Then tried sudo mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc Again got the message: mount point point /mnt/proc does not exist. then tried sudo chroot /mnt Got message: chroot: failed to run comman '/bin/bash': No such file or directory Now have no clue what to do next. Unable to boot into Ubuntu. Please help. Jitesh

Mouse and Keyboard Freeze

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 today and have had mouse problem since. Symptoms: At some arbitrary point in time (frequency: 2-3 times per hour), the mouse and keyboard stops working for ever(may be). I start System monitor, I found out network was shutdown just before mouse freeze. Some time my keyboard keep typing one key. For example:77777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777.....(it keep typing for 20 sec) I found out a script just solve the freeze problem:(I hit Powerbutton) -----------------/etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh------------------------ event=button[ /]power action=/usr/sbin/fix_mouse.sh -----------------/usr/sbin/fix_mouse.sh------------------------ rmmod psmouse modprobe psmouse Yesterday I install Ubuntu 10.04 FAILED also have mouse problem. When I switch back to Windows XP. The network card is down. It kept connecting and disconnecting 1 time per sec. Not able to connect huawei ec1561

I have a huawei ec1561 broadband data card, ISP-MTS India. I am not able to connect internet through it. while connecting it via network manager it says "You are registered with home network" and again "Modem network disconnected" . i think it is detected as a modem but not connecting properly. Any help please? I'm hitting this rock with my head more than a month... when I tried installing the driver that came with the device it finally says "Installing NDIS driver failed". Introducing sp_ssiscatalog (v1.0.0.0)

Regular readers of my blog may know that over the last year I have made available a suite of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports that provide visualisations of the data in the SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) 2012 Catalog. Those reports are available at http://ssisreportingpack.codeplex.com. As I have built these reports and used them myself on a real life project a couple of things have dawned on me: As soon as your SSIS Catalog gets a significant amount of data in it the performance of the reports degrades rapidly. This is hampered by the fact that there are limitations as to the SQL statements that I can embed within a SSRS report. SSIS professionals are data guys at heart and those types of people feel more comfortable in a query environment rather than having to go through the rigmarole of standing up a reporting server (well, I know I do anyway) Hence I have decided to take a different tack with the reporting pack. Taking my lead from Adam Machanic’s sp_whoisactive and Brent Ozar’s sp_blitz I have produced sp_ssiscatalog, a stored procedure that makes it easy to get at the crucial data in the SSIS Catalog. I will spend the rest of this blog explaining exactly what sp_ssiscatalog does and how to use it but if you would rather just download the bits yourself and start to play you can download v1.0.0.0 from DB v1.0.0.0. Usage Scenarios Most Recent Execution I find that the most frequent information that one needs to get from the SSIS Catalog is information pertaining to the most recent execution. Hence if you execute sp_ssiscatalog with no parameters, that is exactly what you will get. EXEC [dbo].[sp_ssiscatalog] This will return up to 5 resultsets: EXECUTION - Summary information about the execution including status, start time & end time EVENTS - All events that occurred during the execution OnError,OnTaskFailed - All events where event_name is either OnError or OnTaskFailed OnWarning - All events where event_name is OnWarning EXECUTABLE_STATS - Duration and execution result of every executable in the execution All 5 resultsets will be displayed if there is any data satisfying that resultset. In other words, if there are no (for example) OnWarning events then the OnWarning resultset will not be displayed. The display of these 5 resultsets can be toggled respectively by these 5 optional parameters (all of which are of type BIT): @exec_execution @exec_events @exec_errors @exec_warnings @exec_executable_stats Any Execution As just explained the default behaviour is to supply data for the most recent execution. If you wish to specify which execution the data should return data for simply supply the execution_id as a parameter: EXEC [dbo].[sp_ssiscatalog] 6 All Executions sp_ssiscatalog can also return information about all executions: EXEC [dbo].[sp_ssiscatalog] @operation_type='execs' The most recent execution will appear at the top. sp_ssiscatalog provides a number of parameters that enable you to filter the resultset: @execs_folder_name @execs_project_name @execs_package_name @execs_executed_as_name @execs_status_desc Some typical usages might be: //Return all failed executions EXEC [dbo].[sp_ssiscatalog] @operation_type='execs',@execs_status_desc='failed' //Return all executions for a specified folder EXEC [dbo].[sp_ssiscatalog] @operation_type='execs',@execs_folder_name='My folder' //Return all executions of a specified package in a specified project EXEC [dbo].[sp_ssiscatalog] @operation_type='execs',@execs_project_name='My project', @execs_package_name='Pkg.dtsx' Installing sp_ssicatalog Under the covers sp_ssiscatalog actually calls many other stored procedures and functions hence creating it on your server is not simply a case of running a CREATE PROCEDURE script. I maintain the code in an SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) database project which means that you have two ways of obtaining it. Download the source code You can download the latest (at the time of writing) source code from http://ssisreportingpack.codeplex.com/SourceControl/changeset/view/70192. Hit the download button to download all the source code in a zip file. The contents of that zip file will include an SSDT database project which you can open up in SSDT and publish just like any other SSDT database project. You can publish to a new database or any existing database, even [SSISDB] if you prefer. Download a dacpac Maintaining the code in an SSDT database project means that it can all get packaged up into a dacpac that you can then publish to your SQL Server. That dacpac is available from DB v1.0.0.0: Ordinarily a dacpac can be deployed to a SQL Server from SSMS using the Deploy Dacpac wizard however in this case there is a limitation. Due to sp_ssiscatalog referring to objects in the SSIS Catalog (which it has to do of course) the dacpac contains a SqlCmd variable to store the name of the database that underpins the SSIS Catalog; unfortunately the Deploy Dacpac wizard in SSMS has a rather gaping limitation in that it cannot deploy dacpacs containing SqlCmd variables. Hence, we can use the command-line tool, sqlpackage.exe, instead. Don’t worry if reverting to the command-line sounds a little daunting, I assure you it is not. Simply open a Visual Studio command-prompt and cd to the folder containing the downloaded dacpac: Type: "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DAC\bin\sqlpackage.exe" /action:Publish /TargetDatabaseName:SsisReportingPack /SourceFile:SSISReportingPack.dacpac /Variables:SSISDB=SSISDB /TargetServerName:(local) or the shortened form: "%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DAC\bin\sqlpackage.exe" /a:Publish /tdn:SsisReportingPack /sf:SSISReportingPack.dacpac /v:SSISDB=SSISDB /tsn:(local) remembering to set your server name appropriately (here mine is set to “(local)” ). If everything works successfully you will see this: And you’re done! You’ll have a new database called [SsisReportingPack] which contains sp_ssiscatalog: Good luck with sp_ssiscatalog. I have been using it extensively on my own projects recently and it has proved to be very useful indeed. Rest-assured however, I will be adding many new capabilities in the future. Apache Server SSL Problems

Hi There is this weird problem going on with putting ssl on the server I keep on getting this error in the terminal after I already created the .key and .crt files but it keeps on saying I placed the files in the conf.d directory and I already configured the thing so there is something that I did wrong there I also used openssl to create a .key and the .crt files thanks for the help if anyone can service apache2 reload Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/conf.d/www.domainname.crt Invalid command '-----BEGIN', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration Action 'conftest' failed. Why has C prevailed over Pascal?

My understanding is that in the 1980s and perhaps in the 1990s, too - Pascal and C were pretty much head-to-head as production languages. Is the ultimate demise of Pascal only due to Borland's neglection of Delphi? Or was there more of such bad luck; or perhaps something inherently wrong with Pascal (any hopes for its revival?). I hope it's not an open, unanswerable question. I'm interested in historical facts and observations one can back up, rather than likes and dislikes. I also failed to find a duplicate question, which actually surprised me somewhat.

Introduction Oracle Workflow Notification System can be extended to perform extra validation or processing via PLSQL procedures when the notification is being responded to. These PLSQL procedures are called post-notification functions since they are executed after a notification action such as Approve, Reject, Reassign or Request Information is performed. The standard signature for the post-notification function is procedure <procedure_name> (itemtype in varchar2, itemkey in varchar2, actid in varchar2, funcmode in varchar2, resultout in out nocopy varchar2); Modes The post-notification function provides the parameter 'funcmode' which will have the following values: 'RESPOND', 'VALIDATE, and 'RUN' for a notification is responded to (Approve, Reject, etc) 'FORWARD' for a notification being forwarded to another user 'TRANSFER' for a notification being transferred to another user 'QUESTION' for a request of more information from one user to another 'QUESTION' for a response to a request of more information 'TIMEOUT' for a timed-out notification 'CANCEL' when the notification is being re-executed in a loop. Context Variables Oracle Workflow provides different context information that corresponds to the current notification being acted upon to the post-notification function. WF_ENGINE.context_nid - The notification ID WF_ENGINE.context_new_role - The new role to which the action on the notification is directed WF_ENGINE.context_user_comment - Comments appended to the notification WF_ENGINE.context_user - The user who is responsible for taking the action that updated the notification's state WF_ENGINE.context_recipient_role - The role currently designated as the recipient of the notification. This value may be the same as the value of WF_ENGINE.context_user variable, or it may be a group role of which the context user is a member. WF_ENGINE.context_original_recipient - The role that has ownership of and responsibility for the notification. This value may differ from the value of the WF_ENGINE.context_recipient_role variable if the notification has previously been reassigned. Example Let us assume there is an EBS transaction that can only be approved by a certain people thus any attempt to transfer or delegate such notification should be allowed only to users SPIERSON or CBAKER. The way to implement this functionality would be as follows: Edit the corresponding workflow definition in Workflow Builder and open the notification. Ubuntu 12.04 GTK Problem

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and compiled and installed GTK 3.4 to go through some GTK developer tutorials. Installing this version of GTK has caused problems with Unity. All system dialogs and top bar now have a different (older) look, and when I try to launch Nautilus I get the following message: Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension Initializing nautilus-dropbox 1.4.0 Initializing nautilus-gdu extension nautilus: symbol lookup error: nautilus: undefined symbol: ubuntu_menu_proxy_get I have run make uninstall on the newer version of GTK and reinstalled just about every package I can think of, but I am still having the same problem. How can I repair the default Ubuntu GTK libraries? EDIT Also, I noticed that my desktop icons are gone (launcher works), and I can't interact with the desktop. I can't drag any shortcuts to it, etc.

I bought a new Logitech C310 webcam.i dont know how to install webcam on ubuntu.am trying to install this software through the terminal window. wine /media/LWS_2_0/Setup.exe but its showing as fixme:ole:TLB_ReadTypeLib Header type magic 0x00905a4d not supported. err:ole:TLB_ReadTypeLib Loading of typelib L"Z:\\media\\LWS_2_1\\MSetup.exe" failed with error 0 and its opening a window with data as "We have detected you have connected your webcam to a USB1.1 port,for the best performance and full feature set,we suggest using a USB2.0 port" I tried this all the USB ports available in my system.its showing the same error. Please tell me how to install this webcam on ubuntu 11.10. Thanx for reading.

Intel graphics Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS: does not detect second monitor

I have some problems to get the second monitor working on my Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS. If I click on the detect button it does not work. How do I mount this HDD?

I have a Windows HDD attached to an external docking bay on my Ubuntu System, but the HDD brings up an error message: Mounting exited with exit code 14:windows is hibernated, refused to mount. Failed to mount '/dev/sde2':Operation not permitted. The NTFS partition is hibernated. Please resume and shutdown windows properly or mount the volume read-only with the 'ro' mount option, or mount the volume read-write with the 'remove_hiberfile' mount option. For example type in command line: mount -t ntfs-3g-o remove_hiberfile/dev/sde2/media/FE46D60C46D5C615 I am at a loss for exactly how to remove the hiberfile, or even mount it as read-only or read-write. I tried directly copy and pasting that exact command into my terminal, but it said: mount:only root can do that I do not know what to do at this point. I do need to get the information off of this drive, but I do not have a computer to put it in. Does anyone know what I should do from here?
