• jQuery aspx error function always called, even with apparently valid return data

  I am making an ajax call using jQuery (jquery-1.5.2.min.js). The server receives the call. fiddler shows the response text coming back apparently correct. But back in javascript my error: function is called instead of my success: function, and the data of the parameters to the error function don't give much clue as to the problem. But as I say, I see both the query go out and the response come back in Fiddler. Here is what Fiddler shows as the raw view of the response: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2011 17:49:25 GMT Content-Length: 8 Content-Type: application/text Server: CherryPy/3.2.0 { x: 0 } Looks good, but then back in javascript, I get into the error: function, with the following values for the parameters (as shown in firebug): errorThrown = "" jqXHR = Object { readyState=0, status=0, statusText="error"} statusText = "error" I don't know where that word "error" is coming from. That string does not appear anywhere in my cherrypy server code. Note that even though I'm returning a JSON string I've set the send and receive types to "text" for now, just to simplify in order to isolate the problem. Any ideas why I'm getting this "error" reply, even when errorThrown is empty? Could it be that I haven't properly "initialized" either jQuery or jQuery.ajax?

• Javascript hide/show classes with checkbox

  I am just learning javascript, so please bear with me! I want to be able to use checkboxes to choose to hide/show div classes (to basically filter the amount of info being shown). It is done in this... but I'm try to figure out something much simpler (since I don't need to dynamically generate the checkbox options.)   Hello, I'm testing some concepts in ASP.NET MVC multisteps (Style Wizards) with a small application which allow me to records organizations in a database. To make things easier, I've a class OrganizationFormModelView that contains an object of class Organization and a property called ParentOrgList of SelectList type. The only purpose of the selectList property is to be used by a DropDownList. I've also serialize OrganizationFormModelView to get the multisteps Wizard effect. In my first view (or first step), I use a dropdownlist helper to assign a value to one of the the Organization's property called ParentOrganization, which draws data from the ParentOrgList. ... <% = Html.DropDownList("Organization.ParentOrganization", Model.ParentOrgList)%> ... The first time the page loads, I'm able to make a choice. And, my choice is reflected in my object Model all along the wizard' steps(see Visual studio in debugging mode). But, when any time I'm redirected back to the first view (first step), I get the following error message: "The ViewData item with the key 'Organization.ParentOrganization' is of type 'System.String' but needs to be of type 'IEnumerable'."   hi, I'm trying to send an email using PHP mail() in a wordpress site.   This is an extension of this questionand probably might even be a duplicate of some other question(If so, please forgive me). I see from MSDN that generics are usually used with collections The most common use for generic classes is with collections like linked lists, hash tables, stacks, queues, trees and so on where operations such as adding and removing items from the collection are performed in much the same way regardless of the type of data being stored. The examples I have seen also validate the above statement. Can someone give a valid use of generics in a real-life scenario which does not involve any collections ? Pedantically, I was thinking about making an example which does not involve collections public class Animal<T> { public void Speak() { Console.WriteLine("I am an Animal and my type is " + typeof(T).ToString()); } public void Eat() { //Eat food } } public class Dog { public void WhoAmI() { Console.WriteLine(this.GetType().ToString()); } } and "An Animal of type Dog" will be Animal<Dog> magic = new Animal<Dog>(); It is entirely possible to have Dog getting inherited from Animal (Assuming a non-generic version of Animal)Dog:Animal Therefore Dog is an Animal Another example I was thinking was a BankAccount. It can be BankAccount<Checking>,BankAccount<Savings>. This can very well be Checking:BankAccount and Savings:BankAccount. Are there any best practices to determine if we should go with generics or with inheritance ?

• Storing high precision latitude/longitude numbers in iOS Core Data

  I'm trying to store Latitude/Longitudes in core data. These end up being anywhere from 6-20 digit precision. And for whatever reason, i had them as floats in Core Data, its rounding them and not giving me the exact values back. I tried "decimal" type, with no luck either. Are NSStrings my only other option? • In .NET, What Is Fastest Way to Initialize Multi-Dimensional Array to Non-Default Value

  How do I initialize a multi-dimensional array of a primitive type as fast as possible? I am stuck with using multi-dimensional arrays. My problem is performance. The following routine initializes a 100x100 array in approx. 500 ticks. Removing the int.MaxValue initialization results in approx. 180 ticks just for the looping. Approximately 100 ticks to create the array without looping and without initializing to int.MaxValue. Routines similiar to this are called a few tens-of-thousands to several million times. I am open to suggestions on how to optimize this non-default initialization of an array. One idea I had is to use a smaller primitive type when available. For instance, using byte instead of int, saves 100 ticks. I would be happy with this, but I am hoping that I don't have to change the primitive data type. public int[,] CreateArray(Size size) { int[,] array = new int[size.Width, size.Height]; for (int x = 0; x < size.Width; x++) { for (int y = 0; y < size.Height; y++) { array[x, y] = int.MaxValue; } } return array; }

• Calling jquery function from ascx not working

  Hi Guys, I'm having a problem with the following situation. I have an ascx which contains a submit button for a search criteria and I am trying to call a validation function in a js file I've used throughout the site (this is the first time I'm using it in an ascx).   I realize something like this has been asked, but this may be a little different Below is my Event object: Event : IEvent public int Id public string Title public List<EventContact> Contacts And EventContact: EventContact public int Id public string Name So, an Event has a list of EventContact' objects. Now, Event also implements IEvent - hence the custom model binder. I useIEventinstead of Event, so when the default model binder tries to do its thing, it lets me know it can't create anIEvent'. I have my view with populated with the contact info: <input type="text" name="contact[0].Name" value="DB Value"/> <input type="text" name="contact[1].Name" value="DB Value"/> <input type="text" name="contact[2].Name" value="DB Value"/> <!-- Event fields, etc --> So, in my custom model binder I am able to see all the value - sweet! The only thing is, I'm really not sure how to get all the contact fields and create a list of contacts from them, along with binding all the Event fields. Any and all help is appreciated!

• Configuring Displays for Different Mobile Devices

  Does anyone know a way to have specific CSS style sheets based on the type of Mobile Device? I have been researching it a few days now and haven't found anything except this snippet of code for iPhones. <link media="only screen and (max-device-width: 480px)" href="iPhone.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> This works great for iPhones, but on all other mobile devices (android, blackberry, Nokia), it's still displaying the same as my site. I tried: <link media="handheld" href="iPhone.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> but that didn't seem to have any effect on the other mobile devices. So I'm not sure how to reach the blackberry's/androids/nokia's without effect the code of my actual site. I'm building my site using the PHP framework CodeIgniter and I looked into this code which is suppose to be able to tell if it is being looked at through a mobile device or browser. if ($this->agent->is_browser()) { $agent = $this->agent->browser().' • Javascript API not working for Chrome or Safari on JW Player 5.9

  I am working on a custom interface for the JW Player which displays the current track title and has play/pause, next track, previous track and volume toggle buttons. It works for IE8/9 and FF but fails for Chrome and Safari. • jQuery loading issues within wordpress

  I am having a couple problems trying to manually insert some jQuery features into a wordpress theme. I have a lightbox wordpress plugin that is jQuery based that is working fine. So if I manually load the jQuery script into wordpress the functions seem to work but instead of say a slide being hidden it is revealed when it should still be hidden. Or a pop up that should work is already being shown instead of hidden. • Having an issue with org.hibernate.SessionException: Session is closed! in Hibernate

  I've done quite a bit a research on this with no luck, but all the answers have a tendency to point toward the session context settings in the config file. What is odd is that I get a session connection the very first time I hit the page (and therefore, a successful result set), but then when I reload I get the following exception: org.hibernate.SessionException: Session is closed! • Should I remove all inheritance from my model in order to work with ria services?

  I've posted some questions on this before, but it's different. So consider a small portion of our model: Person Customer Employee Spouse Person is the base class which has 3 classes that inherit from it. These 4 are very central in our design and link to many other entities. I could solve all the problems I'm experiencing with ria-services by removing the inheritance but that would really increase the complexety of the model. The first problem I experienced was that I couldn't query for Customers, Employees or Spouses, but someone gave me a solution, which was to add something like this to the DomainService: public IQueryable<Employee> GetEmployees() { return this.ObjectContext.People.OfType<Employee>(); } public IQueryable<Customer> GetCustomers() { return this.ObjectContext.People.OfType<Customer>(); } public IQueryable<Spouse> GetSpouses() { return this.ObjectContext.People.OfType<Spouse>(); } Next I tried something that seemed very normal to me: var employee = new Employee() { //.... left out to reduce the length of this question }; var spouse = new Spouse() { //.... left out to reduce the length of this questions }; employee.Spouse = spouse; context.People.Add(spouse); context.People.Add(employee); context.SubmitChanges(); Then I get the following exception: Cannot retrieve an entity set for the derived entity type 'Spouse'. Use EntityContainer.GetEntitySet(Type) to get the entity set for the base entity type 'Person'. Even when the spouse is already in the database, and I retreive it first I get similar exceptions. Also note that for some reason in some places "Persons" is used instead of "People"... So how do I solve this problem, what am I doing wrong and will I keep running into walls when using ria services with inheritance? I found some references on the web, all saying it works and then some DomainService code in which they suposedly changed something but no details... I'm using VS2010 RC1 + Silveright 4

• Post method in Servlet is not being called again after being executed once

  I am implementing a database based web application using servlets. Now, when I input a parameter using a form in the jsp page, it redirects it to a servlet which subsequently adds the value to the database (the servlet creates a new table if the table doesn't already exist). The creation of the table and the addition of value works fine if the table doesn't already exists. Once it is created however and the parameter is inputted again in the form, the submit button no longer redirects it to the servlet. Nor is the value added to the database. Kindly advise me as to where I am going wrong. • h:commandButton action not working inside a h:datatable.

  I'm stuck with this piece of jsf code that I don't understand why it's working when used outside a datatable and doesn't inside a datatable... <h:dataTable id="myTable" rendered="true" value="#{bean.selectedItemsList}" var="items"> <h:column> <h:commandButton action="#{bean.removeItemFromList}" image="/resources/images/deleterow.gif"> <f:actionListener binding="#{bean.actionListenerImpl}" type="com.mycorp.ActionListenerImpl"/> </h:commandButton> </h:column> <h:column> <h:outputText value="#{items}" /> </h:column> </h:dataTable> I read around the net to put value="#{items}" inside the action listener so the action can get the items in the row like this: <f:actionListener value="#{items}" binding="#{bean.actionListenerImpl}" type="com.mycorp.ActionListenerImpl"/> But it's doesn't work either. Bu if I do the action outside the data table everything work fine. <h:commandButton action="#{bean.removeItemFromList}" image="/resources/images/deleterow.gif"> <f:actionListener binding="#{bean.actionListenerImpl}" type="com.mycorp.ActionListenerImpl"/> </h:commandButton> Side note I also tried a4j:commandButton and didn't so I guess my problem is probably the actionlistener or how the bean handling it.
