• Incremental backups in Quickbooks 2005

  My church uses Quickbooks 2005. They have a backup to a 512 MB thumbdrive. They have been backing up about every week for the past 18 months. The filesize of the backups have grown from 14 MB to about 23 MB. I was planning on giving them a 1 or 2 GB thumb drive and calling it a day, but when I dumped this info into Excel and projected out the growth rate, I found that we'll hit 1 GB in July, and 10 GB in about another 18 months, and then 100 GB about 18 months after that. It looks to me like Quickbooks saves all the transactions with every backup. Is there a way to force incremental backups? If this is the way it is, that's fine, but I'd rather not keep buying another order of magnitude of storage space every 18 months. Can I safely delete the previous backups, and just keep the recent 2 or 3 months worth? Thanks.

• Apache disabled virtual host domains resolve an enabled virtual host

  I have three virtual hosts defined on apache on my Ubuntu server for three different domains. If I disable two of the virtual hosts (a2dissite) and try to resolve those two URL's in the browser, then the one remaining enabled site will resolve. How can I configure apache so that the domains for the disabled virtual hosts do not resolve? • Munin email notification

  I am trying to get munin to notify me via email. I have configured munin and it reports critical and warning values but no alerts are being sent neither is any script being called. Can you please help me out with this? • Are animated GIFs supported in Google Chrome?

  I have recently been testing a website and found animated gif images that seem to show fine in IE and Firefox but in Google Chrome they only show briefly and then dissapear! This happens if I view the image on the page or view the file directly. Are there any reported problems in displaying GIFs in Chrome, or is it just being fussy? There seemed to have been some problems in older versions of Chrome, but it's hard to believe something as simple as this wouldn't have been fixed by now. The version of Google Chrome I am using is: 4.1.249.1021 Not sure if this is relevant, but some info about the image: Width: 216 pixels Height: 36 pixels Horizontal resolution: 96dpi Vertical resolution: 96dpi Bit Depth: 32 Frame Count: 3 EDIT: Seems to be a problem relating to the latest beta version of Chrome, as it works fine in 4.0.249

• How to install compiler and binutils on FreeNAS?

  I'd like to run a backup tool, duplicity, that apparently requires a cc compiler and binutils. I'm able to locate and install the required BSD packages for python, gcc, and dependencies from ftp2.freebsd.org. However, I can't find binutils. How are binutils installed on a system like FreeNAS? I'm working with FreeNAS 0.70 (based on FreeBSD 7.2). I see several packages with binutils in the name, but it's not clear any of them are for my i386 platform. e.g. I see i386-rtems-binutils-2.19.1, but I can't find any info that suggests this is correct for my platform. Google results mention it's for realtime systems.

• Roundcube can't connect to PostgreSQL database

  I'm trying to install Roundcube on a CentOS 5.5 server, with a PostgreSQL 8.1.22 database. The first page of the installer script, that checks for the presence of php libraries and such, gives me green OKs across the board. I even went out of my way to install the optional ones. Page two generates me two configuration files (main.inc.php and db.inc.php) which I put into place. Page three is where things go wrong: Check DB config DSN (write): NOT OK(MDB2 Error: connect failed) Make sure that the configured database exists and that the user has write privileges DSN: pgsql://roundcube:password@localhost/roundcubemail The info you see there (user roundcube, password password, server localhost and database roundcubemail) is all correct. The database roundcubemail belongs to the user roundcube and it has write permissions. I have no clue why it can't connect to that database. I'm managing it with phpPgAdmin, which is running on the very same Apache, on the same server!

I ran the following command, lspci, in order to get info on the wireless card installed. 00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88w8335 [Libertas] 802.11b/g Wireless (rev 03) Does anyone know where I can get drivers for this card/chip? • Problems installing Linux to IDE connected compact flash card

  I have been trying to install Ubuntu on some hardware (Netcom NC-499 board that contains a Vortex86DX processor). I am trying to install to a compact flash card attached to the board via an IDE adaptor, the aim being that the board will boot up and simply treat the compact flash like a normal hard drive. The processor vendor claims support for Ubuntu 10.04 but I am having problems installing it onto the card. I have been trying using a USB CD-ROM drive and the standard .iso image from the ubuntu site (md5 checksum works out fine so no problem there) but I have had no success at all. I have been able to do this with Ubuntu 8.04 but with no other version (9.04 and 10.04 desktop and alternative discs all fail). My question is what other options are available to me to try and install this? I have googled myself apart trying to find out but other than a few sites describing USB based installs using flash memory sticks for very specific hardware, I have found no useful info at all. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

If another differencing image is created for a virtual disk that already has a differencing image, then it becomes a "grandchild" of the original parent. The first differencing image then becomes read-only as well, and write operations only go to the second-level differencing image. When reading from the virtual disk, VirtualBox needs to look into the second differencing image first, then into the first if the sector was not found, and then into the original image.* I don't get it...

• iTunes Title Bar is Equal to the Location of the Library file?

  I have never been able to get a clear answer on why the latest edition of iTunes does this. I have my entire iTunes library located in C:\itunes\ and the library data files inside C:\itunes\!library_info for backup purposes. However when version 9 of iTunes came out it went from having iTunes as the title, to !library_info. Anyway to get around this without moving my data files away? Annoying "feature" if that is what it is. Again Apple support and forums were of no help to me. Anyone have insight on this? • Anyone else being hit by traffic on TCP port 11370

  I've been watching my logs (Ubuntu 9.10 server) and dunno about any of you but I am getting a ton of traffic from sources like Russia, Romania, etc.. on port 11370 (my iptables are logndrop'ing it. But was just curious). Some googling revealed this info: http://www.keysigning.org/sks/ -which seems to use port 11370 & 11371 Could that be the service they are scanning for (i don't run it)? ICS shows this: https://isc.incidents.org/port.html?port=11370 Just curious what you guys think and if anyone has seen this before? If need be I can post my log on here, but its just a dropped log of TCP port 11370 from various IPs. Thought it was strange as thats the ONLY Port I seem to repeatedly be hit on (from logs). I'm running on a Linode (VPS) if that matters to annyone.

  How do you calculate the data flown between a computer and the gateway computer. I have a Linux router/gateway running IP Tables which routes internet traffic in a LAN. I have individual users with IP/MAC Address mapped who access Interet through the gateway computer. I would like to find out the traffic utilized by individual users. Is it possible for us to find out what kind of traffic was HTTP, SMTP, FTP etc. Is it also possible to pool the information on hourly basis, and get specific info so that I can store information in a database?   Extract data from specific range of cells(always the same cells) in multiple worksheet in multiple files. 1 file=1 day. I have 6 technicians each day of the week, Monday thru Friday. So, 5 files with 6 worksheets. I have entered specific info in specific cells of every work sheet. The range is constant(the same address in EVERY worksheet in every file.) So, I need a formula to extract and calculate the data in the given range and dump it into another spreadsheet. I can forward an example a file if it will help anyone to answer my question.   Hi All, I have just purchased windows 7 64bit. I entered the disk in the drive and it told me I couldn't upgrade as I am using XP so I have tried to boot from CD instead but it doesn't work. It seems to look at the disk for a few seconds and then ends up at a screen saying windows failed to start and then I hit enter and it loads windows XP again. Does anyone know what could cause this?   Hi all, How do I find all installed apache and PHP occurences on a Mac OS X system in bash and uninstall them? My motivation: I've managed to install multiple apache and PHP packages (I believe it's called packages in Unix terms, correct?) at some point, and I'ld like to start out fresh again, without completely re-installing Mac OS X again. Also, I'ld like to install suPHP along with apache this time, and I believe I need to compile apache with some additional stuff for that.   What should look like X Window System (X.Org) modeline to be put in xorg.conf, for high resolution (incuding recommended 1680x1050 @ 50Hz resolution) for 22" NEC LCD 22WV monitor? X.Org autodetect correctly only 800x600 and lower resolution SVGA modes, unfortunately. How can I generate proper "Modeline" line for xorg.conf? Is information included in NEC_Datasheet_LCD22WV-english.pdf enough (found on NEC LCD 22WV product info page)? What tools there are available to generate proper modeline for a LCD monitor for Linux? MS Windows (MS Windows XP Home) correctly detects and use 1680x1050 resolution; can I somehow get modeline information from MS Windows?

• linux need to discover local sata mirror before hba attached scsi

  (none of the machines mentioned are in production) Hello, I'm trying to install Centos 5.4, which wants to put the boot loader on either the boot sector of the boot drive (a local SATA mirror, recognized second as sdb) or the mba of a hba-attached SCSI array (recognized first as sda). There's a LILO install already on the mba of sdb, which keeps trying to boot first. If I zero out the MBA of sdb, would the boot loader at sdb1 be found and booted? I was thinking of that as a plan B, as I was mostly thinking of coaxing CentOS to find the local mirror first and bring that up as sda, but I haven't found info on how to do this anywhere.

• What could cause my LAN Pings be greater than 100ms?

  I have 2 servers (Both: Windows Server 2008, Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz, 32GB RAM, 8 x 15k SAS Drives). One of them is a DC / Web server / Exchange Server, the other is a SQL Server (2008). I have a 48 port Netgear GS748T Gigabit switch. When I ping from server to server, I get ping times <1ms, great, but when I ping from a PC, I get varying pings from the occasional <1ms to 500ms!! If I log into either server and look at Task Manager, CPU usage peaks at 20%, memory usage is 100%, but I am led to believe this is normal as Exchange will just use as much as you have, and release it when requested. Network usage peaks at 1%. I really don't understand how the ping can vary that much. I know I am giving very little info, but this is all I know, I apologise, but can anyone help? In response to question, I have pinged by both IP address and hostname, no difference in ping times.

• Ubuntu, No wireless networks found after correctly installed madwifi

  Hi, I just installed madwifi on my MSI laptop with an Atheros AR5001 wifi card & Lucid. As far as I can see and according to System - Administration - Hardware drivers the install was successful and the card + driver is up and running. However, I don't see any wireless network (my windows PC can see about 5 wireless networks). I tried it with the network manager applet as well as with wicd. If I try to connect to "Hidden Wireless Network" via nm-applet, it will start to connect for a while but is unable too (although I supply it with the correct WEP settings & key) So, I'm unable to use my wireless network. What am i doing wrong? • Can someone recommend a Compact Flash card to be used as a boot disk/fixed disk.

  I have an early Acer Aspire One netbook, and the flash drive is really slow at writing. I've taken it apart to add more RAM, but I've pretty much stopped using it. I've read about people replacing the SSD with a Compact Flash card and a CF to ZIF adapter but I've also read about some Compact Flash cards where the manufacturer has permanently disabled the boot flag to stop people doing this kind of mod. (Can't find the link any more though). (Although I have just found some info about CF cards that says "Most CompactFlash cards by default identify themselves as removable media instead of fixed disk" and that this is an issue for Windows. So my most specific question is: can someone recommend a compact flash card that does allow the boot flag to be set and to be set as Fixed Disk? Please say whether you've done it yourself, or just heard about it from someone else. Beyond that, is this generally a problem?

• Arch Linux Terminal (via ssh) + Dropbox but sync only 1 single selected folder

  Sorry for the weird title... I'm (still) quite new to linux and are doing shh commands to an Arch Linux device that has not screen output options. So everything has to be done in the terminal (not my super element). I use the linux device to play around with python (which is quite fun). Now I would like sync my script folder with dropbox. Since I don't have enought space to sync all my dropbox files to the device, I would like to know how I can set it up in a way that it only syncs with the folder I choose. At the time being I have not installed dropbox because I'm afraid that it will immediately begin to sync all my dropbox folders onto my linux device. BONUS INFO: I already have created a folder in my dropbox that I that contains some py scripts I would like to have synced with my linux device.

• Proffesional video editor that can handle FLV?

  I tried Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and was not able to open my file (unsupported format). Media player can open it thanks to ffdshow (tryouts IIRC). Premiere doesnt seem to want to use ffdshow. I tried renaming it to AVI and hoped Premiere would open it via ffdshow but it didnt and i checked and disabled the dont use ffdshow option in ffdshow video decoder option. What is a good proffesional video editor that can handle FLV? All ffmpeg based editors died on it and virtualdub got close but had a bad framerate. Probably bc it didnt know it was a streaming vid and the start is 26mins of 31min video. • Apache 2 Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible

  While the title of this question matches an already asked question, in my case I already set Options +FollowSymLinks. The setup is the following: my hosting setup includes htdocs/ directory that is the default document root for HTTP websites and htdocs-secure that is for HTTPS. They are meant for sites that need a different HTTPS version. In case both share the same files I create a link from htdocs-secure to htdocs by ln -s htdocs htdocs-secure but here comes the problem! Log still says Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /path/to/htdocs-secure Vhost fragment Header always set Strict-Transport-Security "max-age=500" DocumentRoot /path/to/htdocs-secure <Directory "/path/to/htdocs-secure"> allow from all Options +FollowSymLinks </Directory> I think it's a correct setup. The HTTP version of the site is accessible, so it doesn't look like a permission problem. How to fix this? [Add] other info: I use MPM-itk and I set AssignUserId to the owner/group of both the directories
