• Large ResultSet on postgresql query

  I'm running a query against a table in a postgresql database. The database is on a remote machine. The table has around 30 sub-tables using postgresql partitioning capability. The query will return a large result set, something around 1.8 million rows. In my code I use spring jdbc support, method JdbcTemplate.query, but my RowCallbackHandler is not being called. My best guess is that the postgresql jdbc driver (I use version 8.3-603.jdbc4) is accumulating the result in memory before calling my code. I thought the fetchSize configuration could control this, but I tried it and nothing changes. I did this as postgresql manual recomended. This query worked fine when I used Oracle XE. But I'm trying to migrate to postgresql because of the partitioning feature, which is not available in Oracle XE. • binding to arraycollection does not work

  Hi, I am using flex SDK 3.5. I have model.as and in it i have an ArrayCollection (name it arr_mod) which is Bindable. From my mxml i link to this arr_mod in two ways: 1) in DataGrid i set dataprovider={arr_mode} ... 2) in Button i add new item to the arr_mod this way: 3) in textBox i want to add mx:TextBox text="{mySpecialCounterFunc(arr_mod)}" note that in the Script of mxml arr_mod is Bindable as well as in the class definition in model.as The problem is, that when clicking on button, mySpecialCounterFunc is not called! it should be called, since i use {} and this should listen to changes in arr_mod (a change that was made in the button should cause a new item to be added.. and than the listener to respond). While The DataGrid is updated correctly! Why??

  Hello, I am adding a text box using javascript: This is what is generated: <dd id="text3-element" style="width: 350px;"> <input type="text" size="50" id="text3" name="text3" onblur="return getFieldValue(this.id);" value=""> </dd> This is what is present in the getFieldValue function: function getFieldValue(id){ var elem = document.getElementById(id); alert(elem.value); return false; } I'm trying to get the value of the field added using javascript when the value of the filed changes. However, I keep getting the value as 'undefined', in spite of entering text into the newly added text box. This does not happen if the form already has a text box to begin with - i.e., if a text box is not being added via a js function. Anything missing / look wrong here? Thanks!

• How can I tell NetBeans to use the latest available version of a JAR for a library?

  I have a Netbeans project with a library defined which includes several JARs. These JARs are versioned like lib\blah\com.blah.wibble.jar_0.6.1.201004161543 . These are nightly builds from another project so that version changes often. I know I can point NetBeans at the specific JARs with the version name, but this means that every time I get a new version I have to update the NetBeans library. I can also strip the version name from the JARs, but this makes it hard to track down bugs. "What version of the blah JARs?" is usually the second thing we ask when we find a bug. Is it possible to tell Netbeans to use included com.blah.wibble.jar_[??????] where ???? is some sort of automatic pointer to use the latest available version?

  So, I am working on teaching myself Canvas (HTML5) and have most of a simple game engine coded up. It is a 2d representation of a space scene (planets, stars, celestial bodies, etc). My default "Sprite" class has a frame listener like such: "baseClass" contains a function that allows inheritance and applies "a" to "this.a".   I am writing a project where i need to implment a stripped down version of an ORM solution in c++. I am struck in implmenting 1-n relationships for the same. For instance, if following are the classes: class A { } class B { std::list _a_list; } I have provided load/save menthods for loading/saving to the db. Now, if i take the case of B : Say , for the following workflow : 1 entry from _a_list is removed 1 entry from _a_list is modified 1 entry is added to _a_list Now, i need to update the db using something like "b.save()". So, what would be the best way to save the changes,i.e, identify the additions, deletions and updations to _a_list.

• WPF/.NET data access models - resource recommendations

  We're in the early design/prep phases of transferring/updating a rather large "legacy" 3 tier client-server app to a new version. We’re looking at doing WPF over Winforms as it appears to be the direction Microsoft is pushing development of the future and we’d like the maximize the life cycle/span of the apps. That said during the rewrite we’d like to make as many changes to our data access/presentation model to improve performance as much as possible up front as many. I’ve been doing some research along that vein but the vast majority of the resources I've found that discuss WPF focus only simple data tracking apps or focus on the very basics UI design/controls. The few items that even discuss data presentation are fairly elementary in depth. Are there any books/articles/recommended reading/other resources recommended for development related to large enterprise level business apps? Any “gotchas” that should/could be avoided? General advice to minimize the time underwater

• Import text file crunching library for Java/Groovy ?

  In a lot of real life implementations of applications we face the requirement to import some kind of (text) files. Usually we would implement some (hardcoded?) logic to validate the file (eg. proper header, proper number of delimiters, proper date/time value,etc.). Eventually also need to check for the existence of related data in a table (eg. value of field 1 in text file must have an entry in some basic data table). While XML solves this (to some extend) with XSD and DTD, we end up hacking this again and again for proprietary text file formats. Is there any library or framework that allows the creation of templates similar to the xsd approach ? This would make it way more flexible to react on file format changes or implement new formats. • Program seems to get stuck ?

  I have a Java program, I did some change and the strange thing is no matter what I do now, it will output the same result before my change, I looked into my system (Windows Vista), and clicked on "Generate a system health report", the result says : Symptom : A service is reported as having an unexpected error code Cause : One or more services has failed. The service did not stop gracefully, suggesting the service may have crashed or one of its components stopped in an unsupported way. Details : Service exited with code not equal to 0 or 1077 Resolution : Restart the service It doesn't say which service, and I defragmented my drives a few times, it still gave me the same report. I also checked my memory, it says no problem with ram. Everything else is ok, I re-started the windows a few times, got more free space on my C: drive, yet the Java program is still not responding to my new changes, unless I intentionally make a mistake, it gives me compile error, but if it can compile successfully, it still gives me the results before the change. What can I do to fix this ? Frank

  hellow all i am using svn for version control for an iphone application . i have created it from xcode repositories by giving url ,user name and password its authenticated .After that i have created a directory from there itself and have imported my project there. Then i have checked out to the local directory and have updated something in it. Click on commit changes. It done. After that i came to terminal to commit the project first time from terminal .There i have removed the build of the project then gave a command like "svn update". here i am getting error like svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/svn/pacman/GameDevelopment/Game'and 403 Forbidden error whts going wrong here? could any one help me in this ? • Refreshing metadata on user functions t-SQL

  I am doing some T-SQL programming and I have some Views defines on my database. The data model is still changing these days and I have some table functions defined. Sometimes i deliberately use select * from MYVIEW in such a table function to return all columns. If the view changes (or table) the function crashes and I need to recompile it. I know it is in general good thing so that it prevents from hell lotta errors but still... Is there a way to write such functions so the dont' blow up in my face everytime I change something on the underlying table? Or maybe I am doing something completely wrong... Thanks for help

• Selenium fails to find component after dom update (reRender)

  I'm testing a richfaces application with selenium. It works fine, unless I use reRender. (for those unfamiliar with richfaces - whenever an ajax request finished, parts of the DOM are updated/chagned/removed). So, after a reRender selenium (the IDE at least) fails to locate the elements which were within the reRendered area. Both FireBug and WebDeveloper locate the elements, and on "view source" the elements are there. So, is there a way to tell selenium to update its DOM "knowledge" with the latest changes? Firefox 3.5.6, latest version of Selenium IDE.

I have a website in Joomla, and I have some .css (layout.css, position.css, .... ) and I have at home of the website, 3 buttons, I tested in localhost, and when I see the home well, I upload everything to production, to my server. Now, I just edited some styles of these buttons, for example, the width, in order to see them better...but I'm having a problem with the cache, because sometimes I see them with new changes, but other times I see with the old styles.....I realized that this happens especially with chrome Could you help me, please? • How can a hacker put a file on my server root (apache, php, 1and1)

  Hi there, I have a site hosted on 1and1 and a couple of weeks ago I noticed a hacker had put a .php file on the server that when viewed in a browser exposed my DB schema, DB connection strings, FTP account (for file uploads using a form), etc, etc. Naturally I panicked and I wiped the server and reuploaded my files. Fortunatley I encrypt passwords using MD5 and I don't store things like credit card details, etc, etc. Now I checked my files and with all user input I use a clean function (htmlentities, sql_real_escape_string, etc, etc) that strips the input of any XSS or SQL injection. I have also made sure that the session key gets re-engineered when a user status changes (like they log into their account) to prevent session hijacking, my folder permissions are set to 755 and file permission are 644. Has anyone got any idea how this could have happened? Or if I'm missing something

• Automatically pulling on remote server with Git push?

  Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a GitHub repository, a portion of which I'd like to make web viewable. Right now I've cloned the repository on my own server and it works well, but in order to keep it up to date, I have to manually login and pull the latest changes. I'm not sure if this is the best idea (or the best approach), but I'd like the remote server to automatically pull whenever someone pushes to repository. GitHub makes it easy enough to run a script when someone pushes, but I'm not sure how to pull once someone does that. I was using PHP for simplicity, but just doing something like git pull naturally doesn't work because of permissions. Is this a bad idea or is there another way of achieving what I want to do? This seems like a common set up, but I wasn't sure. Thanks.

• Protect files from svn commit.

  Hey, imagine a plain webapp with a log4j.properties which is under version control. I can't add it to svn:ignore because its a mandatory file. If i make custom changes for development and i don't want to commit them, i have to watch out for accidently commits. For one file it's easy to handle, with 3 or more files it becomes creepy. Is there a way to disable these files temporary from svn commit? So its easiert to commit? I'm working with svn and subclipse.

• C# ASP.NET update SQL database with values from text boxes

  Here's what I have. User enters values into text boxes (personal information etc.) and then presses a save changes button. The values in these text boxes get stored in an SQL database. The problem I have is that when updating the database using the values from the text boxes, the page refreshes and the values in the text boxes are lost (or rather they return to the values that are already in the database as the data from the database is loaded into the text boxes on Page_Load). When I update the database using valuse stored in variables it all works fine. What is the best way to update with the values from the text boxes?

• nxhtml and geben: debug mode stops responding to keystrokes upon step into html/php mixed line

  I'm using the php debugger geben and nxhtml-mode. While debugging, as soon as I step into a mixed line such as <foo><?php bar(); ?></foo> the debugger is no longer accepting any key-strokes. However, the mode line still indicates the debugger's presence (*debugging*'-entry). I guess this due to nxhtml's mode changes, because it's the exact same behavior geben shows after disabling end re-enabling it. Does anybody use nxhtml together with geben and has fixed it? Or is it possible to configure emacs to enable nxhtml conditionaly, such that php-mode is used instead when the buffer was opened by geben?

• WordPress front page (homepage) fails to redirect when static front page is set.

  I have configured WordPress to display a static front page as described here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Reading_SubPanel#Reading_Settings When save changes and try to visit my front page, my browser displays the following error: "The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." Disabling cookies does not remedy the situation. I'm using the theme, Constructor (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/constructor), which I suspect may be contributing to the problem. How can I make WordPress properly display my front page?

• Correctly Applying an Open Source License

  My question consists of multiple points that are inherently related, I apologize for that. I tried splitting it up a little more, but I would keep repeating myself. What exactly is required to apply an open source license to a code base that is my Intellectual Property? A lot of Open Source projects include a full copy of the license somewhere in a root directory but do also have some sort of file header including a license description, disclaimer and a copyright notice. Is that really necessary or does it depend on the license type? If someone else contributes changes to this file, does he need to be named in the copyright notice too?

• How do I override ToString in C# enums?

  In the post Enum ToString, a method is described to use the custom attribute DescriptionAttribute like this: Enum HowNice { [Description("Really Nice")] ReallyNice, [Description("Kinda Nice")] SortOfNice, [Description("Not Nice At All")] NotNice } And then, you call a function GetDescription, using syntax like: GetDescription<HowNice>(NotNice); // Returns "Not Nice At All" But that doesn't really help me when I want to simply populate a ComboBox with the values of an enum, since I cannot force the ComboBox to call GetDescription. What I want has the following requirements: Reading (HowNice)myComboBox.selectedItem will return the selected value as the enum value. The user should see the user-friendly display strings, and not just the name of the enumeration values. So instead of seeing "NotNice", the user would see "Not Nice At All". Hopefully, the solution will require minimal code changes to existing enumerations. Obviously, I could implement a new class for each enum that I create, and override its ToString(), but that's a lot of work for each enum, and I'd rather avoid that. Any ideas? Heck, I'll even throw in a hug as a bounty :-)
