  • File name containing more than 16 characters inside parentheses failing

    I am generating file names that contain a timestamp in the following format: "base_name (yyyy-mm-dd hhmmss).ext" This seems to cause a problem on Android. I am able to send the file as a GMail attachment. The following file name is working fine: /storage/sdcard0/myapp/transfer/Net worth over time _ Forecast (2012-11-19 11070).pdf I tried the following troubleshooting: It's not the overall length of the file name, as if I shorten the base name, the same behavior remains It's not GMail, uploading the file to Google Drive fails similarly 16 characters inside the parentheses work, but not 17 It's not the space character inside the parentheses that causes the issue, as I replaced it with a dash and it's the same problem. Anybody has any ideas on what's going on here?

    I am using mysqldump for a large database (several GB) and import the result from a pipe, please see commands below, does it do incremental pipe, or wait until the first one finishes then import? is this a good way of importing large db across servers? I know you can export gz it, then pscp it then import. Quick alternative are welcome mysqldump -u root -ppass -q mydatabase | mysql -u root -ppass --host=xxx.xx.xxx.xx --port=3306 -C mydatabase

  • Windows Home Server restore causes computer to be removed from the domain?

    I restored my Dell M4400 that is a company laptop, and now I get an error when I try to log on and am connected to our corporate network, which says that the domain controller could not be found or that the computer is not part of the domain. Everyone else can log on, so it seems my computer is no longer part of the domain, even though it thinks it is per the settings. One thing of note: my computer crashed on 1/14/10, but I restored from a backup that was made on 12/20/09. So I am not sure if that made a difference? Also, I tried running "gpupdate" to update my group policy, but that did not seem to help. Any ideas? Seems like a bit of a flaw in the backup system for computers that are part of a domain. I guess I wanted to hear from someone with more knowledge about how a computer is recognized as part of a domain to know if this should be expected when doing a restore or if I should file a trouble ticket.

    I am working on a project in which I have around 100000 addreses in major cities in India(it is a table in a database). I want to know if it is possible to obtain the distances to to nearest landmarks (Mall, Hospital, and Airport etc.). Ideally I want these distances to be mergeed to the parent table. We have Java and Php coders to get it done once we find out how to go about it. Any pointers will be of great help. Thank you.

  • SQL SERVER – Index Created on View not Used Often – Limitation of the View 12

    I have previously written on the subject SQL SERVER – The Limitations of the Views – Eleven and more…. This was indeed a very popular series and I had received lots of feedback on that topic. Today we are going to discuss something very interesting as well. During my recent performance tuning seminar in Hyderabad, I presented on the subject of Views. During the seminar, one of the attendees asked a question: We create a table and create a View on the top of it. On the same view, if we create Index, when querying View, will that index be used? The answer is NOT Always! (There is only one specific condition when it will be used. We will write about that later in the next post). Let us see the test case for the same.     Earlier, I wrote a quite note on SQL SERVER – Detect Virtual Log Files (VLF) in LDF. Because of this I got responses suggesting too many VLFs are bad for log file. This prompts to a simple question: “How many is ‘too many’ VLFs?” I suggest that you go and read an article written by Kimberly over here. I am sure that you are going to have a clear understanding of what a good number for your VLFs is from that article. If you have lots of VLFs, you can reduce them right away using the following method: (I am just attempting to write a working script over here.) USE AdventureWorks GO BACKUP LOG AdventureWorks TO DISK='d:\adtlog.bak' GO -- Get Logical file name of the log file sp_helpfile GO DBCC SHRINKFILE(AdventureWorks_Log,TRUNCATEONLY) GO ALTER DATABASE AdventureWorks MODIFY FILE (NAME = AdventureWorks_Log,SIZE = 1GB) GO DBCC LOGINFO GO Again, here I have assumed that your initial log size is 1 GB, but in reality you should select the number based on your own ideal size of the log file.   • SQL SERVER – FIX: ERROR Msg 5169, Level 16: FILEGROWTH cannot be greater than MAXSIZE for file

    I am writing this blog post right after I resolve this error for one of the system. Recently one of the my friend who is expert in infrastructure as well private cloud was working on SQL Server installation. Please note he is seriously expert in what he does but he has never worked SQL Server before and have absolutely no experience with its installation. He was modifying database file and keep on getting following error. As soon as he saw me he asked me where is the maxfile size setting so he can change. Let us quickly re-create the scenario he was facing. Error Message: Msg 5169, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 FILEGROWTH cannot be greater than MAXSIZE for file ‘NewDB’. Creating Scenario: CREATE DATABASE [NewDB] ON PRIMARY (NAME = N'NewDB', FILENAME = N'D:\NewDB.mdf' , SIZE = 4096KB, FILEGROWTH = 1024KB, MAXSIZE = 4096KB) LOG ON (NAME = N'NewDB_log', FILENAME = N'D:\NewDB_log.ldf', SIZE = 1024KB, FILEGROWTH = 10%) GO Now let us see what exact command was creating error for him. USE [master] GO ALTER DATABASE [NewDB] MODIFY FILE ( NAME = N'NewDB', FILEGROWTH = 1024MB ) GO Workaround / Fix / Solution: The reason for the error is very simple. He was trying to modify the filegrowth to much higher value than the maximum file size specified for the database. There are two way we can fix it. Method 1: Reduces the filegrowth to lower value than maxsize of file USE [master] GO ALTER DATABASE [NewDB] MODIFY FILE ( NAME = N'NewDB', FILEGROWTH = 1024KB ) GO Method 2: Increase maxsize of file so it is greater than new filegrowth USE [master] GO ALTER DATABASE [NewDB] MODIFY FILE ( NAME = N'NewDB', FILEGROWTH = 1024MB, MAXSIZE = 4096MB) GO I think this blog post will help everybody who is facing similar issues.   • Best solution for getting referral information in PHP

    I am currently redoing some link structuring on a website. In the past we have used specific php files on the last step to direct the user to the proper place. Example: www.mysite.com/action/go-to-blue.php or www.mysite.com/action/short/go-to-red.php www.mysite.com/action/tall/go-to-red.php We are now restructuring to eliminate the /short/ or /tall/ directory. What this means is now "go-to-blue.php" will be doing some extra processing to make sure it sends the visitor to the proper place. The static method of the past was quite effective, because, well, if they left from that page we knew we had it right. Now since we are 301 redirecting action/short/go-to-red.php to just action/go-to-red.php it is quite important on "go-to-red.php" that we realize a user may have been redirected from /short/ or /tall/. So right now I am using HTTP_REFERRER and of course in my testing that works fine, but after a lot of reading it is clear that this is not a solid solution, so I was starting to brainstorm on other ways to check and make sure we get the proper referral information. If we could check HTTP_REFERRER plus some other test, I would feel confident we have a pretty good system in place to send the visitor to the right place. Some questions/comments: Could I use a session variable or a cookie to accomplish this goal? If so, would that be maintained through the 301 redirect? I don't see why it wouldn't be.. Passing the url in the url is not an option in this case.

  • Move SQL Server transaction log to another disk

    When restoring a database backup, by default, SQL Server places the database files in the master database file directory.  In this example, that location is in L:\MSSQL10.CHTL\MSSQL\DATA as shown by the issuance of sp_helpfile   Hence, the restored files for the database CHTL_L2_DB are in the same directory     Per SQL Server best practices, the log file should be on its own disk drive so that the database and log file can operate in a sequential manner and perform optimally. The steps to move the log file is as follows: Record the location of the database files and the transaction log files Note the future destination of the transaction log file Get exclusive access to the database Detach from the database Move the log file to the new location Attach to the database Verify new location of transaction log Record the location of the database file To view the current location of the database files, use the system stored procedure, sp_helpfile 1: use chtl_l2_db 2: go 3:   4: sp_helpfile 5: go   Note the future destination of the transaction log file The future destination of the transaction log file will be located in K:\MSSQLLog   Get exclusive access to the database To get exclusive access to the database, alter the database access to single_user.  If users are still connected to the database, remove them by using with rollback immediate option.  Note:  If you had a pane connected to the database when the it is placed into single_user mode, then you will be presented with a reconnection dialog box. 1: alter database chtl_l2_db 2: set single_user with rollback immediate 3: go Detach from the database   Now detach from the database so that we can use windows explorer to move the transaction log file 1: use master 2: go 3:   4: sp_detach_db 'chtl_l2_db' 5: go   After copying the transaction log file re-attach to the database 1: use master 2: go 3:   4: sp_attach_db 'chtl_l2_db', 5: 'L:\MSSQL10.CHTL\MSSQL\DATA\CHTL_L2_DB.MDF', 6: 'K:\MSSQLLog\CHTL_L2_DB_4.LDF', 7: 'L:\MSSQL10.CHTL\MSSQL\DATA\CHTL_L2_DB_1.NDF', 8: 'L:\MSSQL10.CHTL\MSSQL\DATA\CHTL_L2_DB_2.NDF', 9: 'L:\MSSQL10.CHTL\MSSQL\DATA\CHTL_L2_DB_3.NDF' 10: GO

  • Why are these divs not aligned and space between?

    Why isnt everything aligned? No yellow should be visible and no orange should be visible except for the right side and bottom left where theres space for another image. Basically my images are pretty much aligned to the center (i have other pics not in this example which is easier to see). However in this case when i have 150px height image the 150 width seems start lower.   • Insane SmartGWT + GWT situation... Error on instantiating ListGridRecord?

    Hi all, I am asking this here in the hope that someone has maybe come across this situation too... I have posted this on the SmartGWT forum: I am having an issue when trying to instantiate a ListGridRecord object on my server side. I am using the ListGrid on the client side, I want to use GWT's RPC to pass back an array of ListGridRecord objects to populate the grid with. I know that SmartGWT is designed to link to a datasource but I want full control over when I populate the grid and this shouldn't be as much of a nightmare as it is to do. I have searched high and low and cannot find anyone complaining about the same thing. The exception however (listed below) has come up (in my search findings) as a possible memory error - where increasing the memory (-Xmx512m argument) has apparently solved the problem. It did not, however, sort out mine. If anyone can shed any light on this I would greatly appreciate it! Here are my details: Developing using Eclipse Galileo on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) and GWT 2.0.3, I built the initial GWT project using the webAppCreator bundled with the GWT 2.0.3 release and imported the project into Eclipse as described on the GWT Getting Started Page (as using the GWT Eclipse plugin caused even more nightmares when trying to connect to a database - this is apparently due to using the Google App Engine and turning it off as all the posts suggested only causes ClassNotFound exceptions).   • Send invitation to any user of google chats (is it possible?)

    Hi I try to realize simple code on perl which should just get/send messages from/to gtalk accounts. I use Net::XMPP::* modules. All works just fine for users, who are my friends (in my "buddy" list). But i can't send message to unknown user. I know, that for this case i must send an invitation first, but Net::XMPP::* don't provide this possibility. There is only one way to invite person - construct my own xml according to "XEP-0155 Stanza Session Negotiation" protocol. But this doesn't work correct. When i send xml to server, it returns error "service-unavailable".   • SQL SERVER – Challenge – Puzzle – Usage of FAST Hint

    I was recently working with various SQL Server Hints. After working for a day on various hints, I realize that for one hint, I am not able to come up with good example. The hint is FAST. Let us look at the definition of the FAST hint from the Book On-Line. FAST number_rows Specifies that the query is optimized for fast retrieval of the first number_rows. This is a nonnegative integer. After the first number_rows are returned, the query continues execution and produces its full result set. Now the question is in what condition this hint can be useful. I have tried so many different combination, I have found this hint does not make much performance difference, infect I did not notice any change in time taken to load the resultset. I noticed that this hint does not change number of the page read to return result. Now when there is difference in performance is expected because if you read the what FAST hint does is that it only returns first few results FAST – which does not mean there will be difference in performance. I also understand that this hint gives the guidance/suggestions/hint to query optimizer that there are only 100 rows are in expected resultset. This tricking the optimizer to think there are only 100 rows and which (may) lead to render different execution plan than the one which it would have taken in normal case (without hint). Again, not necessarily, this will happen always. Now if you read above discussion, you will find that basic understanding of the hint is very clear to me but I still feel that I am missing something. Here are my questions: 1) In what condition this hint can be useful? What is the case, when someone want to see first few rows early because my experience suggests that when first few rows are rendered remaining rows are rendered as well. 2) Is there any way application can retrieve the fast fetched rows from SQL Server? 3) Do you use this hint in your application? Why? When? and How? Here are few examples I have attempted during the my experiment and found there is no difference in execution plan except its estimated number of rows are different leading optimizer think that the cost is less but in reality that is not the case.     Developers often face situations when they find their column have duplicate records and they want to delete it. A good developer will never delete any data without observing it and making sure that what is being deleted is the absolutely fine to delete. Before deleting duplicate data, one should select it and see if the data is really duplicate. In this video we are demonstrating two scripts – 1) selects duplicate records 2) deletes duplicate records. We are assuming that the table has a unique incremental id. Additionally, we are assuming that in the case of the duplicate records we would like to keep the latest record. If there is really a business need to keep unique records, one should consider to create a unique index on the column. Unique index will prevent users entering duplicate data into the table from the beginning. This should be the best solution. However, deleting duplicate data is also a very valid request. If user realizes that they need to keep only unique records in the column and if they are willing to create unique constraint, the very first requirement of creating a unique constraint is to delete the duplicate records.
