• Is it valid to have more than one question mark in a URL?

  I came across the following URL today: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/inmarin/detail??blogid=122&entry_id=64497 Notice the doubled question mark at the beginning of the query string: ??blogid=122&entry_id=64497 My browser didn't seem to have any trouble with it, and running a quick bookmarklet: javascript:alert(document.location.search); just gave me the query string shown above. Is this a valid URL? The reason I'm being so pedantic (assuming that I am) is because I need to parse URLs like this for query parameters, and supporting doubled question marks would require some changes to my code. Obviously if they're in the wild, I'll need to support them; I'm mainly curious if it's my fault for not adhering to URL standards exactly, or if it's in fact a non-standard URL.

  Hello, I'd like a post request to be sent once a certain text input field is changed, using javascript. • Editing Subversion post-commit script to enable automated Hudson builds

  Hey guys, I'm not so good with Linux, but I need to modify the post-commit file of my Subversion repository to get Hudson to build automatically on commits. I know the address of my Hudson server, but the /subversion part has me baffled, because on my system that doesn't refer to anything. My Subversion repository belongs somewhere else on the server, not inside Hudson. Can anyone tell me what I'm supposed to put as the URL (an example would help greatly)?

• jQuery - want to get input value for submit but it gets one and repeats

  I'm trying to replace all submit buttons with a span so cufon will work. The input still needs to be there so have done some css to hide it and overlay to span on top. My issue is getting the value from the input tag is proving quite diffcult. The code below gets the first input value (being 'search' from the search box at the top of the page, and then puts that value into all the spans, even for buttons that have different values (eg: send). This is a .NET page so the whole page is wrapped in one form tag. • [Simple] Beginner AJAX script not working, stuck on opening XMLHttpRequest

  Hopefully, this question isn't too juvenile to ask - but here goes: I'm trying to learn AJAX, and I'm stuck on a simple content-fetch. Here is my code: request = getHTTPObject(); function useHttpResponse() { if (request.readyState == 4) { document.getElementById("p").innerHTML = request.responseText; } } function update_p() { request.open("GET",content.html,true); request.onreadystatechange = useHttpResponse; } getHTTPObject is correctly defined, and returns a proper XMLHttpObject. As you probably guessed from the excerpt, the element I am trying to update is id'd "p". It calls the script correctly when a button is clicked, no problem there. The script seems to stop at line 8, at request.open. There's no error, and the script silently ignores anything afterward. I don't think I've missed anything, but of course, I probably did. Where did I go wrong? Thanks!

  I'm starting to look into Google's Picasa API for photo data, which provides you with a big XML file with info about albums and photos. • Documenting a policy based design

  I'm re-working some prototype code into a policy based design in C++, and I'm wondering what the best practice is for documenting the design. My current plan is to document: Policy hierarchy Overview of each policy Description of each type/value/function in each policy I was thinking of putting this into a doxygen module, but this looks like it will be a bit awkward since formatting will have to be done by hand without code to base the doc on (that is, documenting the policies rather than the implementation of the policies). So my questions are: Are there other aspects of the design that should be documented? Are there any tricks to doing this efficiently in doxygen? Is there a tool other than doxygen thats better suited to this? What are some examples of well documented policy based design? This is my first serious attempt at policy based design. I think I have a working grasp of the principles, but whatever naivety I expose in this question is fair game for an answer too.

  Hi - I'm using DataTables to dress up a table I'm using to display XML results based on an XSL transformation. I have everything working from a technical sense (paging, sorting, filtering), but I'm trying to figure out to use a ThemeRoller theme to make it look like they have on their website. So far, I have added the following file to my project with its reference: <link type="text/css" href="css/custom-theme/jquery-ui-1.8.7.custom.css" rel="stylesheet"/> and enabled ThemeRoller themes using the following as per the DataTables website: $(document).ready(function() { $('#mainTable').dataTable( { "bJQueryUI": true, "sPaginationType": "two_button" }); }); The table gets styled, but it doesn't look right with the header rows being too wide and things being on multiple lines that should be on one line. • Facebook Iframe App in Safari links to home page. Works OK in other Browsers.

  I have a facebook iframe that has several php files in it. In all tested browsers (IE,FFOX,Chrome) the links on the header work fine and go to the php files inside the iframe. When I tried this on Safari the links are reloading the whole app inside the iframe. Is like a recursive call because Its not like im having the home page reloaded inside the iframe but the whole facebook page WITH the iframe.. reloaded inside my iframe. The links are called using javascript with document.location.href="myPage.php"; Tryed placing target "_self" inside the link but this turned out weird : the iframe page was placed on top of everything, as if I had specified "_parent" on the target. Any help?

  vim comes with a nice built-in interactive tutorial. You can access this tutorial by just running: $ vimtutor It is very easy to use because it creates working cases for basic commands. Is there a more advanced tutorial? Has any one though to build one to help uses take their VIM skills to the next level. Most tutorial and cheat-sheet sites out there for vim only show commands but not necessarily specific uses and examples. Is there an advance tutorial out there? Is this the type of project that could be an open source document that everyone can add examples to? Like a Vim Interactive Wiki or similar to the RegEx sites that have the built in regex testers.

• Safari javascript cookie issue

  I've hit a bit of a weird issue in Safari in regards to setting a js cookie. The cookie itself is just a rgb colour value, which gets set using .click(), and is working fine in Chrome and Firefox, yet in Safari the value of the cookie is incomplete, showing up as rgb(193 instead of rgb(193, 184, 76) as the other browsers do. • Finding an HTTP proxy that will intercept static resource requests

  Background I develop a web application that lives on an embedded device. In order to make dev times sane, frontend development is done using apache serving static documents, with PHP proxying out to the embedded device for specifically configured dynamic resources. This requires that we keep various server-simulation scripts hanging around in source control, and it requires updating those scripts whenever we add a new dynamic resource. Problem I'd like to invert the logic: if the requested document is available in the static documents directory, serve it; otherwise, proxy the request to the embedded device. Optimally, I want a software package that will do this for me (for Windows or buildable on cygwin). I can deal with forcing apache to do it with PHP, but I'm unsure how to configure it to make it happen. I've looked at squid and privoxy, but neither of them seem to do what I want. Any ideas? I'd rather not have to roll my own.

• Can I do transactions and locks in CouchDB?

  I need to do transactions (begin, commit or rollback), locks (select for update). How can I do it in a document model db? Edit: The case is this: I want to run an auctions site. And I think how to direct purchase as well. In a direct purchase I have to decrement the quantity field in the item record, but only if the quantity is greater than zero. That is why I need locks and transactions. I don't know how to address that without locks and/or transactions. Can I solve this with CouchDB?

• How can I serialize the values of checked checkboxes in an iFrame into a hidden form field on clicki

I have a button in the parent document that says "Delete selected", and I'd like to be able to click this button and populate a hidden field in my parent page with the values of the selected checkboxes in the child iframe. My checkboxes look like this: <input id="Checkbox1" type="checkbox" value="47" title="Select this row" name="selectItem"/> I have an instance of jquery on my parent page so I can make use of jquery selectors, I just have no clue as to the syntax needed to do this. • Reload external javascript after asynchronous postback via UpdatePanel

  I have an external javascript on my page, e.g. something like: <script src="http://foo.com/script.js" type="text/javascript"></script> and an UpdatePanel somewhere. The script writes some content, and does this from within an anonymous javascript function in the js file. I.e., there is something like this in the script: (function(){document.write('content');})(); Whenever the UpdatePanel is updated through asynchronous postback, everything the script did (or any javascript on my page, for that matter) is made undone. For normal javascript, I would just use: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest(myFunction) to redo all that, but since the function in the script source file is anonymous and called upon definition, I'm SOL! Any ideas? Note: the external js source is from another domain and its content is out of my control.
